The dimension are just for the aesthetic actually, I used to make 960x544 background, but they looked stretched, it's because I didn't take into account the bar, that's why 960x512 is the best option.
If only converting them into 8-bit depth wasn't necessary it would be great, maybe you didn't edit the theme.xml properly with the name of the pictures, and I assume they are in .png right ?

I believe you should use TinyFormat (it's a homebrew app) it will delete basically everything off your 3DS.

If you want to keep your NNID linked you have to do it twice from what I remember. Someone else needs to confirm this because I never kept my NNID linked. Also the ambassador thing really isn't that important because after you finish with this you can basically install any GBA if someone has uploaded it.

TheFlow is a legend and I don't see why people don't see it. Although he put work into something he didn't like or condone (I presume), he (?) did it to make the community happy and its in your hands.
