Should I buy Generations? I played 3U until I got lagiacrus armor and I played 4U till rank 7 online and unlocked the high rank quests in single player, but the later monsters feel like such a grind... Should I get generations or wait until I've gotten further?

It depends, mang. I mean, Enraged Guard will be better in 90% of the cases, because most fights don't last long enough for the Jab to outdamage it, so I'd recommend that. But the Jab can be useful for staggers or for monsters with awful hitspots (like Uragaan).

Stick with Petrified for now, then upgrade to Tigrex when it is available (it branches from the Petrified line iirc). Then stick with it, it's pretty powerful and has natural white sharpness at final form. By then you'll have more of a grasp on hammer and be able to choose good end game options.

Guild for the true hammer path. Aerial for dunks and uppercut on lvl 3 charge. Adept is good if you can consistently abuse the follow ups to the evades. Choose based on this information.

Don't bother with Striker. It has innate Focus, but that means Super Pound spamming, which is bad and it also doesn't have the golfswing.

If I were to give you tips on gittin gud, practice positioning (the swings distancing can be hard to master), don't be afraid to cancel a charge by dodging (being greedy can be your death) and remember that even if KOs are your thing, you still have to account for hitzone defense. If the head has a really high defense (metal Raths, Uragaan) you either target other place or change weapons.

guild and adept are good hammer styles, and I wholeheartedly recommend aerial style for Najarala and the big crabs.

Provoke should only be picked for online play, and even then I'd ignore it.

Typhoon trigger charges super fast, but is beyond situational, and you'll rarely find a good opportunity to land the finisher, but if you do it's essentially an instant KO

Spinning Meteor is solid, charges fast enough to be used about twice per hunt, and does great damage and really allows you to capitalize on KOs. It's my recommendation.

Ceana has one bad move which is the "Imma run with my arms wide open so come hug me" technique. Apart from that he's ok and I like that they added the bleeding effect. And Glavenus has reads on absolutely all its attacks and no cheap moves whatsoever, it's by far my favorite of the Fated Four.

That said, your favorites are really good and I don't know what people are complaining about. If anything, the only one I could complain about is Shrouded Nerscy, if only because you had to fight it in the fucking Dunes at night (with the ledges, sand whirlpool and all that shit).

Because if you run out of power coatings it literally means your damage gets halved.

And you need to constantly hit weakpoints, and for gunners they're usually small shit like the head/tail tip/back, so you need to aim in both axis, you can't just L-target the monster and put it in the center of your screen (except on raths and other shits that have legs as their weakpoints), you need to do that, aim at a weakspot and manage critical distance, or you can end even doing 0.4x your normal damage.

But this struggle is what makes bow fun.

New player here to MH4U, just trying to clarify that I understand how say, the poison status works.

Let's pretend the monster has 1000 hp, and 200 poison initial defense and takes the 300 damage from poison. Does this mean after I do 200 poison status to him he will then take 300 damage over 60 seconds, reducing his hp from 1000 to 700? (pretending I was unable to do physical damage).
