What do you guys think of Galactic Civ III? Is it similar to stellaris? Is it worth buying on sale?
>>
>>154599545
It's pretty much the same as Gal Civ 2 if I recall.
Is it still in development?

Get it on a very good sale.
>>
>>154599545
I heard it was shallow.
But didn't played it myself.
>>
>>154599854
It wasn't so much that it was shallow.
It was that the player could very easily min/max his planets to shit out ships and just roll over the AI. I believe they fixed that to some degree though.

Oh my god, this must be terrifying. Having your entire race enslaved to be used as hosts for some plague that makes more biomass xenos.

I have shit food production and growth too, but that doesnt really matter aslong as I keep conquering for more hosts.

Could they not have taken a page from Vox Populi's book and not have made the new Tech tree so restricting?

It looks just as terrible as vanilla Civ5. Here's to hoping the addition of the Civics tree will give the player more choice in how they want to grow their empire.

As stated in last thread;

Let people colonize moons, asteroids, planetoids, and orbital stations around gas giants in space game. It's dumb you can colonize only habitable worlds when these games feature FTL ships that can sustain crews and/or large space stations for years at a time.
>>
>>154612993
This is why I like Distant Worlds.
>can build a resort station near a beautiful star
>can build a science station in the middle of nowhere
>>
>>154608384
Don't forget to ask for help and tell me if you liked it.
I like knowing I helped another people to develop good taste.
>>
>>154612993
dat is a sexy space base
>>
>>154612993
How many billion people are there on that moonbase?
>>
>>154612993
How would you increase the gravity for the moon? It's not like you can build a giant spinning section like for ships.
>>
Is there a reason why the AI in Stellaris doesn't try to attack me early on? I've been placed beside 2 empires with superior fleet capacity & power, but they won't try shit with me because I have some slightly better tech. My strongest ships are Destroyers with tier 3 lasers and missiles but they wont attack me with their cruisers. Is it because I have defense stations everywhere?

I have the difficulty on Insane with highly aggressive AI.
>>
What is the ideal Corvette/Destroyer/Cruiser/Battleship ratio?

I'm currently running with 13/7/3/1, but I feel that might have too many Corvettes and not enough heavy weaponry.

Would you guys suggest something simpler, like 4/3/2/1?
>>
>>154611861
October.
>>
Should I transition from Wormhole FTL to Psi Jump Drive?
>>
>>154616451
One battleship for each support module. No cruisers. Fuckload of destroyers with a large weapon of your choice.

No corvettes. Corvettes are shitter disposable ships that you spam during war time to somewhat replenish your fleets should everything else gets wrekt.
>>
>>154616451
You should always have a shitload of corvettes to soak up damage for the rest of your fleet. In late game I use destroyers in their place because they can have 3-5 point-defense guns to swat down missiles.
>>
>>154612993
What the fuck is that guy doing at the top level? Self-simulating weightlessness while his buddy is pushing weights?
>>
>>154617113
He's running laps along the wall. I'm not sure if that's effective exercise.
>>
>>154616697
Terrbad idea.
>>
>>154614697

What's the meme here? Why do people imply that all habitable world's require billions of people like modern humans have? Most humans live in poverty, they don't have the beyond 1st world luxury and technology that space empire would have.

Earth sized world's would be something like 2 billion maximum population. Each Stellaris population could be something near 150,000 million people instead of a billion each, which isn't very realistic.
>>
>>154616697
Only if you want Slaanesh to rape you.
>>
>>154616741
>One battleship for each support module.
All right, 4/3/2/1 takes up 26 points of Fleet.

Assuming a proportional increase of X5, we end up with 20/15/10/5. This means that our basic 'Strike Force' will take up 130 points of Fleet.

130 goes into 1000 7 times evenly, for a final (proportional) fleet composition of 140/105/70/35.

That's significantly more heavy weaponry brought to the fight than I had been working with.
>>
>>154617742
The Prethoryn have already arrived.

Frankly, I should have kick-started the machine rebellion; it would have been easier to deal with.
>>
>>154618038
With the excess 90 Fleet points, the Fleet could be accompanied by 3 of the 4/3/2/1 squadrons -- or they could be left behind to defend the territory.

Thanks, guys; this was helpful.
>>
>>154618992
Or 10 more Battleships (two of each module), which would significantly increase the amount of firepower brought to the front.

Either or.
>>
>>154618138
Well i'd slap on Psi drive's so you can escape the rape, hope you have a colony ship to escape with.
>>

have any of you ever played this game?
I've been around with it since the first days, was able to beta test it and played on release
the game itself is pretty cool implementation, well balanced and strategy heavy
now I never got the addon, but from what I heard it truly holds the best AI out there, that seems to be so good it had to be nerfed
people even said its much better than Beyond Earth
would be nice seeing some bros playing it, as it a well deserving game
and also a good distraction till we get Civ6 and get disappointed again

I can't say if it's good, but it's original.
For starter, each planet produces only one ressources. Most often, it's water and food, and you have to export the ressources to another planet to develop it. If you keep undevelopped planets, you'll lose money.
Second, you can't stockpile money. If you get 50k credits from taxes but spend 48k of them to pay the upkeep, you only have 2k credits to spend. You can't wait the next month to have 4k, everything you haven't spent is automatically spent.
Fleets are actually just flagships followed by smaller escorts. If the flagship dies, the fleet is useless.
Ship plans are completely free, the only ressources used are money and production. Not gold, diamonds, supraconductors, electronics, metal.
The fuel and ammos are replaced by supplies. When a fleet runs out of supplies, it causes less damage instead of dying like in Star Ruler 1.
Diplomacy is done by spending influence points to buy and use cards that gives you bonuses (like getting intel on the enemy defenses, or naming a flagship or a planet).
There are many ressources that gives strange "pressures" bonuses to your planet. Simply put, it unlocks buildings that will be built automatically and don't cost anything.

