What's your favorite Fallout game, /cfog/?

2nd or New Vegas

Yeah it's really strange, I've tried with those replacers activated and deactivated but it's the same either way. When I have any weapon equipped it's just stuck pointed to the left, then if I aim in it comes up and blocks half the screen.

I have a feeling most people here will say 2 or New Vegas.

I'm gonna go with New Vegas.

>New Vegas, yourself?
Actually, my favorite is _1, and it's only really because I really, REALLY like the Master. I think he's a really interesting villain and he's probably my favorite character in the Fallout universe.
I think 2 is actually the better game, and the best overall Fallout game. Fallout 2 has so much to do and so much content it's insane. Hell, when I played through it last month I missed whole locations, and did nothing in New Reno. The game has so much to offer.
>>
Is Mojave Outpost the only NCR location with free beds, not in an infirmary?

I think the tents in Camp Golf have usable ones.
>>

New Vegas, but the best is Fallout 1.

Also, according to Reddit, spooky skeletons are the soul of Fallout.

But they also like including them in other games, even as creatures in Elder Scrolls. I don't think there isn't a Bethesda game that doesn't have skeletons as props or creatures.

man that dead money horror overhaul was fun
>>
>152095526
I'd sacrifice Honest Hearts or Dead Money for a postgame DLC that revamped the Mojave depending on your ending. Besides adding extra dialogue I couldn't imagine it even being that hard - replace losing factions with winning factions, move and remove some characters, maybe alter the design of the Strip a bit and change some locations to be either more or less populated, or deserted or burnt down or whatever. Instant fail any quests that conflict with the result of the power struggle, tweak the ones that could possibly be given by a different faction member.

I imagine it'd be easier than creating a whole new map and set of assets and everything else that comes with the DLCs Obsidian produced.

From what I gathered via the change log,
>Legion favored "ending" doesn't exist. You help them a bit before siding with Joshua.
>Joshua leads a tribe called "The Burned Men" who all wear his iconic mask. Joshua incidentally doesn't wear the mask.
>White Legs are now the Bloodstones.
>Daniel, Follows Chalk and the rest of the cast are not present.
>Hell even the Sorrows and Dead Horses are not present.
>Joshua has a new voice, and it is fucking awful.
>>
>>152137879
Wait you can't even side with the Legion? That was the single reason I thought about checking this out. Guess it's back to Chaos in Zion whenever I do a Legion run.

>Ah Bethesda, environmental storytelling geniuses.

>50 brownie points awarded for this post

>>
>>152138296
I hate to be that guy, but some if it, especially in Morrowind and Oblivion, is actually really nice. It makes areas stand out because you remember the little story the zone had. Lost Boy Cavern in Oblivion springs to mind at how well they do these "mini" stories.

That being said, Bethesda cannot write a main story or quests for shit, and certainly don't get what Fallout is. Let them piss all over TES all they want because that is their baby, but leave Fallout alone.
>>
haha eat shit daniel
>>
>>152137576
HH isn't complete? I though all the NV DLCs were finished as intended, unlike the base game. What else did they plan to include?

>>152137879
Why would they change so much? Is it supposed to add to the base DLC or be totally new? Because "Reborn" sounds more like a revamp than an overhaul.

>>152138296
I do like Bethesda's environmental storytelling, it really does add that little bit more to some potentially boring locations. Would have helped NV a lot imo, probably the only thing Obsidian could have learned from Bethesda.
Shame there's none of it in FOR, typical that they'd ignore the one thing they did right.
>>
>>152133438
Eh, I'm pretty damn sure you can find an hour per day to spend on modding (I mean, you do have time to browse 4chan :^)). After all, you are doing this for yourself, so it really doesn't matter when you are finished.
As for knowledge, just get yourself GECK and look at how devs did it/read the wiki.
>>
>>152138920
Helping Daniel is the worst choice.
>Dead Horses still get fucked up.
>White Legs become weak, allowing for the 80s to walk into Zion become the next big powerful tribe.
>80s are arguably more powerful and larger than the White Legs and they already hate the NCR, making them prime choices for Legion recruitment
>Trading caravans are less safe than they were before because now they lack Graham's protection in Zion
>Even Daniel himself is not entirely satisfied

Typing that I wish there was more stuff on the 80s tribe, even if a modder decided to make their armor. Them and the Iron Lines I'd like to see make a game appearance.
>>
>>152139257
Yeah, don't forget that each of his ending ends up bad for him like dreaming about Zion, getting nightmares about Sorrows being bloodlusted, etc.
>>
>>152138570
Even 3 had some nice stuff in that vein, like finding the Keller family tapes or those logs from the Canterbury Commons search party. I still remember tracking down the source to a distress signal from a family with an injured kid and when you reach their bunker they're already skeletals.

But then they pull that same trick a bunch in 4 and it just loses any impact. They really amped up the skeleton death scenes in 4 in general.
>>
>>152138945
JSawyer admitted HH was rushed, but nothing has been disclosed officially regarding what was going to be added. The lack of pro Legion ending stands out the most.

And Reborn is a complete revamp, meaning the original HH is disabled whilst you have the mod installed. All the items are carried over into the mod, but are used by different people. I think some mormon trader has Follow Chalks' hat.
>>
>>152139360
I whole heartedly endorse TTW because F3 did have some elements which are really good and are akin to what Fallout actually is. It's a shame it's like finding a diamond in sewage plant.

And by good elements, I mean The Pitt and Point Lookout. The rest of the DLC and vanilla game is garbage.
>>
>>152139575
What are mods that you would recommend for the FO3 portion of TTW?

I've been using That Middle-Aged Guy in place of Lone Courier to see the differences in it.

