If it doesn't have a general, post it here; just don't get upset about sharing. If it DOES have a general, please go. We don't need your baggage.
Above is a pastebin of games you can play while waiting for SC and E:D to become playable. Don't fucking reply to obvious bait.

>guys, great idea. what if we fucking waste the top 20% of screen real estate putting the game's logo in the top right corner, with a little ™ beside it in case people forget what game they're playing. Then, we can squeeze the actual menu options into roughly 55% of the screen area, making it way to small to read, and then add a little fucking magnifying glass to the cursor so they have to skim each part of the control mappings bit by bit, never getting a full idea of them all at once?
Interesting, but the logo will only take up one corner. what should we fill the rest of that top bar with.
>well here's the best part Chris, what we put in that top bar: fucking nothing!

It just looked less clunky. You walk over to a context sensitive object like a briefcase and you get a little box with a list of commands, pick up briefcase, put item in briefcase etc. It looked clean.

This is like a crooked jumbled mess. I feel like they need to make it look better. It's a bit sloppy and doesn't even really fit the look of the game.

I have to admit, I've been stopping myself from getting any ships too big, just so I have some goals when the game launches, but the Caterpillar is just such a cool ship that I want to break my rule so I can have one with LTI.

it's a "hauler". it's role is to be involved in shady business, little bit of combat, little bit of smuggling, little bit of everything. it's also one of the first really modular ships that was designed, and unlike say the craptaliator, it's makeup should mean it's easy enough for CIG to actually implement module swapping for it at some point.

>>154231205
Mining is mining. You gather a resource, and get paid for it. The entertainment comes from setting up that position and how involved the mechanics are, as well as dangerous transit.

But if you don't like that, then you don't like the game.

Its not a "timesink", its gameplay. If thats not your thing, don't play video games.

>Its not a "timesink", its gameplay.
Minigames are gameplay and time sinks at the same time. The point is to work towards a goal either way. The goal is a new ship or gun or whatever, and so you don't get bored the game put walls in your way so you'll play the game for longer.

>If mining is a minigame, then everything is a minigame.

Then you fly your mining ship there, capture asteroid with gravity beam, locate the best place to crack it with scanning, crack that shit with a laser, get the ore or whatever the fuck you were after.
>>
>>154233491

Not all pvp. Just pvp versus relatively defenseless mining operations. You ever play EVE?

>>154233685
>Killing someone to profit off of their cargo is piracy. If you actually gain something other than sadistic pleasure then it isn't griefing.

In games where you don't lose anything on death besides what you mined, yes.

Is there really no penalty for losing your ship in this game? No insurance fee even?
>>
>>154233685
>If you actually gain something other than sadistic pleasure ten it isn't griefing

In a game like ED/SC, griefing is highly specific and situational. Just killing someone should never be considered griefing. But something like destroying someone's ship immediately as it spawns on a platform should be considered griefing.
>>

Yeah, you did the same thing in Earth and Beyond. There's nothing new about this.

If those mining operations are "defenseless", and would yield a profit to pirates, its not griefing in any way. Its miners being fucking morons and taking a risk at not protecting their assets.

A fee and perhaps a timer on how long it takes for a ship to get to you (if you don't have a ludicrously common ship like the Aurora or Avenger) is planned. But how about games like Demons and Dark Souls, where you roll up to an unsuspecting guy and slaughter him? He's got to do the work to get back there, maybe he didn't have any humanity left? When it's such an integral part of how the game is supposed to be played can it really be called greifing?

In any case, not having at least some defenses around you as a miner, as >>154234230 states, is not only stupid but insanely risky, especially considering how the UEE and Advocacy are overstretched and undermanned in their own systems. If you can't defend yourself in this situation you have no one to blame but yourself when you die.
>>
>>154234112
Constantly killing someone who is just trying to mine in peace is fun pvp?

>If those mining operations are "defenseless", and would yield a profit to pirates, its not griefing in any way. Its miners being fucking morons and taking a risk at not protecting their assets.

