They were probably cheaters since they could simply use the best medals produced by the book of prophecies for themselves. The trash was given to the Moogle for some Lux who sold it to the players.

Another theory is that the foretellers actually don't use the book of prophecies this way, the medals/cards are purely used to enable the player to gather lux, probably to even make them depended on them, that's why whales are the biggest suckers of them all and should meditate on the meaning of guilt.

There are differences but all in all they are really minor.
For example the 1st Anniversary and Dark Corridor Trials story of x[chi] is already integrated into the main story quests of UCx. Some NPCs are shuffled around in UCx, the most infamous being a pumpkin head guy that is moved to Agrabah for a 420 joke. The Beast's Castle storyline was shortened in UCx (all cut-scenes are still there though), there is some new story between quest 500 and 525 to make up for it and the 2nd Anniversary story is recycled for the Moogle of Glory quests.

Currently the only thing missing from UCx is the Crystals of Light event, on the other hand the Japanese version of UCx already got two events with the same amount of story: "Solve the mysteries of Wonderland" and "Tag Team Tournament".

All these things didn't really left an impact on the main story yet, with the exception of the cutscene, where you meet your Foreteller for the very first time, they are completely identical in both versions until now.

It's generally expected that there will be a split where x[chi] ends and UCx continues.

All I can tell you is that this connection is not made clear yet since almost everything is the same in both games.

It probably has something to do with the "Unchained state" Ephemere is in and the "outside world" Ava is talking about.

Nomura hinted different times in past interview about the nature of "Unchained" and it's meaning in relation to the normal browser game but we simply don't know what he's really talking about at this point.

My shared medal was a cid at 44% which needed it's attack boost II to proc for every fight except the boss one. Since BBC mickey had max boost, I only needed cid's and RAX's skills to activate, and sora's Atk Boost II to activate for the final battle.

U might be able to do it with that setup, though im a little woried about your sp.

You're probably gonna need APP to activate every fight besides the first one like I did in order to have enough for boss.

You break every card no matter what on top of being immune to status effects and I think sleights. You don't need to farm EXP at all, 35-50 is like the normal point to fight them. Just use mines on Vanitas Remnant and surges on Mysterious Figure. It's all about spamming dodges more than anything, Terra just makes it harder since his dodges are awful.

You'll also have to die a bunch of times to learn his attack patterns. Once you do it's just a matter of perseverance.

Vanitas Remnant can be incredibly annoying as Terra, but once you beat him you can rest easy knowing that it's going to be a lot easier with the other two.

Also if you're playing the 2.5 version you better also fight Armor of the Master and No Heart unless you're a filthy casual.
