Playing with guns is really boring in F2 for me. No ammo, everything kills you, pistol and SMG don't do damage. Unless you go to NCR and do the steal thing.

By the time you have a power fist and can punch four times in a row, nothing can really stand in your way anyway. It's the earlier parts of the game where everything outnumbers you, hits harder than you, and can usually tank better than you.

What's up? I'm working on a Legion Centurion Armor retexture.

Bear in mind it won't be my textures. The Centurion armor uses textures from a lot of different armor and clothing, sadly, they are all combined in one single texture, so it doesn't take advantage of texture replacers for other armor.

So what I'm doing is manually replacing the different bits of the Centurion armor texture with other excellent retextures:

- Combat Armor by CaBaL
- Book of Steel (T-45d Power Armor) by CaBaL
- ADAM (Ranger Patrol Armor) by EmeraldReign Weijiesen and VT08
- Fallout 3 Hirezd (Super Mutants) by EmeraldReign
- Wasteland Clothing Hires Retexture (Leather Armor) by Macintroll

Combat can be fairly punishing. Guns seem to do more damage than they used to. A good teammate can make all the difference, though; they're a lot more useful than I found the ones in Fallout 2.

I'm not sexist in anyway, in fact I'm quite the opposite, but I just can't get into playing female characters at all on the pretense that it's not realistic.

I read up on nukapedia long ago that Centurion armor was made up of different armor parts. So I looked up every single armor texture (Ranger Patrol, Combat Armor, T-45d Armor, Super Mutant armor) and copy and pasted the pieces that matched that which the Centurion armor used.

I used plenty of hi res retextures, sadly, I had to upscale the entire image to 4096x4096 because CaBaL's were very high quality. This meant that I needed to upscale some lower quality textures as well (basically everything not made by him).

Tools used were Polygonal Lasso tool (to cut and paste) and I used the Clone Stamp tool to fill some empty areas.

I could have, the problem is that the textures are actually smaller in the Centurion armor.

Say the pauldron is 4K in CaBaL's. But while the complete armor texture in the Centurion is 2K, the actual size of the pauldron is even smaller. And, really, the big ass pauldron is one of the most noticeable things about the armor, and I felt it was worth it to upscale everything.

That might actually be it. The random encounters are usually the worst because there's no cover, your enemies are usually lined up like a firing squad (and target you first), and you have no chance to prepare. 10 luck probably helps cut out most of those.

It's not that. Enemies will tend to focus fire on you first by default, simply because the Fallout developers assumed your character will always be the most dangerous one in the room. If they get significantly more damaged by a different character, then they'll change targets, but if you don't want to start a fight with your turn followed by a half-dozen enemies all riddling you with bullets, you'll have to spend your first turn cowering while your companion opens fire to take the heat off of you.

Obviously, this gets to be less of an issue later on when you have ways to protect yourself, but at the start of the game these situations can end up with you getting torn apart in the first couple of turns.
