Try to sell your entire account bruv. The Polaris is bound to be more useful than an SC capital ship since it needs: less crew, less operational costs, less defending (Idrii are bound to be targeted by basically everyone t bh), and it comes at the side effects of being more nimble, easier to replace if BTFO, and easier to defend. It's the best option.

I don't really want to get rid of it though. It's a cool ship and everything they showed from S42 etc. so far makes me look forward to it. I'm just not sure if it will end up being useful in any way down the road. I'm not stupid enough to bring it out without proper equipment on day 1.

any ETA?
>>
>>151031626
You can get a package and just sit on it for a few years if you want. The alpha obviously has issues with it and we mainly play it to help find these bugs as basically a massive Q&A team.

I'd personally recommend forgetting about the game because the wait is hard for people who constantly check for updates.

Eh, arguable. It's more stuff to do and it does greatly improve your ships. There's still 3 more big updates coming along with Horizons, so you'll probably need it for some of that content, too.

>buy from other players
Nope. You can only buy them from the engineers

>is surface shit just a gimmick?

Also arguable. Driving around in the buggy hunting for mats is kind of fun for a while, and it adds a bunch of new mission types. Raiding ground bases is probably the best part.

Eeeh? I don't think so. Throwing in money in possible November ship sales. I missed my chances last year to get BMM and Orion, but I'm not so certain about Orion anymore. I want to earn it ingame, but I don't really have time to grind trading routes in order to afford it via in game credits.

But then again with it I could just pile money together with other people at launch in order to fuel it/etc and go earn money/resources so that I can start up engines in BMM...

non- /edg/ fag here with a question. wtf is "space legs" and why is it important/why do some people think it will save E:D?
>>
>>151042274
Space Legs is colloquial parlance for E:D's promise of adding first person player movement to the game at some time in the future.
>>
>>151042274
Space legs is having the ability to move independently of your ship. Some people here think that that (and only that) is incredibly important.
>>
>>151042603
>>151042492
Space legs when?
>>
>>151042274
I have no idea why people think walking around will save E:D.

Though their expectations regarding that feature are sky-high in comparison to what they'll actually get (for another $60, mind you) so that probably factors in.
>>
>>151043653
I think it's more said as a joke than anything.
>>
>>151043653
I used to think that being able to walk around would naturally bring about some more gameplay content with it. But then I realized, this is FDev, the most we'll get is being able to walk around, see our body and do nothing. We'll be lucky to get fully modeled Cutter/Corvette/Condas to walk around, let alone actually doing anything significant with the ability to get out of your seat.

Got it to work now. Everspace is pretty much just the poor man's FTL. The mechanics are more or less identical (2 or 3 different paths to follow, each jump consumes fuel, warp to the next sector at the end) and combat feels horrible due to tiny hitboxes and every ship pulling ridiculous maneuvers.

tbf I only did a single run so far. Basically you start out in a system with your shitty ship and 4 units of fuel. Every jump consumes 1 unit and you can choose which path to go. Unlike FTL there's not even anything remotely resembling a story. You can collect money and several resources and use them to upgrade the weapons and equipment you found.

You know as well as i that braben will get spesslegs working. He will then model the cheapest area through the ship onto a landing pad. A small panel will then serve as the interaction between pilot and space station. If you want to change from open to private to solo to cycle the board you will have to make that tedious walk everytime.

Thanks to ftroop, even walking is a grind.

I just finished my second run. It was kinda fun, but at some point in the second sector aliens started showing up and their ships are so ridiculously fast that it was pretty much impossible to hit them properly. Then, while flying around the empty level to loot, an alien battleship warped out in front of my face and instantly obliterated me.
I dunno, it feels like it could be a neat game but they definitely need to make significant improvements to combat. Even the basic enemies are so fast that they can completely change direction while your shots are still on the way at less than 1,5km range.

But what makes Elite so compelling isn’t so much about the game as the experience. It’s the tinkering with and the taking out of a performance car for a Sunday drive, not to rack up more miles, nor to break any speed limits, but to just feel the growl of the engine and the wind comb through what’s left of your hair. To remember those carefree days arched over a BBC Micro or blinking angrily into a Lenslok and to forget for a short while that you have to make 357 people redundant in the morning. Elite is a hermetically-sealed escape capsule and it’s the best there is. Hell, you could fire the game up and just sit there on a launch pad and the sounds are enough to carry you away, so strong is your ship’s presence and so absorbing are the station surroundings.