I really enjoy the pitt.
Grey morale, good setting, scavenger hunt sidequest. 10/10
Point Lookout was too walking from place to place heavy for me but I didn't hate it, ghoul was great.
I like Operation Anchorage it's really fun at low levels especially with low skills.
Mothership Zeta was completely out of place but it's kind of nice as an "easter egg" setting if a bit long and with too many over powered items.
Broken Steel is lame. "Hey guys lets storm this Enclave facility and just bum rush the entire fucking thing instead of using any fucking tactics at all."
At least the final place lets you do it solo even if it has ANOTHER Good/Evil ending with no neutral or morale grey.
Main Story is awful.

Anyway, after a huge gap in playing fallout games I decided to replay FO3 using TTW.
It fixes a whole heap of issues I had with gameplay due to NV stuff but the setting/pacing is just still rather bad.
Quit my character after getting dad back and made a new character starting in NV.
NV low level is immediately fun and better paced.
I don't know what it was exactly but the DT on DC enemies just turned them into pure bullet sponges.
Brutes came out at level 5 and I had masters from level 10.
That felt wrong, something in TTW must be fucky.
I'm just rambling but I'm a little bored because my game keeps freezing on load screens.
>>
>>152139797
Middle Aged Guy? I use Lone Courier for my TTW runs because the extra fourth dialogue cracks me up. I currently use:

>WMX for TTW: weapon mods for F3 weapons
>Lone Courier
>Most of the TTW optional plugins like DC reputations
>Capital Wasteland Recipes: Also turns all the prop barbecue stoves into recipe crafting stations
And this http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58139/? which is honestly one of the best armor mods I have seen on the nexus. Shame the guy has never made a version without TTW. It adds variety to all the raiders and Fiends.
>>
>>152113203

Nuka World seems like it could be a really cool location....but knowing Bethesda it's full of shit and has a retarded story
>>
>>152140016
Two words. Level Scaling.

You forget that TTW isn't "done" yet, and so they haven't adjusted each area to fit a certain level zone like FNV is. The higher level you get the more bullet spongey each enemy gets. Super Mutants are especially bad at this, but MCM can edit that out.

Honestly Anchorage was the most fun of the shit DLCs thanks to TTW. Ironsights and challenges make it seem less bad.

And TTW is going to fucking your loading screens. You are running two gamebryo games at once after all. I tend to turn off all the bloat NV mods off until I get to the Mojave when I run TTW.
>>
>>152140252
>Super Mutants are especially bad at this, but MCM can edit that out.
That's the thing though, I had that setting on to make them weaker.
>>
>>152140098
Massive problem with Bethesda story telling.
Cool locations are shit if they are inconsistent with everything else. The Oasis, Little Lamplight, Megaton etc all stand out because they were designed to be "quirky and unique!", but it doesn't make sense in the grand scheme of things.

Then again, nothing is consistent regarding F3/F4 and Fallout lore.
>>
>Robot! Let me pass!

The only failed skill check I always attempt anyway
>>
>>152140036
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/22070/?

Some of the lines in here I prefer to Lone Courier, others I dislike.

The armor looks kind of neat. I'll have to try it out eventually. I'm pretty sure I've got everything else you listed, but as I said, I'm currently using Middle-Aged Guy in place of Lone Courier.

One of the mods I never leave TTW without is Enclave Improvement Project, which gives you the choice to join the Enclave and remove Brotherhood.

I'm surprised people here are open to FO3 discussion. As bad as it was overall, like anon said, there are some good points to it like Pitt and Lookout.

>>152140252
I recently got through Anchorage with JSawyer and some of Project Nevada. It wasn't so bad, but it's still Anchorage.

>>152140395
What does the Securitron respond with? I saw the option but decided not to pick it.
>>
>>152140332
Strange. I think it's just down to TTW not being finished.

I was routing around in the TTW files in order to make the Mothership Zeta companion costumes wearable for the player, and I found an entirely cut train station made for the CW area. It's pretty much done only the doors are not connected to any in game location.
>>
>>152140437

>>
>>152140437
F3 is the bastard child than /cfog/ and /fog/ never discuss. Don't get me wrong, it's terrible, but not Fallout 4 terrible. I can actually play F3 with TTW of course without throwing up.

The Pitt and Point Lookout are untapped resources and under appreciated gems. A little rough around the edges I grant you, but I'd argue they are on par with Lonesome Road in terms of quality.

Plus the fanfic I've been writing heavily involves elements from The Pitt
>>
>>152140628

The stories of the Pitt and Point Lookout were actually better than what Lonesome Road had to offer. And I say this as someone who quite likes LR (mostly because the Divide is a cool location)

>JSawyer admitted HH was rushed, but nothing has been disclosed officially regarding what was going to be added.
That's because nothing really was supposed to. Sawyer oversaw HH development, Sawyer was aware of how little time and resources they have so he set the scope of the DLCs to be very low. That's why it's so disappointing for some people - there are no big talky quests with lots of dialogue and choices, because those are hard to implement and test. You just get a neat environment to explore, and some quests, most of which are pretty filler-ish. It's still enjoyable, though.

"Orphaned and sold into slavery, he emerges a fearsome warrior. And revenge is never far from his mind."

I'm thinking his tribe was destroyed by some faction or maybe just anonymous raiders. I'd imagine he would side with the Legion to conquer the Mojave. Thoughts?

Would he use chems to enhance is combat capabilities? Or completely leave chems out of his system on principle? Would he use some small, close-combat arms like shotguns (I'm thinking the Dinner Bell out of respect/love for Red Lucy once he does that quest)?

I'm trying to get Berserker on my character in Fallout 2, so I killed everybody in Klamath (except for the children, who all have broken legs from the combat).

And even though that should've been enough people for me to get it, it doesn't show up. Do you have to have negative karma first or something? I still have like 75 or so.

I would have figured one would have a lot more karma drop if you went around slaughtering entire towns, but I guess not.
>>
>>152199128
Do you have Killap's Unofficial Patch?
And how many people did you kill in Klamath? Is it at least 25?
>>
>>152199768
I do, and I would have thought so, but I melted most of them with plasma pistol crits, so it's a little hard to tell.

