She isn't really viable as a unit since she comes in pretty poorly. Though you can do some things with her in her chapter but it requires some setting up to do in which it would be easier to not do. After her chapter, you can atleast remove Gamble. You can be her backpack to give help her eat up a lot of exp so she can be close to party level at chapter 14. Kamui doesn't need to gain exp on this chapter but you do lose a fighter if you dedicate being a backpack.

Laguz suck because they vary from being strong units when transformed, and absolute garbage when not. The stat buff mechanic from 9 worked better for balance than the stat doubler in 10.
As for mages, they got a huge nerf to their speed growths, caps and bases to keep them from being dodgetanks (along with a nerf to HP growths and caps, and you have Micaiah as your main lord for the first quarter of the game embodying that perfectly in how she almost always turns out to be the magic equivalent of an armorknight.

The mage speed nerfs are especially bad because once you hit endgame, the hardest stuff in the game can't be doubled by mages even if they're at speed cap and NOT weighed down by their tomes at all. Hitting the speed cap is by no means guaranteed, and mages have shitty strength in general so the high-end tomes weigh them down badly.

The story was easily the biggest thing about it to me. With enough effort, I could forgive the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, I could forgive the lack of SpotPass/extra fun junk like Awakening had, I could even forgive NoA's atrocious handling of Fates, but I can never forgive how horribly the story was handled and how it bought down the rest of the game.
Regardless of what route you pick, Corrin's a total beta cuckold the whole game, letting themself get pushed around by everyone, it's especially worse if you're male, where you expect him to have a backbone. So many deaths were made for creap dramatic effect and it added almost nothing to the story in the long run. The side you chose shits on you for not picking the other, especially if you picked Conquest compared to Birthright, where the Hoshido cocksuck was strong. Finally, the "canon" route is so poorly-written, poorly-handled in terms of gameplay, and overall insults your intelligence as a player that it almost feels like the worst Fire Emblem game ever made, and to really rub salt in the wounds, the stupid children DLC, despite being fun maps, cements that whatever route you picked is invalid unless you picked Revelation, so you can't even pretend Conquest or Birthright had happy endings now knowing that everything will get fucked either way. Fuck Revelation, fuck Azura and Anankos as characters, and fuck IS for letting that garbage happen.
What hurts the most is knowing that Shin Kibayashi penned that trash heap up in the first place, I absolutely love Kindaichi Case Files.

The point about Laguz isn't entirely true, looking at how a good chunk of Laguz tend to rank. Volug is one of the better units the DB has access to and Janaff and Ulki are both considered great even taking into account Tibarn and Naesala. Ranulf is actually decent too despite being a Cat. Skrimir is strong in Part 4 despite having doubling issues. Muarim would be solid if he didn't disappear for 3/4 of the game.
Really the only Laguz type that got fucked over too hard are cats, it makes Lethe bad and Lyre near-unusable. Ranulf comes out okay only because of his bases.

Cymbeline would be number 2; it's only one MT weaker than Rexflame but is weight 5 as opposed to weight 13 (although it does lack the +3 Speed that Rexflame has). Only catch is it's locked to Sanaki, but she's required for endgame and has beyond unfathomably bad STR (joins with as much Strength as fucking Micaiah, who was level 1 of tier 1, while she's level 2 of tier 3), so the low weight is a godsend for her.
Bolting is number 3, although do be warned that the only way to get a Bolting tome is to steal it, which means getting a Thief with 20 STR (Bolting weighs 19 for reference).
And yes, a blessed Bolting tome is fucking ridiculous, just because it's a siege tome with infinite uses at that point.

another really bad fates/awakening mechanic is that... I don't know the name for it actually. that one mechanic where friendly units a square away jump in to help do damage. while neat at first, the biggest problem with it is that the AI can't efficiently use it. so you're using it to stomp over the AI 9 times out of 10 where the AI might set one decent one against you every now and again. mechanics like that where the AI can't set it up properly are horrible for strategy games.

Chapter 17 is an intense map against enemies that can kill you with attrition and will require you to think and come up with a consistent strategy rather than relying on luck. Specially if the player begins to believe they can just dump Xander, it's specifically designed to punish players that want to treat Xander as Ryoma.

I think even Birthright's unit balance is underrated (besides Ryoma existing). I'm midway through a run of Birthright on Lunatic and I'm using Rinkah and Orochi and they're both fine units. Hayato could probably be decent too if you get over the initial hump of his low level. Subaki's problems seem harder to fix, but at least his kid is good and easy to get early.

Odin actually has durability, isn't blind and has better pair up options by virtue of being to swap between a magic backup or a physical back up depending on team composition.
Nyx has better magic but accuracy is shaky and durability is a problem. If you're considering pair up options, then she loses out since all she can do is offer magic bonuses in a route where the only magic males are Leo/Odin. She can try something out with Adventurer if you want to make her into pair up fodder.
