Whenever someone asks for unscripted fights I just imagine they want a fight where the boss has 10 abilities that are used at random intervals in random order. This results in them either being a nightmare of RNG where you must wipe if you get fucked by certain combinations/orders or the abilities do very little because there's not much you can do to plan for them.

Either way it would require a complete redesign of this game's combat system.

It's not about fucking up those classes. Square Enix has built those particular classes solidly around this way of fighting. You can fairly easily maintain the status quo with content, and still use this new model, just by tweaking them slightly. Old fights would still feel the same.

For Enochian, in particular, I always thought more casts should reduce the cooldown of the Enochian ability, not increase the duration of the current Enochian status effect, or a number of other ideas. That better serves SE's intention of having Black Mage as a back line slugger who benefits from not moving. They're still going to need to stand still for very long periods of time and get off casts, but missing a few because of a mob jump isn't going to be as catastrophic for your damage.

And that's just really boring game design. The mob shouldn't be helping you kill it by behaving predictably, and letting you rehearse its fights, and the ability shouldn't behave in such a way that it's dependent on your memorisation of the script to perform its function. Why is he being so cooperative and jumping at the same time every time? Is it because he's too busy looking at the blood on his fullers or what?

It's easy to memorise things, but it's so incredibly boring. The only fun I have playing XIV is with pugs who don't know how to play, because you regularly have the opportunity to act independently of the script.

If you've been a part of parties that fell apart (and I'm sure you have, the player base can be really moronic), I'm sure you've had to play reactively, and at times saved the party by doing so, rather than sticking to whatever rotation or strategy you were performing. You can do this on any role.

The current combat system lends itself to linear play, but it can be used reactively, make no mistake. We do it all the time in pugs.

The Gold Saucer ones are very quick. You can knock out the verminion one in six minutes just beating the tutorial with the gobbue. Then do the botany mini game three times for two logs. With the new battlehall you can get all of the triple triad ones done very quickly.

As a NIN main I can usually parse higher than everyone, but if you are playing with actually good players then you do less dps than the caster and the other two melees, but the trick attacks are worth it especially hearing the praise from party members at you boosting their damage

An interview during 3.3 where they said they'll stick to the patch formula in 4.0. Meaning 4.x would be as similar to 3.x but with a new coat of paint + a couple of new stuff just like Diadem, PotD, Aquapolis or something.
