XCOM overstates how many Vipers are employed directly by ADVENT. Take this lovely lady here just trying to earn a living for her sneklets by being a maid, for example.

Don't listen to XCOM, kids.

Well, in general the weapon modders have brought their A-game so there's a metric fuckton of shit like the XM8, PKM, RPKn, SCAR-H, Mercenary Plasma etc etc etc. The latter is by far the best one imo because it actually manages to tackle the much harder T3 aesthetic in a good looking way rather than make tacticool weapon port #52952. For a rundown of everything that's happened you could always check the modlist.

If you're talking in less broad terms, E3245 released a M1911 that looks amazing tonight and another mod which adds PCPs was also released a few hours ago.

You really should make a /xcg/ homebrew character pool man, maybe even make one of those google docs which lets you submit people. It'd be a clusterfuck, but I'd like it a lot.

>>153346910
Plot-cover parcel. In XCOM's procedural map generation, parcels are the prebuilt jigsaw pieces that make up the map, like a gas station or an apartment complex. PCPs are what fills up the blank space in between those parcels, so wilderness, roads, or desert. They're notable because there really aren't that many of them - nine or so per biome/map type - so modders making new ones is great. You really notice that it's a bit less samey.

So, I just bought a load of powered armor and now i don't need ceramic plates on everyone in my LW campaign. What sort of stuff do gunners and infantry need to carry, apart from the obvious scopes?
>>
>>153367158
I give gunners extra ammo but I use them for suppression, infantry get the +crit targeting module because they have lock and load and scope already.
>>

>load of powered armor
Which kind? Just confused because you said you were still using ceramic plates.

I honestly am not sure. You used to be able to stack more aim item together, but now the scope can only stack with the laser sight.
You could try the +1 damage items for your weapon tier.
More ammo is good for gunners. More Health is also still good for gunners since eventually alien will hit through your suppression.

Corsair. I skip the middling stuff until Muton elites show up since not much else can 1-hit you. This time I rushed powered armor and just went tactical+plate => corsair. I don't tend to spam suppression much either, so I don't tend to run mags dry that easily. I'm actually thinking about respirators, they're pretty cheap and they give 1 HP and effectively 1 mobility even if you don't need their actual abilities.

Making a voice pack is a bit more tedious than I thought it would be.

Only downloaded 2 gb of the 42.7 gb package.

The thought of needing a set of cue files for each condition for each voice is pretty scary
>>
>>
>>153373965
nah it's not that hard, you get used to the workflow and you can get all of it sorted in about an hour. All I did was import my soundfiles, create 1 cue for each voice file and then highlight all of the sound files I wanted and right-clicked inside the cue editor - you can pick random and it'll link ALL of the selected sounds together to a single random cue thingy. That saved me such a fucking massive amount of time.
>>
>>153376579
by voice files I actually meant the sound banks things like moving, firing, overwatch .etc
>>
>>153376579
Ah okay.

I mean I'm doing 3 sets of voices since there's 3 Arabic voices from MW.

So say Arab 1 -> Arab 1's voice cues -> Random for each group of actual sounds

But I would need to create a set of voice cues for each voice I'm putting in?

They just collapse into reality once they spot you

I think on some mission types they are actually on a "hunt mode" (fuck landed mediums) and zero in on you.
If you really break LOS then they should wander into your overwatch, but otherwise they know where your LOS is, you probably count tiles too

The only think that pisses me off is when a flying pod decides to cover three quarters of a map in one move and there will always be that one cyberdisk who doesn't move and now you can't get to him and he is on the other side of the map killing civilians and when he's done he'll pop out of the roof and crit your scout and now you have another scout in a sickbay and all because some fucking drone has rockets in his ass, but I suspect it's because they got "stuck" somewhere and the game just corrects it to where they should be. Oh, and they'll always flank my concealed guy so he activates the pods he sees and everything goes a bit wrong.

Little more difficult. Someone was talking about making a mod that adjusted ruler reactions. Ruler reactions now only trigger on offensive actions (anything that deals damage). Unfortunately I don't think this mod was ever seriously worked on past the idea phase.

