I feel that way too sometimes and I think its because you're probably not being forceful enough like they are with what you want out of a friendship, relationship, or in a FC or LS. You're probably trying your hardest not to offend or upset someone but in the process people think you don't have an opinion on anything and you're just the quiet guy who is always around. but yes if you aren't desperate for attention no one Will notice you as quickly as the ones that do. If you want a lot of friends quickly that is probably the best way to go about it though I am unsure of the quality of friends this kind of attention gets you.

chain running 1-10 with another dps friend is probably the fastest levelling in the game. ignore everything, just rush for the exit and you'll finish in 10 minutes if not less. even without being super efficient its still pretty good overall, post 50 is way faster and less hairpulling than HW levelling dungeons. that being said if you go with a random and fail at level 49 its the most infuriating thing ever since you get nothing.
