How do I make my military dwarves spar?

All they do is individual combat drills and dodging demonstrations. Neither of which improves their armor user skill.

>armor user skill
This pisses me off so much!
I wish I could make their Armor User skill go up over time simply by wearing the armor around and fucking sleeping in it 24/7. (at slower pace then actually wearing it in combat ofc)
But noooooo. Instead I have a team of legendary fucking axedwarves that are literally a bunch of pineapple cans sitting in a stockpile and moving 1 meter per hour when they need to respond to an attack.
>>
So, Toady has 3 events this month, right?
Can anybody tell me where each one, dont remember to have read it on the forums
>>
>>154496606
I think you must cross a certain skill treshold before they start sparring.
>>
>>154494570
Nope, I came up on it from the south over the ridge thankfully, waited a while until the magma cleared enough and was able to get some loot, left the slab down in there though, would have to swim through magma to reach it apparently.

Unless you specify further ("i: change item type"), "items" is any item. Those five hundred or so crafts you plan to sell? they're items, and prevent you from brewing right now.

Press "p: add conditions from products" for drink and seeds conditions, delete the seeds one and modify the drink one.
"r" would do the same for reagents (plants and food containers), if you wanted to limit the number of plants left for food or something

Change the init files so that your population cap is lower, you'll stop getting migrant waves (after the first two hardcoded ones) once you hit the cap.

Alternatively make a tiny danger room, put them all inside it via burrows and start pulling levers until only the strongest survive.
>>
>>154509276
Nothing unusual about that.
Put them to work. Expand your industries, get your military up to snuff, dig deeper. The game doesn't really start until that big 3rd migrant wave.

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Short sword" bullshit that's going on in Dwarf Fortress right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a short sword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a dwarf wearing full adamantium armor with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better raws in the game. Here are the raws I propose for Katanas:
[ITEM_WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_KATANA]

[NAME:katana:katanas]

A nameless creature that kills a historical figure gains a name and becomes historical itself. When that spider killed your friend it gained the name "Dumfokash", which translates to Mouthhunger. Why DF chooses to display the translated name in some contexts and the untranslated name in others is a mystery.
Incidentally, killing Mouthhungers will count as a notable kill for you, so only 4 more until the game gives you a ridiculous random title.

DFHack is out of the question. So is the rapist? dang.

Remove bottom layer and they won't have their big friends anymore. Setting demon types to 0 will remove the goblins altogether, but remoring the bottom layer will just keep them from having demons.
>>
>>154537728
It's a bit higher for sparring to start. The lower limit seems to be somewhere around proficient or talented for fighter skill, or possibly for any offensive combat skill.
As for armor user, it only affects how much armor encumbers its wearer, not how well it absorbs hits.
>>
>>154538643
So lore wise goblins are just minor demons?

Heh. Basically every dwarf world with goblins is an apocalypse in the making.

Can also try removing [USE_EVIL_ANIMALS] or if you prefer them to have beak dogs and such, remove [SLOW_LEARNER] from trolls, or do what I did: give them different biome preferences. Gobs which want to settle on glaciers and avoid other things mean you get neat neighbors when you settle on them, but they don't take over the rest of the map the same way.

The ones that can swim don't seem all that eager to get out of the pool. I'm not sure what they're doing. The one that can't swim is staying alive by virtue of the fact that I happened to have the first part of a pump stack already set up, which keeps his head above water often enough to let him catch his breath after I pumped away one tile.

Are they just going to have a pool party now? Perhaps they're going to pretend they jumped in there intentionally.

Square tiles are limited in how they fill the screen, in fort mode it may not matter but it is nice to have the view filled with your immediate surroundings in adventurer mode, rather than a little circle with a huge spread of blackness beyond. You can only go up to 24x24 with square and no twbt before the game scales it down on a 1920x1080 monitor (or 16x16 on a 1366x768), you can use 24x36 natively (or 16x24) for better detail and screen use, and if using a set designed with it in mind you can zoom out all the way to 8x12 to get a full overview presentation if you wish.

