You have character creation where you can design them, their stats, and their move choice. However the multiplayer is more optional, most content is pretty much single player besides optional missions and PvP.
The most MMO thing about the game is that you interact in the hubworld.

But they need to roll the rest of some of these characters together. There's no reason God and Blue need to be two separate slots for Goku when he has a Whis outfit preset without even Super Saiyan at the end of his list.