Now the problem is the three mutons mapping out their assault, and the cyberdisc pod that just wandered up to our camp. The situation improves. We have a chance to destroy this disc before its drones can repair it, but our odds would be better if we could move out. The muton and the robot flanking party prevent us from doing so safely, and destroying the disc would likely mean leaving our frontliners vulnerable to a possible kill shot by the seeker. We could leave the disc suppressed and hope the drones go to repair it, but the seeker remains a big problem. Because of the cover destruction caused by the grenade, Capt. Fenton and Sgt. With holo-targeting data transmitted from Zanetti's pistol, Sgt. Moore lands a shot that glances off the muton's armor. Hurt and panicked, the muton flees for his life with the scouting party in hot pursuit. Sniper Moore loads his rifle and looks on in concern, he can't cover his teammates past those towers.

The injured muton flees into the aft end of the ship, and his much larger brother emerges to challenge the duo.

A risky maneuver with the injured muton lurking below, but Fenton and Zanetti count on his grievous wounds keeping him out of the fight while they tear through this muton at close range. Nothing emerges from below to punish us. At this point the Captain needs to start thinking about whether he wants to move his squad up to occupy the towers.

The fun never ends for these two. Zanetti moves up to look for the muton below - the door going into the aft end from this side is sealed, so he must be hiding below, right?

Turns out he isn't there, and we reveal another muton and three floaters to boot.

Captain Fenton orders yet another retreat to the LZ. Sniper Moore is still in position to take down flyers and cover the two.

What tile triggers the gangplank disc? The one I fought can't have been that one since it came in a pod.

>>153392413
Dangerous, but I think they're the two best suited for it. They're fast enough that they can sprint out of danger pretty safely as soon as they take contact, and pack enough of a punch to take down one or two stragglers themselves.

The next battle goes by the numbers, everyone knows what happens at the LZ by now. No pictures needed.

The leader of the discovered team charges headlong up the ramp, maybe he should've taken a look at the muton corpses littering the walkway as he ran forward.

His floater squadmates fly high above and XCOM spends a few turns blasting the sky and eventually destroys the floaters.

There are still two mutons suspected to be running around the ship, one injured. Team leader Fenton waits for everyone to lock and load before the three man team of assault, scout and sniper move out again.

The squad looks down from their towers, confused, before Sgt. Moore hears an ominous humming from behind...

Another thin man drops in next to the muton, and the sectoid drops into the corridors and dies immediately. The remaining three aliens stay hidden up in their perches, and the standoff continues.

Zanetti, Fenton, and Farah are preparing to charge up the port side fusion reactor ramp to take the fight to the lone thin man. One wrong shot up there could lead to catastrophe. It's a slow way to take down one alien, but the muton and thin man on the other side are pinned by our rear team and they know it. We have time to prep the perfect breach.

Finally finished the Merc Plasma mod, SMG is out complete with all the usual, also has a new SMG fire animation where soldiers grab that vertical foregrip thing when they fire.

Unfortunately they hold the gun by stabbing it with their fingers and clipping half their hand through the weapon when they are in the avenger. I don't think it's possible to make them use specific idle animations for a specific weapon. Well to be more accurate, i'm sure it's possible i just don't know how and it's probably fairly complicated.

It's also now compatible with grimy's loot mod, and i fixed a bug where the weapons would only shred as much armor as magnetic weapons instead of plasma(oops), unfortunately now we're back to the ugly T3 Plasma alien looking aiming reticle.
>>

>>

The only thing i'm sick of is filthy advent traitors infesting our world.

Next plan is a cosmetic helmet, when i finished the spark gun and i was playing the game i came to realize how desperately i need a helmet with a very specific design that isn't available across the twelve million seven hundred fifty four thousand cosmetic mods available in the workshop.

Then i'll make a T 3.5ish mod with the Merc Plasma Weapons, then either Ayys or some Spark cosmetics.

Yeah, the guy you're replying to is using the /xcg/ character pool and he's in there.

For context, I did a modded to shit run a few months back where I cranked up everything to eleven with pod sizes of 8-12 and XCOM squad size of 8-10, as well as a drove of other balance tweaks like grenade damage falloff, fatigue, cohesion, a smaller class rebalance, changing a few enemies etc etc. I ended up storyposting a part of it. Everyone in the campaign ended up dying horribly because I stacked things against the player a little bit too much, and the guy in the picture gained notoriety by taking a little bit longer than most to die. I also headcannon'd him into a position as Field Commander, which makes it kind of fitting that the shit really started to hit the fan the moment he bit the dust.

How many characters are in the /xcg/ pool now by the way?

