I would hazard a guess that due to LNs requiring less investment (in terms of art, sound, and time) the risk incurred by a non-school (i.e. fantasy) setting is far less: an isekai LN flops, no biggie, an isekai VN flops, that's a helluva lotta money and time down the drain.
Furthermore, VNs are eroge in heart, so while teens (13-18) can easily go out to buy isekai LNs, they can't really do the same for VNs, so even if VN companies were more willing to risk making isekai games, their potential consumer base would be significantly less than LNs.

For plotge, it varies, but if there's a true route I usually just do that and am satisfied (e.g. Aiyoku no Eustia, Hanachirasu)

When comparing the two games strictly off the top of my head, the thing that most prominently simmers on the surface is how different the UI is in both games. It's rather jarring how far the series came.
With that being said, it's very similar to Sengoku Rance in terms of gameplay; turns aren't there, with you instead being able to perform 1 action of each type per turn - replenishing troops, talking to generals, fucking, building, town-related functions and so on.
There's more to say, but I realize this post will go on for ages, so bottom line I'll say if you enjoyed Sengoku Rance for the writing, you will definitely want to check out Kichikuou Rance, because it's essentially Sengoku Rance except it's the whole continent as the playing field, rather than just JAPAN. It'll take some tolerance for old games, though.

Not him, but I've read both Tsuushinbo and Kakurenbo. He may be referring to the difference in tone - in both of those games, MC touches lolis without their consent as they sleep (sometimes when they're awake, too). That's pretty creepy.