Taking off, tearing through the station entrance a little too fast and just missing a Python, angling for the next jump, scooping fuel from a blazing sun, spinning the camera around your ship to catch its best profile, starting a fight just for the hell of it, seeing smok rise from the command console, hearing the screen crack and precious oxygen escaping into space and landing back at base with seconds to spare – these are the moments that make Elite essential. Trading, missions, mining – not so much. But it’s ok, we’re not going anywhere.

I will fully admit that org drama is going to be the best shit ever if done right. It's a part of the whole reason I even watch the progress for this game. If Chris can get the instancing system to be able to support enough people for organizations to naturally have 20 v 20s in the PU with economic implications and banter I would shit my pants. I wouldn't even touch the single player or other careers in the game. I personally want to be a black market weapons dealer to fuel the conflict between warring orgs in pirate/uncontrolled space (I highly doubt orgs can be free in safe space) so that I can see the shit unfold. Backstabbing, spying, bombing runs on enemy ships, other orgs being hired to fight against the enemies, the alliances, everything. Ideally we can start out the PU as neutral, set up alliances, and then WW1 happens when some mega org makes a mistake or tries something big.

It's hard to retain hype the more I think about it.
I need to calm down and expect less.

To be honest I'm amazed they even have something like the Starfarer working how it already is in game, so who knows how they will implement all this zone system shit.

In that recent magazine video interview Chris seemed pretty optimistic about a new breakthrough they had made with the netcode that could allow way, way more in instances than they had originally envisioned, but I'm remaining ultra skeptical.

If SC experience ends up as single player as ED or even NMS I'd be completely happy with it, in all honesty.

An extremely marginal improvement that is entirely unnecessary for winning a fight and is still gimped by E:D's garbage flight model.

I posted the pic because it's the closest thing I have for reference of this stuff. By no means do I expect EVE levels of combat. My current expectation for PU release (I'm talking 2019 or 2020 here) is 100 players per area with extra bots flying about as well. I've learned to remain skeptical of everything CIG says before they show actual proof of it, so their "we can potentially hold a thousand with the instancing tech we're making" is bullshit until they give it to us.

That said, I still maintain high hopes for enhanced player interaction. Org 2.0 (or whatever they decide to call it) will be when I start playing the alpha a bit more.

a bengal should actually take a full minute to turn around though.

Sorry this is not super related, but your comment about the bengal made me think.
I like the idea that you could try to turn capital ships faster but that they would tear them selves apart with their own mass.
Their is some thing awe inspiring by the acknowledgment that large structures are not ridge have to be engineered to flex, and that if pressed the engines could warp its structure or break it.

even when the tutorial mission worked, it was a pretty jarring skill curve.

"Okay if you press X, your ship rolls. Can you do a roll? Very Good!"
five seconds later...
"Okay, now follow me through this asteroid field at top speed, then try not to die for five minutes to these enemy fighters while your weapons reboot, and now fight them off, but you don't dare go more than a 100 clicks away from me while doing evasive maneuvers or you'll autofail!"

yeah like I said, I love it. it harkens back to some of CR's earliest games in the WC series and that era, where you had to put in some real dedication just to get into the game because the threshold was so high.

that said a lot of the issues with the tutorial were actual bugs, rather than skill issues and they did fix many of them before disabling the entire thing as it became a dilapidated haunted mansion of a mission

Yeah, it was pretty fun... but it is clearly an incomplete alpha. I mean, even the control panels in the cockpit are just static decals atm.

But it might be a nice little arcade-y space game a year or so from now.
>>
>>151076569
ED is released and fully playable, with more features to come in paid expansions.

SC is actually much cheaper and once you buy in you get everything, but it is still years off being complete, it's a much bigger and more ambitious project.
>>
>>151077185
Not years off anymore.
>>
>>151077172
Yeah, definitely Alpha. However, the concept is enjoyable. Though I ran into issues where the second I hopped into a new instance I was immediately bombarded by alien spacecraft or Elite Outlaw scouts.

The controlling needs work. I don't like gimbal controls in any game. I think weapons need balance as I found myself having to use pulse/plasma to knock off shields and then gatling to kill, unless that's what they wanted. Graphics are pretty nice. The game in alpha already has more variety than ED does in terms of locales. Also I found a bug where I can no longer strafe to the right after having re-binded the key. Annoying.

>>
>>151077628
>Being rused

In what way? Before you pull the trigger, you should know that they're using cryengine netcode in an alpha test. So it will give you shit FPS on their live universe but shit will work fine in the various arena modes.

