I think it was a bad idea to announce something like this at this moment. It may not be too bad or it may even be good, but it shouldn't be surprising it wasn't well received news, specially with the franchise's history. Personally, I'll wait and see what happens. I really want this game to be good.

Regarding if we'll like the character or not, depends entirely on what they go with. When they revealed Sticks everyone thought everyone else would hate her, but she's been rather well received compared to the initial consensus.

Mario has Luigi, Wario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, etc. all with their own games. Other than Sonic we've only had two Game Gear games for Tails, one 32X game with Knuckles, and a single game for Shadow.

Here's an interesting discussion topic: With the advent of such projects as Green Hill Paradise and Sonic Utopia we've seen how "Sonic" could potentially work in a more open, 3D scenario.

Knuckles would also be very easy to bring into this more open level design. Just hide M.E. shards and you're good. My question is this: How would one do for Tails that GHP and Utopia did for Sonic?

Fuck no. I've had a hell of a lot of fun with Tails and Knuckles, even in the adventure games.

You know what Sonic could use? A full reboot. Take everything back to Sonic and Eggman in Green Hill Zone for a bit, and then slowly reintroduce characters like Tails, Amy, Knuckles, etc and try to establish a consistent gameplay style and tone for everyone. Maybe reintroduce characters like Shadow and Blaze with redone, simplified backstories and personalities

Sonic's levels benefit for being far. Tails levels would benefit from being tall. Having lpenty of sections for running but also lots of flying based platforming and reward you for taking higher paths and getting up above the clouds.

Also as much as I love Utopia and Green Hill Paradise They run into a problem of having long stretches of just running with nothing to do. Which, if you're going to do you need to have it look aesthetically diverse and interesting. (Sonic Generations has a whole lot of sections where you're just running but the levels look so pretty and there's twists and turns and ways to dodge that make it entertaining)

Well, I don't think we can speak for "everybody", but I'm pretty far off the deep end on the sonic autism chart and I've gone to a lot of Sonic events, such as the 25th anniversary party, and I've talked about this with people and pretty much almost everybody I've talked to about it just assumes it's something Sega never put any serious attention into. They were writing the manuals and we're like "oh, how old is soni? IDK make him 15." That's basically the excuse most people give.

I am too. Mememan seems to think it's going to be great and he's shown time and time again he knows what the fuck it is he's talking about in quite a few areas. Though most of that comes down to the fact he does his fucking job and listens to the fanbase. After he got his lucky break by shitposting sanic memes, he got more of a power position. Like him or hate him, he's now one of the more important influences in Sonic and I think it's for the better in the longrun.

So many factors have come in to cause me to be optimistic. I don't think it's wise, but I'm buying into it.
