My wife did well for my birthday!

So we just moved into our first house, and money has been tight. I am an old man about birthdays as in, they aren't super important to me. I told her to save her money and just make me a cake.
She really made my day though. I have been pouring over lore the last year and prepping for legion with a vengeance, and all the while she has been tolerating me doing so, but you can tell she is clueless.
So instead of just making me a generic old cake, which would have been fine. She did it up. Her original idea was to print out a bunch of wow stuff, and make it all really nice, but we hadn't purchased a printer, and she couldn't get to a Fed ex in time, so she hand wrote tons of wow stuff to decorate the room. She had all the races and classes written out on note cards and displayed, she had quotes from lore written out and nicely hung about the room. She had some cheesy message about leveling up instead of getting older hung up. (She knows I like cheesy shit). And she decorated the hell out of a cake. Man it turned out ugly, but it was dripping with effort, and that has and always will man more to me than anything else. You could truly feel the love she put into everything. She had no idea what she was writing, but she spent hours googling random wow shot so that I could be surrounded by it. Perfect way to go into legion.

Okay, so I've committed my rotation to perfect muscle memory. Learned about cool down stacking, optimized my gear using Simcraft and analysed each fight for my class. How else can I improve? I can only do roughly 33k dps on most fights in HFC as an unholy DK with ilvl 699 and an ilvl 710 weapon, which tends to place me near the bottom of the charts. Is the legendary ring that important?
