Master of Magic
>>
hello
>>
so we know about the leader agenda, but what are secret/hidden agendas that are seemingly random and always change as the game goes on?
>>
>>156835708
They don't change as the game goes on, they are randomly assigned at the start of each game and are not revealed until you reach a certain level of diplomatic access via gossip or espionage.

The devs have gone on record that they don't give conflicting agendas, ie the Kongo won't have one related to having a lot of people following its religion or something.

They may be something like "tries to accumulate lots of gold and likes Civs that have lots of gold, dislikes Civs with low amounts of gold" or "likes Civs that establish national parks, dislikes Civs that remove terrain features. Will not remove features and will try to build National Parks"

No, you dumb fucking twat, I don't want to renew this deal. The fact that it lapsed more than 15 turns ago and I've rejected it the last 15 times you asked should have clued you in. It would also be pretty fucking dumb of me to trade away my last copy of this luxury while my happiness is balancing precariously.

>>

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how it works, and they're coded so they don't conflict with the primary agenda/Civ

Environmentalist
>Builds National Parks, doesn't clear features, plants forests. Likes civilizations that plant forests or found National Parks. Dislikes civilizations that clear features.

Exploitative
>Removes all terrain features and builds as many improvements as possible, dislikes players with few improvements and players who build national parks.

Explorer
>Tries to explore the map, and likes civilizations that have explored less of the map than itself and dislikes civilizations that have explored more of the map than itself.

Fun-Loving
>Tries to make the citizens in each city as happy as possible. Likes other civilizations that also develop in this fashion.

Ideologue
>Favors civilizations with the same type of government, dislikes civilizations that have different governments, and really dislikes civilizations with different governments of the same era as its own.

i think it will not be long until there is a mod for 2 hidden agendas, hopefully once there are more leaders for the same civs there will be a leader based agenda mod. unless the agendas are leader based already, in which case the mod could add agendas related more so to the nation. i know the information of rather agendas are leader or civ based is already public but im too lazy to figure out right now

Stellaris won't be good until they put out a few more expansions and DLC's. Heinlein looks good but it's only fixing the first 5 of about 50 problems with the game.

Endless Space 2 is pretty barebones on races right now, but the political system is everything I wanted from Stellaris, and there's actual thought behind ship design and fleet composition other than TACH LANCES LMAO

diplomacy is nonexistent
war is as simple as it gets
tech system sucks
the ai sucks
the only way to expand is through war, you can only take a couple planets at a time making even mindless expansion boring as fuck
you can make infinite money in no time, and in the extreme late game you don't even need minerals or energy credits since the penalties for being at 0 are null and you don't need to build any new units or power anything, so you can keep playing at 0 mineral and solar credit income while rolling over every enemy

probably a bunch of other things that i don't remember since i uninstalled it after my first playthrough
>>
>Be cravers
>Neighbors with space dust lords
>have to kill a rogue craver fleet in the ass end of my constellation

>vodyani raiding my planets
>Finally get fleets built
>Craver McBuffHuge wants me to add 2 pop to a new planet in 10 turns

I beat my first deity game tonight. Shit wasn't even hard. I feel that at the level map size, in other words how big A.I civs can get, plays a bigger factor than if it's immortal or deity.

Also holy shit Winged Hussar is a powerful unit. Can move trough half the battle field in one turn and deal damage thar takes down units in one turn thanks to heavy charge.
>>
Have you ever wondered how cravers reproduce?
Do they have breeding pits?
>>
>>156848965
Be sure to level up Wartime Nationalism in the Guardian skill tree. At rank 2, it gives -10% ship cost.

Winged Hussars are up there with Keshiks and Impis in terms of power. I just wish they were cavaliers instead of lancers.

Endless Space very much puts the Early into Early Access. Only 4 factions, and some of the stuff doesn't seem to be working properly. It's rather jarring to see "Disabled in Early Access" on like a third of the options, most importantly you can't actually reinforce fleets yet.

