Flowey shows us that having determination isn't enough. Amalgamates are made of determination, but they're so full of determination that they're unable to die and harness its power. Additionally, both Flowey and Frisk show us you can't go back past your first save point. Their limit is the first moment they became determined.

I heard a rumor that in the game code there's "save" files numbered to 0~9. Supposedly, file 0 is the player, file 1~7 are Chara and the six other humans, file 8 is Flowey, and file 9 is Frisk. It should be noted that file0, file8, and file9 are actual notepad files used to record your data. file0 is used for your last save point, and file9 is autosave so that when you die you continue from a nearby room. Also, multiple files are saved and loaded in the Omega Flowey fight, so the idea that each soul has its own save file in canon isn't too farfetched.
