If it happens when you're and have been stationary for a while, you might just have other processes sapping your performance. Or your CPU might just be that weak.
>never goes above like 20%
The load percentage stopped being relevant when we switched to multi-core CPUs. With a 4-core, 25% is full load on a core, but the readings are not accurate enough. 20% might very well mean that you've hit full load for a while, and that might have caused the slowdown.

If anyone needs easy money quick and finds a planet with Gravitino Balls, check this out.

>This requires the Advanced Cooling Theta blueprint for your ship
>Fill up your ship until you have 4 empty slots left
>Make sure you dont have any Thamium9 in your ship slots
>Craft Advanced Cooling Theta in one slot
>Then dismantle
>The Gravitino Balls you got from dismantling the Cooling Theta are stackable up to 100

So you can run around the planet and pick up a ton more now sell them for a couple mil. Sell all but one and it will still be stackable.

>>
>>153242390
>costs 10 grav balls to make
>get 5 grav balls back
>repeat for profit
????
>>
>>153245926
Basically if the thread doesnt die you can have a General. For example, there was a Tales of Zerestria/Tales of- general for a little bit right after Zerestria released, but, after a few months it died and now Tales of- threads just exist on /v/. Old games can have a general but again if no one posts in them and they die then you cant really have a general. This is my general understanding being on /vg/ for a couple years now.
>>
>>153245926
anything that gets frequent and consistent enough threads to be a general, because they didn't want them clogging up /v/ as they become more common

>>153245990
bruh, it's not some troll physics thing, it just grants you a single _stackable_ instance of the grav balls, so you can go farm them from planets and wrecks and efficiently store them in big batches
>>
>>153245926
anything that has enough posters/players to keep a constant thread alive

I used to OP the DayZ general, a bunch fo retards started shitposting regularly and the game got kinda stale, so people just stop posting

>>
>>153246867
>so is it like a /v/->/vg/ thing then?

Well, you can post a general on /vg/ without ever going to /v/. The boards are not connected.

A rule of thumb is - if the game has a large audience and you want a constant thread to discuss things post on /vg/, if it doesn't and you want to discuss something once post on /v/

>>153248009

tl;dr make as many links as possible, make squares and straight lines as much as possible, and choose whether to spread link totals evenly among different stats in group or minmax inside that group

prioritize these, in order, for a given stat
>maximize number of upgrades installed
they stack multiplicatively for the total
>maximize total number of links for upgrades to stat within group
each upgrade's links get added (multiplicatively with each other) to another multplicative step for the total upgrade value
>maximize even distribution of links and raising of minimum link count
the above has diminishing returns, so a link can be worth more if assigned to an upgrade with fewer links than the rest

irrelevant
>contiguous groups of linked upgrades
didn't seem to actually matter for effective value if same number of links per upgrade were present
>tier of individual upgrade
assigning more or fewer links to different tiers of upgrades to a given stat makes literally no difference, provided the overall distribution is as even as possible in either case

>unknown
base multiplier per link, possibly scales with total number of links or base value for given stat, people finding anywhere from around 0.0375 to around 0.03815 - as a result total calculations didn't always match exactly, but magnitude and relative differences were precise

The planets to players ratio is stupidly large.
I'd say astronomical, but I don't want to give Sean the satisfaction.
Multiply that by how much crap there is on each planet, and even if someone finds a planet you found they will never find any of your crap.
But frankly, unless you hang out very near to the center of the galaxy, no one will ever even find your planets.

Never. There's absolutely no support for it in the engine, and adding it in would be a tremendous hassle.
Never mind that the engine is already strained so badly that the game barely runs.
Also it's directly opposed to the core gameplay idea (explore and never come back).

