The Consort-King Orion weakens and rages against his fate, destined to be immolated on the pyre in the coming months. The forest undergoes a change of color from the vibrant hues of summer to more subdued and mottled shades of Autumn.

But if it is a time of waning, so too is it a time of harvest. The bounty of the forest hangs ripely, to be plucked effortlesly by the merry wanderers of its vales and meadows. How fitting, then, that in this, the first month of the season of harvest, the Wood Elves will make a bounteous gift of themselves, the latest and greatest of the factions to be released in Total War: Warhammer.

Something could have happened if WHFB hadn't been put on the sidelines and then axed. Back in the golden days of WHFB in the 1990s, it was possible to find Nippon and Araby models and rules. But those factions were just a bunch of stereotypes and weren't afforded the love that the Chaos Dwarfs and Ogre Kingdoms got. They were out of place and underdeveloped.

The majority of fantasy worlds which don't suck are usually based in some kind of not-Europe

Warhammer in particular is this way because the Old Ones in the 1980s were supposed to be the same as the Old Ones from Warhammer and originally Sigmar was supposed to be one of the two lost primarchs in Warhammer 40k, with Sigmar's disappearance being because he was taken by the Emperor back to Earth to lead a legion

The lore reason the Warhammer world was not-Earth was because the Old Ones were supposed to have gone around a million years ago re-ordering the universe and seeding it when their chosen pet races like Elder (elves) and humans, with the dwarves being an abhuman race called the Squats

Originally there was the Reman empire in Tilea which conquered all of the old world and the Empire and had legions, but this was retconned out around the time that GW decided to stop having the Warhammer fantasy world as a low-tech world undiscovered by the Imperium to being a world in its own universe

There's not many of them. Go to your LGS and ask or just see whos playing. In the last few months I've seen it played once. In that same time I've seen a few games from the regular "Warhammer dads" who play WHFB every other week.

One of the shops I go to stopped carrying Age of Sigmar merch because he sold none of them and the others sell starter kits to some of the regulars but they try it at home and never play it at the store. Or ended up just not liking it.

The game was a mistake in both it's roll out and how it's structured. Games Workshop's tounge in cheek rule set managed to be some how more idiotic and convoluted than 40K or WHFB just by virtue of it's lack of any real substance.

That said, if GW can unfuck themselves it has some potential. But this GW and they hate the idea of being anything other than a greedy model peddler with mediocre aspirations.

I'm a huge fan (Or rather I used to be a huge fan) of the Total War franchise, but one of the biggest gripes I've been having with the newer games is how whitewashed and streamlined everything's become. This really starts to show up after Shogun 2, and is a big reason why I'm not planning on bothering with future games . This is especially bad in Rome 2. Egyptians are Arabian looking even though Egyptians at that time period would've still looked ethnically "Black". Rome is 100% white for some reason. It's really, really embarrassing.