I don't think I know that much about drawing, but faces are important
Im looking at your drawing on a separate window, and the first thing I dislike is the guy's face
it's not that the expresion is bad, but it could be better implemented
work on the mouth and eyes. Nose is fairly good, leave it like that
hairline is a little difuse, left shoulder looks disconected from the body, and the guy should be more flexed if he wanted to hit someone in that position
I like the edges of the beard, but the moustache seems a little off, don't know why
legs kinda broad for a dwarf, or an elephant
nice detail on the belt, I've heard evictedsaints is still writing 'the little cheesemaker', go check it out
>that little bulge
Oh, and the other guy's hands are atrocious, but the right one isn't that much

Hope you draw a lot more here, all in all, I like your style, pretty solemn, and the small details could be easily bettered

Could you draw some scenary, so I can see how you manage views and details?
>>

>>
>>154568108
Crease the facial features more, you started to but it looks like you stopped out of worry about realism, wrinkled forehead and scars and such are cool, go with the bits you have all the way. The left arm is too stiff, it looks like the top of a deltoid, front of a bicep/brachialis view, but then you can see an elbow and arm hair suggesting that it is super dislocated.

Look at a picture of bodybuilders working out and compare it with them posing and you'll see what I mean there, tossing some more broadness on the joints to give big treetrunk looking arms would be fine for a dorf, the right wrist is too thin for the musculature too, Ahnold had a great physique in part because of his muscle to joint proportions, but he wasn't supposed to be a stout warrior, the right forearm would be fine if it was only three fingers, add room for another and it'll be good. You've got a sense of how the hair would be moving for the action which is nice, and you can do smaller details, look at some braids and toss that into the moustache maybe?

Not really an artist myself so I can't give technical tips on exactly HOW to do this beyond a bit of shadow increase to better indicate the main light source, but I do love me some drawfags and remember the frustration of musculature and bone structure well.

They fill pits with venomous bugs and lure novice adventurers into them.

I hope DF 'bolds can one day set up cruel and unusual pit traps for your guy, since right now it feels like NPCs hate them for almost no reason... they're just so harmless, they can't even fight back when you slaughter them in their cave.
I feel like giving them horrifying self-defence measures would stop the ambiguousness that makes people sympathise with them, and it'd support their acceptance of torture for fun.

>>
>>154606984
Crundles are like scaly chickens, and they aren't interested in fighting. There is no number of crundles you could accumulate to make them an interesting 4th party to this engagement.
>>
Had to kill of a fort that was getting boring on a peaceful embark. What should I do to challenge myself?
>>
The goblin siege broke before I could finish the arena. We have a few options.

>Wait for the next siege and have a big 3-way brawl

>use some goblins that ended up in cage traps in a smaller 3-way

>just do 1v1 BC vs Dragon

What would be most interesting?
>>
>>154609101
Build all of their cages in a cavern and wait for an intimidating FB to show up. If you're going to put the gobs down there as well make sure to put them close to the center, as they'll attempt to flee the map if they're ever released. Making sure they have fo get past 3 massive deathbeasts to succeed would be fun all by itself. If you can catch any other tough less-mega-beasts (think blind cave ogres/bears, jabberers, cave crocs, gcs, vcc) you could make it a real crazy brawl.
>>
>>154610112
There's a webspitting crocodile FB on the 2nd cavern layer, but I'm not sure I can safely get the BC and the dragon down there, let alone all the goblins. I'm worried he'll path straight to me while I set up the cages.
>>
>>154610357
Do it like this:

>dig a series of staircases to the cavern layer, but don't breach yet
>seal the stairs with hatchcovers
>dig a small hallway at the bottom of each stair leaving 1 tile of stone between the hall and cavern
>build raising bridges at the end of each hall
>build the cages in the hall
>dig last tile of each hall as close to simultaneously as possible
>lock the hatch covers as your miners return
>pull lever to open the cages
>wait for them to leave the halls
>pull lever to raise bridges
>take many screenshots
>>
>>154610898
>>154610357