If it really matters that much to you, carve out "buildings" with the grenade launcher.

reddit is confusing me, so is this >>153250953 only applicable for the multitool or even JUST the boltcaster clip upgrades, while warp bonuses are additive? so a cross shape is better in that kind of case?
>>
>>153325582 >>153250953
Do redundant upgrades increase the link bonuses?
>>
>>153326353
you can't put duplicate upgrades can you?
>>
>>153325214
Did you tried again?
>>
>>153326835
PC can. And yes, redundant upgrades stack.
>>
>>153326353
there are no redundant upgrades, you can only install one of each existing blueprint - if something offers the same "level" or tier of upgrade, it will stack multiplicatively with the total bonus, but the rule of thumb still holds that the more links the better

what's confusing is that the numbers work out easily on the boltcaster clip size to see that you get diminishing returns on links per upgrade and so you want to distribute the total number of links as evenly as possible for a given stat within a group of linked upgrades, and the tier receiving the links is irrelevant - but then you look at the warp drive upgrades and link bonuses are additive with each other (no diminishing returns) and so you want to still maximize the total number of links over all else, but then you want to distribute the most links possible to the highest tier upgrade you can (so like a T-shape with your base hyperdrive plus sigma and tau upgrades all surrounding your theta upgrade)

plus stat bars don't seem to move much, you can't get hard numbers on most upgrades, it's a bit inconsistent whether straight lines even distributions of links are better than cluster of links focused on higher tiers

either way you still want to
>install as many upgrades as possible
>link as many upgrades together as possible
>make squares and lines, or Ts in some cases

purportedly you birth a star when you finish the atlas path but there's no actual proof it does a single goddamn thing or that you can see the result of your work so you might as well just sell your atlas stones, I didn't but I'm superstitious and still collecting them after I finished that to try and interact with portals and other weird shit I know does fucking nothing because I'm bored and desperately want for this game to be more than it is

I want a Mod that allows me to move my head around more than 2 degrees in the cockpit of my ship, and some sort of small, modular land vehicle for space exploration.

And for fuck's sake some sort of orbiting tool so mining asteroids isn't such a pain in the balls. Hell, even a simple 0 speed would be nice in space.

Dreaming big? Larger ships that are flyable by the player. Like the cargo ships you see in sectors. Have bays with 2 or 3 ship slots and allow rudimentary trading, or just allow the player to have more than one smaller ship (one for planet exploration one for fighting off raiders, one for asteroid mining maybe) Cargo ships obviously have very large storage capacity, maybe have 3 or so aliens on ship for the player to interact with to simulate a crew/actually allow handling of upgrades for different parts of the ship (Gunnery/Navigation/Engineering)

Pipe dream though, start small and just let us FULL STOP our ships in space for Christs' sake.

First off, I guarantee I'm older than you. Second, Anon asked for mods we'd like to see, so I just shat out a few for keks and zozzles. Thirdly, I didn't follow the development of this game like you fags did, so I wasn't soul-crushingly disappointed on release. As a matter of fact, I saw it when it was announced, thought "Hey cool, it's an exploration game," and didn't give it another thought until I saw it released. Bought it the day after and I love it. It's cathartic. I fly to a planet, find some ridiculous looking animals, run about in some pink grass, shoot some rocks, and then go to another planet and do it again. I think it's a cool game and I'm glad I bought it.

generally speaking you can only find a tool with 1-2 slots more or less than you have, so you must be getting unlucky - keep trying to find new tools (even on the same planet, doesn't really matter if it's the same base tool, the slots scale with what you have) and you'll find one with more

idfk what classifies as what, and I don't think there are more than the three "fighter" "trading" and "science" types, but none are actually good at anything in particular as far as anyone knows, because the aforementioned changes are so incredibly minor and offer no real incentive at performing most tasks (scan range, jump range, speed, slot capacity/stack size, max total slots, etc all remain the same)

you can take any ship, install literally every upgrade, and the differences will hardly be noticeable, so just find one that looks and handles in a way you like
>>
>>153341712
>not just carrying a stack of 500 of every basic isotope, oxide, silicate, and neutral on your ship
12 slots ensures you can repair or replace at least a few upgrades at any time, just keep them topped off or get rid of it all once you're done with the upgrade game\

also try salvaging wrecks, you can get pretty much anything you need to build other shit from them

Grinding inventory is all about finding Signal Scanners.
Bypass Chip them to find one of the following:
>Monolith: Language
>Colonial Outpost: Blueprints
>Transmission: Crashed ships or vendor trash
>Shelter: Exosuit upgrade vendor
And multi-tools just turn up anywhere.