How many ships does a mining operation need in total to be defended from a single attack vessel? Are the mining and cargo ships a match for one attack ship? If the guy still has a better ship, does he then have a right to halt your progress in the game?

>So you don't even have the most basic fucking knowledge of how this game operates, yet you're in here shitposting. Find a better use of your time, cunt.

SO far most space games have basic tenet of shooting a "mining laser" into asteroid and watch your hull get filled with ore. Rarely it goes beyond that, let's be honest.
>>
>>154234503
>A fee and perhaps a timer on how long it takes for a ship to get to you (if you don't have a ludicrously common ship like the Aurora or Avenger) is planned.

Oh wow, so less risk than EVE? That's surprising, i figured you'd have to pay to replace everything at least.

>But how about games like Demons and Dark Souls, where you roll up to an unsuspecting guy and slaughter him? He's got to do the work to get back there, maybe he didn't have any humanity left? When it's such an integral part of how the game is supposed to be played can it really be called greifing?

I was assuming you could lose your ship or a significant amount of money. If the game has no real death penalty, then it doesn't matter at all. All you lose is the time you spent mining something.

>In any case, not having at least some defenses around you as a miner, as >>154234230 states, is not only stupid but insanely risky, especially considering how the UEE and Advocacy are overstretched and undermanned in their own systems. Like I said, in games like this it's highly situational. If I'm running a blockade of some place and I kill you every time you try to get in, is that considered griefing? I'm gaining nothing but a blockade for example. The best example Frontier have given is stream sniping over and over again.

But with SC, a situation in which a player just sits at a landing pad all day destroying people's ships as they spawn, that's a bit more obvious.

As >>154234889 said, you get the stock ship back, with stock weapons unless you pay out a more hearty insurance premium for cargo and equipment, but you still lose any modifications you make to it. There's not a lot more said on insurance, as right now it's only a timer to replenish your ship. You could also eventually lose reputation with different in-game factions, once they exist, if you die enough. The amount of reputation lost has not been expanded upon in follow up materials, and won't be until the base system is fully in place.

The goal isn't to kill the pirate, necessarily, but to give the miner time enough to escape if the situation warrants it. Still, it shouldn't take more than two fighters to properly deal with a pirate, especially just one. And you don't stick around when the pirates come in with more than two vessels unless you've got serious backup or some kind of death wish.

It's a matter of not being dense about it and paying attention more than anything else.

Piracy in ED is fucking tricky tho

first you have to scout systems and find place that generates high value ships reliably

then you have to interdict those ships and make them jump to a neighboring system. Repeat until lawless because even in low sec the cops will show up before you're done gutting your target

then you have to disable the target without blowing it up, and since all hauling ships are made out of fucking paper that's no easy task.

then you get the drones out and you break the target's cargo hatch, scoop what comes out, scan for cargo to get an idea how fast you're going, break the hatch again, scoop... ofc scooping can be replaced with limpets too

Under thrust it's basically a 3.3 km high building. So it depends how fast it accelerates and how strong your materials are. But the fact it exists in SC means they can build it, so like you said it's silly to worry about it.

Well, space is much different from sea. No waves, for the most part no gravity pulling it down and air friction. And the construction of ships in space and sea are vastly different. Space-borne vessels aren't made from the same materials, structures and technologies. Plus, most of the causes of shearing is from the motions and forces involved regarding seaborne travel, which wouldn't apply to spaceflight, would it?

Pic related.

Cargo ships are designed to flex a bit otherwise they would crack really quickly. Of course there is a limit to how much flex is allowable.

>>
>>154240603
Much heavier rounds at much higher velocities?

Fun fact unrelated to the argument: When a 3km ship fired its rear thrusters, the other side of the ship wouldn't start moving until half a second later (assuming the speed of sound in the construction material is similar to steel).
>>
>>154240603
Firing a gun like that would have significant effects on the firing ship. Something you don't see in-game.
For instance the A-10's main gun (30mm) effectively cancels out one of its engines when firing.

