Barely above 50% winrate in pubs, the only people who consider him OP are low skill players. He excels at solo pickoffs and pubstomping as a result. Just group, hit buildings, and buy a gem. Not hard. He has a lot of counters too, and a lot of heroes that make his life very difficult.

That's because it does exist. I struggled my way out of it, and the games where I got cooperative non-retard teammates we won handily for the most part. The "trench" is almost entirely decided by who you're matched with, when you get anyone with any semblance of skill if you're good enough to improve you will, but if you're matched with 4 peruvians who all lock hard carries and "gg ez mid" after feeding first blood you'll get fucking screwed for no reason other than shit matchmaking. Once you get up to around 3k games are much easier, and that's where the growth and skill development really comes into play as you get more skilled games, 2k is just a fucking grind of getting a lucky streak of non-retard teammates.

1. Essence shift now refunds stats to hit heroes when slark dies. He already loses the stats when he dies, they just aren't returned for some reason.
2. Also dark pact purge/delay to 0.8 seconds
3. Shadow dance regen no longer deactivated by ward vision.
4. Slark has normal night vision.

2 and 3 are side grades that aren't really nerfs. 1 is a fix to what is either an oversight of bug.
4 is a nerf you could give him independently of 1-3. There is no real reason for a hero with that many ways to get out of a gank to also have such passive night vision that other heroes have to spend levels on (Luna) or have tradeoffs elsewhere (Nightstalker's day/night vision)

If you are Quas Exort, you ALWAYS want middle lane because levels are extremely important, and your levels in exort give you sufficient damage, plus if you build phase boots that's even better. You can use forge spirits to outlane and control runes. Once you're level 8 you have 2 forge spirits which is even better. Hand of Midas if you're doing really well and want to scale out of control. 3rd item is situational, though QE invokers don't typically go Orchid like QW does. I personally like going for Eul's to setup a combo of sunstrike + meteor, or even Aether Lens if I'm far ahead. Look at guides.

If Quas Wex, middle lane is still best, but you can go to a different lane if necessary, because QW requires less levels to come online. Typically QW builds midas if side lane because need to catch up on levels, and you can do a lot without items early on. In this case you rush phase boots for damage in lane, and typically rely on your laning partners to help you win lane. Harassing with cold snap (QQQ) is a good way to help secure the lane, but don't overdo it / waste mana unnecessarily. Once you have midas and phase boots you should be well on your way to picking a 3rd item depending on the situation. Common picks include orchid for the much helpful damage/attack speed, or Eul's for more control.

How to really balance Slark:

Rework Dark Pact. That shit is fucking cancer. Unless you have a DPS hero on your team that can deal >2k dmg on him in <5 seconds, you won't be able to take him down on late game. I've encountered too many Slark games where there's almost 5 stuns on our team and this fucker just shrugs it off all because of this skill. Sure he has low max hp and mana pool, but when he gets Skadi it's almost certainly never a problem for him to just Dark Pact over and over again in team fights.

His other skills are okay. Dark Pact shouldn't really be a hard dispel or anything of that sorts that can just dispel all of your team's fucking stuns.