Oh, also you can use the hatchcovers to lock the miners in the halls to coordinate the breaches

It appears that the wiki has almost nothing about adventurer-created sites. So I shall report here that being in a site does not protect from bogeymen unless you're under a roof. It does not have to be a defined room, nor does the site need to even have a name, nor do you have to have founded it with the current adventurer. However, you cannot retire at an adventurer-created site unless it has been claimed, though it doesn't have to have been claimed by you, or even anyone who is still alive. And contrary to what someone said on here maybe a week ago, it is possible to build a casket as a building and then put a corpse in it in adventure mode. It doesn't show up as "Urist Mcdead's tomb" or whatever but it at least looks right.

Also, shaking damage and amputated bodyparts don't seem to affect the risk of infection at all.

hey /dfg/, would you like the dwarves have some type of 'vitality' (healthyness system) affected by their style of life (sleep, diet, exercise and vices) that affects their ability to dwelve into the world (overall energy, bonus/nerfs to leveling up atributes/jobs)
I'm trying to find a way for dwarves to age up and grow old, to not have 150 year old granpas to be exactly the same as a 20 year old lad, and adding this vitality, and making it change through the years seems to me like a versatile way to do so
Also serves as a perfect placeholder for magic and the whole medicine/health system(think about age-related illnesses)
>>
>>154642116
Seems like it could be a possiblity somewhere down the line. It doesn't seem important enough to require its own focus arc but it definitely sounds like something that would be added as framework for later additions.

Could be interesting. Anything that adds more practical variety to dwarves is a welcome addition.

>reason:
Trying out a new way to play where I automate EVERYTHING.
Every single workshop has Workflow setup, dwarves handle their food/booze production, butchering, hauling and producing without me messing about.
This lets me dedicate myself to observing them like in an ant-terrarium as they go on daily lives, interact with each other, squads go on scheduled patrols, hunt etc.
Its been pretty smooth so far, I occasionally tab back in, design new sections of the fort to be built, recruit fresh meat into squads, and let them handle the rest.

It should. You might get some weirdness if there are troops holding the forbidden bolts. Dwarves earning wages, renting rooms, setting up shops and trading, minting coins for them they use in trade.

Close, but no cigar. This mode would play esentially like a one-person fort mode, pausing and unpausing, and featuring a lot of roles and semi-procedural events like:
>commanding tasks in different sciences and magic that take real time (mixing stuff in alcemy cauldron with several effects)
>receiving arrentices, enabling you lots of new abilities, mechanics and events(ie:testing subject, treason for power)
>Receiving peasants that ask you to heal them, dis-curse them or so(You bet they will have relationship levels with the tower and supply you with what you need
>kings patronicing you to accomplish certain tasks(if your tower is in a city, things like this are a lot more probable)
>Bettering and adding floors to your tower, using money payed from services or favors(some house decorations updates should make this better: paints, statues, better equipment, comfier beds, etc.)

It would be almost like a new game, only that it could be the most comfy shit, becase you could brew potions for a living, and then snuggle with your apprentice df in a giften bed, telling her that it's something ritualistic needed for a spell

The first form was fine: What new game mode would you like to exist in dwarf fortress?

It could be rephrased more succintly as: What new game mode would like to see added to dwarf fortress?

Adding it would only make sense with a subject to reference: Here is an idea for a new game mode, do you think something like //it// would be nice to see in dwarf fortress?

To answer the question I'd like to see a worldscale management function where you could go in and take part in trade agreements, warfare, civ level expansion, planning, and so forth.
>>
>>154666918
Would you like to see added*

Hit the wrong part of the window when scrolling back up while typing and didn't notice.
>>
>>154666321
Valid sentences:
>What kind of new game mode would you like?
>Would you like it to exist in Dwarf Fortress?
>What kind of new game mode would you like to exist in Dwarf Fortress?
("Exist" is valid but sounds weird the more you think about it; the "to" implies the prior noun, "you", is the one doing the existing)

Invalid sentence:
>What kind of new game mode would you like it to exist in Dwarf Fortress?