Trade up free crap until 23-24 slots, then jump systems until you find one with a nice aesthetic.
(Scum around for a free one with 24 slots, it's faster than earning the money to buy one).

Exosuits cost 5,600,000 to fully upgrade, each vendor sells only one upgrade.
Space Stations will have 1 exosuit vendor behind an AtlasPass v1 door, but you'll find plenty on land.
>>
>>153341872

Each types is a set of "a skin" and "negligible stat boosts".
The number of slots is seperate, it'll be within 2 slots of your current multitool.
If you have 13 slots, you'll find 11-15 slot multitools in those styles.
Replace it with a 14 sloter, and you'll start finding 12-16 slots.

>>
>looking for portals

I feel like I'm on a guided tour and if I spend too long on a planet and try to actually do anything on it, I'm encouraged to leave and just see the next attraction - being able to do something, ANYTHING, of permanence that might assist in returning to favored locations or excavations, mining, etc would be a huge improvement in immersion
>>

Sean was very ambiguous about the games mechanics, content, and direction;
but "disincentivize ever returning anywhere" was explicitly part of the design philosophy.
>>

Seems odd that one of the only items on the roadmap so far is base building then.

>>153420642
well, I suppose this is one of those cases where I disagree with the nature of this specific facet of that design philosophy, rather than with their implementation of something that appears to have failed to meet the intended vision

being a space nomad is cool, but having the tools and the options to "settle down" even for a short while would make it more appealing to a broader audience (though it's debatable whether that would compromise the vision)

is there any reliable way of establishing "poles" on planet so you can navigate? I'm finding it very hard to determine how the weird waypoint thing works (not the glitchy visor one, but known things like monoliths etc), because the marker will flip to the other side of my screen which I think means I should be on the opposite end of the planet, yet the time indicator is inconsistent between directions even moving at the same speed

I'm trying to just establish an artificial "north" so I can search a planet for ruins without getting completely lost

Does the "Atlas Path" end when you get to the center or not? I heard just getting 10 atlas stones will end the path and you will start over in a new galaxy?
>>
>>153438508
Ending the Atlas Path will give let you see all the black holes, and they are a shortcut to the center of the galaxy.
After going through each black hole, a part of your ship will break. Once you reach the center of the galaxy, you will start all over in another galaxy, but all of your tech will be broken.
>>
>>153438508
so the atlas path can be done before going to the center... so the whole "choosing a path" thing is complete bullshit? you can do the atlas path and make it to the center in one run
>>
>>153439383
yes. but once you complete the atlas path, besides being able to see the black hole in the galaxy map, you'll also create a new star system in the galaxy, and a black hole will take you there.
I don't know how far the new star is from the center, so you may want to watch out so you don't get very far away from the center.
>>
>>153438160
c >>153275847

>>153439383
Getting to the center with 10 Atlas stones moves you to "Hilbert Dimension" (if it hasn't already), breaks all of your shit, and teleports you to a random spot near the edge.
You can't find "Euclid Galaxy" systems in "Hilbert Dimension" (or vice versa), but it's essentially the same old crap. There's no way back to "Euclid Galaxy".
>>
>>153440816
you don't need the stones
the stones is for the atlas path to create a new star
>>
>>153440816
you can consume 10 stones birth a star at the end of the atlas path and then just never go to the center if you want

Incoming casual faggot...

I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Sure the game is broken to shit, and we'll probably never see Sean again, but whatever.

Right now I'm 81 hours in, 37 slots in my suit, 39 in my ship, and a solid multi-tool. No atlas stones, no absurd amount of units (think I have about 13mil currently)

Here's what I'm doing to enjoy the game. Rather than blaze through to the end, I'm exploring sections of stars. My goal is to have a collection of 4-6 stars close to each other, which I will probably post up forever and call home.

Finding the right formula of stars has been tricky, but that's what keeps me playing currently. I have a project outside the norm, and I plan to complete it. When? IDFK, just something I want to do.

When and if the game is updated/patched/fixed/leaks plugged, I'll already have a nice setup.

cont'

It's kinda like Minecraft, after a while we run out of shit to do, so we start making stuff up.