Maybe I'll just wipe out Modoc & the ghost farm, that should be more than enough.

Gotta do them quests first, though.

Why howdy there folks, it's everyone favorite clown.....The Joker! Hahahaha....now,now I know what you are thinking.
"But Joker, what happened to Batman?"
Well kids, I am just taking an extended vacation from Gotham and am now spreading Chaos among the Mojave Wasteland! Sigh Until some motherfucker shot me in the head for a chip I picked up....Well kids, now it's time to listen to some good ol' fashioned whack-a-mole!
A robot named Victor picked me up from the grave that bloke put me in, and I was healed by some old dude. I was also in my underwear when he healed me, as my so-called "killers" made off with the rest of my gear..(I'm going to "thank" them for that one..) He made me take on of those breath tests, and this came up.
S:4 P:6 E:4 C:6 I:7 A:6 L:7
I have no clue what that means, and it wasn't long before he dragged me to ask a couple of questions to see if "everything was still a knockin". I was getting mighty sick of all this, and I just answered randomly, and you can bet 5 bucks that his reactions were more fun than the actual tests! After that, this came up:
Tagged Skills: Science, Speech, Explosives Traits: Small Frame, Wild Wasteland(For vanilla)
Now that everything was all fine and dandy, the good doc gave me a dress to wear as well as some weapons, and oh boy was I ever thankful for that! He also directed me to someone named Sunny Smiles for some shooting lessons. I already know how to shoot, but the interesting part came after I proved that, as she talked about some critters haunting the wells of the town. I decided it would be good practice and fun, and so I decided to take her up on that offer. Long story short, they ended up dead and I saved some girl's life which ended up in me gaining some net points among the community.

After that, Sunny said that I should hit up with the bartender, so i head on over to the bar and talk to some stuffy old guy named Pete. He starts explaining crap and blah blah blah about one guy called NCR and another band called the Legion. Apparently they both want control of a dam for resources.....Hmmmmm....this gives me an idea, it isn't like I haven't dealt with another bunch of schemers, have I Bats? We have so many wonderful stories after all...
In the bar, there was one gangster threatening the Bar Lady, and so I did what I do best, kill as soon as he finished talking. Bar Lady said that I was stirring up trouble, since his friends will be coming along for revenge. I asked why bother coming at all, and she talked about some coward named Ringo and his troubles. I, like the good natured man I was, decided to meet up with Ringo and sign up to kill those gangsters.
I was not surprised when he showed a gun in my face after I went in, and I simply said that if he was gonna shoot, he better NOT miss....Sigh One of the downsides of traveling is that no one fears you anymore. Just like I guessed, he didn't shoot, and I offered myself up for some help in exchange for some local currency....which turned up to be fucking soda caps....I like this place.
I managed to gather up Ol Pete's explosives, Sunny Smiles, Bar Lady and her goons, and my old doc! I also stole guns, ammo, armour, and medicine from Chet, Bar Lady, and doc. Chet got mad, and I had to shoot him in self-defence. Word got around, but apparently the guy was hated a bit, so I didn't get that much in trouble.

I also did an art projects with the corpses of today's battle!

Th-th-that's all f-folks!
Unless you want more? ;)

Encounter 3: Lost Enclave Patrol (Unique/LK 8/Outdoorsman 100+) - Six Enclavers humorously lost in northern Utah. One wears a suit of Enclave Combat Armor similar to Arcade Gannon's (CNPC). The others wear bits and pieces of leather armor or metal armor. They are carrying mixed and matched weapons and a lot of broken tech. The leader (in ECA) will approach the PC and ask him or her if he or she knows the way to the MacArthur Army Base. If the PC is at all hostile or "weird" to the Enclavers, they will become defensive and will fight back. If the PC is helpful, the Enclaver will give the PC some "junk" (broken down weapon parts), and head out. Insert comedic banter between confused team members about whether they are in Utah, Colorado, or Kansas, and you have comedy gold!

OVERVIEW
Tibbets is a cold, sterile, steel-walled automated prison facility, run by technology so ancient it dates back
to the years before the Great War - nearly two hundred years ago. It is a facility designed to hold and protect some of the world's most dangerous criminals (military and otherwise) before the war, and now the players are trapped deep inside its cell blocks, desperate to get out. They'll have to fight damaged and crazed robots inside and out, as well as deal with the split-personality machine intelligence within the prison, ULYSSES.
Not only is Tibbets where the players start Fallout 3, they will find themselves returning here over the course of the game, slowly unlocking more and more sections of the prison. As a result, the experience point totals and the strength of the opponents the players face will vary depending on when and where they leave or enter the prison.

This one's Avellone.
>>
>>152219076
Tibbets, cont.

The goal of this area is initially to escape.
The secondary goal of this area, once you've escaped, is to fight your way back in.
The third goal of this area, once you've fought your way back in, is to make your way to the computer core and confront or destroy ULYSSES. When this occurs, the players will have finished two thirds of the game, and be ready to travel to the next third of the game.
>>
>>152219191
Overview finale.

The monsters to be fought in this area are robots in various stages of disrepair (during the initial escape, the players will fight damaged robots - when they return, many of the robots will be repaired and much tougher). Also, the player will find himself interacting with (and no doubt fighting) some of the escaped prisoners as well, who are either hardcore criminals or simply driven mad by confinement.
The playtime in the prison is an estimated 4 to 5 hours, total. It is intended the player spend no more than an hour escaping (for demo purposes), then when they return, they can explore more and more of the prison, slowly unlocking Tibbets's secrets.
>>
>>152219304
Some background.