Well, at least you responded. I appreciate it. Do you remember what .ini file you modded all that in, especially the arc thrower and wound/repair timers?

Also, does no one else here play LW? Seriously? I figured /xcg/ would be all over LW modding.
>>
>>153402424
Just google how to do .ini edits and how the air war works in long war. Honestly if fatigue/wound/repair times are too long for you then you're doing it wrong and need to stop stretching your resources so thin.

Just turn on Friendly Skies and Cinematic Mode if you don't like RNG difficulty and/or use the Red Fog option. Red Fog sounds scary but it affects the aliens in LW so it's actually very beneficial to you.
>>
>>153457493
I know how to edit .inis, I don't know *which* ones to edit. I likely won't change wound/fatigue times, just interceptor repair times and rearming times (which are just too damn long).

I'm also still curious if there are any other mods that go well with LW (UI mods, graphics mods, etc).

Fair enough. Wasn't sure if /xcg/ had a guide laying around, since I know we've got LW resources somewhere.

Any other mod suggestions? Or changes from b14 to whatever we're on now that I should know about?
>>
>>153458394
The main changes in b15 are that you get more loot but things cost more to make, to 'stimulate the economy', whatever the fuck that means in LW. Perk changes Basically, be stingy with weapon fragments because you need a ton lategame.

Also medics are more support-grenade focused than before so there's some vague reason to actually bring one. Scouts and engies less so to make room for the medic. They're still not exactly must-haves, just like rocketeers.

The only things I mod are arc throwers: iAlloy 102000 makes them come with the Repair feat for free so they have 3 shots. I just get rustled by arc throwers in general, but the game is balanced around capturing being tricky. Otherwise you'd be rolling in plasma weapons by 2017 and faceroll everything.

I don't use the rulers armor much, so couldn't really help you there. People generally throw their assaults into rage suits, and I think either specialist or a marksmen in the snek suit. With the free frost bomb it gives, just anyone who can use that is fine actually. Anyone who doesn't need a second utility item gets war-suit. If you have any snipers they get the spider/wraith suit. Wraith suit can also be very good on assaults

You know one thing I always loved about the visual design of the Combine soldiers? No goddamn shoulder pads. Unless you're wearing some sort of full-cover superheavy armor, there is no reason to have shoulder pads ever. Unless you think the battle might end up being settled with an impromptu football game.

Probably the best for characters and dialogue, agreed. Gameplay was worse than ME3 IMO.

Still, having all the companions in X2 is pretty radical. Soon they'll solve the issues with Legion and we can have him at last.
>>
>>153476658
I like the gunplay of ME3 better in some ways and the gunplay of ME2 better in some ways. For instance ME1 was very stiff, ME3 was a kinda loose, but ME2 had a nice balance of stiff and loseness that I like in 3rd person shooters. It gives the characters "weight" I guess you could say.

I hope they port Thane Krios over, and maybe Jack's prisoner outfit.

The Council forwarded us a transmission directly from the president of Nigeria, promising to triple his nation's contribution to the XCOM project for the month if we can discreetly deal with the alien incursion occuring outside Kaduna. The aliens inserted their troops in broad daylight, stopping traffic and abducting dozens of civilians.

Lt. Serrano volunteered to lead Gold team into the fight, but they're going into a covert operative extraction in just two days. Due to injuries and fatigue across the board, the mission belongs to Corporal Amanda Scott and the relatively inexperienced Jade team.

It is really bad, and I actually might just have to pull back and try to evac everyone. The enemy doesn't want to move anywhere near my blue move radius, so I might be able to pack everyone into the zone in one sneaky turn. This squad's already lost a soldier and I feel bad for them, and Nigeria is pretty low on panic.

This is absolutely insane, but the squad has chosen to stay and fight. The plan was to keep close to the storage room and evac zone for safety, but we've already spread too far for us to evac in one turn.

The team does well in taking out the seekers though, the big one came out far enough that the squad could concentrate fire without exposing themselves to the floaters. The smaller seeker came through right after, and met a similar fate, while the floaters continue to hang back.
>>
>>153504240
Alright, I may have to just evac them. The game keeps crashing during random shots, plasma or laser, doesn't matter. Not sure what's causing it, thought it was cover destruction but there's something else going on.

