>>
As a general rule, what's the ideal amount of cities you should have? With the way district costs go up, it seems like a lot of cities isn't the best way to go. Is it good to have a city specialized toward each district?

Click circles on the map to set specific tiles to be unworked or to lock them to be worked.

Bottom-right corner has priorities which you can use to get the AI to automatically assign citizens for you. This saves you from having to micromanage.

So, even if I have improved a tile, if there is not a citizen assigned to it I am not receiving any benefit from it?

I was figuratively drawing question marks in a bubble above my head when I saw that my cities could work tiles currently occupied by barbarians.

Why would they let you do that? It's retarded. How can you work a tile currently occupied by an enemy?
>>
>>158522986
Correct.

Also, you can only work tiles a maximum of three spaces away from your city center. So keep that in mind when you're settling.

>>158523110
A "Citizen slot" refers to the district system. Tiles with districts can't be worked by citizens until you construct a building in that district that provides a "citizen slot".
>>
>>158521125
It mildly improved the gameplay.

Now instead of being a poorfag all the time and drowning in unhealth, you get ridiculously unbalanced health buffs out of fucking nowhere all the time.

The point is it's still wildly unbalanced, but at least now you don't feel like a scrub as much.
>>
>>158523110

With 0 context provided I would guess it's what you shove population into in districts, which is the civ6 equivalent of specialists.

And on a completely unrelated note, "Your ban was filed on October 24th, 2016 and expires on October 27th, 2016 at 01:11 ET, which is 2 hours and 35 minutes from now."

I think the key difference is he's no longer a designer or even a lead designer for any of them, he's just a regular programmer at Firaxis and is a sounding board if people want it. I know the Xcom dude over there talked about going to Sid a lot and bouncing ideas off him, which presumably worked out since Xcom EU was pretty good and Xcom 2 is fantastic.

Then again who knows because the less said about Starships the better.

I'm finishing off my coffee and trying to decide what if anything I want to play.

Civ6 kind of pissed me off since the last two games I started I picked a different early warmonger civ and ended up isolated on a shitty tundra and the jungle island, so I currently don't have a game up.

Been replaying D44m on ultra nightmare with the new arcade mode which is fun but I only want to do a level or two before I need a break.

Been considering playing with some modded Fallout 4 survival mode or preloading the Skyrim special edition but I'm not really feeling it.

Would be up for playing some Overwatch if an Overwatch buddy showed up but I can't be assed to play by myself.

Thinking about starting up Bastard Bonds or Overfall but recent civ6 play has reduced my desire for turn based tactics.

And then finally thinking about finishing my Bioshock 1 remaster replay just so I can delete it and free up some space. Was enjoying playing it again and then I just stopped.

So there you have it anon. That's why I'm not posting much but still have the thread up and keep glancing in from time to time.

Domination is ez though
Conquer 1-2 civs in the ancient era; then begin taking territory slowly over the following 100 or so turns

Or if you're playing on Huge: conquer 6-8 civs before the modern era, then conquer the remaining civs

Superwide is the most viable strat so the more competitors for territory you take out the easier the remainder are

Only one that would really overlap is industry I think. There's a good spot out of frame to the right of sparta that I was gonna plop a city down and then another on the coast down to the the left because of Galapagos and two rivers converging. I can't fucking stand the production cost escalation system in Civ 6. It fucks up the entire game. One of my favorite things to do is to take the small map (for 6 civs) and then put all of the civs in the map. Makes for an interesting game. Sometimes the AI doesn't get the chance to actually place a settler.
>>
>>158534283
District costs increase as you gain more techs/civics.

Building a campus or a theatre district actually disadvantages you, because suddenly your progression locks you out of building anything useful.
>>
>>158523853
One leader could be Billy and another could be Kazuya

Civ unique district is Gym (unique district that replaces encampment, provides bonus amenities, and has increased production if built two blocks away from cattle)

Unique unit is Fucking Slave, replaces ranger, +5 strength when next to enemy districts and also can perform one action as a builder

Kazuya's bonus is (Gangin' up!) that gives his units a substantial bonus when flanking enemy units, Billy's bonus is (That's Power Son!) which makes his units receive combat bonuses when within 6 tiles of one of his industrial districts or encampments

Also adds the 'Dungeon' wonder that must be built on flat land next to the city center. Gain the 'Dungeon Master' civic (Military Civic that reads 'Every time one of your units defeats an enemy unit, add production based on the defeated unit's combat strength towards your next civilian (builder, settler, trader, military engineer) that you build. Adds great artist points.

