I played a marathon game with China, planted probably 50 cities before I picked an ideology.
Religion with Pagodas is invaluable, and I almost always settled on top of luxury resources, and my cities were mostly low pop.
The AI hated me though, planting too many cities too quickly triggers its autism and there were crusades against me all game long.

Post your mod list. Whats with these icons, is this some full on Warcraft conversion?
Moreover, do they have unit skins and abilities, or is it just a generic spearman/crossbowman every time?

I thought it would be a hardcore full conversion.

If there are any modders here I'd totally be down to make a full conversion for Civ VI when it comes out, I can code.
Of course we'd start some time in january, because we'd be busy playing initially.

Should Civ VI reintroduce Random Events like

>>
ΓΏ
Why does this happen with Alt-255?
>>
>>157645645
Yes. They provide variety and additional difficulty, forcing you to adapt to things that are beyond your control. Also, if you don't like them, you can just turn them off when setting the game up.
>>
>>157644938
history says you weren't though
>>
>>157645587
Its the best plan.
Having more units works as both a way to win, and a way to prevent others from winning.
While you are building units, everyone else also has to switch to building units, or you win.
It takes one person to start building up and everybody else in the region has to follow suit.

>>
>>157645645

I would like if Random Events did things that forced you to change, or atleast reconsider, your playstyle/build in a serious way rather than just "lol random shit."

Like, as a function, the Great Depression disables your Commercial Districts as if they've been pillaged, or Religious Skepticism makes you incapable of faith buying in some or your cities.

I really like random events as a concept, because it rubs my roleplaying autism the right way. I just think that in terms of gameplay, Random Events need to be more than just "lol scrub, hope you don't mind getting fucked."
>>
>>157646058
Roll
>>
>>157646706
The problem with making them too severe is that players who were already playing in a way that wouldn't get affected that much by random event X are put at an advantage for no particular reason.

Like if player A is going for a culture victory, and player B is warmongering, then a random event that penalizes culture severely enough to force them to re-prioritize to another victory condition entirely has their chosen playstyle completely invalidated out of the blue, but player B just keeps on rolling out units because lol who needs culture?
>>
>>157647389
That argument scales to removing any rng from the game. Slippery slope, someone has to suffer. Just make the events short term enough. How many more Golden Ages does a civ need to have before it's an auto-win?

>>157647389

>>157646706 here. I was thinking about that, and some element of player control/direction would make sense.

Like a 'Global Crisis' screen that sits opposite the new 'Great Person' screen, and certain things build up to different global crises in different eras. Like tons of missionaries and apostles dying in the middle ages could set up the Plague to come, and too many banks or commercial districts would set up the world for the Great Depression.

Who gets effected by the Global Crisis would be random or pseudo randomly determined, or could be influenced by certain factors.

I totally agree to your problem, but if you're going to have a random element it either needs to be powerful enough to effect a player significantly, or widespread enough that it effects everyone together and everyone will be able to plan against it (like Winter in Endless Legend.)
>>
>>157648001

In the same way players are able to buy Great Persons in a total abstraction of what was a random process IRL players should also be able to "buy" global crises. Have (((Saladin))) trigger a great migration crisis for example to weaken city happiness civs with amenities above some level, or whatever.

Where to place this next city
>>
is there a way to recreate stone age life and war
>>
>>157650270

Whenever you capture an enemy city it counts as being occupied and that has some penalties on the city, the other civ has to formally cede that city to you for it to be properly yours.

Example
>Declare war of liberation on enemy civ to free a city state
>Free the city state
>Occupy one of the enemy cities while you're at it
>Get hit with a warmonger penalty because you used a liberation pretext to capture a chunk of territory for yourself
>During peace negotiations the enemy civ agrees to liberate the city state you fought over, but refuses to cede the city of theirs you captured. You refuse to give that city back to them
>The war ends and that city counts as being illegally occupied by you, with a resulting diplomatic penalty to other civs as long as the rival civ doesn't agree down the line to formally recognise the city as being yours.
>>
>>157650270
Civ 6 adopted /gsg/ approach to war - you can occupy shit, but you only gain possession when you peace out or eliminate opposition.

>>157650429
>Stone age war

Giant spess monsters
Fallen Empires becoming woke
Space stations that function like mini civs that you can trade with (or crack open like an egg to feast on the sweet gooey technology within)

As usual with Paradox games the DLC is released simultaneously with a general gameplay patch that everyone gets, which will restructure planet types and ship design
>>

tldr version; fixed diplomacy, fixed strategic resources, minor NPC factions like pirates/drones have their own territory now, combat overhaul, new independent NPC states, new missions and events for the mid game and a bunch of QoL improvements

The paid part adds in the War in the Heavens event which is basically one fallen vs another fallen and every race has to pick a side as well as the leviathans which are a bunch of mid game bosses with unique effects if you beat them.