Would a ship made of unobtanium (or whatever) be indestructible? No, because there would also be unobtanium projectiles that could damage it.

you are forgetting the drive will be made from the same denser material firing off denser thrust hence compensating :^)

I guess I can't expect you to know a lot about tanks, but being heavy has nothing to do with this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR9vqJZkmJY

See the barrel moving backwards right after firing the gun? That's how it absorbs the recoil.

Don't believe me? Mount a Tarantula GT-870 on any ship and then fire it while in 3rd person, you will see the barrel rocking back and forth absorbing the recoil of each shot.

it doesn't "absorb" shit. All the energy still ends up acting directly on the object, just in a slower and more controlled manner.

Did anyone else see this on RSI? Pretty sure it's WIP and unfinished, as to why it vanished. I was browsing and just caught it, so linked it to my friend and the link didn't work for him so I opened it in a tab and it wasn't working for me either. Luckly I had the original still up so grabbed some photos. The odd thing is I've got RSS feed posts set to alert me on my phone and this didn't trigger it.

SC is very impressive in promised scope and scale, and is being developed quite nicely. It is bar none the space sim I have the most hope for now. But I still wouldn't buy it since it isn't done. Find something less expensive and finished like the X3 series. Enjoy them until everything turns out okay with SC, and then once its finished buy that shit nigga.

but I want more rockets in the game

Theyre actually kind of a misnomer since what he's referring to are actually called recoil-less RIFLES, but the point is the same in that the thrust would go out the back of the gun instead of the front.

Funny enough, there still is recoil, often in very noticeable amounts. But the point hes trying to make is understandable in that he's trying to minimize the thrust lost.

However, the thrust generated by the guns is not exactly known, nor is the potential power behind the engines. Do the engines produce more than enough thrust to counteract the force of a propellant-based gun firing? Who knows?

Its not real life.

Its perpetual grind. Slow....very fucking slow driving for the sake of "immrshun".

It has arcadey infinite pirates! The missions are take this item to some station thats several thousand light seconds from the nav point that you dont drop into when you load a new system. Some anon timed the jumps between systems...44 seconds average.

The trading is flat. A station 10ls from nav buys items for the same price as a station 350k ls from nav.

Annoying bugs like interdictions wigging out or winning and then you lose and have to fight the dude.

Engineers being a straight upgrade instead of sidegrade. Grinding required oh and you mostly have to use the ship you want to upgrade making it painful on viper, fdl, dropship variant users. But hey fuck you milenial.

The forum old dads tha actively ruin the game. They complain about griefers and gold farmers but play in solo.....so no one knows how they can gold farm or get griefed

Wierd things that make zero sense. If tou want to mine you goto a res. Resource extraction site. They come in many flavors but the only worthwhile ones are pristine. Doesnt matter if its low, high or haz res. That only affects infinite pirate spawns.

You make zero impact in the universe. You cant join a player guild but you can join an npc guild and work 3 or 4 times as hard for less pay than anything else! (Powerplay). Which ultimately doesnt matter.

Its touted as a multiplayer game but the game frequently drops me if i play open.
If i had friends or guildmates i would try to wing up with them but we might as well be solo since bounties are split and the instancing doesnt take number of players into account. Not much does.

If the devs dont like what the players do in a cg....they revert it to the state they want.

Theres more oh and here comes the korean grindfest apologists......3...2...1

Those actually arent rockets in what he thinks are recoilless rockets. He was thinking about something like the Carl Gustaf, which while in the form factor of a sterotypical rocket launcher is a recoilless rifle. And these actually fire artillery shells. Not rockets. Thats how they are different from regular rocket launchers like the RPG series. And so yes, the recoil would actually still be in effect. Rockets attached in a pod wont have nearly as much recoil.

To offer the perspective of a psychologist and anecdotal evidence:

Some people brains are chemically and structurally different to that of the majority of people. These people have a harder time to learn empathy and socially advantageous behavior. Some are fully unable to understand it, we frame them as psychopaths. Important to learn here is the difference from learning and understanding empathy.