Ressources are pretty much infinite, except for construction materials found on asteroids.
It's really confusing at first because it doesn't feel like a 4X, it feels like a puzzle game where you just link planets together.

The names District XX SX are because I used to name my cities on these two continents like that back in the good old days. The SX means Sector number. There were 6 sectors with 15-20 cities plus about 14 cities in the 'B' sector on the Eastern continent. B sector cities were the old and current city states and capitals. Only 6 of the original 24 City States retain their original names.

Yes. This is the screenshot of the world after it was rebuilt and after the second Great Burning, which consumed only the South Western parts of the Eastern Continent. This was a few years before the English launched a massive invasion of the Eastern Continent that ultimately led to Augustus' fall and basically the entire continent burned/glowed with atomic fire.

Austria is really starting to build up a presence on this continent. District 8 S3 used to be Carthage's capital. They were annex by the English in around 1700's.

I'm trying to track all the current nuclear arsenals of the other civs, but I can't seem to find them. I know Ramalamadingdong has at least 4 nukes and I could only find two of them and they haven't used them for sure. They're probably on a carrier somewhere.

Nah, Zulu capital was District B8 here. That is the only city Shaka built after he was liberated, when Poland was still standing as well. No idea wtf the point of that was, but that's what he did.

He didn't have much of a chance against Siam because Shaka was in renaissance or something while Siam was in modern age.

If everyone in the world today lived with modern first world demands for resources and services the world would be supremely over populated to support this.

In space future tech, people would have even more demands for high technology and greater resources to supply even a single member of the population. As such, it is not unreasonable to think that people would be much more 'thin' in how they spread out. Remind yourself that, perhaps in a far flung future, people may intentionally depopulate or sustain lower populations to have better economic and luxury opportunities. It is not unreasonable at all that in a science fiction society where you can live in massive space stations, aboard star ships, on asteroid moon bases or on other planets living on a habitable world is not your only choice. Since people could basically live anywhere, they could be more 'spread out'.

Indonesians founded a city right at Siam's border and that incited a war.

Siam nuked two cities after their attack force and most of their navy was decimated at Indonesian shores.

Indonesia founded another city next to Siam shortly after the war began.

Austria and England are now the only civs in possession of nuclear weapons.

My capital is 2 pops away from 70 and I'm starting to run into problems with happiness. I can't build anything to get more of it. Looking to settle a few cities to get more luxury resources (I only have 5).

Theodora is not at war with anyone at the moment and they still hold on to their capital.

Austria has founded a new city on my continent and they are currently the most powerful civ(excluding myself).

Austria is currently fielding four GDR's.

According to a report, 25 World wonders are left out of 48. 3 in my capital, 5 in Siam, 10 in Theodora's capital and 7 in Indonesian cities.

Maria Theresa declared war on Indonesia. Her attack force on the South Western continent has embarked towards the Indonesian capital.

Indonesian forces are mostly deployed in the Eastern continent against Siam so they're pretty vulnerable here. I can't find Austria's nukes anywhere and I'm starting to think they've used them at some point.

It's pretty unlikely that Austrians gain any ground though. They mainly have subs and no stealth bombers in this continent.

I've moved my troops on the Eastern continent to observe Siamese movements as a preparation. I'm expecting Austria and Siam to go to war at some point as well.

Theodora declared war on Indonesia as well. Everyone's jumping in on this it seems. The second the Indonesians were weakened by the Siamese nuclear weapons, they're getting attacked on all sides. I think Theodora might be able to wrestle away one of the smaller cities on her peninsula or maybe both.

Austria's assault was a complete clusterfuck. They have not used their nuclear weapon yet.

Theodora didn't manage to get the second city because Indonesian reinforcements got there in time and she doesn't have any troops left.

Siam founded their first city in a long ass time. Last time they founded a city, the middle age Zulus were still around.

Indonesia has a pretty firm grip of the Iroquois subcontinent in the East. They just founded a new city there.

It's very difficult for the AI to attack that peninsula, so they are quite secure. It took the Romans a long time before they conquered Pocatello, the original inhabitant of that region.

Indonesians are now the weakest civ according to statistics. That's quite a drop considering they rivaled Austria and Siam just a few dozen turns ago.

I see nothing wrong with it, games are set arbitrary prices, in no way shape or form prices are a standard of how much was spent or how good is the game,
some big companies mostly just push out games to jew out money, while other developers genuinely try to push out decent games
so what is really worth is trying the game with a free copy really, easier than asking refund, and a lot of people simply don't have the funds for the game atm
when you are sure its a good game and you want to support the developer, etc all that crap

The underlying system is pretty interesting and leaves plenty room to maneuver. There's 10 difficulty advancements: at Hard setting it steps up at every 15 turns (at Medium it takes 1.5 times / at Easy 2.5 times longer). However, this doesn't apply automatically.

It only affects newly spawned enemies, and (to my best knowledge) that can only happen if a lair is destroyed OR every creatures belong to it. Where's the twist? By destroying a lair, you can get maximum 4 extra turns / level AND enemies can freely roam around.

See, I'm at turn 357 and still see plenty 2-3 skull enemies / lairs but I also have 5-skull ones (like the Tomb above) that spawned ages ago. What's fantastic that you can act according to your best interest and (minus tiny restrictions) everything is generated randomly.

Then at one point, the game's difficulty spike gets brutal. Thanks to the latest (otherwise massive and free) DLC, Giants start to appear to provide a real end-game experience. Now, I haven't met any yet (though I found a Giant Nest with this fella inside) but it's inevitable.

