Is it just me, or is the Aggro Blood vs Sword matchup basically guaranteed loss? Every time I damage myself, I just enable them to win sooner. They can flood the board more reliably than me and their followers out value mine because of how effective their buffs are. They cycle far more reliably than I do so they always have ideal draws. If I don't spend my resources trading, I will lose even sooner. They have no reason to do anything, but go face. They also have access to Call of the Wild three turns sooner and in a game with the evolve mechanic.

Maybe I'm just piloting it wrong, but Aggro Blood seems awful on ladder. Every deck runs a few angelic barrages and that's enough to hard counter half the strategy. The rest of the cards are clunky and it's hard to create any kind of board control without sacrificing your combos in the process. Quite a few of the cards feel like dead draws often too.

I must be doing something wrong as it is supposed to be a solid T2 deck, but I'm having a hard time even climbing through C rank with it. It doesn't help that about 80% of the people I see in C use Sword.

don't worry about board control, just go face and trust that your deck is mathematically sound. it doesn't matter how much sword minions outvalue yours because the game won't go long enough for that value to have much impact; their turns 2-4 might be better but turn 5/6 is when your turn has the potential to be a LOT better because of how much burst you can push. If you're really so concerned about being SMOrced to death immediately you can switch to "control" blood for righteous devil.

it's also possible that you are running too much self-burn, which you could replace with more generic cards

Anyway thanks I'll try trust more in my deck instead of trying to over compensate its weaknesses. I have thought about running a Righteous Devil or two in the deck as is just for the potential to evolve it for huge life drain.

Sometimes I switch to a version that runs a few Alucards. They can be nice though I wish he was a 6 mana 3/3 or evena 5 mana 2/2. I find that his effect comes too late to be useful most of the time though I do really like the card.

you know I'd have thought so too but I got barraged a lot less in A3 and A2 than in A1
it might pick back up again as I go through AA, which would be reasonable, but if anecdata is worth anything I think there's a decent chunk of ranked ahead of you where you're mostly safe from it; I assume because that there is haven territory and angelic barrage doesn't do much besides pick off some stray falcons

You won't have to drop any money as long as you reroll for a good start.

The game hands you a pack a day on average. achievements and score rewards get you more packs, cards, cardbacks, etc.
Each pack gives 8 cards instead of 5.
Legendary drop rate is also notably higher than hearthstone.

It's far more friendly for a pure f2p playstyle than hearthstone. But it's balanced by meta decks being MTG levels of bullshit.

They should just start putting out cosmetics that are crystals only. I would have already paid real money for Vampy.

The game's great. Easily the most well-designed digital card game to date (in terms of actual gameplay).

The core gameplay is similar to hearthstone, however with more MTG-esque design focus. More emphasis on synergy and class mechanics, RNG is lesser in quantity and potency. The card designers come from an MTG background and it shows, the game doesn't have as many varieties of "card creation" mechanics that exploit the digital format as a lot of the post-Hearthstone CCGs.

They seem to be experimenting with the new format though. The first set to my knowledge basically just adopted modified Token mechanics from MTG, but the new set introduced Rise of the Dead and Ceridwen's card duplication mechanics to the game.

It's extremely easy to F2P it. You can build a mid-cost T1 netdeck right out the bat if you take some time to get a decent starting roll and dust your excess cards. I don't really recommend this route though. If you want a T1 deck there's dirt cheap ones that are built with like 1 set of rares and a bunch of commons/uncommons. It's also very easy to build serviceable budget decks using nothing but pulls, if you have deckbuilding experience.

If you do buy in, they have a one-time deal on crystals and a daily half-off pack, so again you can get a lot of bang for your buck with some patience. After that you're paying full price until a seasonal sale (the last one was one-time purchase also) comes around though, and any packs beyond the first cost full price.

So overall the game essentially ramps up the price based on how quickly you want your packs and in how much quantity. I don't know what the hard numbers are like though, since I've never actually bought anything.

I think that's why the legendaries are, generally speaking, much better on average than ones in Hearthstone. If you encounter a good legendary, you likely need two or three of them in your deck. That is a lot of vials.

