I think if people took a hard look at what WoW looked like in 2004, without adding ANY of the conveniences after patch 1.12, they would probably play once for nostalgia and quit. Think about vanilla for a sec:

>Warlocks farmed shards for 2-4 hours before the raid
>Rogues made poisons
>You had to train in new weapons and level your weapon and unarmed skills
>Reagents
>5 minute buffs (instead of 60)

>Horde loses paladins
>Alliance loses shamans
>Limited race/class combos
>16 slot bags
>Mounted speed with the carrot and spurs only 120%. No flying ever.
>Summoning stones and Warlocks only - no LFD, LFR
>No more flex/mythic raiding
>no rep tabards
>1 bank/mailbox/ah in SW and Org
>remove 70% of flight paths
>most holiday bosses removed
>paladins and locks have to quest for class mounts at 40
>60% speed at lvl 40 and 100% speed at lvl 60. Walking for the first 40 levels
>No such things as heirlooms
>no transmog
>Nothing is account wide
>Achievement system removed
>Gearscore comes back

and the list goes on and on. Have people really thought about the limitations, and changes of reversion involved with a classic server? No AoE loot, nothing glows, no dungeon journal, raids require you to be in a raid, no more soloing content... etc. People will get what they wish for... and then leave.

Why I like older WoW versions more:

>Slower game makes everything more impactful.
>Have to socialize to get groups going.
>Getting loot a reason to celebrate.

Thats about it.
Its like playing Civilization. Ancient era unique units are terrible, since by the time you get a few of them, they are already outdated. In WoW when you get a cool item you replace it within a few hours, now that leveling is fast and loot abundant. Its not a magic moment to see that rare drop.
Even dungeons, by the time you run Deadmines twice you are already outleveling it too much to bother a third time. In vanilla you could run that several times to get the items and level up.

Pace the game down, eating cake with every meal is objectively less enjoyable than only eating it after dinner. It is human nature to enjoy vanilla WoW more, its a thread mill/Skinner box done better.

Anyone playing on Icecrown/Warmane?

Just waiting for this whole Nost and Legacy business to com to a conclusion before I invest my time in a 1x Vanilla server. I don't think it's worth playing Kronos now if Nost has a good probability of relaunching in a month. I'd be too burned out.

I think crestfall sounds great but even corecraft had a working beta server. Asura is going to micromanage this shit to death and if nost launches before CF it won't fucking matter how much better his server is.
Kronos was objectively better, scripting wise, to nost at launch (not so much later in nost's life). Does anyone remember how much that helped kronos' population? Even the x7 event didn't bring enough faggots in and nost was dick-deep in yellow menace at the time.

I could see them opening a server where it was at, with a slight rollback, and an additional newer one -- but again they seem to like REALLY big numbers of players and restarting fresh would maximize that.

I agree with you, I'd be totally ok if they opened where they left off, with maybe a small rollback to account for people deleting or buying/selling shit they wouldn't have.
However you're really underestimating the allure of "fresh start", even among the people who put tons of playing time on their mains. Add to that the people who didn't know about nost previously (which is substantial) and those retailfags who are abandoning legion for various reasons.
I'm not advocating, no one even knows anything anyhow and maybe it's just more t-shirts after blizzcon. But if nost has the option of either/or, they are going to go with fresh start. Remember it's important to them to prove a point and to them that means getting the most amount of faggots on one server.

It was playable but only just. I'm not shit talking it, it was by far the most fun in WoW I've had in years, but the draw distance combined with the sheer number of people competing for quest mobs was insane.
Pretty much every decent grinding spot would be taken as well and since the server was so international there weren't really any "dead" times to take advantage of.
It still was quite possible to play and have a lot of fun. Things like STV were insanely great, I spent way too much time there fucking wizards in the butt and getting pregnant from rogues raping me over and over.
But besides the obvious advantages of population (finding a guild wasn't difficult nor finding groups for dungeons), it also FORCED you to group up for quests even if you normally wouldn't need to. i made friends with lots of people that way, even gold farming worthless chinks and drunk russians who could barely communicate. Even if it's an absurd number, population still makes the game ridiculously fun.
If they really have that phasing shit working, i could see it being just fine.
