I just recently got a 3DS as my first handheld and grabbed Fates sure is weird not playing FE emulated with a keyboard and why are batteries so annoying?

Meticulously got 75% of the way through a chapter, underestimated an enemy who managed to eke out a kill and forced me to reset. Play through all of it again keeping it in mind, get 99% of the way through, and my 3DS dies. I was seriously just setting up the final hits on the last enemy for maximum support/xp-gain and had it down to ~10 health. If the battery lasted 2 minutes longer I'd have been able to save, instead I have to do the whole thing for a third time. Fuck me.

Stats; base stats, growths, weapon ranks. When dealing in growths, it is assumed the unit is at their average for that level. Good base stats>good growths, although obviously both are preferred.

Grinding; not considered, and frankly if a unit needs grinding to become effective then they're ranking low on this list either way.

Children; not considered due to the variables in their recruitment (they would all be F tier anyways).

Performance over the whole game is considered as to judge how a unit performs from start to end. However, if a unit starts good but gradually becomes worse, this will be weighed against them less than a unit that starts bad but becomes good.

Availability; a unit that is fantastic but only usable for a small stretch of the game will generally weigh worse against a unit that isn't quite as good but around for much longer. Obviously the fantastic unit will likely rank better than a bad unit, however.

Recruitment; not weighed against a unit too much, but a unit that has obtuse recruitment requirements will be noted. Similarly, things a unit does prior to becoming playable (IE NPC Ryoma in the prologue) will not weigh.

Offense vs defense; offense is the more important of the two, but only to a point since it also only needs to reach a certain plateau to gain maximum effectiveness. Struggling in either category will be weighed against a unit, but poor offense will generally weigh more than poor defense.

Utility; flight, Shelter, Sing, Staffing, Pairup stats, basically anything outside of combat. For many units, utility is a much bigger factor in tiering them than offense/defense.

Resource expenditure; cost-effectivenes is considered (if I use this here, what can I not do in another area down the road). EXP is also considered a resource in certain contexts. If a unit is judged to use a resource the best, taking that resource will be weighed against them less than a unit who is less effective with it.