Yes, their worst match up is the most prominent, and yet they're still not as fucking bad as Blood. People are bringing back aggro Dragon already and dumping the Aiela bricks til banish niggers get their inevitable nerfs to Aria, Garuda, or their removal.

Shadow is shit out of luck though, nothing they can do against banish. They get to feel like Blood for a couple of weeks, savior the experience.

I use a Flute deck for missions sometimes. I still rely on Forte to win my matches most of the time though since the dragons usually die after attacking late in the game. Having a lot of 4/3 rush followers is nice since you can wipe the board easily but unless you get a draw source card at the right time it's pretty shitty. Surprisingly good against Heal Haven since you have plenty of time to set up the flute with a bunch of followers and they'll always have to use Themis to get rid of the dragons while you can set up more again the next turn easily.

Between themselves, Haven and Forest are objectively better at every aspect of the game, other than draw power, which goes to Rune.

There's literally no reason to play any control, combo, midrange, or aggro deck that isn't Haven or Forest. There isn't even the budget reason anymore, thanks to how cheap storm Haven is.

As a Midrange, you're completely killed in the value game against Elana's so don't try to fight them from that front.

You either shift to Face Aggro or tech in some Control.

For the Face Aggro option, make a banner deck.

For Control, you tech in Ruthless Assassins, Executes, Tsubakis, Alex, and Olivia/Leo. If you're concerned about Seraph popping up, then Odin as well.

Shadow is just too good, people will tell you Sword as good in arena, but it's not. Shadow has all these things, and can even play a control/midrange game with the best of them.

This is super incorrect in the rankings IMO. Sword is like unquestionably the strongest arena class, it can do rushdown better than everyone and have late game fuel. If Shadow plays removal against Sword it's going to lose the game.

The tier list is more like Sword > Shadow = Dragon > Blood = Haven > Forest > Rune.

Forest and Haven are both very draft dependent. Blood is too, but less so. But you can roll average quality cards with Sword, Shadow and Dragon and stomp 90% of the time.

Like the advice anon is giving there about Sword is just wrong. You have early game pings, large target removal and you can easily fuel minions to trade. Reach is the only real weakness there, because your reach is likely to be neutral and not as large as other classes. However they do still have some reach, and they have ambush. They don't run out of steam quickly because they have tons of ways to refill their hand, and evolve points mean every class has ways to take back a lost game.

Shadow and Haven are my preferred classes to play in Arena, but Sword is definitely the strongest I have played with.

you can replace Dragonewt Charlotte with more anti aggro like Novice Troopers if you're really scared of them, but I never saw the need.

don't be afraid to play ruthless Assassins on curve either against Storm haven or banner if you have nothing else, you're usually not going to find good targets against them and the tempo is more important.

The deck is good enough against heal that I've beaten them without drawing Olivia when they had 1 copy before. Leonidas really only shines in the mirror from what I've experienced, which doesn't happen often enough for me to include him. But he's an okay replacement for Olivia, albeit significantly slower.

Began playing shadowverse a week ago, currently playing arena and story mod. I consider myself not bad at arena, swordcraft and that dragon thing almost guarantees 4-5 wins.
So I get my packs and gold but I'm really not sure at which point I will be able to make a competitive deck. The fact you can add 3 copies of any legendary kinda scares me. And should I consider purchasing expansion packs or its better to get classic collection first?

in the missions tab there is a section called "score" that section tells you what rewards you can get from ranked that season, up to 100000 points, although I dont know what kind of fuckin madman could play that much in a month. playing arena and filling out your standard collection is top priority for pretty much all classes. I would say that until you have most of the standard set you're much better off crafting every single Darkness Evolved card you need rather than opening packs for them.

While Blood would be consistently better, I'd still go Rune. You can get some really nutty earth rite decks, Remi is busted. Ignore everything with spellboost, it's trash. That's why the class has such trouble in arena, like 1/3 of their cards are straight bricks (but put all of those togeather in constructed for bullshit solitaire)