Now to my anecdote. I have been playing a certain game with friends and a great community for years. There were always some troublemakers and some of them even streamed, had social media and were active on youtube. They would offer more information than it is good for them, but people are naive. So when the community went downhill I left and so did most of my friends. A couple of years later, the servers were continued to run by a third party, the troublemaker is still playing and cheating and using every tool there is to beat and harass the losers. I saw that on his social media he was connected and friends with Ku- Klux- Clan members, and Neo- party. It is incredibly difficult for guys like him to learn the meaning of love. Hate is their general tendency. It is in human nature and for some reason, which I would like to learn about, it was advantageous for our race.

Aside from the fact that there's no real physics in the game, unless engine is nuclear or whatever magic explanation (and not just combusting fuel), it's irrelevant where and how you burn it. And even then huge nuclear reactors are huge only to shield crew from radiation, but rockets don't have crew. Basically it's just a tin can with nuclear fuel inside that is very hot, and couple tons of water or concrete around it.
Other than that mass is irrelevant (p=mv, higher mass with lower speed translates same impulse), in fact you don't have to carry giant thick cannon chamber with heavy springs, only thin titanium rack.
>>154245273
It is noticeable, but nowhere even near the total recoil of regular cannon. Regarding rifling - it's only relevant for shooting in atmoshpere, because in atmoshpere projectile is affected continuously along the way.
But there will be magical explanation for everything, I'm sure.

It was spotted landing at a station in 2.2 promo at gamescom while they were showing off the beluga but then someone asked and it's not going to be included in 2.2. I'm more interested in it than the beluga, mostly for the concept of a non-combat non-utility luxury space vehicle. Imp eagle and courier are military, imp clipper is a big yacht and technically military.

Would love if it was a shiny expensive, more lightly armed and less internal space but faster and better jump range cobra3.
>>
>>154251529
Yeah I saw that and thought it might be in 2.2 until they said no.

It would have been a good addition. I don't think there are any cheap passenger ships. Just Orca and Beluga which are fairly pricy.

Clipper I always thought of as being kind of like the Corellian Corvette or Amidala's ship in Ep1. An armed diplomatic transport. Of course you can use it for anything in the game.

For Star Citizen, you're looking likely to be dealing with a Starfarer and Crucible for logistics work and you'll want plenty of long range craft like the Vanguard and Terrapin. Some craft have a lot of issues getting around above Crusader, let alone moving through an entire system with enough fuel left to jump. The Starfarer is pretty necessary for long-range bounty hunting. The bigger ships tend to make you a medium-sized organization, though.

I'd almost say the Cutlass is the best fighter for a small bounty hunting organization, backed up by Avengers as cover. Replace the missile pods with fuel tanks and you have a heavily armed civilian fighter with space for prisoners. If you manage to get your hands on a Terrapin or Vanguard as well, that'll add to your capabilities significantly, as the Vanguard is very long range and the Terrapin has that AWACS capability. So a Cutlass for transportation, long-range rigged fighters (Avenger might do for the former one, too, again with missiles replaced with fuel tanks) for offensive engagements, and an AWACS ship for finding and keeping tabs on your target. Those are mandatory for what we know of bounty hunting. That could change, and this is thinking optimally and without price as an object, but it's interesting to consider in any case.

So all those turrets would be able to hit is a narrow band in between the inner engines and the outer engines. Not even ships right on their tail, because the inner engines block the shot.

My org is 6 people with a focus on sec like escorting and such.

I figure three vanguards would be a good place to start, possibly 1 sent and 2 harbs so we have range and endurance along with ewar cover.

Obviously utility craft start to get important but I'd love to see how they get used by the big orgs as I imagine warzones in this will be a bit more spread out in this then the capital ship battles you see in EVE.

A fixed FOV tail turret will be far more useful and have way larger angles of fire than those horrendously placed ball turrets would. You'd have a wide cone of fire encompassing most of the ass of the ship, meanwhile these current turrets can't do that even with all three of their angles combined, because most of the time the ship itself is in the way.

