It got massively ignored at release, which is sad, because it was the last release by it's studio and was definitely their swansong.

It's got decent characters, multiple endings and is decently difficult. Also a great OST, which is to be expected, given that song is a major plot element.

Rusty Key gets basically replaced by Ice World eventually, since anything not immune to Negate Action isn't immune to Stop either. And then endgame, everything is basically immune to ailments anyway, and you're better off either sweeping the trash away with Blazing Light or having To the Sea running constantly.

It's because of how crits work in the game. Rather than the generic double damage most games have, they ignore 85% of defensive stats. This means that they're not great against most enemies, who's HP and defense simply isn't high enough to make it worth it.

How's the early game? Most turn-based RPGs I've played have really boring early games since your characters have such few abilities so you can't really have complicated strategies. Grid based, turn based system, similar to FE. No pair ups or dual attacks, but instead of player phase and enemy phase, each unit on the map have their individual speeds, and that determines which unit gets to act next after the last one. So an especially fast unit may be able to act two or even three times before the especially slow one is able to make a move.
It also has an RPG element to it too, when it comes to equipment. You have your weapons and armors, but also trinkets, and they all add onto your stats. Later on, weapons can be enhanced using orbs, which can be flat increases to damage or accuracy, or allow your attacks to start dealing extra effects, like poison or debuffs.
In addition, you and your opponents gain benefits for attacking from the side or from behind, so deciding which way your character is facing when they end a turn can help you deal with attacks better.
Finally, your characters, and specific enemy characters have skills and passives. Skills, in this case, are like what you'd expect in an RPG. Spend some mana to deal an improved attack. Sometimes this is just for better damage, sometimes they have better range than normal, sometimes they have extra effects. Passives are pretty standard, usually just a +X% chance to cause Y effect.

Honestly, the early game is fine. By the time the Prologue ends, every character has at least two abilities, and watching out of back attacks is a constant concern.

In terms of romance:

Hilda In her ending, she's just given birth to Alto's child. It's pretty much stated they're married by that point as well.

Lisette In her ending, she's married to Alto and is about to have sex with him when they get interrupted by being called to breakfast.

Popo In her ending, Alto and Popo travel the world together. Popo confessed her love way back in her social link, and Alto finally reciprocates. They decide to keep traveling together forever.

Sakuya In her ending, she invites Alto to a festival she's performing for. Once it's over, she announces her love for him in public and announces her retirement, proceeding to bully Alto into admitting he loves her in public as well.

Mordimort In her ending, she and Alto are traveling together to help repair the Kingdom. Mordimort's complete lack of social ability has actually gotten worse, and it's implied she's letting herself get worse so that Alto has to stay with her. She confessed her love back in the Social Link. He ends up dragging her to the beach where she gets soaked by a wave.

Pretty much every other ending is non-romantic, and i will never forgive imagepooch for not giving Yourma Jesty an ending.

Genuinely some of the best voice acting in western games, and I was really surprised at the range of the actors.

For instance, the voice actor of Tharja did the voice of the image of >>158474684 , who's a peppy, dumb fifteen year old.

That said, certain characters were definitely better than others: Alto, Rusty, Sakura, Klaus and Hilda tended to steal the show whenever they got to speak.

I'll be generous and say Serra's gotten 2 levels by Chapter 15 (because it's faster to just beeline for the boss than to go out of our way to recruit Priscilla in the map in 14).

Level 3 Serra: 18 HP, 3 Mag, 5.6 Skill, 8.8 Speed, 7.2 Luck, 2.3 Def, 6.1 Res, 4 Con, 5 Move, D Staves
Base Priscilla: 16 HP, 6 Mag, 6 Skill, 8 Speed, 7 Luck, 3 Def, 6 Res, 4 Con, 7 Move, C Staves

Priscilla is already a direct upgrade to Serra in most ways that matter for her role, losing only in HP and potentially Speed. Serra would need to be level 9 before matching Priscilla's base Magic and never matches her mobility. Chapter 15 is able to be completed fast enough that the chances of either of them getting much XP is slim, but at this point I already do not see why we would favour Serra over Priscilla, and Priscilla is required deployment in Chapter 16 in order to recruit Raven.

But let's fast forward now and compare promoted stats.

10/1 Serra: 24.5 HP, 7.5 Mag, 9.7 Skl, 12.6 Spd, 11.4 Lck, 5.35 Def, 11.95 Res, 5 Con, 6 Move

I'm going to ignore utility since it's obvious at this point Priscilla still wins and focus on combat. Combat-wise it might seem like Serra wins, right? Well let's compare their weaponry;

Fire has 5 Mt, 4 Wt, 90 hit, 0 crit. Lightning has 4 Mt, 6 Wt, 95 hit, 5 crit. Serra is weighed down by Lightning, reducing her AS lead from 2 to 1, potentially 0 if Priscilla has procced another point of Speed by now (80% chance). Priscilla has superior Mt (15 compared to 11) and their accuracy is relatively equal. Serra's Con issue becomes more apparent when they make the leap to Thunder and Shine, where Priscilla is now only weighed down by 1 point while Serra is weighed down by 3.

Durability is roughly equal. Anything 2RKOing Priscilla will 2RKO Serra too.

Nowhere near as bad. There isn't anything like "Skill% chance to kill your enemy with supermassive damage". Special attacks your opponents do can be completely prepared for, because it's a choice to use them rather than praying for it to proc. You still have your hit and miss chances though, but you can choose to use accuracy orbs to help you hit things.

I would say about 60 hours for a NG.

You can't even come close to 100% on a first playthrough, and even a NG+ doesn't give you quite enough time to see/get everything.

To put this in perspective, there are 15 characters, 5 of whom are witches. The ten characters require 10 Free time slots to max their affinity and thus unlock their endings. The Witches require 16 Free Time slots.There are 87 Free Time slots in a new game, and the point at which character join make it impossible to max some of them without a lot of focus on them.

For example, it's impossible to max all five witches in the same NG playthrough. There's also Explore and Part-Time Job events, which give decent rewards and setting infor, and consume even more Free Time slots.

The main feature of NG+ is that the amount of Free Time slots you get is tripled, allowing you to max out all characters, max out all the jobs and get some of the explore items.

Does anyone else here prefer Robin to Corrin?

I mean, I felt that each gender of Robin was more distinct than Corrin for one thing. Male Robin was generally kinder and more polite in his unique responses, whereas Female Robin tended towards being a snarky bitch. Whereas Male and Female Corrin seem to be more homogeneous.

On top of that, Robin's clothes are infinitely better than Corrin's. Robin's gear looks cool, comfy and relatively practical, whereas Corrin's armor just looks vaguely alien and out of place.

Not gonna lie, evil endings that reward you for being evil are great, because whether you take them or not, they make the good ending that much more satisfying.

I mean, yeah beating the final boss with the power of friendship is great and all, but doing so after actually rejecting something that would have been personally great for you to do is even better. You could have ruled the world, but you chose not to.

Or heck, maybe you could have an AU where Robin instead sides with Say'ri's resistance and you de-throne Walhart and explore Ylisse, Ferox and Plegia as an outsider instead.

I feel it could had a whole lot more depth to Say'ri's character and allow you to use a ton of different units. Heck, you could maybe even use unique classes exclusive to Valm and Chon'sin.

Despite the fact that I never go for them, having an evil ending in a game, in my opinion, makes the experience much more enjoyable, as you have the option of joining the bad guys and seeing how that'd play out.

I also really like having neutral endings in games as well. I dunno, I just like 'em.
