If you aren't hitting shit you aren't training your skills. Bench her for a bit if it gets out of hand. also, pets generally have an easier time training their potentials and they get a multiplier on their stat gains. They also get an ass ton of xp hitting stuff in jobs while you're running around picking plants and grabbing loot. Once you start unlocking the tier 2 jobs, have all your skills unlocked so you can start unfucknig your potentials and you're getting potions of potiontial to bless and quaff it inverts unless you're doing multipet

Yea, I recently played around with soul armor on my last character. The costs are ridiculous. Each resist costs a huge amount, immunity costs a bit more, and weakness reduces the cost by a marginal amount. You basically have to drop all spending on anything else for several levels and full clear each level with SEPI and item sense for bonus credits to afford anything good. Wisp soul armor is hilariously overpriced for the horrible weaknesses it gives you. Not to mention that more resists means less HP.

Soul Armor could theoretically just have a fixed cost if the HP modifiers that came with resistances and weaknesses were rebalanced. But the thing about having more HP is that it becomes exponentially better, and that's why low speeds got nerfed. More HP means higher base regen, better scaling with Guilt, better scaling with Regenerate, and all of these things scale with Malleable. The longer you take to kill, the more turns you're alive to regain HP, which increases the time you take to kill. Also, Diehard may scale off modified max HP. Are you sure the heal strength is not damage dependent? Well it is triggered by dealing damage at least, and malleable says "Does not affect healing received based on dealing damage."

How the goatfucker am I supposed to do the party room levels in maidensnow eve? I don't get enough food for vit to farm the first couple wilds levels for area effect items and wildly overleveling yourself. I can't shoot the monsters fast enough. It's impossible to run to the portal you don't know the location of because of crows and ranged sheep/tentaplants. You can't get pregnant and slink off with your shame because there's far more than your body can satisfy. I just get game over'd every time I rng into a party room

The only reason i even knew where the portal was to make it in time was cause a dryad thing summoned near it. Even then I pretty much lost everything trying to make it to it.

Poison school is fine though, if you gave it a level 9 poison storm with a 40% irresistible portion it'd be no different from fire magic and probably subject to future removal. One of the most important instincts to develop is the "can I take this on?" instinct. Experienced players can peek at their stats, spells, abilities, items, level, HP, etc, look at the monster(s) in front of them, and then make a solid calculated guess about if they can survive the fight. This cannot be taught. It has to be learned through making mistakes - not necessarily by dying, though. Running away on time works too.

As someone that plays Dr's almost exclusively, the only forms I like are purple, white, red, and green. Some people say pale cuz 'muh los' but mephitic breath is a thousand times more useful. This is your stone/fire/ice giants and so on. Do other shit to them.

In essence, 1 pip or less enemies are essentially autokilled by 2~ casts of confusion. Enemies with 1.5~ are coin flips, but still easy prey. Enemies with less like Fire/Ice giants are still good targets at 30%, but you probably have better things to do. Keep in mind that scrolls of vulnerability are a thing, and make confuse ultra deadly for a little while, which is a neat bit of utility that is otherwise wasted.

Look, I'm probably a step or two above an absolute scrubshit at crawl in terms of skill and maybe because of that I'm not seeing how the movespeed issue apparently isn't an issue. I've tried Chei a few times and playing carefully in all the ways I've learned before it still just seems very weak before you get the huge buffs going. The half speed does seem like it instantly kills characters though obviously a huge part of that is player skill and threat evaluation.

A spriggan or comparable caster would generally have to gimp their melee and defenses in order to be able to cast spells, and confuse remains a godawful choice as your main offensive tool. Unless you're playing a race/God that allows you to hybrid easily, being a "hexes mage" remains retarded, and only really worth combining with a stealth/stabbing approach, which is still worse than melee, magic, and ranged characters by a good deal.

Yeah ok. Keep in mind that I'm quoting numbers from a very real, ACTUALLY gimpled character that won the game, who had confusion as their most cast spell. A spriggan with an actual build would have been far more potent, which speaks volumes about the paltry 12 hexes confusion. I'm not saying that it autowins you the game, but it does go a long way to getting you there. Most of his early game was confusion with low skill brand confusion stabs.

It's not clear what exactly the mutation system is trying to be, actually. You have mostly mediocre good mutations that would suggest you're supposed to mutate early when things like +2 armor or weak attacks would matter, and really garbage bad mutations that support the late game mutate-purify cycle.