>>154651970
Wait, you didn't get an Orc from the event despite the description? You know, this is the random event when the Orcs need Tools to crack a vault, and you can offer to work together. At the end, the Orc leader proposes a barter: one of your men in exchange for hers.

Everyone's always super pissed about everything in every new Civilization game.

>new game comes up
>sticks to its roots with cartoony graphics
>people are mad
>add in features from the past games
>people are mad because they're recycling
>don't add in features from the past games and come up with new ones
>people are mad because it's dumbed down

Firaxis really can't win. Even if they made the best, most perfect Civilization, people would still bitch about shit.

Vast majority of the info has been gathered from the game's Steam discussion section (as this seem to be the most active by far), often provided by the devs themselves. Feel free to check them.

Just two quick examples: https://steamcommunity.com/app/378720/discussions/0/487877107138000785/ or https://steamcommunity.com/app/378720/discussions/0/353916584663218535/

>don't you mean by destroying monters lairs you actually allow for higher tier lairs to spawn?

From my understanding, maximum monster / lair levels is determined by difficulty advancements BUT other aspects (e.g distance from your town or number of active / destroyed lairs) are also taken into account.

This isn't purely an observer game. I'm still in the reigns of my civ. If you want to do something similar, I recommend picking a few mods that add a bit randomness to the game, domination only, huge map, 12+ civs and 20 CS then play normally. If you end up like I did with you and you have a humongous AI civ against you, then stomp that fucker and burn everything you can and liberate capitals/CS and after you've done that, get loads of dosh to nuke yourself into oblivion as well until you have nothing but your own capital, then disband your entire military and sit back and watch as the liberated AI's start anew.

Anything above Emperor difficulty is good for that kind of match. Also, remember to disable inflation. If you have inflation on, you won't be able to sustain a meaningful military after 2200 because every unit costs 100+ gold per turn.

If you want a match with nothing but AI's then you'll have to do some digging, because I have no idea how to do that, but I've heard it's possible.

InfoAddict is a nice mod to have enabled when you start. You can get some neat graphs of the world history with that mod.

Wow, Indonesia. That is a really rude fucking place to settle.

Also, Austria is suffering from revolts because they're idiots and refuse to give up their little impossible social experiment "Freedom" that would never work. They should just embrace Order like any sensible nation has. Theodora is also trying to pretend Autocracy "works" for her.

Indonesia has built a few new cities in the North Western continent and they've built up military next to Theodora to make another clusterfuck of an assault against her capital.

Siam already tried attacking Theodora some time earlier and got BTFO as usual. Theodora isn't fucking around anymore when it comes to defense of her homeland.

My efforts to clear out the fall out from the North Western continent is proceeding nicely. I've cleared out about 1/4 of the continent and I think I'll stop soon to clean and scrub my home continent completely.

another game to check out is Eador: Genesis

Eador Masters of the Broken World is the same game but with a graphical/UI update and a ton of bugs that haven't been fixed; I played primarily on this version but fans of Genesis say there's pretty much no reason to buy this version over the original

Eador Imperium is a standalone expansion/sequel (same UI and reused assets) to Masters of the Broken World but it hasn't left early access yet so chances are all the main bugs of Masters of the Broken World are still there. I'll probably shill it after Early Access ends assuming it's not a broken mess and actually has content

Like adding friendly fire or something that stops the game's space combat from solely being "My 100 ship wedge vs Your 100 ship wedge." I figure modding the Naval Capacity stuff to be lower is one way, but I'd rather have a fair amount of small fleets than one huge one or one tiny one.

It's playable, not buggy or laggy as hell, and the first few playthroughs the early game exploration is really cool, the midgame experience depends on your playstyle, and the end game crisis that can happen are really awaesome and scary whene you run into them the first time.

With mods you can make the otherwise tedious and sometimes infuriating mid and lategame a fun experience, too.

Y beautiful battles is the companion to Z so they're supposed to go together. Z just fixes the visuals, Y fixes everything underneath.

If you want something that feels more vanilla but adds a lot of shit to the endgame look at improved space battles and the submods. Adds titan and leviathan class ships, supercarriers, planet destroyers.
>>
>>154612993
Why do you care? The game's are usually built around not being able to colonize them, so it doesn't affect gameplay at all.

It's not realistic, so that can't be it.

Do you just want more consistency in how your numbers are displayed or something? is it purely aesthetic?

Xcom 2 is about a rogue group of terrorists who try their best to avoid being detected on almost every mission.

No stealth kills

this, honestly. I had a lot of fun with it, im not gonna deny that, but its fucking boring that they chalk it up to being humanities last effort, with only a few soldiers, but in the actual game its just xcom but with less bulky troops. theres no stealth or gorilla tactics whatsoever.

but thats not what I want at all? its not like they need to remove every fucking element of the original. its more like putting any fucking effort in to feel like its actually a game where you play as rogue agents, terrorists. which is what the story is all about. theres only like 20 of you, yet you always go in guns blazing and theres no other options. its like battlefield 1. whats the point of having a different and unique setting if they dont put any work into making it feel different and unique.

Firaxis have a wildly different idea on what constitutes revolutionary activity than most tacticooly inclined people.
For Firaxis it's about bombastic punk looking fuckers blowing shit up and sticking it to "The Man" rather than sneaky guerilla terrorists doing stealthy tacticool shit. But while their thematic choices can be criticized, the gameplay itself is mostly good and fun, other than the pod system still being a thing. And the final bossfight, that was fucking awful.
People complaining about thematic inconsistencies in xcom are like people complaining about historical inaccuracies in civ games.
>>
>>154697923

Right, because terrorists all go shouting the whole time they're setting up a bomb someplace.