AREA BACKGROUND
Tibbets is a maximum security automated prison run by a "divided" computer core, ULYSSES, which itself is a prisoner in the facility, attempting to escape East and return home - just like the players. The irony!
Tibbets prison has its roots in the Tibbets of today. It was always a military prison, holding some of the United States' most dangerous criminals - including the players. Over time, the prison became more advanced, utilizing robotic wardens and utility robots to maintain the structure, especially as the war with China in the 2070s and the annexation of Canada began to drain personnel from the United States. It was designed to hold 636 prisoners at full capacity. At the beginning of Fallout 3, it holds much more than that - but when the dust and ash settles after the catastrophic attack at the prison, there will be enough prisoners running from the shattered prison walls to pose a threat to the wasteland.
It was actually used as primitive isolation studies before the Vaults were established, except the subjects were prisoners, especially CODE'd to see if they could withstand the rigors of isolation for protracted periods of time. This was the time when the recycling systems and water purification systems were tested before using them in the Safehouse Project - any prisoners harmed during the procedure were tended to - not dystopian style.
In 2040, it was commandeered by the United States government in association with Vault-Tec and Poseidon Oil to tie into their Safehouse Project.

Actual real-life info from Tibbet Prison, Kansas.

The United States Penitentiary (USP), Tibbets is located on 1,583 square acres with 22.8 inside the penitentiary walls. It is an all-male high security level facility committed to carrying out the judgments of the Federal Courts. It provides a safe, secure and humane environment for those offenders committed to its custody. Like all Bureau facilities, Tibbets adheres to a balanced philosophy that recognizes that punishment, deterrence, and incapacitation are all valid purposes of confinement. Opportunities for positive change are provided through work, education, training, and counseling for inmates motivated toward self- improvement.
The USP Tibbets came into existence through an act of Congress in 1895. Inmates from the military prison at Fort Tibbets were used in the early construction and were marched 3 1⁄2 miles to the site daily, returning to the prison at the Fort at night. This continued until February 1903 when the first 418 inmates to occupy the prison site were moved into what now serves as a laundry building. Prisoners and supplies for the prison were handled via a rail line that passed through the prison to unload and load cargo.
In 1906, all federal prisoners from Fort Tibbets were housed in the new institution and the prison at Fort Tibbets was returned to the War Department. A milestone in the new penitentiaries' construction was reached in 1926 with the final placement of the dome overhead the rotunda - from which the penitentiary derives its famous nickname - "The Big Top.

Pseudo-history

On 5 April 2040, the Secretary of the Army made the decision to build a new Disciplinary Barracks, with a capacity for 456 inmates. A cost ceiling of $363 million in allocated construction dollars was set. The target budget year for funding this project was fiscal year 2041. Construction began in the Fall of 2042, with completion projected for the Fall of the year 2045.
In July 2042, discussions with Vault-Tec to determine space and functional requirements for the new facility. On 6 September 2042, the Combined Arms Center Commander was given a decision brief of the USDB project, and selected one of three design options for further development. He also requested the Corps of Engineers to research an alternate location for the placement of this facility, since the geological evaluation of the site adjacent to the Trustee Unit revealed unsuitable subsurface conditions. Discussions involving the possible movement of the prison and relocation projects were also discussed, leading to the three-rail system that exists today.

Generic Location overview, courtesy of Mr Avellone.

LOCATIONS
The Locations section of the document will probably be a series of entries, each one describing each location within the area. Designers will determine what format and procedure works best for them. Each location section should probably cover the following information, however:
• A quick series of bookmarks for each location and sub-location described in the document so the players can just jump to it.
• The physical aspects of the locations, so artists can get a feel for the area's art requirements.
• The feel and tone of the area for audio. Include any description you think would help them get a better handle on the area. Emote if necessary. Do interpretative dance. I don't fucking care, but don't omit important details.
• The area's purpose.
• The major characters you expect to be found in the location.
• Any adversaries you expect to be encountered in the location.
• A brief description of quests likely to be found in the area.
>>
>>152220153
Should I keep going with this?

LOCATION CHECKLIST
Each area document will also have a Location Checklist.
In Fallout 3, we need to make sure that each character type has an equally enjoyable role-playing experience in each location (evil characters and stupid characters are usually given the short end of the stick; the rewards for these types of characters are usually unbalanced when compared to the goody-two- shoes characters). No more!
In addition, there were a few skills and statistics in Fallout 1 and 2 that didn't see enough use by the designers. As an example, Charisma wasn’t nearly as useful as most of the other statistics in Fallout 1, and the Doctor Skill was as useless as a third thumb in both Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. If we take care to see that each stat and skill can be used effectively design-wise in each location in the game, then I think these stats can gain back some of the ground they've lost over the past few games. That's what the location checklist is for.
>>
>>152220316
More on Locations. Gamedev 101 stuff here.

The location checklist is a glorified grocery list, covering a number of the role-playing possibilities for each “kind” of character the player may have chosen (Stealth Boy, Science Boy, Combat Boy, Charisma Boy). This checklist is intended to insure each kind of character has something cool to do in each location, and that the rewards and role-playing experiences for each location are balanced whether the player is good or evil, stupid or smart, a combat monster or a science guy.
Designers don’t have to make sure that each entry is checked off for each location – as long as they make up for it in another of their locations in the game. The exception to this rule is for early areas of the game, since those are the first areas the players will encounter, and I want their character to have a rich role- playing experience all-around right from the start. (If the player went through three early areas, and his Doctor skill isn't used once, then he's going to be sorry he took it.)
>>
>>152220316
Sure, I'll likely read the posts later on.

This next section is a huge checklist of examples for role playing options. I'll be picking out my favourites. The setting is Podunk, Colorado, an inbred mining town.

Evil Karma Character

Challenge:

(Male) Provide new generic material for town.

Reward:

Accept cash payment and one female slave as beast of labor.
>>
>>152221174
Cont.

Low Reputation Character

Challenge:

If the player goes to sleep in the boarding house in Podunk, he will get a special encounter of some of the locals coming to attack him while he's asleep.

Reward:

You can use this information to blackmail the mayor if you are evil, or you can discover when you speak to the mayor that he's glad you took care of the "unsavory elements" in the town.

