Castlefag here. I've prepared some spoopy secret boss in the prison area. He's not much of a big deal but will eat you alive if you go unprepared. Since if I reveal where he is I'll ruin the spooky, have some mindfuck stairs instead. It's gonna be one hell of a ride.

Well, the islands were actually pieces of land that lay on the surface. With the world's terrain increasingly growing more erratic and unpredictable with certain creatures and new discoveries (mods), things grew more and more desolate. Until powerful geyser any mods that have them? blew up from the ocean and sent most of the fragments of the land above to the clouds. Some only went as far as a building, whereas some went so high up, it was anyone's guess as to where they would end up. But if one looks from a high enough area, it's possible to see a piece of land in the sky in the distance. Only those who witnessed the rise of the lands could know what lingers there.

Some say there's treasure to be found, others say there's paradise to be found, and a few state that old ruins, littered with horrid monsters and beasts linger in such places. Venture at your own risk, and discover the secrets of the sky!

I just realized that mods are literally the reason why minecraft has remained so popular for so long compared to other voxel games like space engineers or starmade, that have stronger core features than minecraft (separate grids, physics, gate logic, fuggin space ships)but less content (spengies is fucking barebones, starmade has like 4 sound files and zero singleplayer incentives) and not many options for modding. And not just gameplay overhaul mods, there's a distinct lack of server management tools which makes running a good space voxel server a nightmare

Kind of makes me depressed because all the space voxel games that i would love to be great are complete trash because of this, and ded as fuck as a result

At the risk of sounding extremely dumb

How am I supposed to go past the Macerator quest in Infitech2?

I need diamonds to craft it and I found Diamond veins alright but I can't mine them with steel/bronze/wrought Iron tools.

I can try and make industrial diamonds with the compressor but I can't mine obsidian without a tier 3 pick either.

Only Tier3 tools are able to mine them and the only T3 level ore I found out I can mine with Tier2 tools is cobalt, which is about as rare as diamonds.

Or am I supposed to go through Thaumcraft at this point and go all the way to Thaumium ingots? The 3rd quest needs glowstone but I can't access the Nether if I can't mine obsidian either!

I know jack shit about thaumcraft btw.

Flat bedrock is something I know cofhCore handles, though it's advanced significantly since last I messed with it's configs.

But thaumium is extremely easy to make. Make a shitty wood with iron caps wand, make a cauldron, place cauldron, use wand on it, put lava under cauldron, fill with water, then toss in a couple shards of any type and an iron ingot to get thaumium ingot.

I used Thaumcraft to make Thaumium (it's not as simple as it is in Vanilla) to mine the obsidian and make industrial diamonds for the macerator. You don't need Nitor or Glowstone to make it - just a crucible over lava works.

You can also find diamonds as dungeon loot. If you find a village with a blacksmith, you might find other metals (such as Dark Steel) that can mine diamonds.

That's a Thaumcraft 5 thing. It isn't in Infitech, so there was no need to evacuate.

Personally, I spent days drilling around looking for nickel/cobalt veins so I could get that L3 pickaxe, and eventually gave up on that to cook up some Thaumium.

If you only make a single ingot of Thaumium, you can make a rod out of it, make a hammer from that and the green shards, and use it to harvest the diamond ore. Then make a diamond pickaxe.

FYI you fucked your base by overloading your Crucible.

The crucible can only handle so much vis at a time. Throwing 32 earth shards overloaded it by 10-20 times. You were supposed to throw 2 shards, then 1 iron ingot, then repeat, or 10 shards and then 5 ingots.