All those times we had to go in to set up a bomb on something we could have just parked a Ryder truck full of fertilizer next to.

But then the game would be controversial. Can't have that.

Yes. Once you discover where they can be gathered on the map and unlocked them in the Research Screen, all you have to do is camp there (or in an adjacent tile) and start gathering it (speed depends on the skill level of participants).

All those what I mentioned above are low-tier materials that I have direct an easy access (usually, in a 5 tile radius around my village). Dismantling usually net some minimal losses, but it's definitely worth to maximize those RPs per turn.

>>154696645
>>154697006
And Crafting (weapons, armour, food etc.) and Construction (obviously, buildings). The demo is the Early Access version, but it should also have these basic categories. Oh, and you can get (not-researched) materials from loot or random events.

>>154698041
I found it a month ago after Anon mentioned it here. It looked promising (active support even after 1 year, made by ex-CD Projekt RED devs, Slav mythology, RTS/4X/RPG hybrid w/ card game combat system, lot of random elements) and hooked on it ever since.

Not a problem for cultists, since none of the pearl upgrades form the altar worth it, so you can spend all the pearls on the city.
>Also am I missing something, or is cavalry just not very good?
They have pretty high initiative and movement range, so they can attack archers/supports first and thus denying them a turn. And archers lose a lot of firepower when they are not able to focus units.

I really like how Endless Legend does thing with it's factions and how battles work and everything.
When I first got the game I was all about the Broken Lords and the Cultists with how they worked, but things just really clicked with me an the Forgotten. My custom faction had the increased dust on tiles, halved infiltration cost, and the halved city expansions, while losing like 20% of dust on that capital, along with starting with very little dust, so you have to settle in a good spot to start, but once you got there you could spread out like no body's business. I called them Beggar Kings.

But I'm still pretty terrible when it comes to things like good build orders, what I need to get, and military matters.

Every factions plays very differently. The Broken Lords are incomparable with the Wild Walkers in their way of playing and so on
Sometimes I don't want to play the exact same faction all the time, but rather a faction that is different, but doesn't require a completely different approach to playing
Civ V has it that while every faction is different from one another in the way they play. But ultimately all the factions are very much alike

The only way to fix doomstacks is to have maximum fleet capacities tied to admiral skill. This would at least split one stack into several. The next step is to make it so fleets autoreplenish losses as the main reason for doomstacks is to mitigate the tedium of replacing losses. Finally some degree of espionage needs to be in the game so you can gather intel on enemy fleet power and composition so you dont need to commit your full force to one front in one fleet.

I remember reading one post on paradox's forums about the retarded ai spamming starports in sectors during war. That particular post I can't forget because it's the closest I got to getting cancer from looking at something. Anyway, It went along the lines of
>"because a planet's starport is the center of commerce and infrastructure it makes sense that the sector ai keeps building them"

These are the people push features because they are what shits up forums with suggestions. Let that sink in. It is why I'm convinced the game cannot be fixed even if there is will to do so.
>>
>>154737883
No, because Crusader Kings 2 isn't a RTS or a 4x. They do talk about it on /gsg/.

And if anything, Crusader Kings is mostly about trying to keep your dynasty alive. The land you own can easily be lost.
>>
>>154737883

That's a Grand Strategy game, located at /gsg/

Anyway, as for the type of game it's totally different. In Crusader Kings you don't actually play as a nation or single leader, you play as a royal family or succession of leaders going down the line. You secure political marriages, raise children, have wars and so forth.

The game is pretty sandboxy without set goals as to what you should be doing for the most part.

Turn 4000 closing in.

I've had the game on "autopilot" to let things unfold for a while and it looks like Indonesians are giving the Siamese a hard time. Siam lost the entire navy against Indonesians, but Indonesians lost two small cities on the Northern part of the Eastern landmass.

Nothing particularly interesting happening other in this war though. It's been mainly small naval skirmishes since those two cities fell.

I should get back in control in 24 turns.
>>
>>154737883
Crusader Kings 2 isn't exactly strategy.
You can lose all the land and money you have, as long as a character from your family is alive, you don't lose.

Also, EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER in the world has its own agenda and will betray you.

What i mean is your familys traits affect your holdings a lot, so there is a strategic aspect there.
This isnt so important for smaller holdings and minor families. But at the duke level or king level you can start doing all kinds of shit like playing with culture and religion and so on.

In Civ VI? Not that I've noticed. There's just the four categories- Military, Economic, Diplomatic, and Wildcard- and Wildcard slots can hold any of the four, but not vice versa.

So Greece having an extra Wildcard slot means they can always slot in any policy in any government, even the starting Chiefdom which normally only has 1 Military and 1 Economic slot.

Alternatively, wonders overall seem like they have better benefits, but you still won't be able to build all the wonders in your cap like 5, you might be only able to get a few per city

Damn, the last 30 turns have been intense. Indonesia got BTFO by Theodora on the Eastern continent and lost Batam to her.

Meanwhile in the Western continents, Austria razed one Indonesian city with the help of their allied city states of District 13 S6 and District 12 S6. Austrians were ultimately beaten by Indonesian navy when they tried to go for the Indonesian capital.

Another notable even was The City state of District 11 of Sector 2 razing the Indonesian city in the Northern shore of the South Western continent after they seriously BTFO of Indonesian forces there. Nice going, District 11 S2.

Currently Indonesia and Siam are fighting on multiple fronts. Indonesian navy is harassing Siamese forces around District B9 and fighting off Siamese invaders trying to cross the gulf in the middle of the Eastern continent. Indonesia captured Mogadishu on the Iroquois peninsula, thus securing the entire peninsula in the Eastern continent.