Depends on the cheevo, imo.

There's all the simple obligatory "win with each civ/feature/difficulty/map once" which encourage you to try everything out.

There's MOST of the civ-specific cheevos which push you to try some kind of related strategy without a grind (England's "sink 357 ships" can fuck off), though especially in the later expansions they can get incredibly specific and hard to pull off.

There's all the Scenario specific ones which want you to try them out as all sides/difficulties, with maybe a few chase ones.

Then there's just the flat grind of "buy 1000 tiles across all games" which suuuuucks.

How do you actually pursue a military victory in 4x games

Specifically EL

Are you supposed to plop down a few cities and then immediately start shitting out units?

It was my understanding that basically everything counts as a district, the city center counts for example. I can't say 100% that the wonders do but they act like districts otherwise. I honestly doubt so. I played a lot of 4x, from Master of Magic to Civ5, with the Endless games, Age of Wonders, even Heroes of Might and Magic, Dominions 4 and Total Wars.
I just don't have fun with turn-based games. Building anything takes age, so I play my turn, quietly, and all of a sudden, there's an enemy army walking all the way from the fog of war to my capital and sieging me.
Or I just plain fall alseep.

I really try to like these games, but I just get bored or nervous when I play for too long.

g2a sell stolen shit a lot, sell on your details and spam you with emails

Plus the keys are often purchased with stolen credit cards.

There's a significant chance of your key being revoked down the line, and the small saving isn't worth the risk
>>
>>157660339
>sell on your details

Uh, shit. I didn't give them a credit card number because I don't have one. Should I still be concerned?
>>
>>157660215
You might:
>Get a fake/non-working key
>Get a key bought with a stolen credit-card
>Get a key bought with a legit credit-card, but after you buy the key, the guy does chargeback and they trace the key to you
>Get a key stolen from a trade
And even if the key is 100% legit, it's still against the TOS of most games to sell keys online if you're not an official distributor. And the chance of getting a non-legit key is very high if you're buying the newest, hottest release. I only buy DLC from them once in a blue moon, and only if it was released at least half a year before.
>>
>>157660457

I suppose the problem is that building tall is a passive decision with you just choosing not to expand

>>157661443
I'd be more ok with it if it applied equally to the AI.

Instead the player gets stuck constantly dealing with low approval with two expansions while the AI shits out 30+ expansions and fervent approval.

It's just an extremely lazy way to increase difficulty. This is why the strategy genre is basically dead.

You should watch the video.
The point of "Cheats are questionable" is not about "CHEATS ARE BAD BECAUSE IT'S NOT FAIR", it's actually more about the fact cheats are maybe funny like having cars and mechas during the Medieval Age, but this is not the experience the game designer wants to offer for his game since cheats are basically cheating.

>>157663430

Spoiler alert; no one gives a flying fuck what the game designer wants

Its that sort of bullshit reasoning thats the reason we dont have fun cheats in games like GTA anymore, more most modern games at all.
>>
>>157663769
But video games aren't about what the game designer want. They're about what the customer want.

Otherwise, it's playing a tabletop game with some cunt who kill your character the second you get out of his railroading story.

By defenition, sure, but again, if you have FTL warfare, you need FTL sensors, if you have those, warfare changes radically, since battles strain causality.
>What do you mean by saturation?
Shooting every point ship may be.
>>
>>157651649
They just have to make the species more unique it won't matter if they are random after that.
More portraits, ship models and traits will do the trick I think.
>>
>>157665321
And with the other minor boosts it means they can focus on military and still keep up on economy, especially since everyone else needs to actually set aside the tech and potentially a good city spot to contest fortresses or risk getting land locked and hit with Dust penalties

You are confusing unique with varried. More variety adds jackall to the game as it is now, see Plants. You need depth, you can't have depth with random factions, you just can't. The best you can hope for is a set of depth packages picked randomly at gen, but given their aversion to unique factions, even that is unlikely to happen

>>157665886
LMAO, those are ships you are shooting at. they tend to have engines. And any change in acceleration would require adjustment to prediction, thus given a working warship, only useful thing predictive algorithm can provide is target for saturation fire.
>>
>>157666163
>those are ships you are shooting at
Yes, and they are easy as fuck to track. As is the capabilities of a ships movement and the possibilities of where it could go. Particularly when the guns you are firing hit in the size of a medal and the ships you shoot at hundreds of meters to kilometers wide its piss easy to hit things at long range.

