It's by far the best companion mod since it makes your follower interactive, the other ones just summon them and make them follow you like zombies. It also adds Ciri and Dandelion next to Triss at the end of B&W and you can also take Ciri as a companion.

I don't know about the fee agreement, but I'm pretty sure Sapkowski never expected games to become that big, especially at the time he sold the rights. Gaming was a more limited medium at the time and Poland wasn't exactly been know for their game developers.

But the games became a huge success and realistically speaking, raised the popularity of the whole franchise tenfold. He was known in Poland and some Eastern European counties, but the games really introduced TW to the western market. On some level maybe it hurts him that someone else managed to get world wide recognition using his work, but I can't know that for sure.

As far as his attitude goes, he is a straight forward guy from a different time, he knows very little about games and gaming in general and that shouldn't really be taken against him. Yeah, but his popularity wasn't really that big, it was a niche title with fairly limited number of copies sold. There are some charts on Amazon showing how much the sales of the books increased in the past few years, it especially skyrocketed in 2015. He often says the games and the books helped each others sales 50:50, but that is far from the truth, the games did way more to increase the sales of the books than vice versa.

Sapkowski is full of himself and kind of an ego maniac, but I have nothing against the man and people really shouldn't get so butthurt about him thinking the games or the gamers are stupid. He has spoken relatively positive about the games in the past, although always with a hint of arrogance, which he is fully entitled to for all I care.

TW4 will depend heavily on Cyberpunk success, if it gets big, they will probably focus on it, maybe do a trilogy or at least a sequel. If it busts, they might return to the franchise that made them big in the first place.

I finally convinced myself to stop crying like a babby and using "well there's no physical English copy" as an excuse to not read Lady of the Lake (10/10 btw, arguably best book in series, read twice in a row).

Now I need something else to forget how much I care about these characters, because otherwise life is suffering..

I picked up Name of the Wind and think it's okay so far, but Kvothe appears (at least thus far) to be 10x the mary sue that anyone could ever accuse Ciri of being. Maybe this is the fault of it being a 1st person perspective. I also picked up Gardens of the Moon and The Way of Kings to try some other fantasy series.

What I think the issue is, at least for me, is that what was so powerful for me in the Witcher was the family and friend dynamics between the characters that you don't find in most "dark" fantasy, even ASoIaF for how much it's praised. Where do I find a complex family relationship as deep as Geralt/Yen/Ciri or a bromance as great as Geralt/Dandelion/Regis/Cahir made an integral part of a lower/darker fantasy universe?

I am a russia and we had the Witcher series translated since 90s, pretty much in the same year of release of each book. English version is superior though, removes much of slavic folklore and Geralt's voice in games is just perfect.