Fuck it, I'll be an asshole. Referral shit. You get starting money, I get a weapon or something STAR-PP5Y-LLJW

Both. Original cryengine netcode doesn't know how to only send relevant information, so you get updated on what every single person in the server is doing all the time, even if they're nowhere remotely near you.
>>
>>151078694
Both.

Gtx 970/i5 3570k OC'd gives me silky smooth 24 FPS to 30 FPS if there are a lot of players on. I have gotten 60 FPS before. This is on high. A friend of mine has a GTX 750 Ti and he's able to get 60 fps in Arena last I checked. However, similar frame rate when too many people online in the test universe.

I suspect that's because they've since made eject seats and lifepods mostly nonfunctional fluff just like beds and showers. When your ship blows up now you'll likely just get a fade to black and youl just wake up/respawn at the nearest med bay regardless of what escape mechanism your ship has. And any pods people see launched from ships are just npc things you can rescue for points/rep/whatever

>>
>>151085308
In some cases it's not even thought out properly. Like the Starfarer toilet+shower in the captain's quarters which are in no way separated from the office and in plain view from the window if someone were to EVA along the side.

Pretty sure shit like showers and toilets weren't be necessary at all.

Having them there still adds to your Immersion, whether or not you're actively admiring/rping them, it still adds mental value to the ships to know each one is fully functional and realized.

Maybe a vague relent of realism from everything being cramped on a spaceship, but the captain still having few luxuries, like a private shower.

CIG has been very diplomatic in how they package their stance on the matter, but that stance has been essentially "hey fucking deal with it, that's part of the game and part of the fun, we're not going to punish people for making the world interesting with pvp and shenanigans."
what a ton of forum carebears bemoaned as future griefing back in the day before Crusader has since become a major part of the game's current economy, namely people being dicks because that's what people do, and others getting paid to kill said dicks to keep some balance and consequence involved.

What
>>
>>151087761
Because getting your ship replaced by insurance is not instant and more advanced insurance, covering upgraded components and cargo, is more expensive. So you probably want to avoid losing your ship in most cases.
>>
>>151087761
Insurance is catastrophic in nature. Basic maintenance and operating costs like fuel and parts are still pretty essential, not to mention ammunition and missiles. Ease of maintenance also ties into overclocking your components, since if you can't get to them easily they're harder to both fix and deal with.

Contact CIG directly. If they tell you to fuck off you could try the Gray Market on plebbit. I would recommend going the streetroller route but I'm not sure if that process is repeatable at this point.

File a complaint with the LA DCBA and CIG will beat a path to your door to refund you.

If you wait for a sale you'll be able to get LTI, meaning you won't ever pay for insurance on that ship in-game.

Wrong. You won't have to pay for basic hull insurance. LTI only covers the ship itself and stock components, nothing else. So you'd have to get more expensive insurance ingame anyway.

from what I last heard around a year or two ago, whiny cunts complained to Frontier that piracy is terrible and the worst thing ever and no one should do it ever.

So naturally FeDex started shipping repeat offenders (read as: people playing the open world game a certain way) bans to the Shadow Realm. I mean shadow bans to shadow ban servers where all the pivipi goes, I guess.

Things might have changed since so I dunno, take my word with a grain of faggotry.

You can compare loadouts easily enough on edshipyard.

Two large fixed pulse: 36.2 DPS

Vette 7 gun. Conda 8 gun. Conda stronk.

In case you weren't 100% sure that FD is incompetent, draconian, and values seniority over merit, check out these reviews from former employees:

Some gems:

>the production department is very slow and sloppy.
>Poorly managed projects.

>Constant crunch due to mismanagement of time.

The patch announcement two days ago was a real eye opener. Major, major gameplay and engine changes, days before release, and content additions of the like we should have been seeing at the beginning of beta testing coming after release. It's now quite obvious that the developers were unable to hold to a proper development schedule and were forced to launch an unfinished product by their investors (who were faced with the dawning realization that they had a stinker on their hands) just to recouperate some costs, and call it a night. It won't stay at full retail for long, that's for sure.

I really don't know why they bothered honestly but I think it has to do with having to connect to the internet to upload your discoveries, so they figured they would throw the ability to see others for giggles.
>>
Any NMS reviews up yet?
>>
>>151125120
Anon, they went from talking about how you can pvp and see your friends on the map to it being literally almost impossible and the chances of ever meeting a player are near zero.

