Why does everyone hate it? It's one of the few things with adequate parry frames. Every thing else seems to have a delay. The Caestus doesn't. Make it easier to react and feels more like DS1 parry timing.

I say that, yet I last second parried out of reflex and succeeded somewhat often with a shield.

Took me maybe 4 or 5 tries to kill champ gunder.

People need to realise, yes, the cathedral knight has lower AR than the others, but it ends up being comparable if not better damage alot of the time since strike is the weakest resisted type on armours

Obviously thrust is better though....Astora's is just broken. The fact that it has the same lance charge as the actual lance yet does like 3x the damage of the lance version speaks volumes.

For the weight of the thing and the moveset, it needs it's AR dropped by 100 at least.

Maces are weird.

Yeah their moveset sucks, but you don't need a good moveset to beat bad players.
On a quality build, a mace is comparable to a greatsword (while weighing significantly less) and has near to 500 AR
On a pure strength build, a mace ends up with more like ~400AR, about 100 less than quality (huge dropoff) but 400AR is still pretty damn good for a weapon of its stamina cost and speed.


That makes maces really stat-efficient. You can build them pure-stat and still get good damage, which lets you go for a buff build efficiently, or you can build them quality and have a mini greatsword.

On paper, they're an attractive weapon with good stats, and their bad moveset doesn't matter much against the average bad player. In fact the mace's moveset isn't even all that bad compared to most things in the game. It's dumpstered by top-tier weapons handled well but nobody using top-tier weapons handles them well.

The faith scaling is the worst of its 3 scalins, so bad that even past 60, str and dex both return more AR per point. But, even at 60/60/14, it still can't break 400AR.

DS3 newfag here again. Give me the tl;dr on Knight vs Warrior. I think I do want to go mostly melee but stats and combat are different from Bloodborne so give me the pros/cons of each.

Knight has balanced stats across the board. Decent vitality, vigor, and endurance. Can wear some armor without fat rolling, and starts with a very versatile weapon that's good for beginners.

Warrior is the tank that has high strength. Armor isn't bad, weapon is high damaging although a bit slower than the longsword. It's Weapon art is better than the longsword's though imo.

Both are good for beginners, I think. Knight is usually more preferable because you'll never waste stats depending on what play style you want to build into.

So how does weapon matchmaking work? I get that if you have a +7 weapon you can play with people who have +10 weapons, but can you play with anyone that has less than a +7 weapon?

The only one where it's not encouraged to at least have a bow is DaS2, and only because of Soul Memory.

Bows are useful in every single Souls game, the problem is that they are rarely/never lethal enough to get kills with the same reliability as melee weapons. You just have to use them to draw aggro from mobs and kill them one by one, and occasionally shoot down hanging loot.

Take a look at your standard knight/fallen knight/elite Strike ABS is sometimes MORE than shit like slash, and when its not, the difference is 2-3%. Everyone's base physical defense are all equal, and that is what does most of the heavy lifting in mitigating damage. This results in the actual damage taken from a strike weapon with the same exact AR as standard weapon to be an increase of 5-10 damage with those "weak strike defense armor".

Its a complete shit excuse to defend low AR of heavy strike weapons when thrust itself has a built-in modifier.

To be honest, its greatest advantage is just that people don't immediately hate you for using it. It's got a very cool WA that's just the spin-slash with some wind effects, but otherwise it's a Carthus with 87 less AR.

Lightning Storm is sort of like the attack NK uses where lightning travels along the ground away from him, minus the giant lightning stake at the beginning. It's good if you chain it into sunlight spear, because if they dodge one at the wrong time, they can get caught by the other, or even caught by both for nice damage.

Overall though, the spear is probably the best thing you can get from his soul, if you have the stats for it. It's basically a glaive when two-handed, and a spear when one-handed. The L2 gives a solid buff to damage as well.

is there a way to apply the red glowing eyes that abyssal enemies and the aggro mod use to the player? Purely as something cosmetic. I've searched the CE forums and people have apparently see it on invaders, but i can't find out how it's done.

according to zullie's youtube comments 50520 is the ID for the red eye effect, but it won't apply to the player character. I usually apply effects by attaching it to a weapon and setting it to activate on equip. i've been able to get the crystal lizard sparkles and a number of other things to work that way.

50520 is actually the VFX ID for the red eyes, not the SpEffect. The way the Aggro mod applies the eyes is by attaching the VFX ID to SpEffects that were already present on the NPCs.

The way the game knows where to position the eyes on a given NPC is by referencing their VFX Categories. which direct to markers on the character models. The Category the eyes use doesn't exist on the player though, so if you place the VFX on yourself, it won't appear on your head. Instead, it defaults to appearing on the ground in front of the player.
