Arabia only seems good, if all religions get found pretty quickly, if you have a civ in your game who doesnt have an affinity for finding a religion, then it sorta defeats the purpose of his civ trait
>>
Saladin looks quite meh desu.

Getting last prophet means that your religion will be crap

But desu it's accurate, Islam beliefs are a pile of garbage.
>>
>>155975956
He still gets Mamluks.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-Jpe5NID60
new first look if anyone missed it.
>Unique Unit: Mamluk
>Knight replacement, heals at the end of every turn, regardless of moves/attacks
>Unique Building: Madrasa
>University replacement, gives bonus science, and bonus faith
>Leader bonus, Righteousness of the faith
>Unique religious building for saladin costs much less, and gives massive bonuses to science and faith
>Civ Bonus The last prophet
>when the next to last great prophet is claimed, arabia automatically gets the last one, unless they have already claimed their great prophet
>>
>>155975970
I think it's better to consider that there's not going to be enough prophets for everyone, so it's a matter of you not needing to invest in Great Prophets at all and still being able to get the benefits of one.
>>
>>155975956

Consistency trumps chance. Just the fact that you will get a religion (with no ifs or buts) is good in my book. I mean, I've never played a single game of Civ 5 where all the religions weren't founded. Sometimes it's faster, sometimes it's slower.
>>
>>155975956
I think there are 4 religions for 6 civs game or sth like that
There's a small chance religions won't be picked quickly.

But if they don't AND you wanted to found religion with your UA then you are pretty much fucked and you get a shit religion with best beliefs already picked by others.

I'm not seeing myself playing it right away.
>>
Arabia's UA is going to hinge on how balanced beliefs are. If it is like civ 5 where the first 2 or 3 religions get all the beliefs worth a shit then the UA won't be that good
>>
>>155975956
>>155975970
Science bonuses are never meh anons.

also this is true >>155975979. Knights with March are sick

But I am a bit disappointed with how passive this civ is. It's literally just a bunch of bonuses that you get whether you like it or not, this is by far the most passive and default civ we have gotten until now.

>>
>>155976017

When they talk about a "unique religious building", they mean mosques, cathedrals, pagodas and such, right?
>>
>>155976296
Yea, but now they are their own belief class and every religion gets one and only one
>>
>>155976185
science bonuses qre never meh, but I believe they are less powerful in VI because of the civics tree.

The Sumer get science bonuses early and Arabia gets them at University/religion when they build faith buildings; this signals to me that Sumer is probably better at science game since you aren't bound by a 1 uni per city
>>
Can Joseph Smith be a great Propher? Or L Ron Hubbard?
>>
>>155976384
Zigaruts take up growth tiles though, especially if you build them next to rivers
>>
>>155976483
You can just demolish them later can't you
Even being 3 or 4 techs ahead of others by classical gives you disgusting snowball potential.
>>
>>155976384
>but I believe they are less powerful in VI because of the civics tree.
could be, only time will tell

>this signals to me that Sumer is probably better at science game since you aren't bound by a 1 uni per city
Not so sure about that desu, the ziggurat will (probably) give +1bpt (and +1 cpt next to rivers) but since it is a unique improvement that means you have to sacrifice potentially valuable tile improvements (farms next to fresh water!) to spam it and get its money's worth. But Arabia's bonuses are built in, you don't have to sacrifice other tiles to get them, it also has 2 sources of +science, not just the uni.

but then again, most of this is speculation, we really need to play the game to tell
>>
>>155976483
then I guess you can switch them to farms once their bonus gets too small

I can think of more strategies as Sumer, with Arabia it's just a sim city imho
>>
>>155976542
Probably, i still think they will be the best UI in the game, and are Sumerias best bonus, but im just pointing out that they have to make sacrifices for there early game science
>>
>>155976589
Before farms get to +2 food you probably will be better off with ziggurats

and ziggurats will mean you get to +2 food farms and universities quicker and then just ditch them

I take that over "improved university" any time
>>

I hope (as a polish guy) that they won't go for the winged hussar again. We have more than that in our history and would like some other UU and then introduce Hussar with Sobieski as the alternate leader

I suspect polish civ will get some culture bonuses or maybe religion ones. Religious tolerance was a pretty big thing in our history up until the partitioning I think

>>
>>155977346
but Poland will be only for the 2nd time, I'll keep on dreaming they won't be going for the obvious this time around
>>
>>155977346
Well it's basically what Spain is most famous for. As a chink I'm pretty annoyed at Chu-ko-nus, mainly because China has never had a '''special unit''' besides having units everyone else eventually came up with, earlier.
I bet Tercios and Rodeleros could work though.
>>
>>155977346

>>

>>
>>155977816
It works, kind of, because it's just an early gunpowder unit, kind of like a musketman but earlier than everyone else. That's the type I'd want if you had to choose a unit.
To be honest I'd prefer China's gimmick to have a second UI or UB instead of having a UU at all.
>>
>>155978001
I think every civ needs to have a UU.
>>
>>155977957
And the French are led by an Italian
The precedent is well-established by now
>>
>>155977994
Tercio are basically Spain's version of the Swiss pikes at roughly the same time. It's not that hard to think of those, at least.