High Reputation Character

Challenge:

An elderly woman gives the player a deed to some land on the outskirts of town, asking him to use it to make the world a better place.

Reward:

Free land. You can either sell it if evil, or give it to some refugees or Good Samaritans in Salt Lake City. There may even be a gold mine on the land, or oil. Who knows?
>>
>>152221393
Stupid Character

Challenge:

Can speak to one of the dumb ore haulers and figure out the rudiments of machine language; can take the black box out of the hauler and bring it along with him to put into a robot and make a new ally.

Reward:

Gain Perk: Visual Standard to allow him to communicate with Class-A hauler machines, gain potential “black box companion.”

Ghoul

Challenge:

Ghouls are hated in Podunk because of the tribes of ghoul cannibals on the wastes that hunt the merchant caravans to and from the city.

Reward:

If a ghoul kills five of his cannibalistic brothers, then the prejudice level will go down. There may also be a section of the mine filled with uranium that only a ghoul can get close to.
>>
>>152221602
Super Mutant

Challenge:

Super Mutants are not liked or trusted in Podunk.

Reward:

One of the older miners comes from Broken Hills, and he will be somewhat friendly with a super mutant, offering to modify a suit of leather armor and make it super mutant size if a super mutant brings him three normal (human-sized) leather armors.

Now we move on to the next document, Denver. By S. Reynolds.

Denver is a pre-War city that was being rebuilt when the War started; prisoners on work release salvage what they can from the city while evading huge packs of hungry dogs that roam the streets.
The city consists of 3-4 large maps, with 10-15 smaller maps or floorplans (covering various buildings and high-rise floors). The salvagers are about 20 NCR former prisoners on a special work release program, salvaging stuff for NCR in exchange for their eventual freedom. The dogs are the now-feral descendents of local pets and specially-bred police dogs. Rats, giant cockroaches, mutant bats, and climbing lizards are common hazards, as well as robot police dogs sent to enforce the "quarantine" on the PC.
>>
>>152222663
Cont.

The salvagers were forced out of their original camp by the dogs and now are struggling to get by in their new, temporary camp. Tensions are high because the dog threat is constant, they've heard nothing from NCR in quite some time, and basically the only thing for them to eat is dog meat. There's also a rival group of salvages trying to steal claims, and a mysterious group of military guys here as well. The salvagers live in the partially-constructed buildings of Denver, several stories up and clear of the dogs (who can't climb).
Special Art Need: We're going to need to deal with the skyscraper-ness of the city with skyboxing and fog effects in order to handle the horizon.
Denver has its own world map, from which you can access multiple local maps. In addition to the areas below, it can also be flagged with the claim areas of the various salvagers (so you know if you're in another salvager's territory and thus shouldn't take things, or if you can take stuff because it's free for the taking). The area is composed of 11 primary maps and 11 child maps of those maps, plus random blasted city maps.
>>
>>152222767
AREA BACKGROUND
Game Tie-In: Denver is a place that is rich in resources, they're just hard to acquire. There's a lot of
looting to be done but it's spread over much of the town, other people have claims on parts of it, and vicious dogs are everywhere so it's not safe.
Story/Plot Foreshadowing: Denver is also the location of an outbreak of the New Plague in the War era, so the PC can find some clues about plague, its spread, and what was done to contain it (not the BOMB at this point, just standard quarantine).
>>
>>152222909
History: Denver is a wreck. It was in the middle of a building boom shortly before the war, as many new jobs were opening there are the city was swollen to bursting. Most of the construction was housing for these immigrants. When the war with China started, resource rationing occurred and suddenly the construction workers didn't have anything to build with and weren't getting paid. Union riots and strikes occurred because the city couldn't pay and the federal government wouldn't step in to help. When Mexico and the Midwest started to suffer food shortages
Denver was hit hard because of its high population. Food rationing began. Food riots started because of the rationing, and some buildings were set on fire. The National Guard was called in to contain the rioting, using InstaPens (aka "bullpens") to contain and imprison rioters. Some people deliberately attacked police and National Guard troops so they would be imprisoned and fed. Rioters, National Guard personnel who disobeyed orders, and other military folk who refused to help contain the riots were sent west and east. Then an outbreak of the New Plague hit the city. Rioters burned down large parts of the city in their fear of contamination and anger at their treatment. Many panicked and fled the city by car, clogging the freeways when they ran out of gas and trapping everyone behind them. And then the bombs fell, destroying some of what was left and killing everyone who had managed to live through everything else.
[FYI, I will be breaking up the pre-war U.S. into its thirteen distinct "zones". One of these zones is the Great Midwest Commonwealth, which was responsible
for the majority of pre-war agriculture across the country. However, the U.S. as portrayed in my fakey
history will be slightly more economically libertarian, so it's conceivable that the GMC actually had food to trade, but was being stingy with it/jacking up prices in the southwest. – Josh]

So LOL 50s WACKY amirite?

Post-War, Denver has been abandoned by civilized folk, mainly because of lingering radiation (which is gone by the time FO3 starts) and huge packs of wild dogs that have taken over the town. Small groups of scavengers have holed up here from time to time or tried to loot some of the buildings but it has never been a concerted effort until now. Recently a bunch of work-release NCR prisoners have come here to salvage stuff as a way to buy off their sentences, and some slavers from Caesar's Legion are waiting out the midwest's seasonal huge radioactive duststorms keeping them from getting home. And there's another gang of salvagers that have moved in and have been raiding claims from the NCR salvagers.
>>
>>152223208
Critical Path:
PC visits area
meets with NCR salvagers
explores the area
deals with the dogs
gets some loot
finds out about the plague outbreak
finds out about Boulder
makes a foray into Boulder
finds out about Presper/NCR expatriates/sleeping scientists
uses Denver as a source of supplies for later stuff in the game (building a rail, using the salvagers as
workers in New Canaan, etc.)
>>
>>152223336
Economy: The salvages have a lot of supplies to trade. If they get the brewery up & running they'll have beer, too. They desperately need some variety in their food, and could use some good medical upkeep too. They'd be happy to trade their stockpiled supplies (or sell claims in the city) for nonperishable food and medical supplies or the services of a medic or doctor.

