If you still see some skeletons with glowing eyes, it means you didn't get them all. Some of them are hidden in back paths and shit, the Catacombs are pretty damn convoluted if you try to actually explore them instead of gunning straight for Pinwheel.

And if I remember right, I'm pretty sure that it automatically awards you with one when you kill the last one, like with the Drake Sword. As long as you pick up the loot from whatever Necromancer you killed, it should have been impossible to miss.

What's a good small round shield that goes well with Drakeblood Armor, Black Knight Gauntlets, and Morne's Leggings? I'm using Lothric Knight Shield. I can parry fine against some slower weapons, but fuck me I can't punish ninja dash dagger with a parry even when I feel I got the timing down.

DaS2 had many flaws, but at least it tried to be consistent. That sort of naming convention can be confusing in a way that serves nobody, and driving away potential fans is no way to make a product in any case. Not every game has to appeal to bottom of the barrel normies, but they don't have to directly alienate them either.

Miyazaki tried to replace power-stancing with weapon arts and dual weapons, but it resulted in fewer overall options. I never power-stanced in DaS2, but after learning it was possible I'm creating a new character to power-stance the greatshields, just for fun.

And one of the main problems with DaS3 is that it just feels like an expansion pack for DaS1, only made on an engine funded with Sony's money. There were certainly problems with how lots of shit functioned in DaS2 (floaty movement/combat, weird world interactions, fucking soul memory, etc.), but it still irks me as to why the things that DaS2 got right weren't included in DaS3 (elemental scaling, hexes, non-instant backstabs, to name a few).

It will swipe its head back and forth about 7 times. This has negligible tracking and can be fucked by getting behind it. The hitbox is oversized and poorly aligned

It will smash its head up and down about a half dozen times. This has a massive phantom hitbox that covers almost the entire space around and in front of it and the best response is simply to run away. It also has poor tracking but the hitbox is so fucking bad it doesn't matter

It will raise its big claw and then slam it down. If you're still in front after this, it will immediately begin the head slam chain. This move has decent tracking but you can get behind it easily if you time your roll.

Basically Miyazaki's master stroke was to hide the terrible hitboxes of this game behind awful visibility where your camera goes out of control and your screen is filled with indistinct black shit so you can't tell you're being jewed out of all your health by attacks that blatantly miss you. Since all of the pus of man's attacks have shit tracking, you can trivialize them by stunning them once with fire damage and running behind them. They turn a little bit at the start of each new attack, but you can adjust for that easily and just mash R1 into their ass until death.

It's pretty flexible.
Theres a long delayable window after a roll where you'll perform a rolling attack and you can cancel this window early by holding any movement direction, which will allow you to perform a standing attack out of a roll almost immediately.

Delaying rolling attacks is very useful for UGS since you can punish parry fishing by delaying slightly. An extremely delayed UGS rolling attack is still significantly faster than an immediate standing R1 because fromsoft no balance good.

Yeah, well, what this game series calls "greatswords" is often longswords and longswords are actually arming swords...

And then you have vidya kiddies who have played Dark Souls tell how "halberds were really better weapons than swords!" and making autistic weapon power rankings based on their experience in video games, even though their utility in real life was a lot different and doesn't translate well into videogames so they just make cool looking but unrealistic movesets that work for the single combat aspect that the games are showcasing.

For example poles and halberds were good at crowd control and taking down horsemen, but in single combat they were more unwieldy than they're presented as in the game. Or the developers accentuated some real world properties of the weapons so that they would come off as functionally different enough weapons.

The Deep and the Abyss are similar, yet distinct concepts. Both the Deep and the Abyss are associated with darkness/humanity, which you can see by how deep/Dark weapon infusions both deal dark damage, and how deep/Dark magic all deal dark magic. Furthermore, Deep gems explicitly state that the Deep is "a darkness that lies beyond human understanding."

However, there is a distinction between the two. The TLDR statement is that the Deep represents the power of controlled, non-mutated, "docile" Humanity, while the Abyss represents the power of Humanity after it goes wild and mutates. There are several pieces of evidence to suggest this:

The most direct piece of evidence you can observe from the way that Deep and Dark weapons scale. Deep weapons deal dark damage, while Dark (aka Abyssal) weapons deal dark damage with int/fai scaling. This is a mirror of how fire and chaos infusions function. Working with the basic assumption that similar things are similar, this implies that the Abyss is the Deep's version of Chaos. Which makes sense with our thesis, when you consider that the Abyss is mutated and out-of-control Humanity.

The second piece of evidence comes from the lore associated with the Deep. The Deep was once a peaceful, gentle place until horrible monsters moved in, and prey upon explorers of it. You can summon these monsters with the Gnaw spell, which was added to the Deep tome in the form of Dark Tales that corrupted it. Keep in mind that in DaS3, whenever you see "the Dark" used as a title (capitalized and everything), it refers specifically to the Abyss. This reinforces the narrative established in DaS2 that the Dark is "naturally" supposed to be soothing and gentle, and the Abyss is a horrific corruption of it. Now, Abyss monsters lurk within the Deep like sharks lurking in water.

Returning to how "the Dark" refers to the Abyss, neither Deep Soul, Great Deep Soul, or Deep Protection are referred to as Dark Magic (continued)

Even though Deep Spells are referred to as Dark Magic, they are still powered by humanity. Great Deep Soul states that the magic was founded upon studying the "stagnant [human] souls of the Cathedral of the Deep," and Deep Soul states that "Souls that swell from the Deep are drawn towards life," which is characteristic of humanity-powered magic. They, like pikes, were mostly used for formation fighting.

Halberds with axe blades were unwieldy and the longer your weapon is, the easier it is to close in if you miss a swing or a poke and if I close in past your weapon's blade with a sword, you're fucked. This is less of a problem in formation fighting when I've got homies backing me up in case you dodge a thrust. Against mounted troops the halberds had good reach and guards often had poleaxes / halberds because they could be used to control relatively large spaces against a crowd with reasonably little manpower.

However, poleaxes and polehammers are better capable of transferring force into a blow, which was good against armor, so when battling knights a pole weapon with a hammer head or axe was preferable to a sword, otherwise you had to half-sword and hope you'd penetrate the other target.

Either way, you can't just say "halberd beats sword, sword beats axe!", when they're all useful but useful for different utilities and the context in which they are used and the skill in weapon of those who use it matter more.

Sellswords are very good. They're one of the better curved swords, which is saying a lot because almost every CS is good

2kat are strong and versatile and have their amazing WA. Probably the single best weapon in the game for a bleed build.

Twinaxes are the best small axe by a wide margin. Not great relative to non-axe weapons but the damage is obscenely high.

gotthard's are top tier and considered one of the best weapons in the game

twinspears are basically a worse gotthards. Not great but not bad.

and the drang hammers are kinda shitty but can combo into their WA for like 1600 damage so they're basically an all-or-nothing touch of death weapon.