>>155978071
That's my problem though. China doesn't actually have any 'unique' units that they're famous for. Maybe the Ming arquebusiers but those were the same as anyone else.
>>
>>155978093
This fuckin "1 Civ led by 1 Eternal Leader" needs to stop.

Bring back CivIV multiple leader, give each Civ at least 3 leaders, add succession mechanics. Done
>>
>>155978114
You could have a medieval gunpowder unit though, handcannoners or a rocket for example.

Already a thing.

>>155978317
Yeah that's why I said it kind of works for the cannon, but even then the rocket and handguns were mainly useful for being hella fucking scary and easy to train and giving you an edge in melee combat since people decided to tie rockets to their spears and fire them off before contact like some explosive javelin.
The CKN works, it's just that replacing the crossbow is retarded because they're literally not the same unit and not used for the same shit and often used in tandem.

>>155978391
China has always used human wave tactics, the casualties are insane.

So we don't deal with Civ with a single temperament.

So every n turns a single civ can get different bonuses. This is also useful in diplomacy, for example a hotheaded AI Civ might change leader to a more levelheaded one you can deal with. Or turn even more dangerous.

The UA seems downright terrible while everything else for Salad is pretty good. UU is solid, UB is solid, Leader Ability is good for religion victory by conquest or just spreading wide.

The UA though - I don't think there's any other Civ6 UA which is a one-and-done ability like Arabia's, nor where it's not a bonus but rather a failsafe.

>>155976069

If religion and founder beliefs are first come first serve then Arabia's UA is a self-defeating liability. Yes, it allows you to prioritize stuff other than faith..but doing so means you're left with last-call choices. But if you focus on faith then it destroys the utility of your UA.

What the UA should have been is the same seal of the prophet guaranteed great prophet but in addition you can choose religious beliefs or founder beliefs already selected by a competing religion. Or something like Byzantium's "You get an extra reformation belief".

Russia better also be a science civ or pic related. I'm an Arabiaboo but Peter just fucking screams science (and production) civ. Something like either a civ ability or leader ability that links science/technology boosts with diplomacy or international interaction ("Every time you meet a new civ or city state you get a boost to technology in whatever that civ was researching/that city state is oriented - so meet maritime city state and you get a maritime tech boost"). That was literally his biggest schtick besides an autistic obsession with building a navy and building a city.

Civ gameplay advancement are too linear. Small Civ getting stronger, dead civ stays dead, no entirely new civ rising from the interaction between 2 civs...

Seems like a pretty bland civ desu. The only really unique deviation from the most generic of play styles is that you can completely ignore the religion game early on.
>>
>>155980048

Way way back in the long long ago, I took Stalin's capital in a surprise attack with a catapult. The catastrophe caused Russia to split in two, with half their cities remaining white, and the other half turning blue and becoming the new nation of Germany, under Frederick. Even as young as I was, the memory of it is indelible.

Imagine if this ancient 'civil war' mechanic somehow made it into the modern games, and the shitstorm it would cause.

>The only really unique deviation from the most generic of play styles is that you can completely ignore the religion game early on.
The problem is that if you're actually concerned about religion then the Arabic UA is useless to you, because you'll want to be bootstrapping faith and get one of the FIRST prophets so you can get the good beliefs.
Last Prophet is only relevant if you don't care about religion very much, and if that's the case, ipso facto you don't need it then either.
>>
>>155979981
>You mean a naval invasion
Well, I'd hope a certain amount of salty wetness was involved, yeah.

On the other hand, you can never be certain that a thrust of your attack does not miss teh intended target and ends up penetrating into areas further to the rear.
This might require some more preparations because the point where you breach the defenses can be a bit tighter in such cases.

>>
>>155982091
That depends on how they implement Deity. If they give the civs huge bonuses on turn 1 then you are correct. However early and very late game will be the only times you can actually be ahead if they only give AIs persistent bonuses on Deity.