Relationships with other Communities: The salvagers are prisoners from NCR on work-release, and they were treated badly by the administration while in prison, so they're not too friendly to NCR and thus not likely to befriend the folks at Hoover Dam. They don't care one way or the other about the tribals, though the Hangdogs (of the Blackfoots) would be happy to come here and trade for some dogs (which the salvagers would be happy to do, since to them the dogs are pests at best and dangerous predators at worst). They could strike up a deal with the BOS as long as they didn't try to claim any cool tech for themselves. They're used to work and would probably get along fine with the people of New Canaan as long as they were treated well. They could also move to Fort Abandon with their loot and set themselves up as rich folks there, which would strengthen FA but leave Denver open to others. The timing of this will need to be careful, as the arrival of the NCR soldiers will screw them up.
>>
>>152223453
Notes on the Salvagers:
The scavengers in Denver are like a tribe of blue-collar workers, working 40, 50, 60 hours a week for little or no reward, desperately trying to crank out a life for themselves and their families back West. It’s like a blue-collar colony, and everything in the camp is designed to reinforce this, including the bus that takes them to and from their claims.
They may have only 2-3 really good Mechanics, and the rest are just good builders, scavengers, demolishers, and laborers. And there may not be a good electrician among them (except for Wagner, and he’s not very good).
[ Make sure the PC knows why the salvagers stay. They're not really skilled, most of them are just laborers, so it's not like they can go anywhere else and make a good living for themselves. Plus, they've been here for 2 years or more and have a financial investment in what they've been doing. To leave now
means throwing away 2 years of their lives and two years of work.]
Salvagers get their power from various confiscated generators. They get water from underground tanks, and from the river through Denver, run through several filters, and even boiled with various purification tablets. Even though they are sick of dog, the dogs in Denver are a ready source of food. The scavengers in Denver have to make do with dog meat (of which there is plenty, but cook it well) and canned food, if they can find it (which is rarer than they thought). As for trading, the salvagers used to trade with no one until Galenski and his truck made his way south and struck a deal with them.
>>
>>152223695
The Denver salvagers haven’t seen a woman in a very long time, so any females that show up are going to have some trouble. Porter may even assign a guard to watch over the female, maybe Jimmy, since no one in their right mind would fight him, and he might as well not have a dick.
Some salvager sites have a stash of ammo and supplies in case they get trapped there – and one salvager gives up the location of some of them in exchange for info.
The Denver scavengers talk about what the best buildings to scavenge are – hotels aren’t worth shit, but hospitals and some office buildings with high computer connections are great. The following areas are gold mines: post office, construction building, manufacturing building, police station, gun stores, sporting good stores.
It’s impolite to talk about past crimes or inquire too deeply into a character’s history in Denver. And you really can’t do without a high Speech skill. (Same as in Black Canyon itself.)

Huh? The only ED-E quest I got was eventually the BoS and Followers somehow picking up on the transmissions he was making, and telling me to bring him to them for upgrades.
>>
>>152229132
Lorenzo will contact you after picking up ED-E's transmission and ask you to meet with a Brotherhood squad at REPCONN so they can take him off your hands to tinker with. The Brotherhood squad is dead, and after you find them, I believe you get a call from the Follower woman.
>>

When I got that call from Lorenzo, he told me to bring ED-E directly to the BoS HQ. But I was more than halfway through Still In The Dark, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Simple Slavery is good, however the building used to house the guy you but supplies from (stun batons, tranq rounds, collars, etc.) is also used by NV Interiors. Obviously the interior cells are different so there's no issues there but the outside doors overlap so you need to use tcm to get to the right one, or you might be able to just disable the NVInteriors door, can't quite remember. Also that slaver guy is located in Cottonwood Cove so you'll need to be on good terms with the Legion, but I'd imagine a slaver character would be anyway.

FNV story wise, 4 game play wise
>>
Do we even WANT another obsidian Fallout at this point? it would have to be laid in the groundwork that Fallout 4 was set in, so it would likely be no more RPG
>>
>>152240537
Fallout New Vegas was set on the framework of Fallout 3 and that was worse than 4. I'm sure it would be fine.
>>
>>152240775
But NV didn't really add anything that made it more RPG like, and it had a robust enough system already in place. Looking at 4's systems it seems impossible for it to not be a plain jane FPS

Plus, two key driving forces in Avellone and Sawyer aren't even there anymore, so the game development would likely be drastically different
>>
>>152240537
Todd recently said something along the lines of "the voice acting for the MC in 4 didn't work out so well", so I doubt they'd be forced to use that and with how much ire the 4 "choices" at all times earned they'd probably be able to just go back to the old list based dialog system. There's obviously a lot more wrong with 4 but I consider that the largest fault at the base level, the only other major hurdle I can think of would be bringing back skills.

Stuff like the poor writing and dumb guns were present in 3 and they were able to turn those around easily enough, although thinking on it if they keep the weapon modding system I doubt they'd be able to add a similarly absurd number of them as in NV with how they'd all need to have a number of mods which would obviously make each weapons take far longer to complete.
>>

To add on I haven't played 4 since last year and even not a huge deal, so I'm probably missing some of the stuff 4 changed.
>>
>>152241063
On that last point, you could still have the same number of weapons, you'd just have stuff like The Assault Carbine, Survivalist's rifle, Marksman Carbine, All American, etc all modded out service rifles. And they could always make it so named characters have slightly different variations of the standard weapons. Like an NCR grunt would have a service rifle, but a named one you get a quest from might have one with an optic and newer furniture, rather than just having IRRADIATED GHOUL KILLER TRIPLE BARREL SERVICE RIFLE

You could be right, otherwise I doubt they'd have parts where all 4 options are literally the same line with one or two different words, mean it doesn't make sense to have the VA record 4 slightly different ways of saying "hey here's that McGuffin you asked for". It should at least be possible to do a Mass Effect style thing where one option leads to another set of responses, like the "Investigate" option here, it'd suck in comparison to what we had but it's something.

