How do I improve as Samus in Sm4sh? I really like the character.

I play on 3DS because no WiiU, sometimes press to jump gives me a long jump instead of a short hop on Samus.

My Zair game is garbage.

I can't ledge trump into reverse charged shot for the life of me, fast enough. And sometimes I get missiles instead. Am I pressing B too fast after flicking?

How do you do the repeating first jab? A into Down into A over and over?

Tell me your best Samus strats. I've only been playing Smash for 2 years, and my experience is Smash 4 and Project M, so anything helps.

I'd just like to improve for local and online play. Especially online since that's where I'm destroyed the most. Like literally shit on. And it just isn't input lag. I'm aware that I suck. Thanks in advance.

Don't use tap jump, go into training mode and get used to do shorthops

You will get better with time, maybe you just need to figure out the timing to use it.

For any reverse move: first press the action button then the direction
Again: exercise this, you won't be able to do it consistently on your first attempts

In my experience you will improve the more you go to locals, of course same goes for online matches but keep in mind online will always feel slightly different from offline depending on the connection

Don't get discouraged, the more you play the better you will become.
I suggest you save replays of matches where you got destroyed so you can figure out your bad habits.

Maybe upload them on youtube or webm them if you have the option and post it here, we might be able to help figure out your flaws

I've already been learning how to not roll as often unless I'm in deep shit.

I also have a lot of trouble air dodging online. Is it input lag? How many frames of lag are generally in an online match? Does it just vary?

Spacing is extremely important, even more with low tier characters

Samus has the worst roll in game, you are better off not relying on it. Powershield and maybe spotdodge are better options.

Well keep in mind that the 3ds has no option of cable internet, you rely on wireless lan which adds lag by default, this is why most wii u players stick with the wii u version

Sure, when I play online again I'll get the replay. Perhaps I'm air dodging too late. A few weeks ago I began noticing that I tended to DI towards the opponent, for some dumb reason. I don't now and just try to find the stage, but my opponent normally finds me when I'm trying to fast fall and air dodge out of the way. So maybe there are things I'm doing that I'm not aware that's getting me killed.

real quick, i have a list of complaints for melee that are legitimate and make me not want to play the game in favor of smash 4 and PM

Maps imo don't need to be and generally shouldn't just be symmetrical blobs to remain balanced. The problem is a lot of Sm4sh maps have actively disruptive elements that add too much randomness to the strategy. Ridley and the Dark Lord, for example, and other random stage hazards are what should get a stage banned, not just things being non-static.

Hey, are the 3DS servers fucked up or what?
For the past week I've been getting communication errors when trying to connect online whether I try in the afternoon, evening, or after midnight.
I've reset my router and modem, then stood next to it while I reset and reestablished the connection setting on my DS, got through the connection test in seven seconds with 3 solid bars, and still end up waiting a minute on the Communicating with the server box while the logo freezes and finally gives up and lets go.

For all I know somehow the Wifi capabilities of my 3DS crapped out or some dumb ass reason or what. I return to the shoddy college internet in two days and I'll never get to smash online for months likely...

Melee likes: Physics that lend itself towards faster gameplay, technical, freeform movement, lots of global movement options, lots of the advanced tech, the offstage game, leeway for many types of playstyle for most characters
Dislikes: Crouch cancelling, ledge get-up options still counting as hogging the ledge (eg, the second part of Marths getup where he is onstage but still in the animation so it counts as him occupying the ledge), poor balance (though this aspect is widely overexaggerated, its still not well balanced)

Smash 4 likes: Decently balanced, RAR, when you run and fall off the stage/platform you start running again when you land if youre still holding the stick, some characters have basically freeform combos like Mario, Luigi, and Sheik

I've never been more frustrated. This Samus just kept rolling behind me, and just rolling on general, and I literally could never punish it because they would immediately side tilt out of shield. Sometimes I could do nothing but power shield because they were an aggressive player that was completely unaware of the grab button and would use raw Up B's that rarely worked if the game didn't give me my air dodge, again, because of the input lag. I know I'm not very great at this game. But I was insulted by being beat by this Samus that didn't know what they were doing at all, and was always clean off roll.
Maybe I should just stop playing if I'm going to complain like this.

Nah there's nothing wrong with a little vent. Talking out your problems is a great way to solve them. Just keep playing better players. You will naturally learn how to beat out shitters like that.

He also requires amazing knowledge on spacing, stage control and exploiting bad habits. So technicality will get you no where if you don't know the fundamentals.