CBP does the latter and you can reliably claim wonders and such in the Ancient Era because of it.

INCOMING FACTS ABOUT CIV6 CIVS ONCE AGAIN (NOT OPINIONS!)

>Pax Romana tier
Rome

>Top tier
China, Greece, Germany, Brazil, England, Kongo, Sumer

>Pretty good tier
Aztecs, India, Japan, Scythia, Spain, Arabia

>Okay tier
America, France, Egypt, Norway

>Shit tier
None so far, which is great

>>
>>155986864

Also, I think Rome has been too overrated around here... yeah it's free shit everywhere, but I think Brazil's adjacency science bonuses are more terrifying, and can help hues snowball extremely well.
>>
>>155986937
The guaranteed religion bonus is pretty mediocre, but everything else seems solid to me
>>
>>155986864
America is going to be underrated until launch. Then everyone is going to realize how powerful it is to have a combat bonus on your own continent. It's basically like your units are nearly an era ahead of everyone else from the very beginning of the game.

Is Civ IV's Fall from Heaven II fun?
I have never played IV though. I have only ever owned III and V.

I felt like trying it. It looks similar to AoW, and I enjoyed AoW III.

Does Civ V has a equivalent version of it?

There may still be more to the UA we don't know yet. They haven''t necessarily had all the details in these First Look videos, to the point where they emphasized that Gilgamesh had more than they listed on the same day as the video.

To bring up the leak from earlier, by the way, was it Kongo or Afonso who gets the +5 Great Work Slots in the Capital?

It's the whole continent, which at least lets you swing your dick and slap off whoever shares it from the start. I'd call that "helping you win", even if that's only one or two other Civs.
>>
>>155987950
Isn't there that RoM equivalent

>>155988119
It's not the entire landmass though. It lets you slap off people who are close to you but that's about it and on Huge maps it's unlikely there's going to be more than one or two who spawn close enough for it to even matter and god help you if it's Montezuma or Rome or some shit that cares not about your puny gimmicks
>>
>>155987906
>>155987407
>>155988119
England is going to be OP as hell on the new Pangea maps. It's one large landmass but made out of several continents.

Imagine spawning right next to the division between continents. Just expand that way and like 75% of the world will give you a combat bonus.

I was only counting the in-game division for a continent because they still said the map script would try to generate something like a "continent"(/map division) for every 2-3 civs in a game. It's true that the Aztecs are just about a hard-counter to an early rush from Teddy, though; 28 strength Warriors means they only need 2 luxuries to match that +10.

>>155988308
It's only for the Redcoats, though. They'll definitely shine in their time, but it's not a constant for all of England's units.

>>

>>
>>155992168
How come Civ 5 modding never really took off?
>>
>>155992685
The game itself changed so many core mechanics that old mods couldn't be ported or used for inspiration
'historical' modding became basically impossible with all the systems it added.
The game isn't conducive to modding to begin with and the original draw of the game was minuscule, CiVanilla was just that fucking bad.
Multiplayer support is terrible making many people just quit the game before they got into it enough to mod it.

As well as them getting that delicious half production industrial district that gets bonus production if it's near other districts or resources. They might not be exciting but Germany is going to be a production powerhouse, since you can make the industrial district pretty early on, and you can bet that every German city is going to build one first.

Founder Beliefs
>Church Property: Gold +2 for each city following this Religion
>Lay Ministry: Each Holy Site or Theater Square district in a city following this Religion provides +1 Faith or +1 Cult respectively
>Papal Primacy: Type bonuses from City-States following your Religion 50% more powerful.
>Pilgrimage: Faith +2 for every city following this Religion in other civilizations
>Stewardship: Each Campus or Commercial Hub district in a city following this Religion provides +1 Science or +1 Gold respectively
>Tithe: +1 Gold for every 4 followers of this Religion
>World Church: Culture +1 for every 5 followers of this Religion in other civilizations
>Defender of the Faith: Combat units gain +10 Combat Strength near friendly cities that follow this Religion
>Holy Order: Missionaries and Apostles are 30% cheaper to Purchase
>Itinerant Preachers: Religion spreads to cities 30% further away
>Crusade: Combat units gain +10 Combat Strength near foreign cities that follow this Religion
>Missionary Zeal: Religious units ignore movement costs of terrain and features
>Monastic Isolation: Your Religion's pressure never drops due to losses in Theological Combat
>Scripture: Religious spread from adjacent city pressure is 25% stronger. Boosted to 50% once Printing Press is researched
>>
>>156006435
why the hell is tithe still a thing
>>
>>156006435

