It's got better weapons and armor, it's got foraging as a skill, it's got a much better starting interface, it allows you to have fun on ships, some towns don't look like shit anymore, and a million other things too.

I'm not sure that an automatic foraging system would make much sense or add much to the game. Food would normally be stockpiled in centralized locations, people wouldn't just give it up unless you pay for supplies or force them to hand it over, which is already represented by the current interactions with villages (force to give supplies). Even turning them down by half wouldn't make a difference because if I recall correctly, the battle simulator doesn't pay much attention (if any at all) to quality of troops and just resolves battles by numbers, and the only time an army of 400 bandits could be beaten would be if they happen to be caught en-route by a marshall and his followers during a war, and the followers all piled up on them, otherwise you just have single nobles and carravans being constantly caught and raped.

The lord's army being too big is not the biggest issue, it's the fact that he has around 8 other stacks right next to him with ~80 troops each, who never stray too far away.

Just fix the problem by having the bandit leader sized around 100 and have maybe 4 10 - 15 sized stacks following him around in order to catch and hold down victims so the leader can catch up. Make the leader have stronger bandit units under his command so that it would be balanced for troop-count focused auto resolve and player engagements.

I have every bandit lair uncovered on the map, and I never destroy any of them. They're incredible sources of money when you have like 100 slaver chiefs/crushers with you. Wait until nightfall and pick the armies apart one or two at a time and stock them in your town. Eventually you'll have literally 500+ prisoners, so when a ransom broker shows up you get like 50,000 denars. I do this with mounted taiga bandits and
I still only lose 1-2 units a battle, if that. Usually they just get wounded because of my surgery party skill. I'm on the hardest combat difficulty so don't say it's because I play on easy or something. My reinforcement count is only like 40-50 but that's because my rig can't handle the huge battles. Even if I lose like 20, which has never happened, there's always like 20-30 manhunters that were captured by the bandits so I'm always fully stocked with guys after every fight
I've made like 60k in like 45 minutes doing this. By the time I've dealt with the shittery from one bandit lair, the other is fully stocked and waiting to be abused.

I've never made so much money from bandits before, especially considering they have high tier troops with them too.
I enjoy that aspect of floris and I'll miss it when I move onto a mod that doesn't have them

Assuming you don't farm all the bandits of the whole map at once you can still take the destroy bandit lair quest and have decent bandit armies roaming around.
Though even with full slaver crushers taking on full desert bandits armies can be tricky, and no way in hell I'm kiting apart those horsefuckers, I have better to do with my time.
Also here's an hint, people never really complained, its a fucking meme everyone knows you can disable them

You'll have to do something similar in the early and mid parts of the game in order to level up and gain renown/honor, might as well make a lot of money doing it. You get rich really fast doing this which means less time spent picking at scraps and more time building armies and conquering castles. It's easy to recruit soldiers in floris so my infantry army constantly grows in my town while my manhunters capture people. Soon you'll have so many investments you won't need to kill bandits anymore, and more bandits capturing lords means less lords fucking with you.

I always felt like I was wandering aimlessly looking for scattered bandits to fight in vanilla, but in floris there's always action around.

Sucks for the khergits and sarranids though, their bandits are scary.