The squad is split into two teams, working either side of the storage room's exterior. Medic Melanie Chavez retreats behind the building to treat the injury she's taken, the floaters can hit us accurately through full cover when airborne. rocketeer Holly Tucker fires an unsteady rocket that manages to find its mark, killing a floater and leaving a floater leader open for a killshot by sniper Amy Bennett. Finally, infantryman Jill Mitchell, the squad's newest member, takes position to secure that side of the building from enemy approach.

On the other side of the building, heavy gunner Eri Sasaki draws the enemy in with fire while her squadmates wait just behind the shutter door. The three gal assault team needs to spring out at the pivotal moment, when the three of them can destroy their remaining enemies before they can react. Cpl. Scott uses her final motion tracker charge, counting four enemies in range and a large signature that could be four or five inactive contacts.
>>

>>
>>153506608
Of the two truly scary contacts remaining, the team leader of the remaining floater squad is deemed the bigger threat. The giant seeker is active and may very well flank Lcpl. Sasaki, but the floater leader most definitely will if he isn't controlled. The assault team remains behind the shutter door, waiting for the rest of the squad to move up and support the attack.

...on the aliens' turn, the floater fires a 1% shot at Sasaki, blowing up the shutter door and crashing the game. I don't think I can actually have her suppress from that spot.

Sasaki pulls back instead of suppressing the floater captain, dodging reaction fire from the giant seeker to go back into hiding and protect the shutter door. The floaters wait for an opportune shot, one of them plinks at new girl Mitchell and misses by a mile.

The giant seeker disappears, presumably cloaked and waiting to flank someone. In spite of this, Cpl. Scott gives the signal to breach, and the assault team moves out to destroy the 3 floaters and create some breathing room.

...as Scott leaves the room, two floaters fire reaction shots into the general vicinity of the opened shutter door, causing the universe to implode. Sorry to anyone who wanted the story, but I'm getting frustrated. Gonna give them one more shot at glory before going back and pulling them out.

The situation is finally developing. Eri Sasaki makes a brave sacrifice for the sake of the mission, firing first and drawing the floaters' reaction fire. One of their shots finds its mark and hits her, causing her to panic during delivery and miss her target. The other goes wide of the shutter door and the universe continues its existence unabated. Chavez can move to Sasaki quickly and heal the injury, and she's in good cover so the risk of her dying is minimal.

Without fear of destroying the shutter door, the assault team moves out to destroy the enemy.

Assault specialist Stephanie Griffin grazes the floater with her scatter laser, leaving it injured but alive and functional. Mitchell keeps them pinned, but she can't stop them from shooting, and if she misses, the floaters will eat the assault team alive. Chavez can move out to half cover and either shoot at the injured floater or treat Sasaki, but at risk of taking another injury or even being killed.

Someone's a dead woman because of that fucking shutter door.
>>
>>153509481
Alright, mission's over for the night, one floater survived our counter barrage and suppressed the panicked Lcpl. Sasaki, of course destroying the shutter door she's behind.

I'll probably either evac the squad or do mission restart for an LZ on the other side of the map, but no more long war tonight.

Hey /xcg/, I've decided to try my hand at modding. Now, I'll admit, I've never done any sort of coding/programing before, but I need a project to keep me busy through the winter, and this seems like a good investment to make. I wanted to run my idea past you guys first, so let me know what you think.

>An enemy based around the Eversor Assassin from Warhammer 40,000. A speedy, suicidal melee unit pumped full of volatile, explosive chemicals. I'm thinking of giving him high mobility, a small amount of dodge, and very low HP with a single point of armor. I'm thinking of giving him a few melee perks such as Lighting Strike (free melee attack against any unit within blue movement range), Reaper (but only later in the game, like late middle), Hit and Run (so on a successful melee strike, he'll get one free movement) and Bladestorm (free melee attacks against any unit that move within melee range). I also thought of giving him a free dose of Overdrive Serum (to further give him that drug addicted psycho vibe), and maybe the Enrage perk as well (too much damage will put him into a Berserker rage, where he'll attack the closest unit to him, friend or foe). I want to keep his attacks very low in damage (maybe 2-4 when they first start appearing, and 4-6 late game), but make it so he can make a lot of attacks on his first turn (to make up for his really low HP). And when he's killed, he'll burst into a poison gas cloud (like the Thin Mints from XCOM: EW) that also sets units caught too close to the explosion on fire (something akin to the Pyrogen grenades you can get from the Muton Demolishers.).