It's not about isometric camera -- just dev's ineptness to come up with RPG mechanics that work for FPS. PnP mechanics fare well when it comes to turn-based games, but are lacking when it comes to FPS.
It boils down to how much mental gymnastics you need to perform for the game to start making sense. Original Fallout was pretty "contextual" -- it didn't show you every little detail of your action, so there was quite some room for interpretation that would make sense. For example, shooting someone in the head, while only dealing 1 point of damage, because of how this action is portrayed (player playing the shot animation while facing an enemy), could easily be interpreted as you missing and hitting, say, an ear, which, of course, is far from being lethal. Missing a shot while practically hugging an enemy can as well be interpreted as enemy showing you off, this throwing your aim off.
Clearly, the above doesn't work in an FPS: when you shoot a naked human target, that stands completely still 2 feet away, in the head, see the blood splatters coming out of its forehead, signifying a successful hit, but only take away 10% of its total health, there's no other fucking explanation other than to assume that fucker's skull and spine are made of adamantium, and last I checked, Fallout lore doesn't mention humans becoming terminators after getting exposed to radiation. Humans in fallout are humans, so why won't they behave as ones? Complete fucking immersion breaker.

There are many ways to have character progression/challenge in a real-time game without resorting to numbers autism and dice rolls for everything. Slapping PnP mechanics with close to no adjustments onto an FPS is plain laziness.

Agree, this also made critical hits believable: you could imagine your bullet hit some vital weakness in power armor, whereas in the 3D games, you can be shooting at the exact same fucking place and suddenly it makes tons of damage.

What would you do for combat in a first person Fallout game then anons? FO4 streamlined it into an FPS, which doesn't work imo. Then again neither does FO3. I don't know what I'd do.
>>
>>152266494

I wouldn't make it a first person game, period.

If forced, though, I would make it sort of like Morrowind, but:

- Proper animations to showcase misses and connections
- Manual blocking that can fail to block depending on your skill
- Manual dodging that can fail depending on your skill

And that's that.

If New Orleans is a thing (which most likely isnt) where should be the borded and what places should the DLCs cover?
>>
>>152267009
All the DLC should be Fallout Van Buren
>>
>>152267009
It wouldn't. New Orleans as its own location would get pretty dull pretty quickly, which is why having all of Louisiana would be better.

And if that's the case, Mississippi and Tennessee are the DLC locations. Texas would be exempt because its too different and they'd probably save it for another game.

Sorry for the late reply.

It's not for everyone, but I use Realistic Weapon Damage. It changes damage amplifiers for all weapons, and gives them a lot more crunch. Makes the game non-bullet spongey. But it's not entirely balanced, but I enjoy it regardless. Both you and enemies can die to one headshot.

Gun Behaviour Mod Merge is a must. It makes a lot of small changes to guns, such as removing auto-reload, reloading with bullets left leaves "unemptied" magazines you can use, fixes a lot of gun sight aligntments and much more.

Last but not least is Collision Meshes. It makes it much more fun to snipe and fight across multiple edges in the game.

I did fuck all when it came to building settlements and i beat Fallout 4 in about a week, and that's with doing all the side missions i came across. I mean for gods sake the game didn't even have a After the Story slideshow like the rest of the games had. But that's probably because there would only be two endings for all the characters and factions considering you only have one path for all of their missions. It's literally either "You joined the faction or you killed them. You helped the person or you didn't."

To be fair it's not only the first DLC but also the only one to really change up the gameplay by putting you in a survival horror scenario, so I can understand people coming into it and getting a nasty surprise when they can't just steamroll through with their endgame gear.

But the people that seriously complain about the difficulty into their second playthrough are just damn casuals all the new threats it throws at you are completely manageable if you take it slowly but move still with purpose.

Why are so many of the traits in New Vegas total shit? The only good ones are Four Eyes, Heavy Handed, and Wild Wasteland. The rest are either minor buffs that give you massive penalties or short term boost to skills that you could instantly get by leveling up once. Old World Blues brings complete shit to the table as well because they thought unique=useful.

The Courier gets the cybernetic implants after he gets shot in the head. So it would be impossible for him to be 186 years old when he wakes up in Goodsprings. This. SO much this.
If you are going to make an RPG game in first person, and you aren't supposed to control the skill (which makes sense, seeing as it's NOT your own skill at aiming what matters, but the character's), then you should make it so misses and fumbles and dodges are properly represented to convey the mix of the involved characters skills playing against each other.
Morrowind had the technology working against it, probably. Maybe the new games do, too, because of bethesda's shitty engine.
But that shit should definitely be possible nowadays.

Problem with FO3 and 4 doesn't stem from them being FPS games, but rather, from Bethesda completely missing the point of original.

There are plenty of ways to keep the character progression while also having a believable FPS experience. The first step is to ask yourself: what distinguishes and experienced shooter from the rookie? Clearly, it's the ability to manage recoil, smoothness of the trigger pull, how long one can stay on target before getting exhausted and starting to shake like crazy, ambidexterity, how fast the reload is, how many stances can be used effectively? The second step is to think about how to translate the thing mentioned above into the game, all while getting rid of those that could be deemed redundant. Recoil management is straightforward enough -- it's a modifier applied to a base weapon parameter that makes the camera jerk more/less after each shot. Ability to stay on target is a modifier to the amount of sight movement about the aiming point, and the amount of time before the movement becomes erratic enough to severely impair accuracy. Reload speed is self-explanatory as well: a modifier that makes the reload faster/slower depending on character's proficiency. Smoothness of the trigger pull is a redundant feature for two reasons: it's a way of making single shots less accurate, but we already have ability to stay on target in place that does just that; portraying it properly in the game sacrifices precision of controls ("recoil" before the initial shot means there needs to be a slight delay between the fire key press and the shot taking place). Ability to use various stances (read shooting from uncomfortable positions) is also redundant, mainly because FPS don't make use of more than basic 4 (standing, crouching, prone, leaning). Ambidexterity comes into play when using cover: non-ambidextrous player would have to choose between accuracy and how much he's exposed when having cover on the same side as his leading hand.