Theodora founded a brand new city on her peninsula. Her position in the peninsula is starting to get quite secure apart from the one small Indonesian city there.

Indonesians are getting a little break however, because they recently signed a peace treaty with Austria and Theodora.

Siam is currently very weak due to their massive losses against Indonesia, so I wouldn't be surprised if Austria goes after Siam next. Austria currently has probably the most powerful land army in the world and a very significant navy and is probably the most powerful civ around right now.

Congress of Misery and Death will gather to discuss the repeal of Nuclear non-proliferation so the world may once more enjoy the pleasures of atomic glow after going 12 years straight with no nuclear blasts in any major cities. Banning incense is also on the list because that's an important thing to ban for reasons.

That's all the news for now, thanks for tuning in, I'm Chancellor Elizabeth reporting from Post-Nuclear Communist Empire of England.

I don't need to call you a shill to attack you liking the removal of 'doomstacks'.
>muh strategic positioning
You can conquer the world with like ten units, production means more or less fuck-all past that, you have even MORE micro than doomstacks because you need to position carpets in waves. You also make units in general have really weird scaling with buildings and if you want an archer unit you're set back a goddamn granary.
>m-muh doomstacks remove all strategy
Four Trebuchets eat half your units alive and the rest can be ripped to shreds by a few pikemen with good positioning no matter how huge your stack is.
Creating doomstacks also eats a lot of hammers and a lot of maintenance which could be used to create a better base economy.
>it creates better frontlines instead of huge battles
If you were worth your salt in Civ IV multiplayer you did that too because doomstacks were suicidal and can only defend a few tiles and can be held back with many fewer units given good positioning and support artillery / archers. Removing the option for doomstacks adds nothing to the game because the AI actually is even fucking worse at handling 1UPT compared to doomstacks, especially because production means more or less shit-all with the way 1UPT frontlines work and the AI can't compensate by cheating its production.
1UPT isn't just a step back, it literally made the game not Civilization and turned it into some shittier version of Total War using counters instead of armies.

Indonesia has begun colonizing the barren wasteland of North Western continent after English workers conclude Operation Mend-it on the continent

Indonesia founded a new city of Bandar Lampung in the Iroquois peninsula and have almost entirely secured the entire peninsula for themselves apart from a few tiles here and there. Siamese-Indonesian war still continues in a stalemate.

English workers have started to move out of the North Western continent after scrubbing the Western half of continent clean of fallout in the unclaimed lands. English efforts to clear out irradiated ruins of the old world will continue in the English home continent.

Byzantine empire has founded a city on the ruins of the old Indonesian city of Jayapura that was recently razed by the neighboring city state in the most recent Austro-Indonesian conflict.

Siam has also founded a new city in the Northernmost shore of the Eastern continent recently. Congress of Misery and Death will convene in September 2256 to elect Chancellor Elizabeth of the Post-Nuclear Communist Empire of England as the world leader.

Following your game, I can't help but hope for proper environment changing events in future Civs, maybe even in Civ 6. Something near-permanent, and not something you can just scrub off like fallout in Civ 5. I recall one Civilization game had nukes turning tiles into desert. Civ 4, maybe? I forget.
>>
>>154752884
Civ II iirc had global warming which would turn everything into desert by endgame.
>>
>>154753134
I think it turned terrain into swamps.
>>
>>154752884
Civ 1 - 3 had that.

Or rather, something like that. They had a global warming mechanic that started turning the planet into desert (grassland shifting to plains shifting to desert), and turned tiles near the sea into marsh from being flooded.
It was based on Pollution, which was caused by having 'too much' production. How this was calculated, I don't know, but it was some simply threshold mechanic, because I managed to have games that experienced global warming by the time there was gunpowder.

Nukes created fallout (similar to what we get in Civ5), but also added pollution.
This meant a nuclear war or three would turn most of the planet into desert, and this process was irreversible.
>>
>>154753469
That's depressing.
>>
>>154752884
I wish there was even a possibility of a full-blown nuclear holocaust in future civs. It's impossible to have that in Civ V. They should seriously make a proper Cold War expansion for Civ VI that makes late-game proxy wars, rebellions and impending threat of nuclear apocalypse actual things.

Civ IV got close to this with the ICBM's and AI's tendency to actually build them, but they never used them en masse and their arsenals could be wiped out with a first strike because they didn't understand the concept of second strike capability.

I don't remember if I had global warming that early, but I did get polluted tiles before gunpowder.

Like if you had a 4 resource plains/grassland(with shields)+rivers city, and then you got King Richards Crusade in that city, your production could go kinda crazy.

The polluted tiles were the same type of pollution that nukes produced.

So I tried to play Warlords Battlecry 3.
Frankly, it's tedious. Ressources gathering is SLOW, the units are slow and retarded while enemies units always mysteriously outrange me despite being the fucking same thing, and my hero dies in two hits and never get any experience.
>>
>>154757317
>Ressources gathering is SLOW
Did you fill your mines with workers?
Did you take control of more mines?
>>
>>154757793
Yes.
Yes.

What bothers me is that resources generation is slow AND limited. I found out you can destroy mines to get 100, 200 or 300 ressources, but even with that, it's just slow. And all the units are fucking walking, it's like the map is just Central Park and units are frolicking until they eventually meet their enemies.
>>
>>154740292
It's nice that he shaves his armpits.
>>
>>154753469
that was a pretty good mechanic, you had overpopulation and overproduction, which had to be balanced with health/cleaning buildings, I am almost sure Civ4 had a similar thing as well
this was also inherited from SMAC,
in general if you had some blown out production or overpopulation you can cause pollution in early times, before you had the ability to clean it up, but it was rarer, but only when you reach industrial age that it starts to become a real issue, and then nuclear wars would wrek everything
another proof that Civ5 is just a newfag cluster fuck

To celebrate the 4000th turn and 70th anniversary of the Great Decimation of 2190, here's a brief summary of the recent history.

