Best Physical gems are in the Chalice dungeons, but main game you should farm the Winter Lanterns (singing Frenzy motherfuckers) in Mensis for cursed 19% Physical Droplet gems. There's 23% versions in the DLC.

But you can get equal/better gems as early as the Third Chalice Dungeon.

I played through DaS3 twice, completely regretted pre-ordering it digitally. It wasn't as tight or fluid as Bloodborne, none of the consistency or visual flair in its environments, none of the interesting weapons, monster designs were terribly mundane and I'm still pissed about Aldrich being a disappointment design-wise. I remember /bbg/ saying, pre-release, that DaS3 was, perhaps half-jokingly, a stealth BB sequel and we were all excited for Aldrich because the trailer made it look like a huge eldritch horror.

It certainly wasn't the sum of its parts. There's cool stuff here and there, my highlights would be High Lord Wolnir's reveal in his arena just being cool, his theme is the best theme by far, Nameless King's design is top notch, and the whole idea of the Cathedral of the Deep is cool, cathedrals filled with monsters is awesome. But the rest, it just feels so fucking tired. I'm glad Dark Souls is over. I just wish it had ended sooner so Bloodborne could have gotten the more attention it deserves.

One of my favourites parts of that place is the subtle horror music soundtrack. It's curiously the only place to get an actual traditional soundtrack. I feel hubworlds don't count, and the Hypogean Gaol is arguable since it's what's termed diegetic, meaning it's music coming from within the scene itself, in this case Mensis ritual chanting. Always wondered why UCW got an ambient sountrack.

So I'm going to go for a skill build on my new character instead of quality like last time. I don't know, from what I've used of it the buff on the L1 does a whole lot more damage than bolt paper. The moveset is trash though. Guess I haven't used it enough to see how bad it really is, but plenty of people have said it has carried their Arc builds pretty far.

The only way I can see it being useful for an ARC build is VERY early game and only as a secondary, since if compared to a serrated weapon with fire paper/fire gems it'd be useless against beasts.

I still much prefer the saw spear with bolt paper/gems, since it has a thrust R2 and much better reach, combined with it being serrated and having a fast moveset in its base form. It's great for both beast and kin.

It's still the highest damage weapon I have on my STR/ARC build with top-tier Nourishings. The only thing that comes close is the Wheel.

The buff is much better than Bolt paper, because it adds a bunch of scaling and a bolt modifier in addition to flat damage. It's a great weapon early game when sources of bolt damage are limited to Paper. With good gems/build its useable endgame, but putting a bolt gem on a weapon with a better moveset usually makes it redundant. You can get 8% Bolt Wanings straight after Amelia, and a 16.5% in Yharhagul post Rom, and radials in the DLC.

For STR builds its great to have as a back-up Brainsucker slaying machine, (and killing Rom) but on Arc builds its almost redundant as soon as you hit Nightmare Frontier, because a Bolt Saw Spear has better reach, speed and durability, while also not needing 12 STR which is a deal breaker for pure Arc builds.

It should have had a unique property, like making the electricity arc to nearby enemies, or at least a telescopic transformation (like Axe or Church Pick) so you had a proper moveset, put the buff on L1 as you transform it, and let L2 rebuff in tricked mode.

Get a Saw Cleaver/Spear. Parry Orphan and space yourself close enough to hit him but not visceral. R1,L1, walk back a little, parry the next hit and repeat. It'll chain him to do the same, parryable attack. Beast Blood Pellets help end it quicker.

The metas for Bloodborne are 80 for lower level PvP, 98 for /bbg/'s meta, 117 for meme-tier parasitism, 120 for higher level PvP and 150 for reddit shittery.

Alternatively, you can stop your build early and invade anywhere for 2v1s. I have a BL54 build meant for invading in Cainhurst, for example.

But really, it all depends on where *you* want to stop your build. Don't let other people tell you what is and isn't fun.

Aight finally got time for a screeny. The gems aren't flawless, but they're pretty fucking good, and I pump more damage out of the Tonny with its buff than the tricked Wheel or my HMS. I didn't include the gems on my LHB, Saif, or Whirligig, but although they're good, none of them top out near my Nourishing ones, aside from the LHB which has a solid 720 pure ARC AR with sub-optimal gems.
