Campaign is great

Here are the flaws:
720p on Xbone
Killtimes feel a little too fast and CoD-like compared to Tfa1
Titans still don't have shields when you spawn them
2 weapon limit
Maps aren't as dense and cluttered with lots of parkour routes, much more open (all dlc is free though, maybe new maps will be better)

Other than those, it's good. You can go really fast again like the first game. Titan combat is satisfying.

Honestly I joined the online community in Reach's heyday, and I can't really discern much more or less vitriol for Halo 5 than there was for Reach. Though maybe there was for Halo 4.

I dunno about either being better but I do like Halo 5's core more than Reach. I also think it takes a bit of willful blindness to look at Reach and 4 and not see who exactly dropped the games down a path that snowballed into Halo 4.

Bungie started the series down that path though. Loadouts, unbalanced unequal play, shit additions like AAs (Armor Lock, Active Camo, Jetpack), even the "monster-fying" of the Covenant, among other things.

Now I'm not saying I didn't love Reach, I had a blast with it, especially in customs and fucking around Forge with friends (more so by far than 4 or 5) but there was an obvious starting point from which 343 progressed.

I'm almost a bit more disappointed with Halo 5 than I am with Halo 4. Halo 5 seemed to backtrack to somewhere between 3 and Reach and split off on its own path, one where a surprising amount of "additions" deemed troublesome were removed. Under better management it could have surpassed Reach by the simple matter of its bare gameplay, but it has quite a bit of cons anchoring the pros down (not least of which is the campaign).

With a competent developer that had paid any attention to Reach's population shifts and fan feedback, no, it wouldn't have.
People were appalled when Halo 4 launched. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to who basically said "it's like they didn't even know what people thought of the game they have been managing for over a year"

Halo 4 is how it is because the dev making it didn't realize what was wrong with Reach, which is laughable because at the time you could ask ANYONE what they thought about Reach and they would tell you the ABCs of what needed to go/change.
343 addressed none of these in Halo 4, despite being a completely new studio with their own creative control.

There was no invisible hand that guided it's development to have more reachness in it. It was made by an independant studio from start to finish.
Halo 4 is a Mistake because its devs are so immensely disconnected from what the Halo Community wants that they looked at Reach and said, yeah let's keep going. So if that's what you're arguing, then sure, but this was NOT an innevitability. Any self respecting developer than had any bearing on or connection to the Halo Community WHATSOEVER would not have made these same mistakes. Its 343's fault and their fault alone. Period.

But to answer your question, Bungie is not responsible for Halo 4, only 343 is.
