How do I get my stubborn friend to play this game?

He tried it previously and got to level 10. Quit and said he didn't like the game. He was pretty shit at it, but that's expected of someone who is new.

I've already tried making deals. I've told him I'd teach him how to play in customs, we'd practice against bots first, wouldn't play normals until he knows how to play, etc.
He refuses to tell me what is exactly wrong with the game. I think it's the people that play it(?), and I've already told him how to mute everyone.

Being alone sucks.

Been playing Sona and Janna, played a couple of normals with Bard too

Am I wrong to hate getting jhin into my braum? I honestly feel like the lane is weaker because of how long it takes jhin to help pop the passive. A number of times I've had ashe, trist and jinx stomp 2v2s and even 2v3s because they could pop my stun so easily. Maybe I'm just shit.

If the players are worse than you, its an easy game to practice awareness/lane mechanics/item builds/item timings! You can even learn some crazy pocket picks! If they are better, and that's a big if with such a strong player such as yourself, you get to learn how to cope with getting shit stomped in an environment that doesn't ruin the fun for everyone else involved!

But either way that shouldn't be much of a problem, warming up on silvers is a great way to get ready for your gold 3 promos! Lets just hope you win the first one, because we all know the next time you queue its going to be a loss haha :)

Frozen Mallet Gnar is broken, Ekko still broken. Rek'sai still top tier even after the nerfs. Jhin is broken. Ashe is strong because every other adc got nerfed. Poppy nerfed to oblivion. How do I feel like I'm doing enough as Rek or Hecarim? Every time I them I go tank with one damage item and I just feel like my goal is to CC people and hope my team is good enough. They never feel like they do enough damage on their own. I know being a tank is important but if my teams lagging behind I don't feel like I can carry it on my own.

I don't know what elo you monkeys play at but I've almost never seen an ADC that wouldn't take every fight. They have to fight for their CS, they don't have a choice. On the other hand every single support will hide behind their ADC like they're the squishy ones that have to farm, like they're the high priority target. They will flash to their tower the moment they take a point of damage. This role and these players have no place in this game and I sincerely hope Riot removes it next season as they've seen how much damage it does to queue times and the game's integrity.

How do I know what specific items to build against what champs? I know MR/Armor against champs but how do I know what specific item counters what champ? I've always played support and just built tank/sup items but now that I main jungle I've been a bit lost. I just usually look at probuild and build what ever they have.

Kindred's still really good once you realize that attack speed stacking is a meme.

Attack speed is good, but you need some damage to back it up.
It's also less reliant on getting a shitload of marks and getting ahead early.

Never tried triforce though, could be okay.