Follower Beliefs
>Divine Inspiration: All world wonders provide +4 Faith.
>Feed the World: Shrines and Temples provide Food equal to their intrinsic Faith output
>Jesuit Education: May purchase Campus and Theater Square district buildings with Faith
>Reliquaries: Relics have triple yield of both Faith and Tourism
>Religious Community: Shrines and Temples each provide +1 Housing
>Work Ethic: +1 Production for each follower
>Zen Meditation: +1 Amenity in cities with 2 specialty districts

Worship Beliefs
>Cathedral: +4 Faith, 1 slot for religious art
>Gurdwara: +3 Faith; +2 Food
>Meeting House: +3 Faith; +2 Production
>Mosque: +3 Faith; Missionaries and >Apostles +1 Spread Religion charge
>Pagoda: +3 Faith; +1 Housing
>Synagogue: +5 Faith
>Wat: +3 Faith; +2 Science

They're entwined. When you found a religion, you pick a Follower Belief and a Founder Belief. You can then burn two Apostles to grab another Founder Belief and a Worship Belief.

(Noting too that there are 14 Founder Beliefs; this is probably so that most everyone has at least a partial shot at grabbing a Founder Belief they might like, since the pool stays open longer.)

Work ethic seems really good. +1 production from each pop.
Also, combat enhancing beliefs provide flat bonuses, which means they are more relevant early on and lose their relative impact as units get stronger over time.

If I were to make an optimal belief, I would go for:

>Work Ethic: +1 Production for each follower
>Gurdwara: +3 Faith; +2 Food

It also adds an optional, complete reskin of normal buldings for snow-covered styled ones and a new set of asiatic/oriental buildings.

The mod was made by a team of German ANNO modders, so the translations are a bit wonky and some things don't have descriptions, but it's really nice.
Vencice-like construction also require complex instructions because the way it's implemented is that you need to build roads on the sea-floor and then place the buildings over the water, so it's a bit confusing if you don't read about it beforehand.

They also made a similar version of this mod for ANNO 2070 called ARRC 2170.

Yeah, it's basically local happiness.

You need 1 Amenity for every 2 population over 1 (so 3 = 1, 5=2, 7=3, etc.) to keep a city happy, if you have more amenities than you need, you get growth and yield bonuses, I think there's at least two stages of happiness, like at +1-2 Amenities and at +3-4 Amenities.

Luxury resources give +1 Amenity per unique resource per city, but each copy normally only covers 4 cities' worth (so it'll probably be worth it to actually get multiple copies and not just for trading fodder)

>>
>>156032209
Adjacent Water access determines the starting Housing- no water= base 2 Housing, salt water (coastal)= base 3 Housing, fresh water (river, lake, oasis)= base 5 Housing.

The Aqueduct district adds +2 Housing to cities with fresh water access, or brings the base Housing up to 6 for those without. (Baths add an additional +1 Housing)

Palace adds +2 Housing in your capital.
Granary adds +2 Housing (built in the City Center)

Farms and Plantations add +0.5 Housing each.
Barracks and Stables (built in Encampments) add +1 Housing.
University (built in Campus) adds +1 Housing.
Lighthouse (built in Harbor) adds +1 Housing.

Neighborhoods add a variable amount of Housing based on the Appeal of the tile they're sited on.
(The Mbanza ignores this and adds a flat +5 Housing, but must be built on Rainforest or Woods tiles)

There will be other ways to boost Housing, that's just some of the known numbers.

>It adds more stuff? wtf?
Yes, it adds new products and Needs, as well as smaller, less powerful versions of already existing buildings, among other things.
It also changes the original needs of all settlers (cow products are Citizen Need, instead of a Nobility one, and nobles get even more luxury needs).

You gotta be careful when starting pre-designed scenarios like the original campaign though. Since the settlers have new Needs but the scenarios themselves are left untouched you will have riots barely starting the game because their needs are not being met.

>Does it work well though? is it polished?
I believe every mechanic works at it should, but you will have problem understanding some things since some of the new buildings descriptions (because they lack german translation on some things((?)) are blank and you have to figure out what they do by experimenting.

For some reason two of the Venice scenarios had their descriptions erased, their pictures replaced and they had voice added to them, but if I remember correctly they work as they should.

Your production layout guides will probably become useless, because IAAM changes the size of several the farms and their number required for each production building.

See? this is one of the things IAAM changes. You cannot build salt mines until later on, but you have a new method of collecting salt.