Space Muslims Ark seems really oddly susceptible to ground battles too.

This close to release date, they probably have the final build ready, and are just adjusting values for balance, and trying to take care of bugs.

I have always waited at least a few months before buying any game, usually waiting for a massive steam sale. This Civ would have become my first launch purchase in years, if it weren't for the shit shows Beyond Earth and Starships. Currently working on my entertainment backlog.

Hoping for the best though.

Gee, this is not overpowered at all. Sure, all the other nations have to have their science output scale only with number of cities until Public Schools rather than population, but surely this will not give china a great advantage...

For the uninitiated, most science buildings in CBP provide only a fixed amount of SPT or a bonus for every citizen born. Public schools are the only ones that grant science per capita. (IIRC)

Since then I've played similar games, like Banished, and I would keep forgetting Clockwork Empires due to its extended development time, only to remember it and get hyped up all over again.

The first hero you receive is based on your race choice. Sophons always get counselor for example. Most classes have some form of administrative ability now, making them all somewhat decent at system administration from what I can tell.

Interestingly as the game progresses, you unlock additional heroes by doing things such as exploring, fighting etc. and the classes of heroes you can recruit from is based on your actions. So if you've done a lot of combat recently, you are more likely to be provided with a combat focused hero.

I haven't played anything since disappointing release of Anno 2205.
Endless Space 2 seemed to be somewhat promising. But released alpha makes me think that developers lack creativity in general. Cliche humanoid races, spaceships with jet-engines and WW I style battles, plain 2d maps with colored balls. This is not something I would call a futuristic "endless" space game. And the following comment made me drop all the remaining hopes:
"- how to tweak map gen? - maps in alpha are so claustrophobic.. i feel I'm in prison cell not in galaxy...space..where you can explore and...discover....stuff... one step right - end of map.... one step left - end of map. i can't enjoy my alpha..."

Also even though this game is being produced by full-fledged commercial company, published by Sega, distributed through many channels they fukken put "Indie" label on it.

That's the one criticism that is not valid. Maps can be huge and very early on you can move outside the spacelanes. And that's without mods.

Have you actually played Sots? They are intuitive AF. Minimal spatial awerness is all that required. It takes more effort to figure map of a supermarket than a 3d spiral or cluster map. They are in essence still the same old maps, but they add so much uniqueness to an expirience compared to an average 4x game, be it a downwell one or not..

So, I've been playing a lot of Civ 6, and I have to say it's pretty fugging good m8s. My brother has a review copy, and I mooched off of him to play it.

I managed to complete 1 complete playthrough, and have another going on.

I can type up a more indepth review if anyone cares, but:

The game is really good, the highest praise I can give it is that it feels a hell of a lot more complete than Civ V at launch. I've been having a lot of fun, and I wish I could put it on a difficulty higher than prince.

I can try to answer some questions, but I've never been really great at Civ. I started with IV, played a lot of V, and now I'm playing VI, so don't expect any pro strategies.

I'll probably be playing more tall in civ6.

I go ICS in civ5, I've gone occ in civ2, ncc in civ2 even
>>
>>156884080
ICS was the most viable strategy in Civ V before BNW anyway

It's not so much that building lots of cities is impossible in V, it's actually completely possible and viable if you have the happiness resources to support it

The problem is that it requires a lot more micromanagement, luck, and strategy and you don't really get any benefit out of it, it's not any better than playing the super-safe, easy 4-city tradition game. The effort>reward ratio is way off

City building is about the same as in Civ5. There are non-combat magic spells that affect the entire game world (or a smaller area) but most of the magic is in the combat, which is where most of the game is focused. It's centered around hero units and exploring the world.

Civ VI is definitely the most complete and fun at release. It's hard to objectively judge it against IV and V because I only have the review copy, and it's missing content. It's also new, which means its a lot more novel.

However, it in general has most of the content from V at release, which means when it has the expansions it should be even better.