If you don't believe me go to the NASA website and look yourself, they've theory crafted all this shit already and proven long range space warfare is not only achievable but highly likely.

Fist, and foremost, I just found silliness on display in that pic amusing, the only reason anything was said beyond the initial sentiment is that people, like you, started defending it. Secondly, slow, sure, boring, depends on your nerves, predictable? Fuck no. Again the pic related isn't some ships in near orbit engaiging in antics. They are two fleets engaged in combat at range bigger than that between local star and it's gas giant. Predicting anything, at that range, is essentially gambling.

Lack of tutorial and being a unique game really kills it.

So, did you understand there are two phases? First one is calm: no monsters spawn, you can move your heroes around and construct building extra fast and power up rooms. This phase ends when you open a door. So you open a first room, kill the mobs with your heroes then power up the room when if you have the Dust for it. Then build defences or resource production modules in the room. When you're done, open a new door, survive the monster spawns and repeat until you've opened all doors/found the exit.

Once you've done that, you try to fortify a powered up corridor of rooms from the Crystal to the Elevator. Build defences. Grab the crystal and RUN towards the elevator because this starts endless enemy spawns. Once the crystal is in the elevator you can proceed to the next level. Rinse and repeat for 12 levels with increasing enemies, unlocking new modules and etc.

It is very fun once you understand it.

What bothers me with this game is how easily you can fuck it up.
Trying to be greedy and keep on exploring after finding the elevator? You'll get overrun.
Try to play safe and rush to the exit? You'll fall behind in research.

And it doesn't help that heroes sometimes kill each others.

Best strategy is to always open all doors before leaving a level. On the standard pod this is always doable once you learn the game, the special pods are more tricky.

Are you using chokepoints? You don't have the resources to fortify every room. Are you using at least one Operator hero to boost FIDS output?
>>
>>157679236
Brazil Diplo/Cultural it is
>>
>>157679304
You don't always have the ressources to make chokepoints. And you can't afford to have every spawn coming at you in the same time, because there are always enemies that ignore you and go straight for the crystal.
>>
>>157679304
the biggest thing that always gets me is that it's really hard for me to visually make out the hero-killers before they start killing my heroes. I mostly get around it with always running to the turret rooms but sometimes that fucks me over.

Personally I fucking adore it the more I see it but that might be because V's art style never actually grew on me. In my head Civ's always been cartoony and quirky, V's turn to art deco seriousness made it kind of aesthetically timeless but also clinical and unimaginative looking.

Warcraft 3's undead aren't really undead, they mix reanimated cadavers, insane cultists, demons and Burning Legion allies. Heroes of Annihilated Empires had interesting units, even if werewolves weren't exactly undead.

Warlords 1 and Warlords 2 as well.

Warlords 1 has one map where on of the 8 factions are elves.
There are also dark elves you can conquer and recruit in another area of hte map.

Warlords 2 is very different from map to map where units completely change, but the mechanics are the same, so 1 colonial africa map, 1 lotr map, 1 alien sci fi map, but most of the maps are medieval fantasy maps with dwarves and elves. Many have elven factions.

Rising Tide somehow made diplomacy even worse. Space Twitter is an abomination.

It also didn't fix the issues with combat and tech progression, it's still stupidly easy to get ahead in affinity and steamroll the AI.

Civ 5 Worldbuilder is driving me crazy. Do any of you have the same problems where designated start locations are being completely ignored? All starting units are being located together... in a huge group next to each other.

I've tried the following:
>World Size Dimensions
World size matches the vanilla world sizes.

>Starting locations set
Each Civ and City State has an appropriate circle placed where to start. All Civs received 1 Warrior, Settler, and Scout. All City States have their cities placed on non-hill grasslands with 1 Worker, Warrior, and Scout. I quadruple checked to ensure all units match their Civs.

>Disable Start Bonus unchecked.
Disable Start Bonus is unchecked in the game parameters.

>City States are no fewer than 8 tiles away.
Got it.

>City States do not share the same color.
Two sets of City States did have the same colors. This has been corrected.

>Natural Wonders are on appropriate tiles.
Natural Wonders are placed on matching tiles to which other maps were generated.

Anything else you all can think of?

I'm a big fan of 4X games and I've played a decent number, but no matter how many I play I can never be even a little competent at the military side of things.
How do I learn to handle war 4xg?
>>
>>157693402
How can you not handle war in 4X games

99.999999% of the time its economic power = you win
>>
>>157693402
Step 1. Rush science
Step 2. Win at science
Step 3. Spam out [late tech] and destroy everyone elses [early tech]

>>
>>157675831

>>
>>157693402
Depends on what your problem is.

