Are there any spears that are viable for a strength build?
I want to make a stronk like ox guy using greatshield and spear pokes, but the only spear having any decent str scaling seems to be Greatlance which has these weird and slow R2s and r1s.

regeneration is no joke, especially in an unembered arena as the HP from regen isn't scaled down, unlike your healthbar. Add two attunement slots and go to 10 faith, drop vig down to 39 and end down to 36. Use the preistess ring to hit 15 faith and cast tears/replenishment, switch it off for the SPR (same weight, 0.6), and have a blessed offhand or something. If you're extra ballsy and using a trade weapon, you can also use tears with the darkmoon ring then de-attune it (I don't). The regen can give you another 450 HP in 45 seconds, around 30% of your health (the difference an ember makes) at 39 vig w/rings, easily enough to take another hit alongside tears, which in turn allows you to take yet another one for a guaranteed win on final trades, and to top it all off you get damage from BW that scales with your 40/40 refined AR.

though what I just mentioned can be done at 120. At higher levels you could use stronger regen and perhaps DMB, which is pretty useful if you're also spending the faith on something else.

But it's only reccomended lvl for NG. And now when DLC released all people from 80-600Sl goind explore DLC like in BB TOH times. So invasion lvl actually doesn't matter. It's going to be non stop invasions even at 200SL. So get ready.

Is it a bad idea to keep int/faith/attunement at around 20 if I want to go melee with pyro as secondary medium range option or would I be best off going full pyro and sticking with a longsword for PVE?

Because any "caster" weapon actually punishes you with levels you're forced to invest at. Even witch locks, tinder or mlgs do this. In the end I have less spells available to me than in the other games, lose more stats to meet base reqs than melee does when they feel like using, say, GFS and lose ring slots so my spells can actually do shit.

32/32 is my preference because you get access to Affinity, you're running a Dark build anyway.

33 Int gives you access to CSS with Scholar Ring + Crystal Chime, not really worth it,
35 Faith gives you access to Sunlight Spear with Priestess Ring and Crystal Chime, but I can't say this is ever useful.

40/40 is a significant increase but that's 18 stats that could be on endurance or health.

since i cannot find really detailed info about the patchnotes fixes. how was the "adjusting" of magic? did it really improve?

Lothric Knight Spear gives you 6 poise and weighs 8.0 units.

Only Armor and Leggings can go up to 6 poise, and typically weigh around the same amount though are slightly lighter.

If you have an offhand that isn't a Pyroflame or Talisman you will always have at least 1.0 weight there, so using an offhand LKS means you are getting 6 poise for 7 units of weight.

You could therefore theoretically swap a piece of heavy armor out for something 7 units lighter, thus getting better stamina regen, then replace it with an offhand LKS. This also provides better options for fashion as you could do this with chest pieces.

So is LKS remotely viable as an offhand weapon for a build that needs poise, or is a 6:7 poise:weight ratio actually complete garbage compared to normal P:W comparisons?

Special effects still work even if you don't meet the stat requirement, so you'd have the poise regardless, it just means you can only two-hand your main with it in the offhand. You'd just infuse it with Simple/Blessed and leave it there.

I mean if you were planning to use it to poke people then yes its kinda bad, but considering that's more of a trick to keep people away then how much damage it actually deals might not matter against bad players.

A LKS main-hand and Yhorm offhand combo would be terrible anyway since spears don't have HA on regular attacks and the Charge attack's HA is huge even with small amounts of poise.