Salt works.
You need to build them on the coast and add three salt deposits in the water near it for it to produce salt.
You can later on remove them and replace them with more advanced & efficient salt mines, which will save you more space at the coast for other buildings.

Pic related is what salt works should look like.

You might have also noticed that cider farms also now use 1x1 trees, but you need much more of them to have 100% efficiency for each farm.

You might be able to play 2070 online, but I'm not sure. 2070 definitely has Uplay, though

Both 1404 and 2070 have very good.mod overhauls made by the same german team, which is what >>156044572 is using for 1404.

Yes, Anon.

I still don't think adding more stuff to this game is a good thing.

I barely had space to make a good city in the base game but now with that mod a fucking citizen needs +5 different buildings and the farms take more space, tool making much more inefficient....

How do you cram everything in the layout now? Or even in the tiny island?

saula deen seems to be better for higher difficulties. At Deity, where it's nearly impossible to compete with the AI for faith and science (initially), he gets boosts to both plus a guaranteed religion (which is a pipe dream in Deity outside of a few lucky situations)

his stuff sounds like it would be harder to appreciate on shit like Prince or King, where it's dead easy to net a religion almost immediately. It also allows for the ability to both guarantee a shot for Religious Victory on higher difficulties, and to combat opponents' religious advances without straight up going to war

the problem with a general Indian civ is that the history of the Indian subcontinent has been a clusterfuck of a bunch of different big empires and notable people. The place has been united as 'India' for a pretty short while. Kinda how China hasn't been 'China' for, like, a century. It was named after the different dynasties and people who ruled it

Making an Indian civ is almost like making a Europe civ and making the leader some random country's leader, for the most part

I mean the Strategic View is cluttered as fuck which is why it completely misses its own point, not that you can't understand the normal map
The strategic map is essentially Simple Terrain map mode for HoI / EU plus counters for units and resources and stuff, or it should be. As it is, it's actually more cluttered and unreadable than the normal map.

Also, yeah, if you defeat an enemy unit through theological combat in range of a city, you reduce the religious pressure of whatever religion they're sponsoring. So if you defeat, say, a Buddhist Apostle with your Hellenism Inquisitor, you reduce the local Buddhist presence.

The visual balance is so fucked. The vertical spacing first of all, they're probably gonna fix that after adding in more things in the actual menu part of the menu, but also the 2k logo is really throwing off the visual balance. If you're going for that kind of "clean" look, little details can easily fuck the whole thing up.

Pro tip: if you want to have a challenging AI in a game as complex as Civ, you need to either:
- simplify the game and greatly reduce amount of choices, so it's easier for the AI to find the optimal path
- be a drooling retard
If you want to play against better opponent than CPU, then play multiplayer.

One of the biggest things I'm into is the change to culture and civics. I like how certain units, wonders, and abilities are locked behind civics. It makes science civs less OP and gives culture focused civs a fighting chance.
>>
>>156076323

I don't think I'll get used to the new tech tree in a long while. It just feels so barren when it's split into culture and science. Supposedly combined there's a lot more techs than in Civ 5, but still.
>>
>>156076050
>>156076196
As far as AI goes, I don't really think it's cheats that's ever really been the problem, it's how the cheats are executed. Giving AI civs effectively unlimited happiness in V was boring because it cut off any mechanics and strategies that reduced their happiness; if they need the AI to play a different game to remain competitive, they could have implemented a different workaround so that they could handle more cities without tanking themselves through stupidity but still be vulnerable to a directed culture/ideology offensive, for instance.

Or how giving them shitloads of free units doesn't really make them stronger, just more annoying to fight, especially when handing out free promotions would at least make their army individually a tougher nut to crack.

Then they have the nerve to play the victim whenever a developer ships a sub-par title for their money. How ironic.

>>156076050

>>156075954

>>
>>156076867
Dunno, I've seen AI cheating really badly.
In Empire Earth, the worst I've seen, the AI spawns with unlimited ressources and build everything at once and then wait, instead of developping like normal players.
In Endless Legend, it doesn't seem to research anything, it unlocks techs at fixed turns, and is someone able to build entire fleets.

>>
>>156077257
Space Rangers 2s planetary mission AI is probably one of the worst cheating AI offenders i've ever seen. Imagine an RTS where you had to capture resource points in order to increase your resources to build units and the AI doesn't. on top of having huge amount of starting resources they just get flat out get ludicrous resources regardless of how many points they own. In fact having less bases means they don't have to spread out their forces.

And god help you if multiple enemy factions decide to just team up against you.