If your problem is not having enough units, build more
If your problem is having sub-tech units, do better with science
If your problem is keeping units alive, play safer

I don't know what your problem is because 'military side' is kinda vague

So whats /vg/'s general opinion on the way Civ VI do the tech tree's?

Will the game be better or worse without expansions than what Civ V is at the moment?
>>
>>157694401
I don't know, I haven't really tried lately.
I guess it's all of the above?
Like, resources spent on units isn't being spent on more production and tech, and then they die and are wasted

Oh! Now that I think about it trying to keep my economy at the level required to sustain a sizable military in addition to the above makes it harder still

Be more aggressive, Set a wargoal, prepare what you think is enough to achieve that wargoal, and go balls deep on the wargoal.

>>157694541
I dont like it. I dont think the tech tree was big enough to warrant splitting and I dont think they added enough to justify the split. Its so limited you're going to be getting pretty much the same techs in a row every play-through from what iv seen.

I literally see no reason to believe it will be worse from a feature/content standpoint. Only thing that could ruin it would be massive imbalances or shitty AI.

How fun are CK2 and HOI 4 ?

The only 4x game I ever played was Civ V.

I love history and I'd like to get into one of the more realistic 4x games but I'm afraid the lack of action or at least visible action will bore me. I'm thinking maybe Total War is better for me but they don't seem to be nearly as expansive as Paradox games.

Sorry for the late reply, I was lifting.
The four most-broken civs in BNW unmodded are (in my preferential order) Poland, Maya, Babylon, and Korea. They make so many ridiculous science gains that you can easily win any victory condition just by snowballing ahead of the AI and hardly require any effort, and you can play as either tall or wide, you can play on any map, you can get any kind of start, and unless you're on jungle with coast surrounded by Shaka and Augustus you will always have a shot at winning.

So we got both religion and spies in the base game compared too Civ V.

What are Civ VI missing compared to what Civ V got with all its DLC and expansions?

Just finished first game first complete game of EL with wonder victory, played as vaulters on hard.

Some things I'd like to ask from EL vets.

Are all faction quests this padded? Waiting 5/10 turns for something inconsequential again and again seems unexciting.

How much does difficulty jump? One of the AI did better than me economically but was a push over militarily.

Any other settings that should be altered from default for better expirience?

When would be the best time to rout out spies, and where? This game I had a forgotten neighbor, who only stopped annoying me with spy spam after declaration of war on me turned into complete conquest of his empire, to my surprise.

What faction you would advise trying out next?

Can someone confirm that I've got this right regarding city growth in civ 6?

The number of cities doesn't really matter, so you can go as wide as you want. However your amenities are determined on a per-city basis so your cities still have to get enough amenities and housing to keep growing.

Does this mean wide is more viable now?

it won't. I guarantee it.
>>
>>157721713
This. I guess I can't guarantee it but I'd be really, REALLY surprised if it had any sort of mod-killing drm. I think Beach and co. know that you don't come out saying you're making the most moddable entry in the franchise and make a point of demonstrating the infrastructure for multiple leaders weeks before release then lock the game the fuck down with encryption.

It'd be an idiot business move too, a lot of what's kept people playing V 6 fucking years later is the workshop integration.

I'm sure a 2k exec asked at some point but if they did and the devs didn't stick to their guns then this game is going to have some serious problems.
>>
>>157721612
It's not scraped yet, it's just removed so it can be added in a future DLC.
Devs wants to make it good, so they are going to observe how everyone plays Civ 6 so they can work on the system around it.
At least, that's what they said in one of the interviews

I play every single game now with the Steampunk mod that changes the tech tree past the Industrial era. Works shockingly well with Teddy Roosevelt mod. How soon do you think modders will be able to create tech tree changes like that for Civ VI? Teddy is literally the anti-steampunk. National parks in the United States solely exist because he was the first president to have nature conservation laws put in effect across the country, and while I'm not sure what his opinions were on the Industrial Revolution, that aspect alone makes me dubious about how he would feel on smoke-belching machinery.

Yeah that was the idea.

>>
>>157725646
Plutocratic Oligarchy.

As an oligarchy you get agendas and can get the +10% research speed agena.

Even without agenas I'm not sure.

Uplifted Proles with Strong+Industrious are better than slaves using their happiness to boost them further.
Energy is often more of a problem as well.

Might be undervaluing the build cost reduction though.
>>
>>157725496
Many of the governments have been literally bugged since launch.