Yeah, that is basically it. Stonehenge lets you found a religion on it instead of having to build a holy site, and it gives some other random bonuses.

Oh, also random thing I wanted to throw out:

I can't believe I am saying this, but I don't really like Sean Bean's narration. I love him as an actor, but I don't know what it is. It might be the quote selection (which is really odd at times) or lack of direction, but he just seems kinda flat.

My favorite has definitely been Nimoy from V.

I actually like most of the quotes. Don't get me wrong there are a few that are weird, but what makes it up to me is that there are multiple quotes per tech/civic. Also, I'm glad that they added natural wonder quotes. I do agree that Sean Bean's narration is kind of weird though. It seems sort of stale, he doesn't really put too much emotion into it. I used to laugh at the "A Horse, A Horse, My kingdom for a horse" quote in V for how ridiculous it sounded, but now I'm kind of missing it desu. The quotes felt a lot more "alive" in past versions.

Russia, just like any other country, has a lot of variation in piety of any given indiviual, unlike some other nations, privacy is valued, I mean social privacy, lets not start the whole spies are everywhere shindig, as such it is very hard for a stranger to see how, if at all, religious any given person is. And tradition to bless everything stems from "couldn't hurt" mentality. That is to say people who believe get a raise in morale from the process, people who don't don't mind it.

Need for something uplifting and unifying is quite strong within Russian culture as a whole. Religion served this before and after soviets, during soviet times sports did. That banner on a picture with guns says "If we and sports are united we can't be defeated" just so you can see my point.

>>156899206

As opposed to cocksucker of orthodoxy? You do know Kievan Rus' converting to christianity was the Knyaz's political decision, not some pagan masses magically "converting" over a day, don't you? And the Knyaz didn't bother cleansing pagans "catholic way" either, which led to Orthodoxy becoming a mess of pagan and christian beliefs, aka even less connections to the Rome.
And the main reason of "easy" switch to "atheism" is most russians being retards who follow any bullshit spewed by the current ruling power. Tzarist Russia had whooping 70%+ illiteracy rate, can't build communism upon this base.

What the fuck? Nixon was a great president. If Watergate didn't tarnish his legacy, he'd be remembered as one of the top 5 presidents of all time.

I guess that just shows how good America's leaders have been. The worst of them (and Nixon isn't the worst) are just mediocre leaders who didn't get anything done. We're lucky like that.

Watergate cannot be exaggerated. Nixon was blatantly subverting democracy by using his Presidential authority to subvert the two party system. Many presidents like him and we'd have a one party system, kind of like China.
>>
>>156937513
The tape itself is literally nothing, the only issue is the few big name RINOs deciding to take this time disavow (JEB!, Cruz, and the like) that is letting the media spin it. I don't think that it'll matter too much, but it's going to depend how he handles it at the debate tomorrow. If he addresses it at the very start, apologizes, and says he wants to focus on policy and fixing the nation, he is probably gold

>>156937498

Trump never really had a chance. He is inexperienced in politics, he flies off the handle whenever someone makes a jab at him personally because he is so narcissistic, and the very base he has drown from the beginning only supports him because he is anti-diplomatic despite most of America recognizing the very obvious fact that being diplomatic is one of the most important parts of being a good president. This is why the Republican Party didn't want Trump nominated.
>>
>>156937675
>I admit it was stupid, and he should have been investigated, but people automatically assume he was a devil because of it.
As they should. Bad policy is one thing but destroying democracy earns you a special place in Hell.

That said, there are probably other presidents who deserve more hate for that reason too, though none come to mind at the moment.

The irony is that every election Republicans suck Reagan's cock, but Reagan himself wouldn't be able to even get nominated today.

I'm also convinced that if Romney ran today against Hillary, he'd manage a comfortable win. And the primary reason Romney lost when he did was due to the pushback against the antics of the retards in the house and senate.
>>
>>156937978
> Is the GOP willing to throw the election to Clinton just to ensure another four to eight years of the status quo?