What do you guys think? Is this doable? Would you play with an enemy unit like this, or do you think it's a bit too ambitious (for a first timer, at least) or is it unbalanced?

The one thing that I feel x-com has over the newer games is that simulation feel. You just are in charge of an organization to stop ayys and how you proceed is entirely up to you.
>>
>>153551746
Sounds intriguing and possible, but by no means easy. And I mean that honestly, if you execute right it seems like this unit would have a different feel from current enemies in the game.
>>
>>153544234
The only really issue with og x-com is how hard it is to get a grasp on all the mechanics which at no point does the game bother to explain to you. Once you do have all the mechanics down pat, it actually has less bs then newer XCOMs. Except psi. That is some pure bs.

Bit of a noob question:
With some of the weapon mod packs there is a stat for the weapon that's just called "crit", and with all the weapons the value is 2. What exactly does this mean? e.g HK416 has a crit of 2. It's a different value than critical chance
>>
>>153579193
Increase in crit damage, unless I'm mistaken

>>153578731
So did I, glad someone remembers it
>>
>>153579193
i think it shows how much more damage the weapon does on a crit
example, an assault riffle has 3-5 damage
if the crit value is 2, then on a crit it would deal 5-7 damage
>>
How would you change the strategic layer, /xcg/?

I would make it so that operations were frequent and somewhat persistent. That is to say, there would always be missions on the map and the player would be limited in their ability to carry them all out. Gorilla ops would be flagged ahead of time to let you know that your window to accomplish X and Y is coming up soon. Operation results could include hampering ADVENT's ability to deploy troops, and neglecting to act upon such opportunities would power spiral you to death eventually.

Supply raids would always be available with the map markers showing you where the aliums are currently stashing their shit, but those would be some of the most difficult ops in the game. You could also pay some intel to have your resistance contacts ambush a supply train in transit.

The Avatar Project would not instagib your campaign. Instead, Avatars (more powerful than in vanilla) would begin appearing in ever greater numbers on the field.

Etc etc...

Having all the missions constantly on the map just like alien facilities and story missions is definitely something I agree with.
Eventually the missions would expire. Some would just expire meaning you have to wait for new ones to pop up, others would have negative consequences. I would think very small consequences (1 more hp for this kind of unit, 1 more unit in one of the ops, % chance for extra pod be on the mission). These would represent the slow ramp up of ADVENTS resources being spent stop you. You can do as many missions as you want, but you only have so many soldiers, especially so many experienced soldiers or gear to take on the missions. Once you try the mission, it disappears for most, but some missions you can try again, only the security will be beefed up.
Eventually some of these missions will slip through the cracks leading to the "progression" or research of ADVENT going forward.
I think the Avatar idea would be neat. I would make it so ADVENT gets huge research bonuses while the project continues. There needs to be something to signal game over though imo, and to me this would just be represented by a % bar. This bar would literally be the percentage of humans liquefied in ADVENT controlled populations. Once that's finished, the ayys will have an insane amount of research and will start devoting all their resoruces to attacking the Avenger. If the player still hasn't lost yet, they will have to scrape through most likely multiple base defenses, not to mention how impossible most missions will be. I would expect most to lose around the 50% liquidation mark regardless of skill.
In a perfect world, winning after the Avatar project is literaly genociding the human race would give some sort of "good" dark ending, because literally x% of the world's population is dead, and cleaning up all the aliens will be a huge effort.

You have to gather intel through operative placements within the advent structure, and conduct operations/raids to collect intel and important individuals for things like prisoner trades and interrogation.

This intelligence apparatus is what primarily gives you any clue when/where/how a resistance settlement (or anything else) will be attacked - which ideally gives you time to arrive before the attack begins and catch them unawares. Otherwise you get raids more or less as they are right now.

Furthermore, x-com isn't the central focus of the resistance. Just an elite rapid-response strike team, and one leadership element, that the resistance has at their disposal. No longer is there a process of moving across the planet 'unlocking' zones: Instead all zones are unlocked, and there's more of them, and you can freely move around but for air defense systems detecting or firing at you. Each zone represents cultural/strategic centers, with varying degrees of territory and amount of the population pro or anti resistance.

Success doesn't revolve around this stupid avatar project gimmick, but whether or not the resistance itself is crushed. You have to spread propaganda, wake up the normies, arm them, destroy advent logistics, cut off utilities to population centers to destroy their quality of life - making entire cities angry at you but even angrier at advent for failing to provide security and stability.

