Don't forget the realistic gun sounds and the ED. It's painfully mediocre, but for some reason I want to know what happens next, just because of the witch vs. the imperial machine plot (like FFVI). Its dyke-o-meter level even lost to whimsical show like Flip Flappers. They even already went the princess route, which is a guaranteed pairing. Unless Izetta gets NTR'd by the homo emperah or something, from Fine (lulz).

Oh shit. Sorry, I just woke up. It depends on how much you can tolerate the magical aspects in it. For example, in episode 1 it's a 'Bane crashing this place' scene with lesbian magic. In episode 2, it's a dog fight between her on top of an aircraft weapon and a squadron of recon fighters. In episode 3, she flips tanks up and around the battlefield. She fired off antique late medieval iron lances she found from an old castle towards planes. Everyone sings the national anthem after the miraculous victory. Princess hugs the witch while overseeing the cheering troops. Then the King dies. It's so funny when taken out of context. The yuri stuffs are all subtexts.

I think the AI bots only can use one quiver. Not sure though, surely some of the mods fags will be able to answer that better than me.
Even if it is so. Just create a new quiver with the same arrows and stats in Morgh's but with double the size and a different name and not showing up in merchant inventories and give it only to the troops you want.

Lords aren't really supposed to care about the realm though, this is Crusader Kings-type gotta-look-out-for-my-own-no-1 thinking going on.

The worst part is when defender reinforcements keep fleeing due to determining the total enemy troop numbers vs them (in isolation) rather than enemy troop numbers vs them + GARRISON.

If defender AI actually made a beeline to reinforce the castle walls rather than try to engage in the field or MAYBE wait until after the siege combat has begun to reinforce than Warband's siege mechanics would be much more consistent.

This is ANOTHER reason why balancing sieges on the assumption that invaders have slightly superior numbers is retarded. In reality invader AI will have at least 2 times, if not a minimum of 3 times the troops of defenders.

Siege offense should not be balanced around retarded players that insist on invading solo with a Cavalry army.

Unlike artillery your crossbows won't actually outrange the enemy. Kingdom of Rhodoks' would be fucked by a faction with greater mobility, that would be able to shoot down Rhodok pikes, outrun Rhodok sergeants and run down Rhodok crossbowmen.

I don't know how this meme ever became popular considering it is observably false. Rhodok is the best siege offense AND defense faction in the game.

Higher numbers of cavalry can be handled by simply modifying the ratio of infantry/crossbowmen to compensate. 100% Infantry can handle 100% cavalry perfectly fine, although you will never fight a 100% Cavalry army (outside of Kherjits) in Native anyways.

The goal wouldn't be too engage in shooting matches with the Rhodok sharpshooters. Let's say the Sarranid archers shoot at the Rhodok pikemen. The Rhodok crossbowmen pull forward to shoot at them, the Sarranid archers pull back, if the crossbowmen are sufficiently exposed the cavalry would sweep in. The essential strategy would be to put repeated pressure on different sides and try to find a weakness or if necessary try to go for attrition in the long run.

Problem is the fundamental idea with the strategy is that you have superior mobility to your enemy. If you spread out your forces to put split pressure on your enemy you might get fucked if your enemy actually has a good ability to isolate/destroy one part of your divided force, which would be a lot easier for them if they had cavalry and their army's melee force wasn't practically entirely heavy infantry outside of the very lowest tiers.

Usually Nord Ladder defense has "walls" that basically give no cover to invading ranged with a wide as hell gap that allows multiple invaders to engage in a melee as once.

The only reason why their siege defenses aren't a complete joke is due to the quality of their melee infantry and that they have the best shields in the game. Even then that promotes them from awful->mediocre in defense. Throwing weapons should be a bigger factor but I don't recall them being as significant as they are in mods such as 1257AD.That and Sarranids toppled their throwing weapon monopoly anyways.

That Tiger Knight is somehow clunkier than Warband with less sense of impact is a bit odd.

Retainer play is pretty fun.

It starts out pretty slow of course but It actually gives you an advantage late game because only the player gets to keep, as far as I can tell, their "domain" after upgrading to a castle. Which can supplement their castle(s).

Also the new new combat is a whole lot better. The new economy/land management is much deeper and not as "easy" as the original SOI.
Making friends with other officers is cool too, besides asking you to fuck their daughter they will also sometimes show up to aid you in battles or gift you resources to aid your construction projects.

The in-game event editor...I haven't really figured out yet.

Mercenary play is very good too. I would argue it is more active due to ability to quickly raise mercenary armies and the higher than Native mercenary wages. You can frequently make profit or at least break even on your mercenary wages alone.

Furthermore it will allow you to actually see the battlefield variety as you travel the world and keep a single faction from snowballing too rapidly. Furthermore you can assure constant combat by constantly employing yourself to factions that are engaged in intense wars. Especially if you join a faction that is actively getting it's ass kicked, as the high number of lords can lead to a rapid domino effect if a faction attains momentum.