If you're that shit at the game that you can't just steamroll through on easy, then just don't play the damn DLC.

It's annoying to see because I love DM for that exact reason.

I could deal with most everything that's wrong with 3 if they'd just had iron sights.
Slightly zooming in the character is a fucking awful way of doing it.

Oh, that's just one of the weapons I love to carry around. I carry a .45 pistol (Light Shining in the Darkness) and submachine gun, a hunting shotgun, an automatic rifle, and an anti-material rifle with me because I love how they all look.

And hey, my guns skill is 100, I can snipe people with pretty much anything. I'd use the NCR beret but I like the crit chance on all my guns and the red looks great, I think.

then why aren't the slugs loaded in the gun faggot

How long does a playthrough usually last you guys? I'm at around 65 hours, just finished LR and doing some side quests before the final battle.
>>
>>152396396
twenty one hours
than I start a new one

Can anyone help me come up with a decent melee build for New Vegas? It's been a long time since I've played the game, but I was really itching to bathe in the blood of profligates.

I've got a big problem about just doing quests and never bothering to explore minor locations, so usually around 50 hours.
>>
>>152396740
I have the same problem as well, although I'll usually explore specific locations for unique weapons.

What mods remove the stutters I get when playing vanilla New Vegas?
Whenever I go to places like the 188 and Hoover I still get 60FPS, but when it loads all the people it freezes multiple times for 1/2 a second.
>>
>>152396703
Shouldn't be too hard. Your main attributes should be strength, endurance, agility, and maybe luck if you're going for ninja for insane crits. If you're not going for ninja heavy handed is a good trait.

For some reason that didnt show up when I searched for stutter removers, thanks anon.

You had me spitting out my coffee, Anon, you magnificent motherfucker.

Is unarmed or melee going to be more fun in New Vegas?
>>
>>152401496
They share some perks, so most of the time you'll be using both but melee is the most fun imo. Also mauler is fantastic against deathclaws.
>>
>>152401496
They're both really good, and a lot of their perks intertwine and give bonuses to both, so you can totally run with both without needing to gimp one.
>>
>>152352779
>>152353210
I agree, its why it is still my favourite DLC.
It's one of the few well-done times that a game takes everything away from you.
There's a way to do everything, no matter your build, but not in a "we've made sure shitters will breeze through" kind of way.
>>
>>152402075
>>152402012
Thanks guys. Looking into it, it seems like the only thing limiting one versus the other would be me. Between Ninja and Slayer I'll want both to be pretty close to capped.

Yes

Did you play Deus Ex HR?

The Winterized and Van Graff combat armour are the only variants of the combat armour I'll use in the 3D Fallouts.
Obviously, I don't have much of a choice in 1 and 2.

So should I add MO?
I don't/never have used it, so I couldn't recommend it in good faith.

If people would like me to put it in there, I'll be more than happy to.
After all, I'd rather it be more than just what I see fit to be in the pastebin.

Sorry about not having updated the FO1/FO2 links. Real life needed me for a day or two.
>>
>>152401496
>>152402387
Melee has throwables, remember that.
>>
>>152403425
For sure, like I said I've used it for ages with no complaints. We're coming up to a new thread in an hour or so, will you have the time to do them by then?
>>
>>152403425
>Sorry about not having updated the FO1/FO2 links. Real life needed me for a day or two.
I understand, anon. Don't worry about it. But BUMP LIMIT HAS JUST BEEN REACHED.
>>
>>152403720
I definitely do, I'll get on it now.

>>152403735
It's fine, I think when I edit the pastebin, that the link to it doesn't change, meaning I can edit it on the fly, rather than having to update it every thread.

Either of you two mind grabbing the link for MO?
I'll pop it in now and we'll see if the link changes.
>>
>>152403646
Whats a good place to buy throwables?
>>
>>152403964
>It's fine, I think when I edit the pastebin, that the link to it doesn't change, meaning I can edit it on the fly, rather than having to update it every thread.
Shit, really? I didn't know that. I've only ever used pastebin to make the FO1/FO2 link in the OP.
>>
>>152404185
Now, I have said "I think" but having the change it would be fucking stupid, considering how long pastebin is around.
Either way, it'll all work out.

>>152404103
There isn't one in the base game.
I'm not exactly sure right now, but I think a mod includes some merchant in The Thorn who has over a hundred of several kinds of throwables.
>>
>>152403964
Sound, I'll make a new thread when we hit 10 if no one else has.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1334/?

This is the newest version, definitely works with NV.
>>
>>152404587
Ah, of course.
I had a look for it, but forgot that it's for bloody Skyrim.
It's been so long since I'd played it, let alone modded it.
>>
>>152404517
>Either way, it'll all work out.
Yep. Thanks for working on the pastebin, anon. You're a good man. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Feel free to steal the links from the shitty pastebin I made for FO1/FO2. As far as I know it has the most up to date versions of all those mods.
>>
Done, someone check if it's fine.
http://pastebin.com/u29WKkGy
>>
>>152405409
Looks good, I'll take the 1&2 pastebin out of the OP then.
>>
>>152405636
Might be worthwhile leaving it in OR making sure people know the FO1/2 stuff is in there in the OP.
>>
>>152405734
Aw hell, already made it