It sucks that we're working with a shell of a game with a shit ton of potential, but with the magic of Mods, and some time, we can create something that'll make Sean piss himself with envy.

The ship has sailed and it's already sinking. So do you get your ticket refunded and head to shore? Or plug the holes and head for the sunset?

It has some wonderful moments if you keep exploring, for example, I was mining plutonium by digging a hole in the ground as soon as I landed.

After emptying the cave I got lost so I tried to make another hole to get out. As I made the final blow I stepped outside to what it was a wonderful view from the side of a mountain.

After that I made my way to mine some thanium 9 in the asteroid field just outside the planet and 3 enemy ships intercepted me, my suit and ship were full of plutonium and thanium9 and no oxides to replenish my shields.

I took down 2 ships but my shields were empty and taking critical damage when I noticed one of the drops from a downed ship had just enough Iron to replenish my shields and take out the last bugger.

Those moments are not scripted they just happen.

plutonium and thanium9 are the ingredients to make unstable plasma cells and are worth 27,000 credits a pop.

Funny enough, this was the thing that made me decide to stop paying for games and start stealing them again. Fuck all this jazz. They stopped caring about their customers a long time ago. I don't know why I continued caring about them.

They can still say "no" after all of that, and once they do you mention local laws about false advertising.
If you don't know or don't have laws preventing that, then you're up shit creek.
If the laws say, "You can take them to court" things get messy for you and you should give up.
If you can get them reported by some relevant/significant administration, then treating to should resolve things nicely for you.`

Notice that line 20,000 below the top? That means 20,000 copies of the game ceased to be owned at some point. What it doesn't factor, is the influx of new ownership. That means the refunds could be over 40,000 realistically, given the sales trends shown on the graph.

>>153524764
There have been a lot of reports of people getting refunds after some back-and-forth. If they won't give him one based on the messages, there's no use messing with. I am assuming this is the guy with 500+ games that was talking above. It's not in his best interest to have a note on his account about threatening legal actual. While that may be fine legally, it's a stupid idea in the real world. People judge you based on bad marks on your account that you can't see. It will affect every future decision they make about him. Of course, if Sea/Cave/Air or missing, it skips to the next. Like Land>Air>Sea. And if you have no Air, you still don't know if it's Air or Sea or Cave or whatnot. Gets sloppy. I never found a planet that had Sea and Cave without Air. But I didn't bother much with collecting them.
>>
I'm not sure why people are bitching about not getting the refund. The policy clearly states that you must have played for less than 2 hours.

Some people got approved anyway, but they were the exception. Then a rumor started on leddit that valve was forgoing the playtime limit for No Man's Sky, but that was bullshit.

A few people got lucky, that's it. Most of the 20,000 refunds you see on those charts are automatic refunds from people with less than 2 hours per game.

If you were hoping to get a free ride for over 2 hours of playtime, you should've just pirated it.
>>
1/2
This post assumes that everything is done on purpose, by design.

No Man's Sky has some seeming contradictions. On one hand:

Why are there space stations in every single star system?
Why are there buildings on every planet?
Why only one race per star system? You'd think the Gek and Korvax would hang out, at least. (I mean outside of the single exception... spoilers)

And on the other hand:

Why do we never see more than two aliens in a room at a time?
Where are the towns, cities, colonies, home planets?

I think the answer can be found in a piece of concept art:

A very large crashed ship... but we never see large crashed ships in the game. We only see the 1-seaters when we're playing though. Isn't that odd?

The answer is in the picture though. Sentinels. That thing is too big and the Sentinels are coming to tear it down.

Here's my theory: at some point, Sentinels decided that intelligent life was not allowed to build large-scale. However, life is still important, so it is allowed to exist in its least-destructive form: as individuals.
>>
>>153530335
2/2
This means that large-scale manufacturing is nearly impossible. New Korvax casings can't be built, and you can't assemble a custom ship look. You have to find these things.

Also... the buildings. Nobody is constructing buildings anymore. What you see out there is deposited by the Sentinels themselves, little habitats for the intelligent life forms of the universe, carefully distributed across the planets to avoid affecting the biome. The space stations were all designed by a single intelligence and seeded across the galaxy so that the intelligent races could resupply and trade resources in a limited, carefully controlled way.