Tell me, why would there be such a massive shift in tone when it comes to that feature? It's not because they want people to feel like the game is "big". Being able to explore a near infinite game does that enough. It's because the feature doesn't exist. There's no other reason that he has gone through so much effort to sweep it under the rug.
>>
>You can also interact with the Distress Beacon that is lying near your crash site. This will be your first choice to determine how you play the game. That's the fucking 'paths'? You've got to be kidding me.

I ask because I've been casually following the game's development from nearly the beginning and I never heard of anything like that, the only thing I've ever seen is you'd only rarely see anyone else. I think they fiddled with the idea of drop-in multiplayer but that was a long time ago and they threw that out the window. I could be wrong though.

https://repo.nmsdb.info/info/Multiplayer

Sources are there which are sourced by an autistic fan. In 2015 he literally says to Colbert

>So, you can't see your own face, but maybe someone else can see it for you ;):):)

In 2016
>Multiplayer gives people the wrong impression, we're not about that. That's not what our game is about

That tonal shift is massive. And I'm certain it's because they had to scrap the idea, but didn't want to actually say that before release because they'd have a shitstorm of lost sales.
>>
>>151126250

It looks like all they scrapped was a friend's list and a map showing where someone else is. If everything works as intended, you can still theoretically go to the same place as someone else and dogfight them if you want.

That statement is again one that omits clear implication dispelling language as it could be taken two distinct ways.
Either NMS is not multiplayer in any way and you cant see other players, or it simply lacks any in game system to support multiplayer in which case the blundering across people or organizing out of game idea still stands.

This is the part thats really pissing me off about these guys they're still obfuscating what is possible behind nonspecific statements.

I feel like the "NMS has multiplayer" is a running joke now. I seriously cannot comprehend how somebody can think that NMS, given all of the evidence so far (and lack thereof), will have multiplayer. Even now, after Sean literally says it is not a multiplayer game, and even the fucking BOX ART only says Single Player, people think it still holds true to the "We spent time making multiplayer that has essentially a 0% chance of happening". This is beyond me.

They don't. He says "in a universe this large," not "in this game." He's explaining why they didn't implement multiplayer, not saying that there's a chance you can directly play with others in the game.

>>151127147
Is he explaining why they didnt implement multiplayer or clarifying that it is not a multiplayer experience due to lack of support and near impossible odds? The language needs to be exact but they're still dancing around it.

Define multiplayer.

>>
>>151127237
Its not black and white like that. The answer is there and it's been there all along. How can you possibly not grasp this?

Everyone exists in the same persistent universe. There's 18,000,000,000,000,000 planets. Even if there's 1,000,000 players on simultaneously there's almost no chance you'll ever see them. Effectively zero.

You've got more chance of tricking your mom into sucking your cock than ever meeting anyone else in game.

This is why it's a single player experience.

Its not hard.

Thinking more on it, the simple fact they're dancing around the issue leads me to believe that players don't even render for each other. So it's infinitely procedurally generated, but when you discover something it's the same for all other players til the end of time. They are going to store everything discovered on an online server? And maintain it when 99% of the playerbase drops out next week? Forever? Sure.

Something isn't right here. Everytime they are asked about multiplayer they say "the chances are almost 0. Well you COULD find someone. But you don't really want to of course. That's not what the point is. Why are you asking about other players. They are there, but just don't look for them please."

This pretty much defeats the purpose of turrets in large ships.

Turrets are supposed to be class 1 and 2 guns that make little shits that try and stick in your blind spots regret their life choices if you use them at all.

Just add an engineer mod that increases turret damage in exchange for more distributor draw.

Also give laser turrets the ability to target missiles and torpedoes automatically.

The difference is the ramp-up time. Because of the way the funding happened in this game, what started out as "new wing commander with multiplayer" and a tiny dev team has exploded in scope and company size along with the funding. What we're seeing is an alpha for essentially a totally different game that's being re-built several times over as the scope keeps blowing up. It appears they've finally settled on what they want to do with the money they have, and are now delivering new shit pretty regularly.

Will it be good? I don't know. Will it come out in a timely fashion at this point? Almost certainly not. Is it too early to pass judgment on the project, considering it only became what it is now a couple years after the original announcement? Definitely.
>>
>>151150374
Dads are old men who played the original Elite games and largely dictated what Elite Dangerous is today. They insisted that the game essentially be a remake of the original, they hate all multiplayer elements, they hate PvP, and they hate the idea of the game being fun, accessible, or giving the players any agency in terms of what goes on in the game world.

They brand any criticisms of the game as the result of "this entitled millenial generation," they think PvPers are actually literal psychopaths in real life, and they will hop on any chance to suck Braben's cock.

Imagine if an elderly British man were a fanboy. That's what a dad is.

