If you get Solas, he grants you the ability to cast a few specific spells with his aid (including a self-heal spell). If you do the easy quest (repeatable) for the witch in the first town just down the mountain, you get four prize options, one of which is a Twisted Staff which, if equipped, will grant you the ability to cast the Brambles spell.

So far, the only spells that seem worthwhile for combat damage are the Brambles and Ice Bullet spell. Mend Wounds is alright for obvious reasons.

Unless there are more spells I haven't been able to unlock/access yet.

When will that Mystical Tome key item give us spells? When will ANY of our special or key items do anything?

The encounters we have so far are good, but I need more substance in the actual game.

Actually the reason I had asked if any real work had been done on any of the lore/core plot in the first place.

I've been tossing around a draft for a fortune teller that has a number of strange trinkets in her hovel that were meant to give a bit of fluff. One of those items was to be a skull up on a shelf. If the player chooses to ask about it, it's revealed via some magic to be an undead remnant of the player's former army who would be able to tell them about what happened in the years following the PC's disappearance. Real hangup was finding any of the lore so as to make sure I didn't contradict anybody obviously to save some headaches later on.

A patch of shade in a shadow is redundant, and also feels clunky linguistically. By simplifying and distilling it into the intent, I suggested the second statement which I feel is much clearer and a more attractive piece of text.

You don't have to agree, but all of my suggestions had, in my opinion, good linguistic reasons for them. And I'm willing to provide insight into why.

For the plains, I think it would be a good idea to put the PC in the middle of a battefield and make him fight against everyone as a battle royal to test the battle script.
The countryside is complicated. The idea behind it was a coalition of human kingdoms and fae that was destroyed, leaving only the fae living in the ruins, with Firma being one of the farm towns that sustained the sustained the kingdom. I'd like to see evil fae making a mockery of the ruined kingdoms or playing their own games with the PC.

Alright, finished with Monkey Girl from what I could see so far. I was unsure how to make my edits interact with other existing edit suggestions, but I think I found a way to make it more clear by incorporating their edit into mine. Some of the already proposed edits caused grammatical incongruities.

There were also some inconsistencies in tense for which I've suggested fixes. That one took longer than the previous, but it's alright.

Well, about the PC, the intro states that the PC is "The Human Champion". However, the figure of the "Human Champion" appears as a direct counterpart of the "Demon Lord", as a paragon of humanity and the greatest of all humans. The thing is, since a continent and a half were wiped out by demons, the remaining humans wanted someone to save them and thus, almost every human that was able to fight back against the demons was labeled as a "Human Champion". As many of the exploits of the "Human Champion" were made by many different people, each exploit helped mystify the figure of the PC until it became a legend.
The true Human Champion, as in "the one human that defeated the Demon Lord", was known for three things that could be used for lore tidbits until I finish writing a doc with the lore. First, the PC was an excellent tactician with a penchant for guerrilla warfare, always leading a group of close followers. Second, the PC was an accomplished battle mage focused on rune magic, capable of infusing its weapon with spells. Third, the PC was from Erebus and somehow survived the massacre of the Demon Lord.
Now, I really like the books, and I need to discuss them sooner or later.

Actually, a lot of what you provided above is kind of useful as a kicking off point.

I've been writing this particular encounter to be a very early game one, so as to get the player started with some filling in of the blanks.

My biggest questions involve what happened on the larger scale immediately after the fall of Menhit in and around Beorg, as well as the surrounding forest and plains.

Was there much of the human force left?
Did many of the demons survive?
What did the surviving armies do following the loss of their respective commands?
Was there much in the way of anti-monster progroms in the years following the Champion vanishing?
Were there any major political events such as the rise of any new empires in the ensuing period?

As it is, I've got a bit of a Twilight: 2000-esque plot frame for the skull soldier, just need some useful events and information to give the player.