Trade kiosks were built to balance resource distribution and minimize the destruction intelligent species wreak on other life.

From there, the races have been shepherded around the galaxies until planet-fulls of people were scattered a handful at a time. Entire races thrown across galaxies, never able to congregate again.

Sentinels enforced race divisions because of the violence of the past. This is reflected when you attack a large cargo ship - Sentinels come to stop you.

It's just a theory. Thoughts?
>>

ah thanks I didnt know they had a set order, but anyway I ended up leaving the planet...couldnt find it after roaming for almost an hour. I checked the fauna type and it was "intermittent" so I guess some rare asshole only spawns on very specific conditions like storm during the night or w/e.
>>
>>153530430
That would explain why sentinels are patrolling the planets and the buildings, and they appear if you accidentally shoot a freighter.

>The policy clearly states that you must have played for less than 2 hours.

The initial problem wasn't Steam, but it became about them once they decided they'd be the only distro not issuing refunds.

Here is the problem. I can spend 2 hours trying to fix a game before giving up and asking for a refund. I can start the game and forget about it, pause it, whatever, and 2 hours disappears. In NMS's case, it's easy to burn 2 hours before noticing how many things were falsely advertised.

The idea that 2 hours is adequate is antiquated to the days of Sega Genesis. These days it's hard to get past the intro logos in 2 hours. There is a reason that GoG and even fucking Origin have return policies that aren't based on game time. As mentioned, Origin is the 2nd worst, and they're policy is "24-hours, real life time, no questions asked." ORIGIN. That's EA, the spawns of satan themselves.

Steam has the absolute worst return policy of all the similar platforms and retailers. It also violates the law in most of the country's out there, but fighting them about it is an unrealistic goal since it would cost far more than the game.

They are basically sacks of shit that care nothing about their customers and bank on you not caring enough to fight them about their lack of customer support.
>>
>>153530335
>Why only one race per star system?

I have seen this challenged, but almost like it's more of a bug than intended. Particularly with consoles on Gek worlds that give Korvax reputation boosts and such. I have definitely seen a Korvax planet in an otherwise Gek system, though.

>>

>>153530335

Shoe-horning lore into the game to excuse for it being unfinished. That's my thought. If these events you mention were one-off things, I'd allow it. But considering how much of the game is unpolished and unfinished or just plain missing, I'm gonna say that is just another thing to add to the list. The only reason it's not listed is because Sean never promised 2 Gek on the same screen.
>>
>>153534626

You're fighting against logic. That guy played 13 hours. If you've played this game, you know it's possible to play for 13 hours without realizing your were sold something different than what you were promised. The strongest part of the game comes pre-spaceflight.

This whole "b-b-b-but 2 hours" shit is old. Especially given that the policy itself is bullshit. Anyone that says otherwise is lying to themselves. One day, it will bite them in the ass, too.

BREAKING NEWS

You are all wrong, we are all wrong.

The flaws of the game actually fit its story line and if you don't get that you are stupid and a troll.

What a huge fucking disappointment. Sean probably ruined his game designer carrer, everyone will know that he fucking lied to hell and back, it doesn't matter if he's a millionaire and fucking a 6 years old prostitute from Guatemala, people are mad at him and will remember his lies and bullshit.
>>
>>153550573
Desu most of the shit he was talking about were things he wished to implement into the game not guaranteed features. I wish he had made that clear.

I'm not defending him, he fucked up, but I don't believe he lied intentionally, maybe.... spared some truths and implied here and there.

Anyway, he is set for life with 50 mil, he doesn't give a fuck about any of us or our wagecuck opinions. Hookers and blow 24/7.
>>
>>153550768
>he wished to implement into the game not guaranteed features
No, he straight up lied, he never said on twitter "sorry guys some features and rings planets and desert planets and all the shit that happened on e3 and interviews wont make it into the final game". He just went along and still charged 60 fucking dollars for it knowing well that the features he talked about and were shown in the trailers weren't going to be implemented into the final release. Now most of the reddit is sucking his dick saying "UPDATESS WILL FIX IT :) !!11!!!1". He didn't even made that clear, he just hoped no one will notice, which is pretty fucking dumb. He could delay the fucking game, he could say what wasn't going to be in the release version. Yes, I am beyond mad. And yes, I got the pirated gog copy bunny :^)))
>>
>>153236367
people still play this shit?
>>
>>153550926
>He just went along and still charged 60 fucking dollars

All other issues aside. He sold that game for $60. Anyone that's been gaming for a long time will tell you that is not a $60 product. 99.9999999999999% of the content was generated by a computer. And that sounds like an exaggeration, but it's actually the selling point of the whole fucking game - procedural generation.