The "it" is extraneous; it refers back to "new game mode". "To exist" is, I believe, a direct object modifying the verb "like", and doesn't need another subject around to refer to.

Of course I haven't diagrammed a sentence in like 18 years, so I'm mostly going by what sounds right. Any English majors present may shit all over this post.

Well, I'm a bit rusty when it comes to sentence parsing, but I can give you the gist of it by way of example:

"What do you want?" CORRECT
"Do you want it?" CORRECT
"What do you want it?" INCORRECT

The third example is a mashup of two grammatically correct sentences that have very different contexts. In the first, the asker is requesting information of a more-or-less unspecific nature, as you were in your first post. There is no "it" because nothing specific is referenced. In the second, the question presumes both parties' knowledge of "it". In the third, however, presumes both knowledge of "it" by referencing it as the object of "want," and ignorance of "it" by making it the object of the interrogative.

I hope there's an english major, or better yet a linguistics major in the thread who can add some proper terminology to the explanation.

>>
>>154669865

>>
>>154669989
You'll need to find tissue_templates.txt or something like that, I'm away from home right now, so I can't check. It'll be the last file in the raws alphabetically on a vanilla install. In that file, find the entries for nail, cartilage, claw and talon. Anywhere in their text block add [HEALING_RATE: 1000]. I'm unsure whether it should have a space after the colon, or an underscore. Check other tissues to make sure.
1000 is the rate for bone, and the generally accepted fix. Make it lower if you want those tissues to heal faster.
Do this in the raws of your save. It should apply to your current world.

I've played adventure mode to death and I've realized just lifeless and static that mode is. Will the next update made megabeasts and bandits and wars and stuff more active and interesting?
>>
>>154671581
To a degree. To what degree remains to be seen. We know that NPCs will have new activities, new motivations to act, and new ways to influence the geopolitical landscape. A lot of it is likely to be superficial at first, as most things in adv mode are, while adding a lot of opportunities for emergent stories, as most features added to adv mode do. It will get deeper as development progresses, as everything in DF tends to do.

That is literally hundreds of zombies roaming the map after I disturbed a necromancer camp (before they make towers you can find them in camps) with 360 goblin zombies (and a few other species) by leading a squad of 20 something bandits+1 goblin zombro bandit over there.

Those zombies are just roaming around the map now and I've encountered them in a bandit-ambush position at a town a good 10 world map tiles away.

Not to mention there are things that happen now like hamlets and dark pits and whatnot being founded even after world-gen ends, oh and stuff like a Vault being embroiled in a territory dispute with a nearby hamlet, said vault being one that was inside a volcano for some reason: >>154494190

I learned that having zombies work for you while cutting trees isn't always smart, usually they just get beat up, sometimes you have to reraise one or two, and sometimes they turn hostile after getting bashed by logs/other zombies.

Then you turn into a werebeaver and all 40 of them around you try to attack and freeze the game, losing an hour or so of progress.

They don't get the unhappy thoughts from training at all anymore. It was a bug, and was fixed ~2 years ago. It was only ever supposed to apply to long patrols.
>>
>>154721897

To corroborate, from the wiki:

Warning: Dwarves who are permanently on-duty with no downtime have been observed to begin to starve themselves keeping to the rigorous schedule, and thus grow unhappy. Do you really want to find out how much damage that practice spear can do? To allow some of your dwarves to go sleeping when they need, and also eat and drink (even from carried rations!), you need to lower the minimum number of dwarves of the squad that need to follow the current order at any time in the order criteria as listed above. You want the criteria to be at least one or two dwarves less than the current number of dwarves in your squad. This will change the limit for the current month only, so use the copy/paste feature to update every month. It should be emphasized that dwarves who are stationed or on patrol will not eat or drink from their backpacks and flasks. Backpacks and flasks are more to shorten break times than to eat in the field. If there are no opportunities for breaks, carried rations will not be utilized.