>>
>>156937978
What's going to happen is Trump is going to limp on and then lose. Simple as that. The most fireworks we will see is Trump trying to drag the whole US government down with him by trying to convince as many people as possible that the system is rigged because the amazing Trump could never LOSE in a fair game. The man isn't a true part of the Republican party so he has nothing to lose by throwing the entire country under the bus to save face.
>>
>>156937978
The Republican leadership has to toss the evangelical vote by the wayside, and run a strong fiscally conservative, but socially moderate candidate.

They also have to clean house. They can't answer leftist crazy with right wing insanity to the nth degree
>>
>>156937984
Too bad the Republican base is so retarded these days that they can't even nomiated someone who can pass as a moderate. Maybe the Dems had it right. Maybe the Republicans should rig the primaries to get candidates through who have the best chance of winning instead of letting Tea Baggers screw everything up.

The video is nothing. The video is average Trump crap. It's him fucking around with a few other guys and talking about liking pussy. He said he tried to hit on a married woman at some point in his life, and failed. He then said that because he is a rich celebrity, women wanna fuck him, and he wants to fuck them.

As I said, the damage is in the media spin. The combination of the people who begrudgingly endorsed him getting out and pundit reaction to the video is pushing the "GOP IN DISARRAY THEY WANT TO KICK OUT TRUMP DEATH SPIRAL ITS OVER". CNN was even trying to push that Pence was resigning, and he literally had to release a statement telling them no, and then scheduled two events for Monday.

It has nothing to do with the video itself. Its the media using it to push the idea that Trump's campaign is about to fall apart. They did the same thing during the Khan and Mexican Judge crap. Of course, he had months to fix that, and he only has one month for this. During both of those you had "supporters" going "TRUMP IS A RACIST AND EVIL I DISAVOW"

I don't think its the end of his campaign flat out, he can still recover, but it's going to take a lot of skill and some good luck.

This election is essentially a crap shoot both ways. Hillary's support is fucking terrible among minorities (Polls are regularly showing her black support at around ~80, and Democrats usually get 92-94%), she doesn't do any events herself, and her voter enthusiasm is garbage.

Trump can't go a week without saying something in the worst possible way (even if it is correct) or having something brought up, and it always hits his numbers.

Overall, it's going to be up to voter turn out. If this latest scandal doesn't hurt Trump's voter enthusiasm, he'll win. If it does, he'll probably lose. That is as objective as you can put it.

Be more specific.

Strategic gear is a lot better than iron/dust stuff. Like a LOT better. One group of guys wrapped in titanium can kill ludicrous amounts of iron/dust armies on their own.
Morale counts for a lot too. Each point of morale is 15% more attack and defense. If you stick together and they don't, you're probably going to win.

I havent watched many Civ 6 streams so i dont know how stupid/waste of time this would be.

But if you were at war with a Civ you were just tired of their shit and instead of wiping them out could you cap a city then send a builder in to consume all the luxury/farm/etc. tiles then hand the barren city back to them during the peace treaty? Or would it leave the city with so many resources on hand that it would not hurt them as much.

Ive only seen people use builders for the hammers and food from clearing a forest/swamp so im not sure if there is a tile that gives you a chunk of science or culture that you can sort of take with you.
>>
>>156946154
You can probably do something along these lines, but it sounds like a grand waste of resources just to say fuck you to opposition
>>
>>156945278
Try to design units around what fighting class they are. For example, archers (especially wild walker ones with 4 range) don't need too much defense because they can zone out the enemy. Stacking Initiative will allow you to move far away, then attack. Stacking Attack will allow you to deal full damage against almost any defense, and Stacking damage will just let you kill things before they can close the distance on you. You need to be wary of Cavalry units though obviously, with their high combat movement they can rush your ranged units and shut them down really quickly, so you'll need to pick locations to fight in that have chokepoints and block them with meatshields.
>>
>>156945990
Hyperium and mithrite are terrible for gear. They're both so incredibly rare, needed for all those kickass fifth era buildings, and level two paladium and adamant gear is better anyway. I never even get the techs for the green and purple gear.
Paladium and adamant is common enough that, come era 3, you'll almost certainly have at least some if you've claim at least a moderate living space. If you still need more or somehow didn't get any, buy some at the market, gear up, and go claim some mineral-rich territory.
Keep in mind, you don't need to use full paladium or full titanium or even full strategic, mixing and matching is fine.
Also note that you don't need to equip ALL your guys with the stuff. Make two types of every unit you use and keep the second in iron/dust gear. Use them for your city garrisons and the first, strategic-equipped guys for going out and about.

