Like anything else it depends on how and why you experience fun in gaming.

To wildly oversimplify it, do you prefer the journey or the destination? CDDA is all journey whereas in objective-oriented roguelikes (your Nethacks et. al.) you have a goal you're striving towards and can compare your progress against. That's a different route to receiving satisfaction.

Did they ramp up the spawns in the new DCSS trunk? I had a D:10 Tengu Warrior and a D:11 Death Knight before Lair had even spawned, and I wasn't taking particularly long.

Lightning and Frost Ring seems like a pretty solid start for orb. Fire's effects don't seem as good as getting chilled which can be used when having to follow a demon for recruitment.

Hybrid armour like troll leather, ring mail or lighter dragon armours. Strength actually matters a lot (A LOT) for negating penalties. Something like 6 str for leather, 12~ for ring. A little armour skill goes a long way (4~ for 1 free ac, 8~ for 2).

Its obviously a crazy weird formula with diminishing returns, but strength has extremely high returns up to a point. 12~ will negate most of the penalties to both EV and casting, although you'll still want some armour (honestly not much with ring) for some spell % and easy AC. Another thing is that extremely low strength softcaps the shit out of your EV if you want to wear anything heavier than leather as well as hurting your melee output. You don't want all the strength, but you do want it to be middling.

Hurt them a tiny bit. This will make them cast AoE fire spell on themselves and burn themselves to death.
Fight them near water, using a staff, so that every turn you stop burning. This will also make them not burn themselves, though.
Get cummed on by a slimy slug - this makes you immune to being set on fire. This also works really well vs goblin shamans. I think you can also slime self by walking on slime, possibly only when on fire.

C:DDA is a sandbox, similar to DF adventure mode but with less simulation and more game.
It doesn't have a set goal, meaning that there is "nothing to do" except building stuff, training, exploring the world etc. No amulet to grab, no final boss to defeat.

Sil is the opposite: it has one goal towards which the game pushes you with a punishing clock. The world is dead and only exists as an obstacle to the goal of going deeper down the dungeon and finishing the mission.

They are pretty much polar opposites in philosophy.
If you want something like Sil but not shit, try Forays into Norrendrin.
If you want something like DF, DDA is the way to go. However it has some really shitty parts, like the one where it is similar to DF adventure mode.

Quaff blessed potions or low chance when you sleep. Takes like 2-4 weeks on average and fruit tree juices no longer have a random BUC so you gotta gather your 10,000 juices then bless the stack.

So go ahead and buy all the cheap blesses pots from shops and between those and your stash quaff 2 every hour or other hour. Just don't overdo it and give yourself anorexia. If you're puking you need to cool it.

It's not really an issue if you melee and use drain blood or use devices as well as your pet. You can just fuck yourself senseless. Don't forget to reserve regeneration and use that as needed or at 400% potential.

If you want to play a roguelike, you should play the superior ones within the genera - you don't add a bunch of curry to chineese food just because you enjoy indian food, too. Each element and design has a time and place, and something that is wonderful in one place can be awful in another. When I see DF, I think 'world-building/roleplay'. There are a few roguelikes in that category - the more expansive and immersive ones could be the already mentioned DDA, UnrealWorld or perhaps Elona.

The thing with roleplaying games is that you have to like the setting to like the game - and that's highly individual, and it's why you see people still enjoying DDA even though it's a really poor game, gameplay-wise.
The harsh, clear-cut recommendation? Probably something outside the roguelike genera, as it's a series of games and traditions that have been focused on gameplay over worldbuilding, generally. The 'best', most well-designed roguelike games can all be found in the OP's pastebin list.

Of course, I'm just speculating - maybe it's something else you like in DF AM. The limb-combat is for example very interesting and slightly comical, but basically unrepresented anywhere else - UrW has a far lighter touch, but it's as close as you're going to get.

Reaping is better than nothing long as you get decent floor drops
Awareness is a wildcard, you wont fuck yourself up but you can't wear something useful
Stealth is shit cause light sources add SEVEN to your stealth radius.Over half the scrolls of ench in a normal game just to negate lava, torches, or fungus that's fucking everwhere and you can't spend charges on firebolt to burn it reliably.

the mystic's powers are mostly "punch a dude, but with fire/poison/stunning/instadeath effects tacked on" with a touch of "summon spiders" or "haste self"

the monk actually has a normal spell school and has to find and read from spellbooks like a mage, and the force-trainer has all of the monk's stuff PLUS some extra force powers (but weaker melee or something IIRC)

the meme combo is tonberry monk of nature -- the nature school is mostly utility spells and shit like flight, resistances, mapping, detection, eventually big heals and clairvoyance

monk also gets a class power that literally prints "ATATATATATATA"

if you really don't want to fuck with magic and spellbooks, play a mystic (tonberry is still good)