Well, the towers you build should be really upgradable, getting enormous over the years, and expanding in all axis
Each floor would be a completely different zone, and I imagine that by the time something like this is added, we would have a lot off different zones to designate in it( laboratory, potion breweries, zoos(testing poisons on monkeys)), so space wouldn't be that much of a chore
>What about just having one person to interact with
Many of the events I talked let it clear that you wouldn't be completely alone
You would be visited periodically by peasants, apprentices, friendly wizars traveling asking to spend some days with a fellow professional, your king himself asking for advice, etc.
There's plenty of room for this to work

I'm not going to bother going through all the different military related pages to see which one says that, but it's wrong. Training dwarves stop with normal frequency to eat, drink and sleep. Dwarves on patrol or station duty eat from carried rations and drink from waterskins, and only let themselves get hungry or thirsty after they run out. They'll even leave their posts to sleep. Whoever wrote that was full of shit.

Mostly if it was slowed down some from combat as it is now, things are tuned around the 1.0 speed default, and the average strength values. When you get strong enough it is REALLY hard to avoid killing people to the point that if someone doesn't back down immediately I have to walk away or kill them in several situations unless I feel like just mangling limbs. If I do shit like try to shank someone with a bolt I can send someone flying rather than get it lodged in their gut and let go.

Yeah. Hell even other boards on 4chan can be pretty fuckin' circlejerky (example: any general on /a/).
Spend too long on this site and you get too accustomed to it, then you become really sensitive to the stuff you didn't realize you hated until you got here. People used to say all the time that the internet gives you anonymity, but at the end of the day most places you go have you sign up and take on a username, which neuters the whole "total anonymity" thing. It's a good thing moot didn't cave in and decided to keep it this way.

>>
>>154764715
Oh yeah, I believe torture will be added after we have some other new mechanics placed as placeholders
Mainly non-verbal and inner communication, but also a lot of psychological updates,
Definitively we should have a lot of interactions between entities that aren't based in combat, even they are similar to a combat variant( jokingly hit someone familiar). In fact, a non-lethal interaction menu should exist, explicitely made to deal with interpersonal relationships, and the communication menu could really combine with it
(being able to kiss your gf if you have enough love/respect/affection/whatever points with her. )
A relationship menu that tells you what you know about other people based on your observer skill should also come in handy.
Im picturing an elaborated method of torture based on that last aspect of the game, where you fake being the prisioner's companion in the jail, gaining his trust, and when he is on the verge of insanity and only your friendship helps him, you reveal yourself as the main torturer, beggining to skin his alive
>>
>>154766995
Ah but I wouldn't have known that had you not told me, and the average browser wouldn't have either. What's important is that anonymity is still the main benefit, whether it's perfect anonymity or there's still a way to find info if you know how and really want to or not.

it can easily be fixed, i mean, theoretically. dwarf fortress is extremely unoptimized. it doesn't scale with added cores, even though the game could conceptually scale extremely well like that. it has extremely unoptimized code resulting in a lot of cache misses, there's a lot of other stuff to optimize there as well just with proper coding practices. and there's so much room left to innovate, like using the gpu's faster vram to alleviate the fps loss from cache misses.

dwarf fortress in the current state is absolutely not a theoretical impossibility to optimize to a point that one would never encounter fps death with reasonable gameplay. as it is now, you're guaranteed to freeze to completely non-movement eventually, even if you don't expand much. pathing is a very overblown worry in this.

anyway, even a theoretical 1.0 dwarf fortress wouldn't surpass a "limit on hardware performance". dwarf fortress' limit is in its non-utilization of resources and always will be.
>>
>>154769865
To expand on that for folks who don't know:

cache miss: when your cpu goes to perform an operation on data it should have in the local cache on chip, speedy stuff, but with limited total size, forcing the data to be pulled from ram

page swap: when the cpu tries to pull something from ram into the cache but it isn't present, forcing a load from storage

The bump to 64 bit helps with the latter, which is why the performance gains are more noticeable at the tail end of the fps death, when the cpu is already dealing with cache misses but previously had to pull data out of storage, there is now a larger buffer where it is only pulling from ram.