The mod is a mess. It's cobbled together from different sources, the stolen art doesn't work when the civ's not you, I still have no idea what level of resource spawning is balanced, and then half the civ requires Events and Decisions utils to run but the civ doesn't have decisions unless you enable the actual Colonialist Legacies one for reasons I don't understand.

I mean I can still provide it but honestly it's awful work.

Nah.
Stellaris is distant worlds if you take out everything that makes it good.

The one thing stellaris has over DW is the UI, which ironically isn't even 100% paradox because a modder had to fix it to make it perfect for 1080p because for some reason paradox designs their UI's for 720p monitors.

I'm a theoretical 4x liker. I've tried out a few, starting with MoO2 as a kid as well as Civ2, Civ5 and Sins of a Solar Empire. I always end up feeling like they drag on too much and by the end of a scenario/map I'm bored by the repetitiveness and never end up playing more than one or maybe two maps, whether it's got relatively simple core gameplay like MoO2 or whatever the fuck is going on in Sins (which I got about 30 minutes into before deciding it wasn't for me).

I have the same issue with non-4x titles that are somewhat similar, like HoMM and the like, so obviously while I theoretically enjoy 4x games they're never really gonna be my kinda thing. But are there any that are a bit lower on the time-scale where playing a scenario can be measured in the dozens of turns rather than hundreds? I mean, I'm sure you can finish some of these games quick if you actually know what you're doing and are just trying to finish fast, but I'm talking more generally shorter scenarios. I do really enjoy the early parts of these games, but there are only so many times I can restart halfway through before said early game starts feeling pointless.
>>
>>156952613
Have you tried speed settings? Wast majority of games have them, and they really do alter game a lot.
>>
>>156952613
If you're anything like me the issue is not so much the duration of the game but the way turns break up the gameplay. Try more grand strategy games, and distant worlds.

VI is not going to be a(s much of a) stupid cash-grab as Beyond Earth.
BUT it may well be 1/3rd of a game on release. Because V was, way back in 2010. The difference is that VI will eventually be fixed, whereas BE never was.

So your answer your questions: yes, it will be better eventually, but that "eventually" might indeed be at the end of the DLC.

Unfortunately, since lasers aren't exactly particles they tend to diffract over long distances thanks to the wavefront slowly becoming larger.

A laser is pretty good at staying together, and you can get better ranges by increasing the width of the emitted beam, but it'll always fall apart at very long ranges compared to a piece of coherent matter.

If you're engaging at ranges long enough that physical matter at appreciable fractions of the speed of light are avoidable or inaccurate, you're probably engaging at a range at which your lasers have to be absolutely massive to do more than give the enemy fleet a suntan - and both lasers and physical ammunition will have to be fired with computer-aided guesses because of the inability to have any real-time information on your opponent.

Right, good point. Though the text was written in a sort of ambiguous way to fit for whatever enemy shows up if the player decided to wait.

It still doesn't explain why the boars had enchanted bones or wicker on them, especially that it seems Thea doesn't completely randomize loot from encounters.

So beasts tend to drop stuff they'd do in real life (certain type of meat, bones, leather etc.). Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining or anything, I just found this case interesting.

