So question- did the game have a big uptick of active players in the last year or so?

I quit shortly after 3.1 due in part to the content drought, and in part due to the server feeling dead as hell. Ultros was a fucking ghost town. Even though the towns were full, nobody was actually doing anything.

After resubbing a week or so ago, everything seems really... lively. Maybe that's in part because of the new content, but I'm seeing a LOT more new players than I can remember seeing for a long time in 3.0-3.1. I was dreading doing all those level 50 dungeons for my anima, but none of the queues were more than 5 minutes.

Is it just because of the recent patch? Was there a server merge? Or has WoW hemorrhaged that many subs?

While no part of Alexander really blew my mind, the content that's been added in 3.2 and beyond has mostly impressed me.

Story presentation was pretty good (though the WoD were underutilized- maybe we get a trial or something with them later), new dungeons are a hell of a sight better than Neverreap and that other 3.0 expert whose name I forget, anima quest seems a bit more streamlined and with less RNG (so far anyway, haha), and things like Wondrous Tails keeps people going back to lower level content, which in turn helps along newer players who would otherwise be left behind or waiting ages for a queue.

The amount of low and mid level activity really surprised me too, hence my question about WoW finally going into freefall.

Just because we're both crazy doesn't mean it will work out.
