There's not much that I'm sure I want atm aside for a few bug fixes for certain things I'm seeing. The one thing that hasn't quite sunken in for me is the visuals, and I think that's beyond the scope of the game right now and more something for future games, if there will be any. Not just the portraits, but everything. That's just me though...maybe because whenever I think "farm sim" I think of Back To Nature or Friends of Mineral Town, and that atmosphere has gotten stuck in my mind for the genre.

Honestly, none of the girls jump out at me. Other Harvest Moons usually had one girl that was a clear winner for me (Karen in some of the older games, and Iris in Story of Seasons) It doesn't help that they're all shorter than you so I can't get over the feeling they're too young.

When I make a farming game, it's going to have an ara ara Cake and a Tomboy. Stereotypes exist for a reason and you should build a character off of them, rather than making them all bland and trying to add interest later.

Yes. But use bombs to "mine" in the skull cavern. Like bring 50 of them, eat something like coffee or pepper poppers or spicy eel to +1 speed, then run while dropping bombs.

Coffee stacks with pepper poppers/spicy eel so you can move as fast as if you were on a horse, if you can afford the coffee.

You didn't miss much. It was very non-interactive and limited.

You could show off your farm, exchange items(blind trade if you're with randoms), and fertilize crops and trees. It sucked because you'd generally have it wait from 5-30 minutes to find randoms to play with.

Prior to Stardew's release I was hyped just because I've wanted a good multiplayer for a Harvest Moon-esque game for ages... The game stands well enough on it's own, but I'm disappointed that it looks like offical multiplayer won't be released for a while, and with Chucklefish in charge of developing that I'm not going to hold my breath for it.

The multiplayer mod scratchs that itch and I've been having a blast playing with my girlfriend and some buddies, but it's still really buggy and unpolished.

Where's the best place to find Iron? Are there specific levels of the mines that spawn the most?

10%/30%/60% for quality

Deluxe speed grow speeds up crop growth by 25% allowing you at least one extra harvest, worth it if you have access to the desert oasis shop, on thursdays it's just 80g a box. Deluxe speedgrow allows you to have 3 harvests of starfruit or melons. Regular speedgrow causes parsnips to grow in 3 days instead of 4, so 9 harvests instead of 7. (-10%, round down)

Fertilizer is very worth it for getting gold star crops, but once you switch to jars and keg artisan goods then speed grow works better.

Water retaining soil is not worth it because it's random, if it retained water for a couple days for regular and a week for quality, it'd compete with fertilizer and speedgrow. But it doesn't so ignore it.

That's exactly what happened in SV, it's just that you would have liked diffferent tropes more, but it's 100% a matter of your own personal taste that has nothing to do with the game itself.
SV stereotypes/tropes aren't blander than the tropes you would have prefered for sure, and in my personal case SV characters are very refreshing exactly because I have seen the tropes you wish were put in the game too many time.

So, I'm still in doubt. I was playing the pirated game for a while, really liked it and bought it.
But I was playing in a slight older version, and my objective was, from the beggining, ancient fruit winery.
But it seems the "money maker" changed. This is my first legit save and I'm trying to complete most of the achievements, learn about the game, so I can create another save to go the "Capitalism, ho!" route.
What will net me the most monies? I want a full, automated farm, with gigantic gains.

Fuckheug melon/pumpkin farms are Autism Minmax tier but take insane effort to develop.

Pig farms are slow to develop (you need to love your pigs to increase quality) but iridium truffles are full retard dosh.

Fishing grows fast and tops out fast. It's the best early game money by far.

Cave diving loses money. Even if you're doing mad ore spelunking, it's still more cost effective to go fishing or put your efforts into a bigger farm, and use the money to buy ore. It takes a few weeks of casual caving to reach the good stuff.

I've been storing all my crops since the start of Y2 and slowly creating more kegs and jars and processing them all little by little, until I get the full wine operation on. What bobber are you using? Personally i find the sticky one that reduces the amount of "reel" lost while the fish isn't in the target bar to be vastly more useful than the one that tries to stick to the fish automatically. I've caught some legendary fishes with just level 10 skill and regular bait, no boosters and without bobber but haven't seen an octopus yet.