All democracies give you a bunch of free leaders every election from the losing candidates (they're not supposed to), and all heredetary governments are supposed to have a chance for succession civil wars but it's impossible to trigger them because crown prince generation was set to X days instead of X years.

So evaluating Stellaris government types is akin to standing in front of a 2-year-old's crayon fridge drawing and trying to make commentary on the artiste's masterful use of form.

It's not that good unless you're playing it multiplayer. Which moves it further from the classification of roguelike.

The learning isn't too difficult either. The trick is that a player has to do reasonably well and get kinda far and then lose to understand what's up.
The first 'difficulty' you run into is not what the primary challenge of the game develops into.

It is a game where at first you think half your upgrades/purchase options are worthless and the devs are retarded. And then you realize that the game becomes such that you DO need them.

I appreciated the aesthetics of Beyond Earth.

They obviously can't hit the same notes of the setting or make the ideologies different, and thus never make something as magical as Alpha Centauri at all.
But they can do the aesthetics.

I kinda want an expanded future age to just vanilla civ.
The only issues are that they would need to code terraforming and shit to properly portray the world accelerating at the same pace as the civilizations. And that it would take place after most of the victory conditions.

So from what I've understood, the aggressiveness and amount of barbarians increases with difficulty? I remember hearing Ed Beach mention that they'll send far larger raiding parties the closer you to get deity, whereas on the easiest difficulty they're fairly placid.

but come on, at least somebody should acknowledge that having a +Str when attacking a unit and healing back to full after the attack is just retarded
You can just soften up a unit with ranged and then finish with melee and still have full hp on every unit.
Lets say you strike a Scythian Horse Archer and not kill it. Next turn with some smart attack order the unit just regenerates because fuck you. It's kind of discouraging.

yes, it's 50 hp which is huge and most of the times will mean you'll heal back to full if you finish off a wounded unit with your melee one.

And this vampirism (and bonus strength when attacking wounded) applies to every unit you got, which also means you can for example clear a barb camp with a wounded unit and not worry a second barbarian that sits next to it will kill the unit that cleared the camp.

Second; all preloads are partial but its normally only a few Mbs for the .exe and other fundamentals

>>
>>157739910
How the fuck do compression even work? Wouldn't you lose a shitload of data if you go from 7BG to 3BG?
>>
>>157740002
No, you can arithmetically remove a specific set of bytes from everything and then reinsert it as it unpacks.
>>
>>157739910
Yeah, even without preloads steam games have been compressed on download.
Some dramatically so, like cutting 7 in half. Some very lazily, like GTAV was 62gb compressed from 65gb.

The 7gb or whichever value you see on the system requirements or prompts before install is always the size on disk.

The one difference between normal steam download decompression and pre-loads are that normal downloads decompress as you download, whereas with pre-loads dont decompress at all until release. So if you have a shitty PC, it can take an extra half an hour just to process that shit.
>>
>>157740002
Nope. It just reduces the files down to a size you cant run but can unpack to create the working software.

Like when you click download it shows it needs to download 14gb but then when you visit the actual download page it's like 7gb or something.

24891234897289

Nigga, if you really played Civilization game, then all of those things are possible in their world.. I mean, this trailer just solidify my headcanon about the Civilizationian Race, which are divided into 3 kind of "people" which are
>Leaders
Demigod-like beings, an anthromorphized version of their empire's spirit and nature, whose appearance are stagnant, and its powers are very high, but limited to their civilizations knowledge. Cant be killed by normal means, but will perish when their civilization and people completely are defeated.. only to reappear again if they are freed or liberated.
>Immortals
As the name implies, they are people who could live on forever, amassing huge amount of knowledge and wisdom in the process. Some examples are your units, advisors, and narrators. Sadly, they can be killed off for real, despite their ability to regenerate.
>People
They are the citizens of your empires. Since there arent any really viewable "persons" of your citizen, they are probably normal, aging people.

Nah, never seen any preorder bonus that is worse than preorder itself on conceptual level. From individual customer perspective preorder bonuses matter, more, but from industry perspective their prevalence and acceptance does far more harm long term than any bonus on it's own. They encourage purchase of games w/o a proper assesment, thus letting lazy devs cash in on fools. And don't start with refund, people who would bother going trough that process almost never preorder in first place.

So what is the game that supports the most evil playstyle in your opinion? I remember that in GalCiv II, you would get an option from time to time through events to do something like wipe out the natives to get more building space on a planet and such ... but I dont remember any game where you can be a dick in a more constant way, other than destroying planets and razing cities I suppose...