The alien goals:
Total control over Earth's biodiversity; the only thing actually valuable about the planet.
Control over the population so the first goal can be maintained; gradually they'll be genocided out of existence and the planet totally annexed.

Resistance goals:
Wake the common people up to the scam that was the takeover and globalist unification of all their nations
Fight an insurrectionist rebellion against the existing control structure that has the aliens at the top
Push the aliens back off the planet

>>153581913
>You can do as many missions as you want, but you only have so many soldiers

Yes, exactly. This would call for something like LW's fatigue, of course, but that's all to the better.

I would also like it if your ability to recruit new soldiers (rookies and pre-ranked) was decided, partly or entirely, by the current state of the resistance. Let's say you failed to save a lot of the resistance members during your last few retaliations. That would reduce the number of soldiers available to you, and even require you to fly over to where those few are hiding.

There could even be a system that lets you invest supplies, intel, etc directly in the resistance. The more you give them, the more soldiers you will get in return, the more supply train ambushes they could carry out, etc.

>>153582389

I like this. Especially the idea that regions would have individual frontlines for the resistance and ADVENT to fight on.
>>
>>153583859
It might not even need fatigue, thought that's a possibility. Could even just be wound timers. You keep doing missions until you just don't have enough experienced troops to expect success, or you start doing suicide ops.
Building off the others guys ideas on regions, each region could have their own resources. So that would mean soldiers, gear, and weapons. Each region can build its own stuff, but at the start of the month (and maybe midway through) you get to decide where to move things. However, once you move stuff its locked in unless your willing to pay alot of resources. You could tie this into the intel mechanic which would help you forecast where you need those resources.
Weapons would be once again be made all individually, same with armor.

Building off XCOM just being one piece of the entire resistance, they could be important because they would be your only fully mobile strike team that can move between regions constantly.Staffing the Avenger would have very premium costs, compared to just putting the same staff, gear, and resources in a single region.
>>
>>153584704

Excellent thinking. Let's add to this, the ability to deploy your own soldiers or entire squads to regions to aid the resistance over time. They'd gain experience but also risk wounds and death.
>>
>>153585004
>>153584704
Kind of thinking more about how you would control how many missions a player could embark on, I would saying making sure that the AI/pods would are revamped so they either have completely random pathing, or set patrols that are not anchored to the player. Stealthing missions objectives would actually be possible and encouraged. You would get less experience, but the more engagements you avoid, the less firefights your troops will find themselves in and the less likely they are to get injured. Keep chaining fast smash and grab missions together and you can keep fielding troops to get the missions done. To counter this you would need a heat system that puts ADVENT more and more on alert with each mission you complete.
>>
Wait, you guys have amazing ideas, but here's one to help you guys meld everything together,

Take WaveCOM
Make it the actual campaign
Have the strategy layer take place fully on the tactical map
>>
>>153580380
I would set it up so that there would be a persistent generated ADVENT network futzing about and you were trying to work out which vulnerable points to crack and working at it eventually opens up other missions, and if you misjudge what you're capable of ADVENT throws the hammer at you.
>>
>>153544234
That's just because no one ever gets the balance right. You're supposed to be able to defeat the aliens with heavy ordnance at the very start, but the aliens WILL gib you as well. That's why it's fun, you have a feeling that your desperate escalation is slowly turning the balance towards you.
>>

We can always go what people forget we can do. Call Jake Solomon on the "We want you to help us destroy your game in a beautiful fashion" hotline.
>>
>>153587693
Well I still think that would probably never work, but I would like to see some people make some larger maps.
Stitch together multiple maps, rework the pods so they patrol independently of your squad, add multiple objectives with different rewards , include a reinforcement system. Make the map big enough so that enemies not near the objective are sparse. Add larger squad sizes.

You can now decide what objective you want to go for, how long you want to stealth. You can actually do flanks against isolated pods, pincer movements. You can split up your squad to go for multiple objectives at the same time. You can also add way more enemies without running out of space, or making it impossible for your squad to not get overwhelmed.
>>
>>153588506
Too long to travel around the map this way

Gold team is developing a reputation for its casualty rate, and for its members' grizzly appearances after terrible plasma burns and multiple surgeries and grafts. Hey /xcg/, I updated the pastebin again. Added five or so weapon mods, the new face pack that dropped a short while ago, and a new PCP pack. Also put in a wicked sick facepaint pack which I forgot to put there when it dropped.