I keep forgetting the Hornet Tracker exists. That's a good substitute for the Terrapin, as it's significantly more modular. If you added the Cutlass in there it's for your bounty transportation needs, mostly, though the Blue has the armor, shields, and power plant to make it a tough opponent.

>>154254038
As the other guy said: the Tracker is a solid AWACS vessel. The Vanguard Sentinel is EWAR, but since we don't really know what it's capable of, it could make a very bad scout compared to competitors. The Vanguard is solid as an escort ship, but it has no cargo room for prisoners and so is fairly limited for bounty hunting. You probably won't get a better escort ship than the Vanguard, though.

>>154253828
CIG should take a note from the WW2 bomber design in placing turrets. From almost every approach on a B-29 you have at least two and in most cases three turrets pointed at you, whether you're attacking from behind, below, above, the side or from the front. Each turret has almost a full hemisphere of angles it can fire it leaving almost no blindspots. All of this was done with only five turrets total.

A few autoturrets would be nice. Just something to make attack runs more interesting for bombers. You can't make an attack run without some flak or tracers or something coming back your way.

And then the pilot or gunnery control can use a control panel to set the guns modes and remaining ammo.

Just thought of a way to make npc crew for ed useful. Scripting. NPC could be assigned different tasks, like scripting an npc to automatically scan every contact in range, highlight the ones that are wanted, or check if the ship is overheating, if it is check if the fuelscoop is open, if so shut down power to fuel scoop. Give it a nice user interface and call it giving npcs "standing orders". Limit scripts to 20 logic objects, able to pull up or do anything the player can do.

We both know that this is just wishful thinking, and it's nice to be excited and hyped for the future of the game. But you don't honestly believe the game will come anywhere close to anything you described. No matter how much shit or useless fluff Frontier can tack on to the game, in 4 years you'll still be grinding Sothis so you can afford whatever stupid "end-game" ship Frontier releases, and then you'll spend the rest of the time grinding the engie upgrades for it. You'll do it alone because all multicrew will be is your friend manning a turret on your ship, and that's if the instancing gods bless you and you are both able to have a steady connection.

I don't know how anyone can be excited for anything in Elite after all we've seen Frontier shit out. I'm not trying to sound jaded, the game is still pretty fun, but what we see right now is more or less just it.

Ah. Was going to say if you're using it for a trader and aren't fighting the pirates that interdict you, consider mines. Just start boosting while laying mines, the NPC pirate will plow right into them. But if you're doing bounty hunting then you'll need forward guns.

I'd use pulse for the size 3s and seeker missiles for the size 2s, fire the missiles once the shields are down. Otherwise python is a solid but slow ship compared to the other multi-roles. Though nothing beats it's carrying capacity in the medium landing pads.
>>
>>154269320

I used missiles on my Sothis Asp. Got interdicted by an NPC, lasered their shields down and then gave them volleys of 4 seekers. After 2 volleys I lost them from sensors because so many of their modules had gone offline they were generating no heat.

It worked well, and since I'm not grinding combat the low ammo is not a big problem. Plus it looks cool in outfitting when 4 launchers pop out the bottom of the Asp.

I'm actually a little impressed with how they balanced seeker missiles. Gave them a niche and balanced them on more than just ammo or pure damage.

The 2.1 did buff missiles, trops and mines a lot. I haven't used torpedoes but have had them used on me by NPCs, they don't seem to be affected by chaff, ecm or point defense and they hurt a lot if they hit when shields are down. To the point that I just boost away the drawback to torpedoes seems like they're slow.

A destroyer? Cover it in flak or multiguns, missile launchers and a few large plasma turreted plasma cannons for shooting other capships. Killing one would be a 1 million+ bounty.