If you do become a vassal early I recommend picking a weak one unless you want EZ baby mode. England for example seems like a really easy faction to "win" 1257AD.

stat requirements in warband are pretty arbitrary to compare to real life
for balance reasons i think it's fine and str requirements are more important on weapons than armor i find, since weapons affect way more and the requirement is altered by modifiers, unlike armor
not to mention physical strength doesn't really come into play when using armor as much as weapons since it's a much more passive thing

my experience is that I'm doing 5s and 3s against enemies and when even a skilled archer can get off only two or three shots at close range it's better to just use a gun or spear
after I changed bows back to piercing I found them extremely useful in close combat like the bandit raids because it's rate of fire and accuracy that matters, not sheer force
that said I also doubled musket damage and I still find bows useful in field battles for the above reasons

case of your imageset is just bad balance on the TLD team's part, most mods don't bother changing values from native though
i'm planning on revisiting TLD at some point, i even added upstab/crouching but considering the animations i had to offset i don't know the effects it's going to have later on in the game without extensive testing

I'm so used to Polearms being arbitrarily weakened that I assumed you meant lowering it's damage. But I agree and I find it absurd that more do not acknowledge this fact: Higher leverage should equal more force and yet Polearms almost universally tend to have lower damage, frequently less damage than even one handed weapons.

Its extremely rare even in movies there to be an illustration of the difference in weapon leverage. This is the only one that I can think of actually:

oh no it's a linear scale formula i use for polearms, every 10 points of reach gives +1 to damage , +0.2 to weight, +20 to value, and -1 to speed
baseline would be 40 swing, 30 thrust, 80 speed, 300 val, 3.0 weight if the polearm was 100 reach, though none of the 2h polearms are but that's the baseline
these also can't be used on horseback, can crush through blocks and are flagged as pikes for bracing
keep in mind the RCM values for 1257 are much different from native's making cuts do significantly less and thrusts do significantly more
for choppy polearms it's almost the same, but they have an overhead instead of an upstab, usually a blunt thrust that does half the damage of the swing, so 40 swing, 20 thrust, , 80 speed, 300 val, 3.0 weight if the polearm was 100 reach
these can crush though blocks, can't be used on horseback, are unbalanced, and can knock down with their thrusts
the modifiers available are different too, with stabby/cutty polearms having less bad modifiers and more good modifiers available, and choppy polearms only having modifiers that increase damage at the cost of speed available as well as bad modifiers (so heavy and strong, which was renamed to weighted)
and that's just the polearm (not spear) formula

I like the mentality although I think straighforward scaling in that fashion may lead to peculiarities. (Value) A Pollaxe was much more expensive than a Pike and Billhook but had significantly less reach. (Damage) A formula that inevitably leads to Pikes and Lances having the highest damage is a bit peculiar as well.

I also think that distinguishing Spears and Polearms is good as well. Spears should be faster weapons than your Polearm of equal reach unless the Polearm is one that was effectively a kitted out quarterstave (which will also typically be a low reach Polearm). I believe you may already be doing this as any weapon that has upstab should likely be qualified as a spear -- This is a clear deviation from the linear formula however.

A last thought that kind of highlights the weird spot that spears are in games: The one mod that has spear upstab on by default; Gekokujo, is the one mod where it is actually historically inaccurate usage of the weapon. This may seem absurd until you remember the leverage a pole weapon can generate.

This really needs to be implemented into S.Mayo to make the European Rapiers not-Garbage, especially in the hands of AI. Upper tier Portugese infantry should really have the rapiers removed so that they will actually use their Halberds though.

Having actual rapier style swords with upstab is a good way to give swords variety and unique functionality. In a way it's a shame that the thrusting capability of swords is neglected in so many games when that is a clear advantage it has over the typical Axe / Hammer 1H variants.

Did not know the "extra_penetration" flag was a thing until now as well. Since it seems to essentially be a modifier to soak damage and reduction damage modifiers this seems to basically be a sneaky way of adding another 3 sets of soak/reduction, or basically creating a CUT damage+ in this case.

I can understand why a modder would do that to bypass engine limitations but I don't really understand why this would be an engine feature. Seems mathematically simpler; and therefore more processing efficient, to just add another damage type than simulate different behavior of the same damage type through a modifier.

pretty much, there's a lot of hidden mechanics in M&B that aren't covered very well if at all but it's great to use them to their fullest to get the most out of weapon variety and functionality

thanks, apparently there's ways to get custom strings to show up on items via module system but i do all this through text editing so i've gotta make do
as a byproduct any weapon that can't be used to block will just have (no parry) in the name, but every weapon in the version i have can be used to block (except the flail if you want to add it in an optional text file)

there used to be a horse archer class in native but it was patched out for unknown reasons, and that would only be assigned if the unit had both the ranged and horse flags, but doing that now just puts them in cavalry

you'd have to make another item, since the way warband has melee modes for items is next_item_as_melee which is literally the next item on the item list, so the melee weapon would have to be after the ranged weapon
though you don't have to have a melee mode for throwing weapons, it's just more of an extra thing really

yeah i would then, from my experience the AI will just keep swapping between sidearm and spear and get murdered because of it
you can try it out if you want but i'm pretty sure that'll happen, only exceptions are 1257 and VC due to scripts
if you've changed the animation code for the spears then they should perform better and those spearmen should be competent enough on their own, as well as getting reinforced by regular norse infantry for CQC combat

Different anon and I imagine there are 4 scenarios that are being talked about here:

1H+Shield with 2H/Polearm: The AI is incompetent at using shields while advancing. Unfortunately common in Native.