>By the year 2140, English and Roman empires had been in a stalemate for 36 years since the last English incursion of 2104 when half of the Eastern continent burned to the ground along with the entire North Western continent.
>2140 was marked by the formation of a massive naval blockade of the entire Eastern Continent and Roman Empire in a preparation for the ultimate English assault on the Eastern continent
>Some years later, the English empire launched a massive invasion by sea, air and land following countless nuclear detonations along the Roman coastal cities that resulted in the decimation of the entire Western half of the continent and all coastal cities.
>This war lasted for approximately 15 years and resulted in hundreds of nuclear detonations across the entire continent rendered the continent an irradiated wasteland of city ruins and burning infrastructure. The war resulted in the complete destruction of the Roman empire.
>>
>>154758813

Peter is one of us

>When peter could not sleep at night he would call for a servant to lie down by him, and resth is head on the man's body. More often than not, Alexashaka Menshikov served as the Tsar's pillow."

>"Nothing could have made peter more conspicuous than his incognito. A muscovite tsar with the mind of a boy and the manners of a bear at table, subject besides to extraordinary convulsions, to claustrophobia when put into a small chamber and to rage when he was quartered in a place with high ceilings - this phenomenon stirred the curiousity of the nobility throughout the German states. The electress of Brandenburg and Hanover were 'dying of curiousity to see him."
>"At the castle of Koppenburgge Peter agreed to meet and sup with these ladies..But when he found the building crowded with people he retreated hastily into the village. When he was persuaded to enter the reception room he covered his hface with his hands, muttering in Gmerna "I can't speak! I can't speak!"
>"This is his old dread of strange people. When he is joined by some of his companions he manages better. In the courtyard he drinks some wine quietly and goes in to the table. He does not know what to do with his napkin and forks. To the time honored question of al lbothered hostesses - what does he like best to do? He answers bluntly. "I have no liking for games, for hunting, or music. I like shipbuilding and fireworks". By way of proof he shows his calloused hands.
>He does not come off badly, speaking in a strange language under the sharp eye of the electress..."if he were educated, his would be a fine mind, for he has a quick understanding and natural wit"

I built those cities around the capital as fast as I could early on in the beginning when I found out there's a 1 tile wide gap to the eastern part of the continent. I thought I was alone on an island so I didn't bother with the cities at first, but then I wanted to quickly fill my side of the continent with cities before Carthage would come to my side. That rush of cities basically fucked up everything because my side of the continent only has 3 luxury resources, excluding the 2 extra resources the city states around had.

My capital was always pathetic. Rome had a population of 59 before this happened >>154761959

What the hell is the logic for Nuclear Missiles having such a ridiculously short range?
>>
>>154768132
I dunno. Civ IV had great nukes and they totally butchered them in Civ V.

Why the fuck don't they actually intentionally create a proper system for nukes with automatic retaliatory strikes and an AI that actually hoards them if they can or must so we can have a proper late game cold war?
>>
>>154768326
>>154768132
If I had to guess they didn't want players getting frustrated after repeatedly losing games because the AI would just wipe out their entire civilization in or too turns in the late game. Also creating entirely new gameplay mechanics is hard.
>>
Do we know anything about building wide empires in VI? I always thought the penalization in V was overly harsh and forced you into 3-4 cities max, so as not to gimp your culture and science output.
>>
>>154768880
wide and tall is going to be, for the most part, pretty balanced in civ 6. theres no global happiness but you also need to balance city wide happiness. and with districts requiring population, workers having charges, workers/settlers increasing slightly in cost every one you make...lots of reasons to make a wide or a tall empire depending on your playstyle/civ.
>>
>>154768849
They would need to make it so that the AI can't just wipe out a civ with nukes outright without massive setbacks like economic sanctions for using nukes, retaliatory strike from pre-targeted nukes and shit like that.

Getting tons of nukes to wipe out civs shouldn't be easy, but it should be possible and it should be possible to have some kind of MAD doctrine in place by having a nuclear arms race.

I could easily see MAD system working by having pre-targetable nukes that would automatically launch if the AI attacks you with nukes and the ICBMs could have one turn delay before they strike to make that possible. Also having diplomatic options for "posturing" that would allow you to make it clear to the AI that if they strike you with nuclear weapons, you will respond with full force, or if they attack X civ with nukes, you will retaliate etc. Of course you'd need a respectable amount of nukes to make the threat credible.

Then there could be missile defense systems and buildings that would make it possible for some of your population to survive the nuclear strikes and enable you to shoot down some, but not too many of the nukes inbound towards your territory kind of like the SDI in Civ IV, but not that good. Also, a missile defense system similar to SDI could be a diplomatic thing and building it despite another nuclear power's protest could trigger a nuclear war.

Nuclear war should also have serious consequences similar to the global warming thing in Civ IV, except that it should be more severe the more nukes are used.

Civ IV already had this possibility of MAD and cold war, but it didn't exactly work because AI was too retarded to use more than one nuke per turn and they didn't regard them as a strategic deterrent or something to use as a revenge weapon in case their cities are nuked to oblivion.

Core worlds are overrated as fuck. All you need is some initial time to clear off all the tile blockers, cover the planet in level 1 power plants/mines/labs, enough farms with orbital hydroponics and place the power hub/processing plant. Once youre done with this and parked the assisting science ship in orbit you can just kick it off to a sector and hope the AI will keep upgrading it.