1. There is too big a gap between the largest ship in the game and the vast majority of ships, doesn't make sense.
2. Adding smaller cap ships would mean they could be seen more often, every Farragut is named there's only a few dozen of them in the game. Some frigate that's about twice the length of a corvette is a lot less "unique" and could be killed by the players without some huge effect on the game world. (getting a dev to think up a new battlecruiser name)
3. They'd be geared more towards fighting fighters and protecting battlecruisers so they would be a greater threat.

>>154276047

the "jump points" do nothing other than play an animation, less interesting than supercruise, the "mission" is just a scripted encounter where you flick a switch and has no gameplay value, the only player interaction possible right now is chatting which irc clients could do in 1984, and griefing

there are no procedural missions which would be required to fill out the universe, you can't make money doing them, fly back to base and upgrade your ship so you can do a harder mission, there is no meaningful coop like wings, not even that

it's literally fucking nothing, an empty shell where you flick switches for no reason, fly to empty locations with nothing in them, steal peoples shit because you're extremely bored and then fall through the fucking floor

Meanwhile in E:D everything is loading screens and facades.

But what makes Elite so compelling isn’t so much about the game as the experience. It’s the tinkering with and the taking out of a performance car for a Sunday drive, not to rack up more miles, nor to break any speed limits, but to just feel the growl of the engine and the wind comb through what’s left of your hair. To remember those carefree days arched over a BBC Micro or blinking angrily into a Lenslok and to forget for a short while that you have to make 357 people redundant in the morning. Elite is a hermetically-sealed escape capsule and it’s the best there is. Hell, you could fire the game up and just sit there on a launch pad and the sounds are enough to carry you away, so strong is your ship’s presence and so absorbing are the station surroundings.

Taking off, tearing through the station entrance a little too fast and just missing a Python, angling for the next jump, scooping fuel from a blazing sun, spinning the camera around your ship to catch its best profile, starting a fight just for the hell of it, seeing smok rise from the command console, hearing the screen crack and precious oxygen escaping into space and landing back at base with seconds to spare – these are the moments that make Elite essential. Trading, missions, mining – not so much. But it’s ok, we’re not going anywhere.

and? you don't """need""" supercruise in ED either. it means nothing, the only reason you can see other people flying around in quantum travel right now is because they haven't even begun working on the instancing system that is fully functional in ED so everyone is on the same server

it's just more evidence for how little of a game there actually is, just more unfinished things

Impressive backpedalling.
>>
>>154277193
No, the bad part is it's not a loading screen, that's why it's so jarring.
It's especially bad if you fly to a planet and it hangs there for 5 seconds before you drop into glide mode.

But this is where the irony stems from. Elite is a game that doesn't use loading screens outside the system to system jump, when it should use them everywhere to disguise the actual loading.

SC on the other hand has no use for similar loading screens because it just doesn't need them.

You can do those in ED, though you can only see other supercruisers, not people in real space. Supercruise is still a loading screen though cause it then has to connect you back when you drop out (yay p2p).

I can kill these Capitals in less than ten minutes, nice 150k Bond.

I'm already in the top 10% for this Community Goal. Payout is looking really nice and it's not even at Tier 8 yet. (Tier 4 currently)

I only deem HAZRES a good option to fly Wings with, as Condas give 220,000+cr in bounties and it makes the split worth it.

Otherwise, Bonds are decent "training" for the HAZRES.

I actually don't get it, how did ED and SC end up in the same general in the first place? It'd be like sticking Dota and League in the same general, or War Thunder and World of Tanks. Half the general is at each others throats over the tiniest spark.
>>
>>154277413
You can't see other supercruisers, just their position. Even if you get really close, you'll never actually load their model. Or be able to encounter them without loading into real space together.

In SC you never leave real space, so you can see things like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrEllc11oj0

Ignore the stream cancer
>>
>>154277574
It's just shitposting.

>>
>>154277461
If it was a loading screen it would use a zoom in exit animation similar to the exit from witchspace but slower to actually disguise shit. It wouldn't just hang there for seconds at a time.

Seeing loading != having a loading screen. In fact seeing loading is indicative of lacking a loading screen. Witchspace = loading screen, dropping from supercruise != loading screen.
