Birthright is okay for a little bit but once you reach the latter end of the game the devs just give up trying and the game goes back to Awakening-style "rout on an open field with a million enemies running at you" where it becomes easier to just throw Ryoma at everything than level a balanced team.

Conquest is overall better, although it still has some pretty shitty maps spliced in there (Kaden's Frolicking Fuckfest being by far the biggest one, Fuga's Wild Ride is cool in theory but can be a drag especially if it's your first time too). When it's good it's awesome though.

Man Revelation is a fucking drag, I regret playing on Hard instead of Lunatic. I picked hard so I could do a run without reclassing and just fucking around picking my favourites but it's been disgustingly easy.

Mr Fuga's wild ride 2 was not nearly as fun or hard as the first one and was just a horrible slog as I fed experience to the few units from that I wanted to keep.

The pacing of receiving units and their levels is absolute garbage. I wanted to focus on units I hadn't used in either run but some of them just join so late and underlevelled. It's going to come down to marrying Flora or Charlotte but Flora joins so goddamn late.

Steel Swords are all right, Paladins, Heroes and Promoted Eliwood and Hector can use them just fine. Lances and Axes are pretty heavy though, you probably only want to use Steel Axes on Hector or a Warrior if you use one, and Steel Lances on Oswin if you use him.
Steels as a whole are a big no-go on small units like Pegasus Knights or Myrmidons, though.
Not that all of this matters too much, enemies are ridiculously weak in FE7.

Robin has very little set personality, which can make it easy to self-insert into. Compare that to Corrin, who has a lot more of his/her own personality and leaves more of their own impression (albeit a largely bad one).

It gives me the impression that Corrin was originally going to be much more of a standalone character (that you still had some control of mind you, think someone like Adam Jensen) but along the way they changed them to a self-insert in order to appease the Awakening fanbase.

Oboro is pretty good. She can deal damage with her decent STR and SPD while being fairly tanky. Giving her a few levels as a Basara (You wanna pick up Rend Heaven anyway if you can spare the heartseal) also does some good things for her RES which is otherwise lacking.

There is a Dragon vein surrounded by archers next to Siegberd, only him can reach it, I can't use Dragon vein with him because he dies in one hit against the archers, so I need to use the Child seal, but this makes 3 Sorcerers spawn, from that point it all goes to shit because Siegberd can't escape in time from them and I have nobody in my team that can take 3 Sorcerers, 5 Archers and a billion Weapon masters. Smug Seamstress has very balanced growths and is the most reliable hoshidan unit that isn't a shellfish. Hinoka has great base stats in BR but as a pegasus knight her physical growths WILL fall off overtime while Oboro overtakes her in HP, STR and DEF. Honkers is hurt greatly by her class growths and by how irrelevant most of her base class skills are. She has enough speed for darting blow to be irrelevant unless you're fighting ninjas with a steel lance and no pairup. Rally Speed is great but it does nothing for her. Worst yet, Warding Blow comes much too late for a unit that already takes 0 damage from magic attacks. Kinishi Knight offers better skills but spays her amazing stat growths. Meanwhile Oboro gains access to Swap utility, Rend Heaven, Quizotic, Spear Mastery and two seal skills. The Seal Skills are going to do a lot of work if you're using Oboro as your frontline. Honkers is a great unit but her potential is limited by her base class. Swapping her to a Spearmaster early is good for balancing her out defensively and she eclipses oboro in availability, base stats and stat growths. Oboro only offers +5% def growth while Hinoka has more of everything else.