I really doubt there is

There's a couple ways of going about this, since thaumcraft isn't opensource you can't directly look at it's asset structure. What you can do is scour the internet for a resourcepack that already covers thaumcraft and then modify that.
Otherwise you can start from scratch, to do so you first grab the downloaded .jar that you use to play with. Next you take an unzipper or archival program to view it's contents, I use 7-zip for this. Next, if you're using 7-zip you can right click the jar and use the extract files here options and it unpack the jar for you, this will reveal the mod's internal structure.
The folder named "assets" is what you're looking for in there you'll find two folders, one name minecraft and one name thaumcraft, remember this. Navigate through the thaumcraft folder to the models folder and there in lay your golem texture files. Now It's important to note that mods and minecraft will map textures in a very specific way, sort of like the player skins if you have expereience with that. You can open up the golem texture with your favorite editors and save them, make sure the file name is exactly the same and it's using the same .png extension. After you're done making your edit to your textures navigate back to that thaumcraft folder i told you to remember, copy the folder. now grab any resourcepack that you like and drop the thaumcraft folder in the assets folder where that minecraft folder is. You can delete the minecraft folder if you don't like the vanilla texture pack. If everything went according to plan you should have made a new texture pack for thaumcraft golems with minimalist effort. You can of course learn how to make texture packs from scratch but it's easier to just fudge it like this. Don't forget to update us on your progress anon.

My Refined Storage system can't autocraft 10k coolant cells from IC2, and thus can't autocraft overclock upgrades. It's not a huge deal since I don't think I'll constantly need the upgrades but it still bugs me.

RS autocrafts the universal cell+1000mb of coolant just fine though (have a crafter hooked up to a canning machine).

Infitech2 has a mod count of 151.
I can get 100+ frames at 18 render distance with faithful resource pack.

I'm afraid that that will change as soon as I start building large numbers of multiblock machines and start abusing chunk loaders.

I tried a lite 1.10.2 modpack with GT5.10.6 and around 20 other mods and also got solid 60 FPS but an idiotic amount of server lag.

Running 16 gigs of WAM (4 allocated) an old GTX760 and a FX8350

I did generate a big square of chunks around the spawn with ACT, but one time I was flying with a
glider, I accidentally achieved speed of light, landed in a village, then died to an android. It was so
fast, the chunks inbetween didn't even generate. I ended up walking all the way to get my shit.

It's cool tho, the village is big and nice, the way there has a lot of smaller villages and cool scenery,
so I think I'm gonna build a railway there.

you can't allow or disallow individual ore spawning using configs, you can only disable group ore spawning like disable tech ores or disable fantasy ores. Vanilla ore distribution is retarded as well any ore can spawn at any height. There is no customization options other than using 3rd party mods for ore distribution.

Once i talked with moddev (glassmaker or glassblower sth like that) over irc about this, his literal answer is "lol, it's more fun this way because you don't need to look for resources".

Speaking of not knowing things, I'm not even sure if BB is affecting worldgen at all. This is the first area that looks slightly non-vanilla so far. Birch trees don't get this tall normally, right?

Also, if BB is actually turned on, that greatwood tree should count as BB "playing nice" with Thaumcraft.

So based off my limited understanding of BB, "MushroomIslandShore" should be one of the many "microbiomes" it supposedly uses. Is this proof that BB is running?

So instead of choosing "TerrainControl" during world creation like a sensible person, you're supposed to pick "Vanilla" then pick "TerrainControl" from the list of worldgen types for some raisin.

Ok, there are some kinda cool areas I'm seeing. Nothing that really blows me away. Biomes seem slightly bigger. No weird clashes like with RWG (so far). Also no structures like the mod authors site says.

Times like this make me really wish I could just pregen a dozen seeds in a map viewer and only go to the interesting ones. Manually generating them is a pain.

Logistics Request Table also does that though. AE and LP are fundamentally the same, you connect inventories, crafting machines, and terminals with pipes to make big ass logistics systems.
The only differences are how they look and feel mostly.

I like LP more because

Here you go. I'd say that HMaG is less efficient at making you afraid of going out than GoG because its difficulty level is somewhat close to vanilla's, while GoG has all those tier 3 mobs that will murder you and power up when low on health that spawn everywhere depending on which biome you're in. On the other hand, it has some fun things like skeletons that will run away from you if you get too close, tanky creepers that have regen, and fast fire cats in the nether.

Refined Storage has been driving me fucking insane and I'm ecstatic that AE2 will be coming out for 1.10 soon.