I challenge you to consider the parts that were man-made. The interface, the code optimization, the story, the overall design, the controls, etc. Don't get me started on the shit-job they did porting/optimizing it for the PC. They all suck. And they make up a tiny portion of the game. That's why 15 people were able to do it.

The sound is pretty much the only redeeming quality of the game. And even then, you're telling me they couldn't find a better exo suit voice? We don't even have interplanetary flight right now, but we have Siri and Cortona and the voices of Magellan and other GPS's. What is that retro roboto shit?

This is not a $60 product. If it delivered what he said it would, .... maybe. But definitely not in its state of release.

No, it's just a bunch of us that missed the refund window who sit around bitching about it.

"We gave 20,000+ refunds, then stopped acknowledging the problem existed because it was costing us too much money"

I am done with Steam. If I can't get it on GoG or otherwise DRM free, I'm just going to steal it. These greedy devs and their "pre-access" and "pre-order bonus" and "modders will fix it" and shitty PC-ports can kiss my ass.

As soon as my shift entered orbit for the first time after spending 25 hours exploring the starting planet, my interest plumetted 90% and I just turned it off without saving. I'm not sure what exactly happened. I was just over it before even being disappointed by the actual space aspect.
>>
>>153569651
>after spending 25 hours exploring the starting planet

well of course you're gonna get bored doing that.

the fun of nms is to gtfo and see more things.

I cant stand staying in one planet unless is beautiful or resource-heavy.

finding (?) spots and grinding

speaking of sentinels, how the hell do you make the big walkers spawn? I've only done it once but can't remember how I did it.

I was near one of those ruins.

Sadly it is. You use money just the buy inventory slots for your exosuit or a new multitool/ship with more slots.
>>
>>153569873
>>the fun of nms is to gtfo and see more things.

Someone said this earlier, but the strongest/most complete aspect of No Man's Sky is the planetary play. The actual space bits are like riding a golf cart between holes of golf. It's sort'a neat, but shallow. And that golf cart only has 3 wheels and you steer it with a blueberry muffin.

I didn't figure that out until after I went back to it a week later. But the point remains that the on-foot play is much more hashed out.
>>
>>153570805
>name shit.

That isn't saved long-term.
>>
>>153570474

They tell you it's up to you to play the way you want, because they never added an actual game. It's a cop out.

Sort'a like The Sims 4. That game is so fucking boring that their General 404's 3 times a day. And that's the fucking Sims franchise. NMS will be the same once the buzz dies down.
>>
>>153571057
Being an active traveler is more rewarding for me, sometimes leaving a planet you actually like and never go back to it, is kinda sad and beautiful.

>is kinda sad

>>
>>153570721
>speaking of sentinels, how the hell do you make the big walkers spawn?

Angry sentinels wear timers on their heads.
If you don't kill them quickly enough they call for reinforcements.
After enough robobirds they start calling the AT-STs.
>>
>>153571495
shut up.

>>153571521
gotta try this.
>>
>>153570968

Agreed. After 10 planets, they all just start repeating themselves with varying degrees of hot/cold toxic/radioactive. All the scenery stays the same. The fact that planets are infinite works against them because their procedural generation engine is not as hot-shit as they think it is. They'd have been better off with 100 hand-made planets. Or at least gone full-Spore and made some geometrically psychotic ones just for flavor.

>>153571036
Money is 100% useless after you have your slots maxed out, which is generally the first thing you grind out. Or should be.

>>153571205
>That isn't saved long-term.

It is. They eventually figured out it was because they were naming stuff while disconnected from the NMS servers so it wasn't syncing up.