Well Galileo can go to anyone, but yeah, the great work bonus food and production combined with the super early neighborhoods is great
the neighborhoods also appear as if they always give at least +5 no matter where you put them, which means you don't gotta dick around with appeal

They're definitely going to be the kings of Tall, although I think the lack of access to a religious victory will hurt them significantly. Religious victory as it stands is super easy.

so to sum up,
the game is pretty good strategy,
city management and specialization is best
the thing is it's only "faster better stronger", so there is no lore, wonders and that role-playing shit, so it makes it kind empty somewhat
so the AI is actually good and smart to counter act that, so you have to always be on top of your game

It's not quite 1/r^2, it's a somewhat more complicated equation, also based on how much of the laser is interacting with itself instead of free space.

But yeah fundamentally the further away something is the less focused the laser will be.

>>156973001
Space Pirates and Zombies 3 : Electric Armchair.
>>
>>156974890
>also based on how much of the laser is interacting with itself instead of free space.
Probably. But I didn't gave a formula describing anything. EM radiations falls off proportionally to 1/r^2. ANY EM wave will do that, anywhere. It happens because Electric fields decay in that manner (and gravitational ones too). It has nothing to do with laser focusing, that is another problem entirely that it's not related. So you have
>r^-2
>laser focusing which will never be perfect and make it bad at larger distances
>>
>>156948417
So like civbe starships. Don't bother with the long range guns.
>>
>>156975268
That's the thing, it doesn't quite fall off proportional to 1/r^2 until it's travelled an appreciable distance because of the nature of the beam. The intensity is inversely proportionate to the square of the beam width, which isn't quite linearly scaled along the axis of movement. So at sufficiently short distances, with sufficiently wide beams, you can somewhat mitigate the effect.

Which fits with close range, because long-range lasers will reduce to being affected by the inverse square law and do nothing.

The r in 1/r^2 means the distance. Not beam radius. It comes from 1/(4pi*ε0) *(charge/r^2). I use "r" because I'm used to it. You could call it john. And I guess we agree lasers are bad for long distances in spess. Actually anything is. Ever played children of a dead earth?
>>
>>156976851
I know Coulomb's law, I'm saying that I was taught the beam stayed more coherent/focused than you'd expect at short distances (defined based on beam width) and approached the inverse square law behaviour at longer ones.

And no, I haven't, but simple consideration of the fact information can't move faster than light tells you the biggest problem with extreme-distance warfare.

The Great War is going well. Fighting continues on three fronts. The foothold in America is holding as fighting continues in the Rockies.

Our colonies in Australia duke it out. My first wave was repulsed but I reinforcements are inbound and a small continent of my navy is working its way along the southern coast.

Finally, Greenland's iron deposits have been secured from the Celtic vassal state of England. The fleet is about to have a small engagement and hopefully take Newfoundland, if only temporarily. It is more diversionary at this point.

It looks pretty good, I'll get it when I next have a decent chunk of internet to burn.

How does it handle information delay?
>>
>>156977920
It doesn't :^). Orbital mechanics are still realistic (and I agree with them) but they are calculated in chunks of time of your choosing (1 min, 30 min, 1 day etc). All fleets can be controlled (missiles, drones and chaps )by the player so there is no "information delay" because (you) are just the player, not some ship or control center like in ksp (with advanced comms mod) and the combat takes place in "small" distances like 60km tops.
>>
>>156978189
Yeah, that's fair. I was thinking of the nightmare it would be to try and code for things not actually being where the player perceives them to be based on where the player's viewpoint was at any given time - and then what that means if two fleets get into a fight light-minutes away from each other.

Especially if you have multiple gas giants in one system, plus normal habitable worlds. Even with Core Systems instead of Core Planets, I feel like the economy would have to be totally rebalanced if you could make gas giants habitable, unless they moved to something like a Core Sector system where you could designate a few core sectors up to a limit of X systems per sector, and extend the build costs, build time, and maintenance costs of larger empires so that these extra worlds actually had a point.
