While I used to hate her, I've warmed up to her and even like her. She's kind of fun for the HE-only slinging gameplay; I even use a cruiser captain with DE on her.

That said, I wouldn't recommend her. With the exception of Myogi, every other T4 BB is better than her. For captain retraining, Atago is still your best option. She could work for fun, but I think Konig Albert might do that too.

I'm fairly new. I'm trying out the USN CV's and I'm noticing that the gameplay is pretty awful. There's this over-reliance on strafing, and it seems that I can't even get my aircraft to enemy ships without them being slapped down by AA.

Also it looks like I always become the scapegoat when a team does poorly. Why do people always blame the CV for everything? I'm trying to do my job with a strike loadout but just a single fighter group can evaporate all of my groups with a couple strafes. I know I shouldn't bother with AS since many people say while it clears the skies it doesn't help the team but I can't figure out how to survive with strike. I even sit my aircraft over friendly cruisers and battleships until I get a relatively close target to minimize time out of friendly AA but the friendly AA means nothing when an enemy fighter uses strafe and deletes my planes in 2 seconds.

I have done AS and while it does it's job I get yelled at for various reasons by BOTH teams because it's cancer or something. However, strike is pure pain.

Does it ever get better? And are losses ever not going to be my fault?

The "shotgun" denomination is due to the presence of a high number of high caliber guns: it's not a matter of playstyle. Now that I think about it, even the Montana is a shotgun: they all have 12 guns.

The fact the Fuso is stupidly accurate is because WG's retarded balancing, but this doesn't mean it should be used as a sniper. Actually in this game you shouldn't try to snipe at all.

The ships you wouldn't use as snipers tend to suck even at close range because of the dispersion; Gneis, for instance has just 6 guns and awful accuracy: nobody with two brain cells to rub together would blue line in it, that's why you have to brawl in it, but having had dispersion means you also have reduced chances of hitting at knife range.

Fuso feeling like a sniper means at close range you're likely to hit with most of your main battery's shells.

Your winrate is slightly above average, but since Warships.today puts your WTR at around 1000 you must be doing slightly below average damage.

When you unlock a ship, look carefully at its stats. wows-numbers.com is good for this, because you can also look at statistics for what the average, top 25%, 10% or 5% of players is doing and also compare hard stats. If they're available, watch videos of good players who explain its strengths or weaknesses or who explain their line of thinking as they play. Notser is helpful for general game awareness, since he gives a bit of a stream of consciousness explanation of what he's doing when he's not on some tangent, while Flamu gives better ship-specific information.

Some of learning is just experience too: you have nearly 1000 battles, but people here have played in beta and some of us have been here since the alpha weekends or earlier. Find a good ship at tiers 4 or 7 that you like and just settle down and try to learn how to do well in it instead of just rushing up the lines.

Firstly you are still learning the game. Your winrate is slightly above average and your other sats are averageish? We don't know what ship class you are playing. Judging by damage I'm guessing cruiser or DD main. You've got a long way to go, but you probably have potential like a large portion of /wowsg/. Don't feel too bad though regarding your average exp. Warships today and almost all stat sites including WG's own include premium exp gained into your average. Meaning that if you wanted to have 1.6k+ average exp, you would need to have premium time.

My suggestion to you is to keep playing and just learn the game. Cruisers are in a really bad spot IMO and you should focus on playing BBs, probably IJN or KM. If BBs aren't your focus play USN or RU DDs. Maybe even IJN with the gunbote line coming out. ST leaks have the ducky as a fucking great ship.

How to play Iowa? I just got her (managed to free-xp the engine and B hull, but not enough credits yet to buy the B hull) I noticed she's much less maneuverable than N.Carolina, though being bow on and at a reasonable distance I havent gotten citpenned yet, so the armor is not as bad as I first thought. Still, dodging torpedoes is much harder.

Does her longer guns compared to N.Carolina mean she has better penetration or shell flight time?
