I don't think Hardin is very good PR and shouldn't have been saying PR, but the hate for him is overblown considering how little impact he actually has on anything. He has no involvement in the delay or localization.

Looking at it objectively, it's easy to see the delay coming. Atlus USA was farmed out to several games this summer, including text-heavy ones like Yakuza 0. Alongside having no time to work on P5, the UI of the game itself was clearly designed for Japanese and Japanese alone (yes, some of it is already in English, but most isn't). I wouldn't envy anybody trying to fit text into those small irregular text boxes that pop up all over the place, crossword puzzles, and so on. It's not enough to cause a significant delay, but even in an absolute perfect scenario it'd probably be a major reason we wouldn't get a simultaneous launch and instead in October or November.

And finally, Atlus Japan really just does not care. Hashino acknowledged the western audience in an interview with Game Informer and there's been nothing since. E3 is the most obvious and damning aspect of this: 15 minutes of new footage, the door's been blown open for Persona 5 advertising to start, and they opt to show it at a closed event with no cameras allowed. All so that they can rebroadcast it later for the Japanese audience with people talking over it, in the early morning for westerners. They passed up an opportunity for press exposure in the west for no good reason, the same reason why they keep going after Youtube videos. The west is half of Persona's sales yet they see it as some tumor they keep wanting to excise. It would not surprise me if Atlus Japan shut down any talks of licensing out the Japanese audio for western releases since they wanted to spend the absolute minimum on them, even if Atlus USA went full kike and charged for it (and they would). P5's delay was just bad timing for us, if it was still 2015 I think we would have had it in a few months.

Designing the UI for Japanese alone is retarded when you know you have to do Western localization I can't understand this method of production if you know your app is going to have to support multiple languages it makes sense to factor that when creating it. Unlike the case with P3 where the decision to bring the game to the West happened after the jp release they said they were doing a Western release as early as Feb 2014 yet clearly did nothing to prepare for it until the jp version was about to clear certification over 2 years later. If it's just like P3/P4 then weapons will matter for standard, physical attacks and for all out attacks, while all other equipment bolsters defensive capabilities and accessories will have a variety of other effects. I can't think of a single turn based jrpg that handled difficulty settings well. Hard almost always feels like the numbers were altered by a fixed percentage and the entire thing wasn't even tested. This leads to either grinding or putting too much emphasis on cheesing. Neither is fun.