RS has all sorts of bugs, or possibly something else is bugged in 1.10 and RS doesn't work around it. For example when I attempt to autocraft certain IC2 recipes like the Advanced Circuit, my game crashes. The author tried to fix IC2 issues in 1.2.3 but nope, shit still persists. I've had a few other issues too. Seemingly random tasks won't work, e.g. an iron ore -> iron dust pattern inside a crafter, pointed at a Sag Mill will not work. But if it's pointed at a macerator it'll work just fine. Also sometimes I'll attempt to autocraft something but nothing will happen when I press "start".

And previous to 1.2 there were bugs like task-cancelling causing you to lose all items in that task.

I'm about to try the AE2 alpha to see if it has any of those problems. Regardless it pisses me the fuck off that dumbass fucking redditors wouldn't stop sucking RS' dick over the past few weeks and talking about how afraid they were that no one would give RS a chance.

Yea, how about you wait until RS is able to consistently do the basic shit that AE2 can. And RS should add "beta" to its name until it fixes a few of these issues.

Macroblocks can be nice depending on your texture pack (it's better suited for vanilla though), Liquid XP is great for collecting XP orbs if you hate vacuum hoppers as much as me, RedLogic is a plain better version of Project Red's circuits, and I've always wanted to use InfiniTubes because of the text-based item filtering but never found a chance for it.

Exactly, you can't excuse years of lack of content with a few palm trees either. But if
Minecraft was actually getting worthwhile content regularly, then small additions like palm
trees would be welcome.

In other words, if a palm tree is all they can add in a year, of course it'll seem boring and
insufficent. Because that's all they made in a period of time where a competent developer
would easily double the content in the game.

That's what they've been doing for the past few years, and it's why people don't care for

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, it looks like the LP error is still happening on 1.3.5. Can't get a crashlog or test further right now, but I got it crashing simply by using NEI's ? button thing to set a recipe up on a logistics request table, for a recipe that used vanilla ingots.

Sure man, post away, I'd love to critique your stuff. Be aware though, I don't claim utter originality. I find my true successes almost always come from altering existing textures. Just get gimp or photoshop and alter the color levels and move bits around until it looks good.

Yeah, I don't know exactly what my holdup is. I guess mainly it looks too SIM-y. One of my favorite parts of autisming out is building culture, architecture and feels in addition to just building functional ships and blowing shit up.

The server will have a story, custom economy (non-exploitable or as much as it can be) and locations with different cultures and factions.

But I probably SHOULD play FTD just for inspiration and such. I just dont understand how we dont have more dieselpunk vidya in this day and age. Guns of Icarus is pretty shit. Imagine an EVE Online style game only on one planet with airships, trading lanes, political intrigue and missions on foot.

Something about sliding down a grappling line onto an enemy airship, perilously swinging through the sky miles above the crashing waves of the ocean. Planting a breaching charge on the enemy hull, shielding your eyes as it goes off, swinging through the hole into the bridge, popping the captain twice in the head with your pistol....

Sorry, I'm getting hard.

Looks good but a bit too jarring.
You obviously know how to compose textures and shapes just fine.

If you want really non-attention drawing textures that tile well, ESPECIALLY if you want them to jive with Pixel perfection, you mainly want to focus on small color shifts between pixels instead of large ones. Try to compose a palette and never ever use pure black lines, always slowly transition to a darker shade (but not black) of the same hue where you want borders or shadowy nooks.

I always use this to create or at least preview a palette when I create a new block.

Here's a creeper I designed to be a tiny floating oculus, like a mini exploding beholder, because nothing breaks the theme of my fantasy server like a fucking creeper. (honestly mojang, creeper's are dumb and you should feel bad, what the fuck is it even?) Although I'm all in favor of exploding enemies (since Gauntlet Legends 64 I believe).

Maybe it depends on the machine, but on my toaster at least the loss of FPS while looking at leaves, even fast ones, is easily noticeable. I tend to get at least 10 more FPS when I'm in a biome without trees than in a forest for example, and that amount goes up even further if I'm in a desert.