She's probably most insane out of all AI's because not only she's as broken as all the others, her unique agenda relies on calculating a military power score using the broken algorithm AI uses to assume four warriors are better than one musketman.

An on the top of that, she can get a hidden agenda that is an opposite of her regular one, so if she won't hate you for having a weak army, she'll hate you for having a strong one.

You cannot please her so just accept it and either ignore her or kill her.

It's some bullshit like 12 tiles from one of their cities. It's best to just ignore them if you're planning to settle more than one city near a civ.

How does trading lux with other civs work? Do all my cities get the amenity or just my capital?

Am I missing anything off my list of known exploits?

- placing districts asap and not completing them to lock in the price and get the free adjacency bonus
-chopping/clearing with builders (extremely op, poorly balanced)
-selling units
-horsemen with the +100% production trait
-Scythia
-infinite gold exploits

Anything else I'm missing that I should avoid when playing to make it more fair with AI?

It can be applied to any and all forms of media.

There's no method of keeping yourself informed of worldly affairs without also exposing yourself to the political biases of whoever's informing you.

It doesn't matter if you get your news from a newspaper, the television, the internet or fucking 4chan. Someone's trying to influence you when they tell you about what's going on in the world. And they'll all try to blame it on those 'problematic' right-wingers or on those 'degenerate' left-wingers or on those 'self-righteous' centralists.

Diplomacy is nonexistant unless you spawn isolated. Deity has a -8/9 'bad first impressions' modifier, they rarely accept early delegations and agendas have absolutely no grace period. Start next to Cleo? Denounced five turns after meeting for having a shit army and then declared on about another five after. And they do love to gang up on you if given the chance.

Actual combat handling hasn't changed though, just carpets of shit thanks to the useless upgrading coding, especially units that need strategics to use.

Aqueducts lets you settle places where you'd normally can't or not recommended by default. There's nothing wrong with AoE3. It's just that it suffers a lot from being AoE2's sequel.
AoE2 was cryptic, almost nothing was explained, there was a room for optimization in order to even survive the normal AI.
Compared to it, AoE3 feels like one of these flash games you play in your browser. And I hate that "you can only have 40 units in your selection" bullshit.

Small maps I can get behind, and the Heroes didn't really make sense and were annoying to micromanage, though I guess that was actually based off their work in Age of Mythology. But the rest was pretty good.

Age of Empires 3 is fun and looks pretty good. I just think it was way easier than Age 2, especially when it came to tearing down fortifications and getting free units.
>>
>>158550082
Honestly, the only parts I like about AoE3 are the riflemen (I like bows but ol' muskets have their own charm), and the plantation system. I don't like games where ressources are limited, and I always avoided AoE2 for that reason.

The heroes are stupid, the game is basically a rush to the trade posts, and healing units is a lot more obscure compared to oE2.

Age of Empires 3 suffers from many things, a few its own fault and others the fault of its release date :

>Genre Killer along with EE3 (after that Microsoft Games never made a single relevant strategy game until AoE2 HD, and the RTS genra in general was flatlined)
>Used brand new tech like voxel destruction and early 3D, but got horribly outdated very fast with the rapid innovations into 3D between 2007 and 2010
>Supposed to be a successor to AoE2 and never lived up to its fame
>Many easily exploitable game mechanics due to having a ton more mechanics in general, from tribal villages, to mercenaries, to metropolis shipments, all the way to era bonuses as taken from AoM

AoE3 certainly had more going on than AoE2.

Between the trade routes, the outposts, the home shipments, the wildly different faction playstyles, the heroes...

Considering the trend with most RTS games these days is to simplify, I like AoE3 for stepping in the opposite direction.