Unfortunately df isn't optimized to avoid cache misses, use multiple cores, and such yet.
>>
>>154769865
No, it can't be fixed. No matter how well the game is optimized, you'll always be able to kill performance with larger embarks and larger pops. I you self-impose enough limits on both, the game has been running fine for years.

Of course there is a ton of room for optimization, no one is disagreeing with that. However, multithreading the game logic of DF is never going to happen.

The freedom to design it exactly the way you want. Not to mention it would be safer, since you're worried about swimming threats.

Appart from this being pretty terrific once I wrote it, this part about betrayal and trust made me realize one of the future core mechanics for dwarve's autonomy on taking decisions that will probably take place in the future

The higher an idea is important to a person, the more inclined this person is to act upon that idea
This is an universal truth in stories, real or fantastical, that the hero takes a journey because an ideal, an objective or person, is too important for the hero to be ignored
This is, a person wanting to achieve his dreams, or rescue a person important to him, do so because he is too emotionally invested in that idea, be it because he has a personality oriented to his dreams, or because he has achieved a deep relationship towards that

If we ever implement a good psychologycal/relationship system, it should be based on the fact that people get atached to people or things, or ideas, in different and complex ways, and that they act uppon that

I don't know, it's kind of an epiphany I had

History massively influences my prospective of what things look like in Dwarf Fortress. Mostly in common things though. Like if the description lists leather/cloth armor, I think of the aketon (second soldier on the left) which is what most men in the high middle ages would wear into conflicts.
Here I have just thrown together a picture of what soldiers really wore in 1100-1250 and what I draw beasts and goblins wearing.
But on regards to changing DF, All I would really want is more materials to build with, mostly plaster. Also less leather clothes, it feels like a biker gang is hanging around all the time.

So I found a vault that was inside a volcano: >>154494190

Then I dropped an underworld spire into hell: >>154718231

Usually you can't do anything but deconstruct shit like this, but if a site is small enough you can position yourself under it in hell (or on the lava flows) in a way that lets you deconstruct it AND put the rest of the camp in an accessible spot, this includes things like vaults, necro towers, probably world-gen forts actually, shrines, camps, those sorts can all be deconstructed from the bottom of the map and then you can move over to the side of your camp and start working IN them.

This was a vault, it is now mine.

I feel obliged to post this.

More seriously, the biggest project to making fortress look nice is smoothing stone and cleaning up the giant boulders laying around everywhere.
Otherwise, I'd tell you to not be so afraid of having stockpiles and workshops in the same room or directly connected. Or even better, vertically stacked for maximum efficiency.
I also expect to see defenses built along your front entrance. What are you, a human?
>>
>>154796101

no. it's exclusive to adventurers. otherwise, the elves in the forest retreats, as well as the dwarves in the hillocks which are bugged to count as outside, would be fucked.

hey, is the guy around who once claimed that having a military is always pointless, that a military response is always inferior to other ways of dealing with a problem, like a cave-in or something? cause that's total bullshit, you definitely need a military. how else would you conquer hell adequately? i mean, after the initial clown car. it's not feasible to set up weird contraptions ahead of time for every enemy encounter, and a military has an extreme flexibility and killing power for a minimal investment. and dwarves love being kept busy in the military! it's a necessity for all forts except very specialized ones!
>>
>>154832878
Sounds like you've fallen victim to an obvious ruse.

I hope the guy who did it is still around; he must be proud.

I used to be mad the dwarves didn't get their own versions of domestic animals, like bighorn sheep and giant moles, but a dog saved my legendary mayor from an ettin, distracting it while my soldiers arrived and killed it. Dogs are bros whether its in real life or just a game.