Polearm + Sidearm: The AI will frequently prioritize the sidearm, which is especially grating for units like Pikemen where they may charge with their swords rather than pikes. Tends to be a problem in Pike and Shot mods that are trying to be historically accurate but don't account for Warband AI.

1H+Shield with Throwing Weapons: Complements each other very well. Throwing weapons can be used with shields while advancing forward. AI tends to switch to melee weapon and if they do not they will likely be out of ammo by the time they are in melee range anyways.

Polearm + Throwing weapons: Personally I found that my custom troops with Halberds + Throwing weapons did very well. Would not be surprised if this is a good way to trick 2H/Polearm units to use a shield while advancing actually. I imagine it may be a negative for units like Pikemen though if you expect them to be ready to intercept charging Cavalry though.

Nice. While throwing weapons are pretty mediocre for the player they are absolutely amazing on troops. I believe only Nords and Sarranids have throwing weapon troops by default, so it is easy to overlook this. Also a bit peculiar that Sarranid throwing weapons are overlooked since Jarids are among (if not the?) best throwing weapon in Native.

I actually modified the custom troops of S.Mayo so almost all of my infantry is throw weapon capable.

Low tier crossbows with melee infantry that almost universally has throwing weapons... Almost makes me feel dirty about how powerful this army is.

Then again this is the game with Lanna Mounted Archers. Nothing in my army compares to them.

one of my favorite things to do is to find a crossbow unit and set them as infantry so they can be part of infantry formations, and then do shieldwall with them
then they'll stand further back in the ranks picking the enemy off while being in formation, it's pretty great

Is there a way to disable spears doing this?

I noticed that my spear troops were getting fucked up more than my huscarls and this is most likely why.

Tbh I usually stop when we hold most of the maps and the remaining factions can't really do anything against us. Conquered Calradia once and it was just too long (AND boring, repetitive frustrating). If the AI was any good when it comes to the overworld this could be better. I hope Bannerlord fixes this

A 5- 8ft Spear is fine for close combat. This type of penalty; especially one so extreme, should only really apply to pikes.

If they eased up on the thrust penalties that would do a lot with minimal work. Typically people do not impale or shank others with their arm fully extended.

While being able to modify grip would be ideal I don't think it's really necessary to get barebones gameplay function going.

Man, ultra nightmare mode is still living up to its name. Currently my party consists of Deshavi, Matheld, and Myself. Haven't found any packs of enemies that had prisoners that weren't gangs of 20+ desert bandits, and while the three of us took out a 16-strong group of looters no problem I didn't like my chances against mounted enemies wielding more than sticks and rocks.

Gotta get some blunt instruments for matheld and myself so we can club a few villagers into submission, I guess. I was hoping to avoid doing this at first, though.

Screw sieges I need renown. This is the "fair" way to fight a marshal vs marshal battle anyways.

If the AI ever initiates a multi-lord battle the side with the player will almost always win. This is as the moment a player engages in a lord vs lord battle the world map state freezes and proximity Lords cannot reinforce. Which means that even in a 2:1 scenario the player can frequently assure that every engagement be in your faction's favor due to "instantly" resolving battles where numbers are equal or in your favor.

This is a fundamental engine limitation that Bannerlord really should address BTW. The biggest advantages the player has is in reality how the player operates on different combat/world-state logic.

And I really don't understand why 1257AD made the renown rewards for sieges such garbage.

best weapon models that come to mind that would go along with those armor's would be anything faradon's made (which is a warhammer, a studded club, an iron bar mace, and two or three late period swords)
i think there's a number of assets in a few 15th century mods like 1429 or knights the last battle that look great and fit perfectly, though you have to dig through resource files

No, Native does not treat defensive sieges any differently than field battles as far as renown is concerned and is therefore a really great way to make huge amounts of renown assuming that reinforcements are limited and battle size isn't excessively high.

I have gotten +200 renown due to back to back defensive sieges in the past. This is also likely why Warband has a hard cap of 50 on renown rewards. There is just no way you are going to ever win a +50 renown battle outside of defensive sieges and cheats.

yes all the characters you can play as in the quick battles appear in the tournaments. No other instance they appear in AFAIK, just like kradus and xerina that also don't exist outside tournaments.

if you're not autistic and don't care about stumbling when moving backwards, it's very well made. The bad part is that some siege scenes are broken and not even possible on offence. for me, it's one of the only total conversion mods that doesn't feel like a buggy unfinished mess

I think certain lords are fixed to have a certain personality, think lord Harringoth the fucking bitch or Count Grainwad the sweetheart, but many of them are randomized every single game. Sometimes a faction would have 5 upstanding/good natured lords, thus making it easier for them, and other times only 3 or 4. At least, that's my experience.