I never use it because it's too much hassle and makes your character ugly.

I don't know how many more ways there are to articulate the idea that hexes aren't strong relative to the investment, but I'm sure I'm well on my way to exhausting them all. I've played some of the most autismal 15 rune bloodless vampire games where the heaviest weapon to ever touch my silky soft hands was a rapier and the strongest offensive magic I used with my 40+ INT was the mighty dazzle, and for all the undectected stabbings and trivialized encounters, I still felt the urge to branch out to conjurations eating at my heart because hexes just wasn't able to deal with too many encounters and I had to use a fast weapon of electrocution and compensate for my weakness with consumable fuckery and all those interesting tactical situations were making me want to kill myself. Hexes are fine once you have well rounded defenses and a reached mindelay with a good base weapon type and you have some extra exp you want to dump into something, but if you invest in it too much too early the only thing you're going to get is disappointment, as well as bloodlust building up inside for all those enemies you aren't able to blast like a normal mage.

The wierdest thing about those one-shots is you're supposed to have instakill immunity. Never works that way. If an enemy has any sort of double attack then it instantly ignores the immunity. Hell, if their one attack does two different forms of damage then it ignores the instakill immunity.

This same thing also fucks up all those emergency skills like Second Life that is supposed to heal you on dropping below 1hp. The problem is, it heals you after the first strike but the second strike kills you in the same turn, completely nullifying the skill.

I played a couple of gandayah challenge runs, my most successful was pretty fun trying to manage my 3 gandayahs. Didn't find any gandayahs after that, I died around Tower:14 or so. Early game might involve some mumo-tier column dancing though. You can also try one summon runs where you can only have one demon summoned at a time, or try speedrunning.

Instakill immunity nulls A but doesn't null B even if B one-shots you.

In higher tome4 levels you don't want instagib immunity (it's useless barely anything instagibs) you want immortality and status effect immunity, that's why shit like "you can't be hit for more than X%of your HP per turn" is good or why archmage/necro (aoe detect+effect stripping and pseudo-immunity and butthueg HP) and marauder/'zerk (straight up immunity to dying for x turns) are played there. Also why you only see shalores and some ogres.

Holy shit people actually play archmage in the higher difficulty levels? I legitimately cannot get one past level 20. The final second tier dungeon ramps up enemy damage output so high that practically any enemy can oneshot the squishy wizard, even when you're loaded up on shields and shit.

Paradox Mage is best mage. 60% damage reduction from two skills. Protects you all throughout the game. Vastly superior to squishy archmage.

Yea that's true. My best run got lucky when I found a charged gandayah as my second bro. I went titan's fist, so I had cheap fuse and made a lifegiver gandayah asap. Early game I tried to store a backlog of deleted plain gandayahs, so I could restore them later when I had the cash for a fusion. It counts as movement, so Juggernaut works, but it requires:
-Him to actually take damage.
-Him to have enough SP to attack that often.

For every 8% HP lost from an instance of damage, Juggernaut grants a full extra turn, but caps out at giving two extra turns from one instance, so taking more than 16% damage will do as much as 16%.

We basically already had this conversation, but I can't help but say that I never meant to insinuate that confuse or hexes was something you should MAIN as opposed to using it as a secondary tool. I think it reduces by 20% for normal speed demons. I'm not sure if it goes by the same for other speed demons or what. I think the way he posted on the forum implies that there may be a demon with 50% base speed because he stated that it is possible with special modifiers to go out of the 50% to 150% speed range.

I've never had the opportunity to get both of them before, but I actually killed her because she's a gold digger. Also I want to keep the offering around for a unique that's hard to link with that might provide a bigger HP boost when used with soul armor. Right now slime (90% speed, 4 weaknesses) is the best because it boosts my hp by 13, while actaeon (100% speed, 1 resist, 4 weaknesses) boosts my hp by 7. I actually don't think there's any uniques (or any other demons at all) that has a worse resist table than a slime so that's probably the best I'll get

Yeah, it's pretty vital to use monster detection and research or probing cause you're well out of the phase where the game coddles you. look at your fail rates while you're not nervous and decide if you want to try and get out of there.

For the future, shadow/conf stuff can and will lock you until you die so carry device and scroll teleport as soon as you get them. And shards loves to cause horrific damage on top of massive DoT from the cuts that can easily be lethal by then ext turn.