I also removed a ton of stuff to shave off dead weight, mods which were either incompatible with the current version, small mods with too many bugs/incompatibilites to justify using or old stuff that's been outdone by current mods.

I tried to get a hold of Steam-collection anon about a week ago so he could update the collection too, but couldn't get to him and noticed it hadn't been updated since May so I said fuck it and made a new one with the 50 or so mods added since during the weekend. Is there a reason why the Rogue class, LW Perk Pack, and the LW SpecOps class aren't in the modlist under custom classes? They're all pretty excellent and well worth inclusion.

Also, why are the Mk. 21 Railgun and the Mercenary Plasma Weapon pack missing from the new weapons section? Both are made by anons here in /xcg/ and MPWanon is a hell of a trooper about it to boot. We should recognize their works.

XCOM2

It goes from brutally unfair with a lack of tactical options to take on enemies. You can't even point blank shoot them to guarantee shots.

Mid game is short and sweet where you actually have a chance of being injured but also a chance to make tactical decisions with the tools you have.

End game is a joke, it's too easy even on impossible and even without meme beacons.

Overhaul when.

XCOM1

It goes from brutally unfair with a lack of tactical options to take on enemies. You can't even point blank shoot them to guarantee shots.

Mid game is short and sweet where you actually have a chance of being injured but also a chance to make tactical decisions with the tools you have.

End game is a joke.

Overhaul when.

Still more options in the beginning then X1. Also you can point blank 100% people. Not that I'm saying I don't want an overhaul
>>
>>153624806

Nope.

Beagle has been playing Battlefield One all this time along side ChKillroy and Jamball. He has been decent enough.
>>
>>153631463
My point exactly.

Rinse and repeat. Jake did nothing but put a spin on X1 and call it his own.

All they did with the engine overhaul was break LOS more, which I did not think was possible.

We have a prettier shittier game.
>>
>>153631550
Oh see I thought you meant a youtube, mb.

>>153631581
See here I only agree with one of your points. X2 is definitely a different game, and definitely a good game.

The power creep your talking about is the consequence of trying to balance a game that let's you snowball through good play. It existed in the original x-com as well. It even exists in some x-com mods.
For example, most people find legendary extremely difficult. For those kind of players, the campaign will be tough all the way through. For a player who thinks it's easy, the game breaks to early for their tastes.
>>
>>153631581
>>153630998

This is a very common complaint and i completely agree with it, but this applies to pretty much every game out there. In most games by the end you are so powerful that nothing is challenging and it just becomes a chore to finish the game.

I think all we need are stronger ayys at the end, the vanilla ayys are very lackluster, the gatekeepers and sectopods are jokes. Even modded ayys are usually very tame, in the LW pack i think only the Muton Elites have given me trouble.

We need more magnificence like the Archon King.
>>
>>153631463
>Also you can point blank 100% people

Not in the beginning. The aim gain is fucky, for the ayys aswell, maybe even more so.

Point blank should be 100% against regular troops but aim fall should be higher and double so for shotguns.

Also SPARK class is a joke, and a shit tier version of MECs. XCOM1 universe is superior in everyway.

Why did they have to rebuild the old ayys? WHy not create new ones instead of ruining the old ones? They could have just added 10 more ayys ontop of having XCOM1 ayys. Have XCOM1 ayys on the outskirts and early game.
>>
>>153631845
Maybe I'm spoiled from Long War, since it keeps you on your toes pretty much the entire game (as long as you restrict squad size to 8 maximum).
>>
>>153632013
The ayys don't get range bonuses in the poor bastards.
XCOM 1 probably is the superior universe, though really after playing so much og x-com its really impossible for me to judge.

>>153632102
Yeah Long War does the difficulty progression well, probably the most standout feature of the over-arching campaign. It actually starts easy and then ramps up from their into a pretty consistent arms race.
>>
>>153631879
>I think all we need are stronger ayys at the end
i dont think that would work either, no matter how strong an enemie is given enough time players will learn how to crack them and we will be back at square one
i feel like we would need a different aproach, in paper a lot of ayys are very strong if you let them use their most powerful abilities, but the game rewards killing them as fast as possible
if we could get enemies that arent stronger but can hold their ground on their own better, but not so powerful to crush the player
i dont blame firaxis for the way the balanced the game since its a very thin line between going too easy or too hard
>>
>>153631879
>>153631879
>the gatekeepers and sectopods are jokes

Have you ever controlled one of these?