What I've seen so far looks promising of they can fix their clunky on-foot movement and fix their collisions.
>>
>>151150703
Supposedly that's coming along with 2.6, which also supposed to contain the release of Star Marine (FPS mode). I agree it does look promising, I really hope they can deliver.

Thanks based Anon.

It IS alpha - which is an unfinished, in the works project. Report any and all bugs you come across. Currently the only ship that I personally have the collision issues is the 300i. If you're unable to handle the fact that this alpha called Star Citizen will have bugs, you shouldn't have decided to play it. If you're too salty to do this, there are ways to sell your stuff and forget about the project until it becomes more of an actual game rather than a test bed, but you should have expected bugs and issues in an unfinished product.

Can you rebuy PP specific modules once you leave the power?

like if I get pack hounds on a bunch of Vipers to use as storage, can I then leave LYR and later sell the pack hounds then rebuy to put on another ship?

After playing a match of Squadron battles against a seemingly organized team of 5 M50 pilots + other randoms, it's basically confirmed that M50 groups are almost impossible to beat. Those faggots are fast, hard to hit, and tear your ass up when they focus fire you with ballistics.

Persistent Universe m50 Battlegroups strats confirmed.

I'll try to look for it.
My current problem is that I bought a new ship but didn't know that all your shit stays inside your previous ship so I don't have any fuel left and was mugged by pirates just after. Crashed myself on the planet and have to find some plutonium to go again.

CCU that shit to a happy merchantman for free while you can.
>>
>>151157383

Slow turning boom and zoom fighter, that's why you lost. You need a ship that can keep it's nose on M50s while firing a lot of rapid dakka. Right now that's pretty much the SH but the Buccaneer should be more effective

m50 + buccaneer super fleet WHEN

>>
>>151157595
>You need a ship that can keep it's nose on M50s

Literally impossible unless you are in an M50 or a 350R, but both require real skill.

M50 swarm is a legit tactic in Squadron Battle and it's hell to deal with if you they know how to fly.
>>
>>151157730

Until it gets buffed it's a bad choice, it's cross section is basically a giant flynet that captures any rounds fired at it. The M50 is tiny when it's facing it's target and still smaller than the Khartu when it's facing away, I'd swap a Khartu for a Bucc right now
>>
>>151157630
Sorry anon, I don't care about NMS enough to keep up with news.

>>151157715
Also, considering that the Starfarer went from $175 to $300, the BMM will go up to at least $350 based on size, plus the extra cost for it being an alien ship. Effectively anon would get rid of his Vanguard (fuck you, Paul) and acquire a ship he can CCU to the other 350 tier ships from.
>>
>>151157831
I play the game too anon, just put atleast two fixed GT-220s on any ship you can and watch them be fucked with controlled bursts. The Pyroburst also looks like a great anti-m50 option but I've not used it yet
>>
>>151157718
Yes.
>>
You guys are discussing Star Citizen like it's a real working game.

Stop.
>>
>>151158034
You probably haven't come up against what that anon is talking about if you think two GT-220s will do anything about it.
>>
>>151158000
BMM is going up to $400-$450 due to size increase and new specs(citation needed)

We had 3 SHs on the team. They went 4 and 8 on average.

>>151157595
>m50 + buccaneer super fleet

Jesus fuck I can already see it
>2 large orgs are fighting
>they decide to send lots of small fleets to area of interest to hold decisive 30 v 30 skirmishes across various instances and system locations in PU
>one side sends super hornets, Redeemers, Vanguards etc for heavy contest
>their faces when the entire other team sends massive groups of 6 man m50 squadrons led by Buccaneers

That's gg then and there. Even if the m50 fleet loses, they're so much easier to replace than the heavier fighters so rebuilding wouldn't be hard.

The current org I'm in has a specialized M50 division, right now we're planning with three m50s to one Idris but honestly expect to be able to fit atleast six and have enough m50 pilots to do it.

Though I gotta say from our testing the Reliant with two fixed GT-220s can absolutely destroy m50s though when they try to get in close, the only advantage they have is they can zoom away. They're especially good if the Reliants are holding a location and the m50s have to get close or can't run, it can easily turn turn it's guns on target even if they're fixed, it's fucking maunverable for a slow fighter
>>
>>151158839
We can still discuss it without it being in OP. It being there is just a potential beacon for shitposters.

>>151159090

retard detected.

Bring 9 of them, but have it so that they swap out every now and then for refueling or ammo. Honestly, this can work with 12 if you guys are truly organized.