A werebeaver arrived, Ran at the speed of light and killed two cats then turned into a human and ran off.

Should I be concerned? Was I lucky? I only had a few traps and I'm pretty new to this.

I'm not implying DF simulates relativistic effects, but I'm still p. sure it has no werecreatures running around at speed of light. Anyways, you were lucky,

How the fuck do I get these freeloaders out of my tavern?

There's seriously like 200+ dwarves, elves, and human poets fucking around in my tavern and they wont leave even when I removed the location. they aren't even citizens, I denied all citizenship requests.

Go to location management and set it to civilians and long term residents only

They'll gradually shuffle out over a couple of month.

...can demons even OPEN doors? i know they can break them down, or maybe even melt them, but i've got a raw adamantine artifact door that they don't even walk through when it's passable instead of forbidden. i'm starting to feel they don't actually know how to open doors.
>>

>>

I was just wishing them good, what are you talking about?
>>
>>154847195
They can, but building destroyers don't know that they can't destroy artifacts, so they try forever even if they could just walk through. It's an essential element of one of the cheesiest methods of defeating hell's first wave.

I like to design my forts with future adventurers in mind. It's fun to explore them from adventurer perspective and loot all the artifacts your dorfs crafted. Plus, it's the comfiest way to access to all cavern layers and hell.

I don't know, it's just so cool to freely travel around the immediate surroundings of your fort, after being locked in those embark squares for a long time.

My visitors didnt. They stayed around for two years as "Guest/No Activity" even with tavern switched off, until i used them all as training dummies for military.

Many large creatures, dwarves included, have a grass trample value that causes them to gradually kill grass, saplings and other plants that they walk over.

I didn't realise that unskilled farmers wasted seeds, and so ive been assigning people with nothing to do farming as busywork.

Now I have no plump helmet seeds left. My dwarf liason has gone (it just says "No liason this year? Strange..." every year), so I can't specifically order them in, and I haven't seen any seeds in any caravans yet.

How can I get more plump helmet seeds?
>>
Can I help someone who is unconscious in adventure mode?
>>
>>154858038
>No liaison this year? Strange...

Did you start immediately with a king/queen?

Because if so your mother fortress is dead and you'll never get a liaison.

If you didn't that means he died during the journey, in which case you'll most likely get another one next year.

Regardless just wait for your dwarves to eat your current plump helmets and they'll give you more seeds.

They grow on cavern floors just like normal plants grow on the surface and you can harvest them just the same.

I like it because in a couple years, If my suggestion on the forums related to relationships works out, I'll be able to go to a human civ and start ranting racist insults to their children, making them cry out of shame
>>
Why do my Dwarves refuse to use the Gauntlets and High boots I made for them? they're all wearing the helm, greaves, and breastplates, but the rest are all just sitting in the bin.

It should work like stating opinions.

>Urist: You must be convinced! All elves are primitive savages!
>Cacame: That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard!
>Urist: I insist! All elves are primitive savages!
>Cacame: Yes, I agree. How foolish I have been.
>Cacame: I just learned about the worthlessness of elves. I am not upset by this.
>>
>>154858038
Unskilled farmers don't waste seeds. Planting a farm plot tile takes exactly 1 seed, never a single seed more or less, irrespective of the planter's skill. The skill of the planter only influences how large the harvested plant stack will be, and you will never get fewer plants than seeds planted even if every planter had no skill at all. You're probably just cooking your plump helmets.

Nah men, you are looking at it all wrong
Look up some psychology book on insulting
When you tell some mofo 'Your mother is a whore' , you don't intent to actually convince him of it, you are trying to show him that you don't consider him worthy of enough respect to not atack your mother
The perfect system I envision would allow for situations like the very same conversations we have in 4chan to ocur
>Statement
>Sarcastic answer to statement
>Indication that the first poster's mother is a whore
>Overall rage
>Provoking shitposting
etc.
In my perfet world, dwarves will be able to telepathically comunicate from all around the world to shitpost anonymously