The lack of skills ayys have, makes it more than apparent they rushed XCOM2, especially the AI. The AI in Long War is awesome in comparison. You actually have to think.

In XCOM2 I feel like I need to restrict my squad size to 4 all game in impossible. I wish the mechanics had something similar to points where you can only take 6 troops if two of them are rookies. Something like command points.
>>
>>153632340
It's pretty obvious they made the AI retarded on purpose.
>>
>>153632426
Yeah fug it. Next impossible campaign I plan on taking zero squad size upgrades and maybe use that mod that allows experience for troops who stay at home.

I need a challenge, but not if I lose multiple missions its gameover type of challenge.
>>
>>153632523
ADVENT could kick XCOM's ass if they had any "awareness" of the objectives. Literally an AI that just digs into heavy cover and overwatches half the time would be the end of anyones campaign.
>>
>>153631879
>but this applies to pretty much every game out there.

I hate this ever being mentioned.

>Everything is shit now, so we should put up with it or accept it as the norm.
>>
>>153632671
The point is that good games have this issue, so presenting as evidence as to why the game is shit is a bit dubious imo. It should definitely be improved, it's just really hard to do, there's a reason why its such a common problem.

>>153632653
Yeah they need Long War AI, so lightning reflexes would be way more valuable.

>>153632813
>It should definitely be improved, it's just really hard to do
SO instead of removing parts (airgame) they could have made it better. It's not hard to do, its about the money making model they have. They don't spend enough on code monkeys, and optimization. instead they throw money at marketing. IF they spent the right amounts of money on coding in XCOM2, it would have been an even bigger hit. But instead it is an unoptimised mess because of budget and time constraints on the foundations of the game.
>>
>>153633063
Aesthetics are 10/10 in in XCOM2.

Gameplay and DLC is 7/10.

Overall the game is is fun but nothing special. SPARKS are an absolute joke. Whoever came up with that shit should be shot.

>same with point blank shots.

why? how does that even remotely improve the game?
>>
>>153633628
You mean actually having risk vs reward on pushing up to the ayys and revealing LOS to get a better shot, instead of the current system where you break LOS and wait for ayys to flank themselves pushing up?

Feels like the game was never meant to have rifles and just shotguns instead.
>>
>>153633781
Who the hell breaks los in X2? Counter-productive on the majority of missions, impossible to most of the time too.
>>
>>153633476
>>It's not hard to do

Long War team did it for free in XCOM1. Surely a highly organized company and team of employees could do better? Wait they couldn't...
>>
>>153633873
Who the hell has trouble with timers? I routinely have 3 turns left on impossible, and break LOS often when better cover and positioning is a sprint away that also closes the gap to the objective.
>>
>>153633893
They did it and it came with a host of other problems. You may not be aware, but like 90-95% of the XCOM playerbase think people who play Long War are insane and that the mod is only for the most hardcore "masochistic" xcom players.
Your concept of what would sell well is pretty skewed.
>>
>>153633781
>i want more risk vs reward

>>
>>153634050
>but like 90-95% of the XCOM playerbase think people who play Long War

Actually you mean 90-95% of the normal player base who never played x-com or even EU when it came out.

Long War is for XCOM fans not the other way around.

>>153634050
>They did it and it came with a host of other problems

If you say so. Still runs leaps and bounds better than EU/EW and XCOM2. The problems people complain about are probably porn soaked, malware infested toasters. Ran multiple Ironman campaigns in Long War with no problems.
>>
>>153634368
No I do mean people who played XCOM1. That's exactly the people I'm talking about. No they probably never played x-com for sure.

>The problems people complain about are probably porn soaked, malware infested toasters.
The host of other problems I refer to has nothing to do with glitches or bugs. People who try it out don't get very far and think its too difficult or think its just too long (ie the common player). People who actually play through the entire thing just think it goes to far on the bs and has a ridiculous end-game resource and psi training grind.
>Still runs leaps and bounds better than EU/EW
Runs the same actually.
Most of the XCOM playerbase would not enjoy Long War. So if you want that, its fine, just don't expect better sales. In fact I'd expect abysmal results really.