In fact, building up planets in Stellaris is still generally horrible and unfun and it doesnt feel like youre improving anything.

Imperium Galactica had the best planetary building system of all space 4x
>>
>>154778225

its going to be the perfect defense against the scythians, and probably aztecs as well. +10 strength for every nearby hoplite is huge.

I think its caped at one adjacency bonus, otherwise it would get out of hand rather quickly.

I do find it weird that there seem ti be a lot of culture civs and no science civs yet, even though they now seem like very similar resources
>>
>>154779815
The fuck are you smoking? They will become obsolete before you could use them in fights anyway.
>>
>>154778225
>>154779815
>>154781971
>>154782250

Hoplite is an Ancient Era unit, so it only has 1 gold upkeep (upkeep goes up by the era of the unit).

As long as you've got two Hoplites, each is a 35 strength unit, up to 45 strength against mounted units. In comparison, two eras later, Pikemen are 41 strength and Knights are 48 strength.

Having them around for a long time gives them a chance to be promoted by later eras, too - the "spear" promotion tree includes one for +10 against melee units and +5 against mounted units.

Basically Hoplites are strong enough to keep using as your main army until you get MUSKETMEN in the Renaissance, and they're cheaper than more "modern" armies to boot.
>>
>>154781971
probably because they realized how busted science-focused civs are from civ 5
>>154782250
you could say the same thing about the aztecs eagle warriors or the scythians mounted horse archers because they're both from the ancient era as well. except not. spearmen dont upgrade to pikemen until the medieval era, and until that point (and probably after as well if you have a large force) they will keep any other aggressive civ, especially the scythians with their mass cavalry, at bay.
>>
>>154778403
> Rebuilding Ringworlds soon hopefully

I'm not on board with this whole
> "The player should be able to build / rebuild ringworlds :^) "
meme. I prefer the galaxy to be filled with the incomprehensible million-years-old monuments of fallen gods, not the comprehensible monuments of just-another-species people whose tech you can easily surpass in 300 game years.

And entirely aside from the flavour complaints, repairing / building ringworlds just adds to the whole "All systems are the same and there's no strategic value in any given one" problem. I want ringworlds (or, indeed, ANYTHING in Stellaris) to be vitally important grand-strategic prizes all the way to the endgame that you desperately want to fight for control over. If you can manufacture them, they become something you can just say "Eh I don't care, I'll just turtle some more and research until I can make my own"
>>
Master of Orion (2016) will be pretty decent after it gets an expansion. They need to balance some of the victory conditions too, Science victory is ridiculously easy to get.
>>
>>154782492
Yea but that is CIV V, and culture is its own tech tree in this, plus most buildings give flat yeilds instead of percent bonuses.

So while science may still be very important, I doubt it will be civ v levels of the entire game revolving around it
>>
>>154782772

This. Everything is so bland and boring. All those unobtanium forges and buildings barely get used ever because the station upgrades are unimportant, the buildings are a waste of a slot and they come too late to make any difference.

Plus the way the game works you can just turtle up and keep reinvesting all your minerals in more minerals, more pops working more tiles and more science until you can build a fleet of tachyon battleships and go conquer the galaxy and purge everything. Outside of the very early game there is no feeling of growth or expansion whatsoever.

Not even ideology is worth fighting over because everyone is a target, Everyone can be bribed into wars aganist their ideological friends and conquest is to easy that everyone is a targe because wars are decided in a single battle of doomstacks. Even if you want to be a peacenik and build a federation for whatever reason, its still easier to war, liberate and then befriend for free.

The game is such a fucking boring mess it feels like an internal alpha avaiting feature implementation or something. Literally one of the few geat moments I had with this game was finding Sanctuary, listening its creepy noises and wondering who the hell could have left it behind. Then in the same game I shat on two fallen empires with ringworld capitals with my doomfleet and all the mystery left.
>>
>>154782492
>>154783185

Also, even if you do a science civ they don't need the magnitude of bonuses that the science civs in V got, as well as be a strictly science oriented civ.

I could see Arabia have both science and religion bonuses
>>
>>154779726
The only good thing about core worlds is that the AI doesn't fuck up their space stations.
I have to use my core worlds as my shipyards, because
A) if you try to put a ship build queue on a sector planet it's a chore to check when the queue is finished
B) if you put a bunch of strategic-resource shipyard modules on a sector world then chances are you'll accidentally remove the resource system from that sector some time down the line and it'll stop working, and
C) the sector AI just fucking LOVES replacing the strategic resource modules with Synchronised Defences or Solar Panels or some shit, so your ships end up with 50% less armour than they should have

Basically the entire shipbuilding process is a fucking confused mess. There's no automation for the things that would actually be USEFUL - like automatically building to cap and rally-pointing to your doomstack - and stupid counterproductive automation for stuff you don't really need anyway, like station modules. I have to keep a core world slot free for a forward fleet base because if I build Crew Quarters and Engineering Bays on a Lv.3 station the AI just overrides them with Orbital Hydroponics and I end up paying thousands of energy more in fleet upkeep than I should be doing.

You can chalk that one up to the horrible UI. Sector and planet management is generally just horrible.

>>
>>154783437
> Then in the same game I shat on two fallen empires with ringworld capitals with my doomfleet and all the mystery left.

I think part of the problem is that Paradox has somehow forgotten that asymmetry is FUN. In EUIV it's a real big fucking achievement if you start as a one-province country and by the end of the game you can even SURVIVE France's ire, let alone defeat it. Whereas in Stellaris you can't NOT get to the point where you can squish Fallen Empires like bugs, just as an automatic consequence of research.

