Why tho? T9 is one of the least fun tiers, since it's bound by the awful high tier meta, without even benefiting from the massive power increase of T10 ships. T7 and 8 is where it is at in terms of both profit and enjoyment.

Sure, you might earn a few extra credits at T9 but hightiers games last longer. So you'll end up getting more 20-minute boring-ass matches. Grinding credits at T9 will be an actual grind.

It works for destroyers because they're fucking tinysmol and have a 10 knot speed advantage on everything. That, and since they have no armour and minimal guns, any hit they take is crippling but any destroyer lost is trivial to replace.

The entire idea behind le speed is le armour :^) is that if you've got even a few knots of speed advantage then, assuming vaguely competent spotting, you can simply refuse an engagement against anything that threatens you. This only works as an offensive concept - if you're out there looking for shit to fuck up, you can freely force an engagement with shit you can fuck up and avoid an engagement with shit that fucks you up. This doesn't work on the defensive, for example if you're tied down to a battle fleet or a convoy, because you can't just fuck off over the horizon without making yourself completely worthless to everyone else involved.

Do you know why torpedo boats are good for gameplay?

Torpedoes promote movement. They are, seriously, one of the biggest anti-camping measures in the game. The other major anti-camping measure was carriers. Because nothing is easier to hit with aerial or ship-launched torpedoes than a big fat stupid battleship slowly going in reverse because he's bow-on camping.

Guess what two things battleship captains whine about the most? What two things have been the most heavily nerfed over the past year? And guess what's been getting worse over that same year?

But okay sure continue to gut torpedoes out of the game because they're too binary. Don't blame me when the top tier camping meta continues to get worse and worse. Go back to calling me a torpedo fetishist just because I prefer the weapon system that keeps the game in motion.

Problem is that with such awful rudders and huge turning circles, you really needed either advanced warning or a good idea of where the torps would be coming from in order to start manuvering well before they were close to you. Most people couldn't count on that, and lack of incentives to go forward meant there was no reason to move forward at all. Combined with he fact that cruisers are staying as far back a possible too in order to not get nuked means that they really were never much help when it came to torpedo screens.

This is half-correct.

The problem lies in the half of it that is not correct.

Pre-nerf CVs were able to delete any target they chose, regardless of circumstance, or actions taken by the target or the target's (non-CV) allies near it.
This 'I click on an enem ship to delete it' power led to a flood of CV players who thought they were good because they played an absolutely overpowered class.
Unfortunately, they had supertesters backing them. The STs and their CV fanboi club obviously loved the power to just click things out of the game.
So the needed nerfs were delayed for half a year, the player count dropped by a good 100k, and WG finally nerfed CVs so hard that playing them now is pointless.
Some small adjustments early in this cycle would have been far better for everyone.

DDs and torps went through a ton of smaller adjustments in comparison.
The problem here is not so much the DDs as such, but rather the lack of counters to their low detectability (or lack of rewards for teh intended counters, or the fact thet the intended counters fail to work). See 'CAs are shit and can't do their job'
The torpedoes have been nerfed so much (especially in the case of IJN torps, USN torps are now actually more dangerous at t10) that high-tier BBs barely have to worry about taking hits, especially the non-German BBs have extremely high damage reduction.

It would arguably be better for gameplay if they flipped this so that German BBs had better torp protection, this would make them good at closing in while at the same time rewarding DDs for torping the reversing Yamatos and Iowas.

The biggest anti-camping measures in the game is the fact that majority of games are some variation of domination. "Torps and CVs are a solution to camping" is retarded because the entire game is set up to promote playing objectives, unlike WoT, where artillery exists specifically as a counter to hellcamps in Clan Wars (not pub matches). WoWS teams that camp just get capped out except in standard battle.

Camping in and of itself in this game isn't even practical because stationary ships are colossally vulnerable to being worked by all manner of things- torps are only one solution to it, and hardly less effective than just getting multiple angles, or HE spam from stealth.

Torp walls aren't most effective against campers, they're most effective against mobile ships that get caught in a crossfire, or ships actually playing objectives.

It's unforgiving. It's armour feels more like Omaha's than Cleveland and it's outspotted by many BBs (thank god those ones weren't around when I was grinding it).

It is nimble and has powerful guns though, so there are rewards if you can work around the limitations.

If you're closing in to secondary range you're going to encounter DDs in smoke. They're going to be launching torps at you and you may have to rush them. TASM is a big deal in that kind of situation and CSM is completely worthless.

If you see yourself playing to avoid those kinds of encounters you should spec out of secondaries and go full concealment.

The only mods I'd consider useful would be the chat mod that says what ship each poster is helming and the minimap mod that shows ship names.

Additionally, the player panels that show's the player's ship name is useful. It lets you see at a glance what you have to work with and what you are facing without having to tab away. This is a case of badly displayed results.

It is doubly irritating because they should know better, WoT'S mechanics are extremely well documented and the information is displayed in a way that helps players understand what teh fuck is going on.

Not understanding what the fuck just happened to them, why they died, why the shots dealt no damage etc. is highly frustrating.
It makes people leave the game if it happens three times in a row in combination with a few lost games.

This is actually something many alpha tester told WG when they announced 'beta soon'.
They didn't listen, of course, which is one of the reasons why player number plummeted after the first few weeks.

Steel Ocean has more ship-like handling, but awful, awful fucking gameplay. They're still on the World of Tanks style unstabilized guns that lose accuracy from moving/traversing, plus the camera doesn't track along with moving targets so actually hitting things is stupid hard. Class balance is even wonkier than Warships, and overall it feels like a knockoff Warships.
