MECHANICS
Cryo works by dispensing reagents from the beaker into the occupant. As a dosification measure, it won't dispense if the occupant has >1u Cryoxadone and/or >1u Clonexadone in their system.
The method by which Cryo dispenses reagents is divided in two operations:
(1)- It copies exactly half of the contents of the beaker, then attempts to dispense them into the occupant via permeability.
This does not drain any reagents from the beaker. Permeability transfer is somewhat complex and unintuitive, it can be simplified as such:
Imagine all the reagents in the beaker are separated and applied invidivually. Each INDIVIDUAL reagent has a chance to fail the transfer, depending on the occupant's clothing. A naked person (e.g. clone) will receive these reagents 100% of the time. A person that has ANY amount of clothes on gives a 50-99% chance (usually more like 95-99%) for each reagent to be blocked.
(2)- It directly transfers 1u of the beaker into the occupant, as if transferring with a 1u syringe.
This does drain 1u from the beaker each time. It is not affected by clothing.
Since the mix is composed of multiple reagents, very small amounts of each reagent are actually transferred at a time.
Assume that (1) fails due to the occupant having clothing. There is a minimum metabolizable amount that, if not reached, will cause the reagent to not do anything from (2) alone. For every individual reagent in the beaker, refer to how much of the mix does it make up:
0.1% - 10% = NO effect. Note that this DOES include 10%, due to rounding.
10.1% - 29.9% = Reagent works at from 60% to 80% of its usual efficiency. There is no difference in efficiency in this range, 11u is just as good as 20u.
30%+ = Reagents work at full efficiency. This does include 30% exactly.

PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS OF CLOTHING
A cryomix will always work at full efficiency with a naked person, but clothing severely decreases the transfer of reagents and causes problems:
- A mix is drained at about 1u per ~2.5 minutes for a naked person. For a clothed person, up to ~20u are drained per minute. PUTTING CLOTHED PEOPLE IN CRYO ACCOUNTS FOR NEARLY ALL OF THE CRYOMIX USAGE.
- For a chemical to have any effect on clothed people that are put in Cryo, it needs to take up at least 10.1% of the mix's volume.
- Every chemical individually rolls a chance to be successful in (1). This is a huge problem for Clonex/Cryox. For example, the Clonexadone of the mix could be blocked and transfer only via (2), while the Cryoxadone could pass the roll in (1). The dosification measure then sees this and shuts down transfer of chemicals entirely until the Cryoxadone is fully metabolized. Essentially, the occupant was randomly put on a pure Cryox mix and are now healing extremely slowly.
Vox/Plasmamen clones should not be given a breathing mask before being put in Cryo, the mask by itself is enough to fail (1) and causes massive mix drain. Cryo makes them not need internals for a few seconds after being ejected anyways, so they will be fine.

REAGENT CONSIDERATIONS
The percentages specified in (2) are for chemicals with a 0.2 metabolism rate, there are a few exceptions to this rule. Doctor's Delight has a metabolism of 0.4, so at least 20.1% are necessary for it to work, making it impractical to have in a mix. Alkysine has a metabolism rate of 0.05.
Note that for the purposes of (2), we talk about ratios. This holds true for ALL beaker sizes, which makes bluespace beakers not very useful for the purposes of Cryo. However, there is at least one exception to be considered: Since clones receive a great amount of chemicals from (1), this transfer will generally only happen once before they are ejected, and so one must ensure they receive enough of the chemicals a clone needs during that transfer. In practice, this is only relevant for Alkysine: The more a mix runs out, the less Alkysine the clone will receive. So, if the mix is somewhat depleted (you will usually never reach this point unless you leave a clothed guy baking in cryo for five minutes), a speedclone may get less than the 3-4u (6-8u in beaker) Alkysine they need, and may have LIGHT brain damage. Via trial and error in practice, I find ~12u Alkysine starter seems to work without complaints, if you want to be 100% safe, 15u is the most you should use.

With all the previous considerations, we can establish the base for an optimal mix:

This leaves about 25u left to work with, assuming a large beaker.
The logical improvement from here would be to add two additional reagents at 10.1% each (remember that exactly 10% would have no effect on clothed people), however the .1% is rather inconvenient to dosify. There is an easy trick to transform 10u into more than 10% however: simply leave a tiny bit of empty space in the beaker. Example: 30/30/12/1/10/10 for a total of 93u, whereas 10u would only take up 10% of 100u, here it takes up ~10.75% and that is enough to defeat the rounding.

The only purpose of the gas fed to Cryo is cooling people down for Clonex/Cryox to work, which require a body temperature of 170K or lower (even if you aren't using Clonex/Cryox, the machine still wants its gas or it refuses to work). You can use any gas, even Plasma, it has no effect. The amount of gas Cryo needs is extremely small, in fact you can remove the oxygen tank from Medbay and it will still work from just the leftover oxygen inside the pipes.
Leaving Cryo tubes on with no occupant inside does not consume chemicals or gas, it has no effect.

Xenobiology is the most soul crushing science job. Most of the productive things are boring and nobody asks for them, the fun stuff takes a long ass time to get and the round usually ends before that, and it's one of the prime secluded murder hot-spots.