Stellaris is an (allegedly) grand strategic game that doesn't actually contain any grand strategy. Because there's no strategic locations, no strategic builds (apart from tachyships + torpvettes, but when there's only one build there is therefore no strategy behind it), no strategic alliances (because the AI isn't good enough to make alliances worth your time except in the very early game, and near-symmetrical starts means they can't substitute France-like quantity for quality), strategic resources aren't worth shit, etcetera.

Pretty much the only FUN things are anomaly scanning in the early game (of your first 2 playthroughs), and discovering Sanctuary.
There really needs to be more shit like Sanctuary, tbqh. Setpiece special systems that maybe only spawn once per galaxy, but are really cool and impressive. If they had like 10 of those, that would at least keep *one* thread of novelty/wonder/mystery alive for more than a couple of playthroughs.

How hard do you save-scum /civ4xg/
I have reloaded this one save 5 times now because the game keeps flinging bullshit at me and my medic died a while back
>>
>>154788321
Never.
I take my defeats like a man.
Which is often quite depressing and makes me not want to play any more. Also means my Rimworld colonies last for about 5 hours max.
>>
>>154788520
at the moment I'm save scumming because the game is flawed; not because RNG is fucking me

I normally take my defeats like a man (hence why my medic is dead) but these aren't defeats so much as targeting bullshit opening my units to attack
unit order is 1 > 2 > 3 right?
1 and 3 are enemies
1 will deal no damage through my units shield over both parts of the battle phase
3 will kill my unit
my unit can attack either 1 or 3 and kill either
my unit attacks 1 every fucking time

and the worst part? they flip flop seemingly based on what is the worst fuckup. If 3 would deal no damage in the 2nd battle phase and 1 would kill then the unit almost always attacks 3

I'm getting mad because I've had the same shit happen on every reload

I must have restarted about 30 games not trying to get a village that doesn't have shit resources.

I really wish Thea added some way for you to extend your village's borders and/or a way to make forward settlements and roads to recollect more resources easier.

I guess it's my fault for wanting to play a Fantasy Survival game as an Fantasy Empire Building one. I still want those things, though.
>>
>>154788321
That really depends on the amount of RNG a game throws at me, and in what way
.
If it's just plain RNG, not a lot.

If it's RNG with the AI just shamelessly getting a bonus, a lot more.

If it's all RNG all the time, I'll probably try to get an observer mode going to watch the AI do hilariously retarded RNG things.

Yeah, that's a fun achievement to get. Was that your playthrough? If so I don't know how you did it. you can actually expand you village borders, it s the building behind the palisade so you need at least 4 points to get there, and also quality of the material dependent,
so its pretty late game thing, for you to leave more people at base gathering, if you have good resources nearby
>>
>>154788321

Yeah I tend to save-scum from time to time, fucking infestations in rimworld are a good example of that

I really think the less people you have the more likely you are to get random people

>>
>>154797151
Does it simply expand one row of hexagons around the village? Because that really isn't very useful, considering that most resources are found very far away.

>>154797516
Something like that, I was expecting something on a much larger scale, with settlements composed of more than 50 people and the chance for them to expand like they do in Endless Legend.

In the early game it might mean a 20-40% increase in production. you do have to prioritize bronze working and animal husbandry, but in multiplayer that bonus is huge, because it allows you to get workers and settlers out faster which allow you to develop those cities faster etc.

Like any other buildings, its effects depends on the tier quality of materials used, so I'd say it should go for 3 or 4 hex maximum (imo that should be pretty big to encompass at least all nearby resources)

I never got the wide vs. tall meme. Historically, 'wide' empires either became taller throughout or were wide only in name like Russia who's more or less a greater germany-sized blob around moscow and the rest of which is almost empty. Tall nations naturally became wide, with or without outright conquest, because of a weird trickling effect to nearby lands (sort of like the culture mechanic I guess).

I agree that a rebuild is not as technology-level offensive as a newbuild, but it's still more technology-level offensive than I'd like.

There's one way I'd be OK with it. I know everyone shits on the random tech tree, but I'd actually like it to be MORE random for "Crazy hypertech" things like ringworld repair. In the same way that you can never research wormholes if you choose warp to start with, I'd like some mid to high-level trees that can't be accessed except by once-a-game. Maybe super-effective fighters to the extent that you change to a carrier-only fleet, or a tech that doubles the fleet cap to 2000 so you go for cheap corvette swarms, or something. Techs that are really fucking good and if an AI manages to get on the tree you won't be able to miss it 'cos it's really obvious he's exploiting it for all it's worth.

And then empires actually would become distinguishable. Like Civ, there'd be an era shift when people unlock their supertech in the midgame, and the optimal playstyle then fractures depending what you got. So someone who researched Super Synthetics really does replace all their organic pops; someone who researched The Matrix keeps the organic pops but can terraform their own worlds into AI planets for mad gainz; someone researches Asteroid Habitats and suddenly gets mandatory 0% happiness on normie worlds but can colonize rocks and mine immense riches from them; stuff like that.

...sorry, we were talking about rimgworlds. Yeah, maybe the "Ringworld understanding" tree starts if you settle Sanctuary, lets you inhabit all 10 or so segments (at the cost of making everyone NOT on a ringworld super unhappy), and encourages you to essentially become a 1-system power (like a Fallen Empire?) whose population is vast but your lazy, coddled pops don't like leaving their edenic homes so your fleet maintenance cost shoots through the roof?
>>
>>154811015
I too would like it to be more random. I think the problem is simply that there are too few techs, so even if it's random, you'll still end up getting just about everything.