But like >>158550469 says, the extra mechanics add a lot of ways to break the game. And most of them are false choices that simply aren't viable.

Good game for fucking around and having silly fun with, but the competitive scene would be a nightmare. I remember there being a setup with Home Shipment cards that could give you a game-ending Iroquois rush in about one minute.

Try to get multiple cities near each other to take advantage of the buildings that give +x to cities within 6 tiles. Since you're Germany try to place commercial districts near hansas since I'm pretty sure you get a nice boost for doing so. To build troops faster use the correct civic too. Getting 100+ production late game is pretty easy if you're stacking hansas properly.

I swear to god, I had Gems in capital (my only lux, 3 copies).

Next turn or two later I improve the other source and immediately open up the diplomacy to sell him the gems.

At this rate England will be in Information by turn 200 or someone definitely will win by culture which kinda happens on it's own.

I don't think I wasted much hammers than absolutely necessary on military and with Germany +military slot I was producing the archers with a discount so they were 2 turns builds.

Depends on your difficulty. If you are languishing in culture and science, external routes can give +3 +3 of each which makes them quite potent along with the gold. Though trade routes like you said also boost your cities food production which matters a lot. Rolling for a decent tundra start matters a lot though. Tundra without water to place cities or mountains even is shit, especially if it lacks bonus resources like sheep. Placing on a river and then being able to clip your holy site at the edge of a tundra can work pretty good too.

Yerevan is godly if you want to go for religious victory - it gives you a free choice of promotions for your apostles. Hattusa gives you a free copy of strategic resource that you don't have, it's pretty good too.

>>158555007
>implying you can put farms on tundra
Heh. Honestly, just giving him ability to place farms in tundra would be better than that extra hammer.
>>
>>158555007
You can't farm tundras lad. I'm also playing Peter right now and my strategy is something like this: Found a city where you can get your farm on one half of it, and build districts& wonders and shit on the tundra half

Tundras, like Desert, are only useful if you have luxuries there, hills to put mines on, or for districts.

WE DID IT, GILGABROS.

Immortal difficulty, standard speed.
Domination would have been quicker but I held out for it to see the cut scenes.
Egypt build the first module but then I crippled them so they couldn't keep up. Fucked up or wiped out everyone else.
Rome was an ally for most of the game but then they backstabbed me after we declared a joint war on the Aztecs so I had to reduce them to rubble.
Scythia was my neighbour right at the start so had to wipe her out before she started spamming horses. Capturing an early city state helped me spam out enough war carts.
Will probably try a religious victory on Diety next.
Who are the go to civs for religion? Peter? Saladin?

>>158556074

Only Salad Man will give you a religion. Don't bother with others unless you want a duel with Kongonigger
>>
>>158555980
Eh, even with Russia I almost always take culture from pastures or quarry faith, those are much more reliable and there are plenty of other ways to generate faith in the game. I never settle more than 1 or 2 cities on tundra anyway.
>>
>>158556074
IF you get a good tundra start Peter is fucking amazing. But if you don't feel like restarting like 7 times. Otherwise might be Saladin dunno. Japan can be a pretty good choice, with district bonuses and building holy site in half time.
>>
>civ 6 has native borderless window mode

already the best game in the franchise
>>
>>158556185
that's true
Dance with the Aurora will give you an early edge with faith but you aren't guaranteed to find more than 1 place for a Tundra Lavra.

>>158556192
I think that as far as religion goes
Saladin > Peter > Hojo

at least on the higher difficulties. King and below Saladin's skill works kind of against him because you actually can reliably get a religion without making everything in the early game about spawning a prophet

No prob senpai, we all gotta be noobs sometime.
I meant energy. Robots / Droids / Synths cost 1 credit each a month, which adds up ridonkulously if you try to make your empire a glorious machine utopia.

On another note, the patch also seems to have buffed Protectorate tech advancement. Otherwise it seems pretty coincidental these guys went vassal 2 years after I loaded up despite having a grand total of 2 research buildings in their whole "Empire".

I am happy, this was desperately needed.

Depends on your civ probably. I started a game alone on an island as Germany and I could build the great circle of jewery and german engineering and shoot straight for tech that few other civs could match.
